Steam Adds Feature Users Have Requested for Years

Valve appears to have quietly added a Steam feature that people have been asking about for a long time now: the ability to add a game to your library without having to download it. That may seem like a small thing (and it is, really), but it’s something players have only been able to do in the past via workarounds that didn’t make for the most convenient methods. It’s a feature that’s pretty much only useful whenever you’re downloading free-to-play games, but it does seem to have a few uses outside of that, too.

This new Steam feature wasn’t publicized in any sort of patch notes for Steam this week, so this stealthy feature was only noticed by people who shared news of it online after their discoveries. Twitter user RobotBrush, for example, screenshotted the option in the image below (which you may have to expand) that shows the usual “Play Game” button beside a new one that says “Add to Library.” Fellow Twitter user Morwull contextualized this for those who might not have understood what was going on from the first tweet alone.

As others pointed out in the replies there and in other threads where this feature was discussed, this Add to Library option was already available to a degree. There wasn’t a dedicated button for this action, and to achieve a similar effect, players could end the download of a game at the first confirmation window that pops up to have the game added to your library but not downloaded at that time. That workaround has essentially been condensed now into the one button you see pictured above.

For paid games, this won’t really be helpful seeing how you’d have to purchase the game anyway before adding it to your library. But considering the prevalence of free-to-play games nowadays with no end to that monetization method in sight, this feature will only be more useful as additional free-to-play games release. It’ll also be useful when claiming free DLC for a game you already own.

One caveat to this is that it doesn’t appear to be an option available on the Steam site at this time and is only found within the Steam app itself. It’s also unclear if this Add to Library button is present on games that are temporarily free-to-play or free-to-own seeing how there aren’t any games being promoted that way on Steam at this time, but those offers are never far apart from one another, so we’ll see soon if the button does indeed work that way, too.

2 MultiVersus Fighters Banned from Evo 2022

MultiVersus players looking to get a better look at what which characters pro fighting game players prefer and how they use them can get that this weekend during the Evo 2022 MultiVersus tournament, but two characters won’t be featured in the fights. Both the Iron Giant and LeBron James – the latter being the first character released after the start of the open beta – are not playable during Evo 2022. A map has similarly been struck from the rotation for the duration of the tournament.

The two fighters weren’t restricted from the tournament because they were overpowered or unfair or anything like that, though depending on which MultiVersus players you ask, some might hold those opinions about the pair. Instead, they were banned from the tournament because these two characters are the only ones labeled as “experimental” when you’re viewing them in the roster. The same goes for the Cromulons stage that comes from Rick and Morty and was added not long ago.

In the official rules for this MultiVersus tournament, the guidelines specified from the start that both of these characters (and any other new ones should Warner Bros. release a surprise drop ahead of schedule) were restricted from the event.

“Iron Giant, LeBron James, or any other characters released after the start of Open Beta will not be allowed in the Evo 2022 MultiVersus Open Beta Tournament,” the rules said. “This is subject to change at the sole discretion of Warner Bros. and Player First Games.”

Aside from those restrictions, the tournament seems to be operating off of pretty standard rules and is being played in a 2v2 format. It started just yesterday and is underway once more again now on Saturday, so it’ll be interesting to see once things have wrapped up which characters proved to be the most possible throughout the competition. A quick look at the MultiVersus Twitter account for the game’s competitive scene shows that there’s at least a range of characters being played instead of just a few being spammed over and over again, though some like Batman and Bugs Bunny are certainly seen frequently enough.

T1 Faker: “Nowadays, I spend every single hour of my time researching the game.”

On day 9 of the 2022 LCK Summer split, T1 faced off against DWG KIA in the first match of the day. Despite many predictions of a closer series between the two titans, T1 managed to 2-0 DWG KIA, a victory that marked their 24-match win streak in the LCK. They beat their old record of 23 match wins, a milestone that was set in 2015.

The following is a post-match interview with Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.

Thoughts on the victory tonight against DWG KIA?

Tonight’s match was an important one, so I’m really happy that we were able to shut them out 2-0 tonight.

One of the reasons why tonight’s matchup was so hyped up was due to whether or not the team can break their old record of 23-match win streak. How do you feel about breaking that milestone tonight?

The 24 match win streak doesn’t feel too big, especially because the record was set such a long time ago. The reason why I didn’t think too much about the milestone back then was because I actually didn’t know I set that record a long time ago. However, at the same time, setting such a record is a great feeling.

There must be a lot of factors that contribute to such a massive milestone.

I think that we’re a bit ahead of other teams in terms of our macro game. There’s a lot of luck involved as well. However, I don’t think we’re miles ahead of other teams.

What’s your secret behind maintaining such a high level of gameplay for such a long time?

I constantly thought about how I can be better since my debut. Nowadays, I spend every single hour of my time researching the game, so I think that translated to great results.

You also talked about winning the split undefeated in an earlier interview.

I felt that tonight’s match against DWG KIA was a critical one; after playing them tonight, I felt that we can win the Summer split undefeated as well. If we do, it’ll be another fun milestone.

Is there anything specific the team prepared for tonight’s series?

Everyone on our team put in an incredible number of hours practicing. I think that we won because we were ahead of DWG KIA in our overall play.

You picked Galio twice tonight. How come?

I put in a lot of research on how we’re going to counter Twisted Fate.

Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say?

We’ve set another huge record tonight. More than anything, however, the goal for Summer split is to show a better version of ourselves than that of MSI. I want to thank the fans for their support, and we’ll make sure to continue winning.

Did Ubisoft Just Leak an Assassins Creed Remake?

Some Assassin’s Creed fans think Ubisoft either purposefully leaked an Assassin’s Creedremake or is teasing a remake of the original game that started it all. The classiest of people know that Assassin’s Creed 2 is the best Assassin’s Creed of all time, with Brotherhood and Black Flag giving it a run for its money. That said, many fans have a lot of nostalgia for the first game, even if it’s rough around the edges and a noticeably inferior product compared to its immediate successor. It’s also celebrating its 15-year anniversary this year and it looks like Ubisoft may be celebrating this with a new remake or remaster of the game.

As YouTuber AccessTheAnimus points out over on Twitter that the new anniversary video Ubisoft released for the series shows updated visuals for the first game. Couple this with the fact that it’s the last game to be celebrated in the anniversary roadmap right before the new Assassin’s Creed Special Event later this year and it’s enough to have some fans speculating. Adding fuel to the fire is also the logo change.

If Ubisoft were to cash in on the older games in the series again, or, more specifically, the first game, it’s probably going to be a remake as it’s remastered the older titles fairly recently. That said, there’s been no rumors or rumblings of this happening, and considering most things Assassin’s Creed leak ahead of time through rumors and leaks, it’s odd that there’s been nothing about a remake of the first game.

If Ubisoft does remake the first game it’s also going to highlight how vastly different the series used to be. The series used to be much more linear and stealth-driven. Now it’s an open-world action RPG with minimal stealth. Of course, some prefer this change, but there are many fans who miss the Assassin’s Creed of yesteryear.

For now, take all of this speculation with a grain of salt. As for Ubisoft, it has not addressed this speculation in any capacity. We don’t anticipate this changing for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

Steam Game Made Free to Keep for a Very Limited Time

A Steam game has been made free to keep, but PC users of the digital storefront only have a limited time to capitalize on the offer. The offer more specifically comes the way of independent developer SC Jogos, who has its game, Ninja Stealth, completely free to download until Jun 13 @ 7:00 am. Usually, the game costs $4.99. Why it’s been made free, we don’t know, but it continues the pattern of smaller independent games being made free on the platform.

On Steam, the game actually has accumulated 651 user reviews, which is a decent amount. Since its release on June 4, 2016, 73 percent of users have reviewed the game positively, giving it a “Mostly Positive” Steam User Review rating.

“As a ninja you will need to be always hidden in the shadows, your objective is simple: escape the evil facility from a company that is trying to conquer the world, the Polo Jocos, is an evil facility founded by one of the worst men ever encountered, the evil Mr Tinger,” reads an official blurb about the game. “He is building a new chemical that will affect humanity in the worst way ever possible, he plans to use his chemicals to sell it in the Black Market and then extend his empire even more. You as a hero, enter the facilities to get this chemical, steal the formula of it and put an end to the Mr Tinger’s evil empire!

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales Are Swinging Onto PC

Update: It’s not just the original Spidey title heading to PC. Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will also be wall-running to Steam and Epic Games Store, launching in Fall 2022. This update comes from the PS Blog, where Insomniac Games confirms that both games are indeed heading to PC.

Another detail is that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will include the City That Never Sleeps DLC, so any new players won’t be missing out on the extra story and characters.

Original Story: The next major first-party PlayStation title is making its way over to PC, and it’s a big one. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Insomniac Games’ take on the popular wall-crawler, is officially making the leap.

The studio has worked alongside Nixxes Software to prepare the game for the PC market, where it’ll be made available on Steam and Epic Games Store. No further details have been shared yet, but this will be a fairly straightforward port. If somehow you don’t know, Marvel’s Spider-Man is an original story, with a 20-something Peter Parker already well established as the Manhattan hero. It’s an open world action adventure with some fantastic writing, super-fun combat, and a great rogues gallery too.

Sony and Bungie Will Create a Live Service Centre of Excellence Once Acquisition Closes

One of the things lost in Sony’s investor relations report last week, and brought back to our attention by ResetEra, is the company’s integration plan for acquisition target, Bungie. While the deal is yet to close, the platform holder expects the ink to be dry by the end of the year, and it’s already forming an integration plan for the Destiny developer.

Now, as you know, the Japanese giant wants to use the studio’s expertise to help with its live service game push, of which it intends to operate 12 concurrently by 2025. Currently, it’s working independently on these games within its PlayStation Studios infrastructure, but it intends to integrate all of Bungie’s knowledge across all of its operations after around one year.

The goal is to establish a new internal department named SIE Live Service Centre of Excellence, which it can leverage for all of its live service titles to ensure best practices are being observed. It’s worth remembering that Bungie will retain its independence, so will continue to release its own games across all platforms, but it’ll have an active role in shaping the philosophy behind Sony’s live service projects as well.

Interestingly, the platform holder wants to be learning from Bungie within three months of the deal closing, so it’s clear here that it massively values the design principles that have helped shape and grow the Destiny games. Eventually, the SIE Live Service Centre of Excellence will be tasked with reviewing important aspects like monetisation in both released and upcoming titles.

Obviously, a large chunk of the PlayStation fanbase are massively concerned by this new live service approach, although it’s important to remember that none of the games have actually been announced yet – they might be amazing. And maintaining live service titles is notoriously difficult, so at least the company appears to be taking things seriously if this is the business model upon which it intends to plant its flag.
