Assassin’s Creed Mirage Release Date Leaks Online

The next Assassin’s Creed game — dubbed Assassin’s Creed Mirage — is set to release sometime this year. When this year, we still don’t know. Ubisoft has yet to disclose a release date for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, or Amazon Luna game, however, previous rumors and reports have suggested it’s coming out this summer. Fast-forward to this week, and now a Polish retailer has listed the game for a summer release date.

According to Polish retailer Allegro, the Ubisoft game is coming out on June 30, 2023. June 30 is a Friday, the most common day for games to release, especially AAA games. So, the date checks out in this regard, however, June 30 is also the final day of June, which means this may be nothing more than a placeholder. And this would make sense because it’s unclear why a regional retailer would know about the game’s release date unless it’s going to be revealed imminently and go up for pre-order.

For now, take this date with a grain of salt. This is a leak, not official information. And of course, even if this date is accurate, it doesn’t mean it will stay this way as everything is subject to change, especially video game release dates.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is — officially — slated for release sometime in 2023. If this new leak is accurate, it’s specifically coming out on June 30. When it releases, it will be available via PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and Amazon Luna.

“In the ninth century CE, Baghdad is at its height, leading the world in science, art, innovation, and commerce. Amid its bustling urban landscape, a conflicted young orphan with a tragic past must navigate the streets to survive,” reads an official blurb about the game. “In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, you are Basim, a cunning street thief with nightmarish visions, seeking answers and justice. After an act of deadly retribution, Basim flees Baghdad and joins an ancient organization-The Hidden Ones. As he learns their mysterious rituals and powerful tenets, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and come to understand a new Creed-one that will change his fate in ways he never could have imagined.”

Popular Steam Game Free Before It Disappears Forever

A highly rated and popular game on Steam is free for a limited time before it disappears from the digital storefront. It’s not often games are delisted, but it happens a few times a year. In an increasingly digital era, this is more problematic than ever. And in this specific instance, it means you will never be able to purchase the game again because it was never released via retail. That said, if you did purchase the game, you can still play it after its removal, and until its removal, if you haven’t purchased it, you can still enjoy it because it’s free until it’s delisted on January 23.

The game in question is Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzles from Blue Wizard Digital. On Steam, the game boasts a “Very Positive” User Review rating, with 93 percent of over 5,000 user reviews rating the game positively. The game, which was released in 2018, is available on other platforms, but all of these versions, like the Steam version, are also being delisted on January 23. Unlike the Steam version though, these versions are not free until then.

Why is the game being removed? Well, according to a statement released alongside this news, Blue Wizard Digital is unable to renew the licensing involved. And with no licensing, the game can no longer be sold. This is the extent of specificity provided about the licensing issues.

“Today we have to make a sad announcement: We were unable to renew the license for Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle with the licensors and have been required to wind down all future sales of the game later this month,” reads said statement. “We have been assured by all platforms that players who have already downloaded / purchased the game and made in-app purchases within the game will continue to have access to the content they paid for in perpetuity. The game will be coming down from the storefronts across all platforms on January 23rd, 2023.”

The statement continues: “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this causes. It is a truly sad situation and all of us at Blue Wizard are absolutely crushed as well-F13: Killer Puzzle is a game we are so incredibly proud of. Thank you for your support over the years, and stay tuned to BlueWizard.com for future updates. Also don’t forget we still proudly offer the Overwhelmingly Positive rated Horror-Puzzle game that started it all: Slayaway Camp!”

Epic Games Store Gives Out First Free Games of 2023

The Epic Games Store has now made its first pair of free titles for 2023 completely free to download. While two different games were free to snag on the Epic Games Store in the initial days of the new year, they were both holdovers from the final week of 2022. Now, Epic Games has come back right on schedule and is handing out a beloved flight sim and an expansion for a game that might not be on the radar of many.

Lasting until next week on January 12th, Epic Games Store users can snag both Kerbal Space Program and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice for no cost at all. In the case of Kerbal Space Program, the game first launched on PC all the way back in 2015 and has since become a smash-hit. While there’s a fair chance that many PC players already own KSP, the fact that it’s now free is something that’s hard to be upset about.

With Aiko’s Choice, this giveaway on the Epic Games Store is a bit more unexpected. Rather than making the full game free, Epic is simply handing out Aiko’s Choice, which is an expansion for the strategy title Shadow Tactics. Although this might seem a bit odd, Aiko’s Choice has always been considered a standalone expansion that isn’t tied directly to Shadow Tactics itself, which means that it can be experienced without needing to buy the base game.

If you’d like to get more information about both of these free titles that are now on the Epic Games Store, you can see trailers and descriptions for each down below.

Kerbal Space Program

Kerbal Space Program features three gameplay modes. In Science Mode, perform space experiments to unlock new technology and advance the knowledge of Kerbalkind. In Career Mode, oversee every aspect of the space program, including construction, strategy, funding, upgrades, and more. In Sandbox, you are free to build any spacecraft you can think of, with all parts and technology in the game.”

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice

Aiko’s Choice is a brand-new standalone expansion to the beloved stealth tactics game Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, set in Japan around the Edo period. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun – Aiko’s Choice focuses on one of the main game’s protagonists: the kunoichi adept Aiko. She is a master of camouflage and distracts enemies disguised as a Geisha.

Although Aiko was certain that she left her old life behind her, Aiko’s former sensei, the cunning spymaster Lady Chiyo, reappears from the shadows to challenge her. Together with her deadly companions she sets out to hunt down the ghosts of her past.”

Bethesda Makes One of Its Best Games Free

One of Bethesda’s best games, or at least one of its highest-rated modern games, is free to download for a limited time, courtesy of Amazon Prime’s Prime Gaming service. Unfortunately, while there are no strings attached to the offer, because it’s through Prime Gaming it means only PC codes are being offered. While the game is available on console, there are no console codes being given out. As for the game itself, it’s Dishonored 2 from Arkane Studios.

Released in 2016 via Arkane Studios and Bethesda, as a sequel to 2012’s Dishonored, Dishonored 2 boasts an 88 on Metacritic, and is widely considered one of the best games of its year. Further, it’s also widely considered to have on the greatest levels in video games, The Clockwork Mansion.

Below, you can read more about the game and check out its official launch trailer:

“Play your way in a world where mysticism and industry collide,” reads anWill you choose to play as Empress Emily Kaldwin or the royal protector, Corvo Attano? Will you make your way through the game unseen, make full use of its brutal combat system, or use a blend of both? How will you combine your character’s unique set of powers, weapons and gadgets to eliminate your enemies? The story responds to your choices, leading to intriguing outcomes, as you play through each of the game’s hand-crafted missions.”

The game’s official description continues, diving deeper into the game’s story: “Dishonored 2 is set 15 years after the Lord Regent has been vanquished and the dreaded Rat Plague has passed into history. An otherworldly usurper has seized Empress Emily Kaldwin’s throne, leaving the fate of the Isles hanging in the balance. As Emily or Corvo, travel beyond the legendary streets of Dunwall to Karnaca, the once-dazzling coastal city that holds the keys to restoring Emily to power. Armed with the Mark of the Outsider and powerful new abilities, track down your enemies and take back what’s rightfully yours.”

Epic Games Store Making One of the Biggest Games Yet Free for Christmas

The Epic Games Store’s free game event running right now might be giving users one of the store’s biggest games yet on Christmas Day. This giveaway, if it does turn out as people are hoping and expecting, would make it so that a former PlayStation exclusive and one of the most talked about games from 2019 will be free for anyone who has an Epic Games Store account. That free game is none other than Death Stranding, the newest Hideo Kojima game that’s already getting a sequel as well as a movie set within the world of the first game.

News of Death Stranding likely being the next free game in the Epic Games Store’s holiday event comes from the wrapping paper teaser image on the next mystery game. Like the other teasers, it contains a symbol alluding to what the next game is supposed to be. This one shows a necklace with three rectangular objects hanging from it, a necklace which people feel is similar to the one Sam wears in Death Stranding. That image can be seen below along with a vote of confidence from one of Twitter’s best gaming news and deals sources Wario64.

If that teaser weren’t enough, other assets have supposedly already been found within the Epic Games Store to confirm that Death Stranding will indeed by Christmas Day’s free Epic Games Store game. Images showing the box art for Death Stranding as next in line for Epic Games’ free game giveaway added legitimacy to the claim, and a teaser from the Chinese version of the Epic Games Store supposedly used the “Tomorrow is in your hands” quote often used in the marketing for the game to hype up tomorrow’s free game.

Of course, nothing is confirmed yet until Epic Games officially announces its free game for December 25th, but it’s looking likely it’ll be Death Stranding (the base edition and not the Director’s Cut, according to the leaks). The only other alternative put forward by some is that the game could be Raji: An Ancient Epic which features a necklace that does admittedly look more like the one in the picture, but the leaked assets and a belief that Death Stranding would be a more fitting big-name game for Christmas has led many to stick to their beliefs about Death Stranding being the next free Epic Games Store game.

Steam’s Top-Selling Game Gets Limited Time Sale Before Christmas

The current top-selling game on Valve’s PC platform, Steam, is now on sale for a limited period of time. To the surprise of virtually no one, Steam’s most consistent best-selling game over the past couple of months has been that of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. As the first Call of Duty game to return to Steam in quite some time, Activision has found a ton of success with MW2 by making it available on the well-regarded PC marketplace. And while Modern Warfare 2 was already quite popular on Steam without being on sale, Activision has made the game just a bit cheaper before the holidays.

From now until December 22nd, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been marked down by 15%. Rather than retailing for its usual fare of $69.99, the latest entry in the Call of Duty series can be picked up for $59.49. Additionally, the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 2 is getting an even steeper discount. Although this version of the game normally costs $99.99, it’s now available at 20% off for $79.99.

While this is by no means the best deal that Steam is offering at the moment, as mentioned, what makes this sale notable is that it’s the first one that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has received since it launched earlier this fall. Since arriving at the end of October, Modern Warfare 2 has consistently been lighting up the sales charts on Steam, but it has done so without being made available at a lower price of any sort. As such, if you’re someone who has been holding out on buying the game until a sale takes place, now might be the time to use this promotion for your own benefit.

Are you going to look to take advantage of this current sale for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on Steam? Or are you going to continue waiting for it to drop to an even lower price? Let me know either down in the comments or hit me up on social media at @MooreMan12.

Batman Video Games for Steam Get Massive Under $5 Sale

A number of popular Batman video games for Steam have been massively discounted to under $5. While Batman titles have appeared across numerous platforms over the decades, only within the past 10 to 15 years has publisher WB Games started to release some truly acclaimed games tied to The Dark Knight. And if you’ve somehow never played any of these games, or you’re merely looking to add them to your Steam library, now might be a good time to make a move.

Available via Green Man Gaming, Steam keys for a number of beloved Batman games have now been drastically discounted. In total, nine Batman titles are part of this sale and include the entirety of the Batman Arkham series. To go along with Rocksteady’s own Arkham trilogy, Batman: Arkham Origins and its spin-off Arkham Origins Blackgate have been included in this sale as well. The virtual reality-based Batman: Arkham VR is also part of this promotion.

Outside of the Arkham series, the three entries that make up the LEGO Batman series are also part of this sale. The original LEGO Batman first launched all the way back in 2008 and was followed by a sequel in 2012 and a third installment in 2014. While Batman is the titular character in the title of each game, both LEGO Batman 2 and LEGO Batman 3 folded in a number of other DC heroes and villains outside of those that stem from Gotham City.

As a whole, every game in mention here is available to snag for a mere $3.75, which is a discount of at the very least 80%. If you’d like to buy all of these games, though, Green Man Gaming has some bundles that you can also look to pick up for even lower costs. For instance, both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City can be picked up in a single collection for $4.50.

If you’d like to see every Batman game that is included in this sale, you can find the full list attached below to go along with trailers for each.

On an average day, my friends might ask me how my job is going. I’ll smile, tell them “It’s going great,” and then launch into a story about one of the most fucked up things they’ve ever heard of. And now I get to give the recap to you.

Spooky season is upon us, but the chronically online gamers at Kotaku know that terrifying shit is happening in our space all the time. It’s not just the games that are occasionally horrifying—it’s also how the industry grinds humans into dust, how giant corporations are increasingly looking to put the screws to the average consumer, and how abuse of power comes as no surprise.

Some of the spookiest gaming news stories this year are sad. Some of them are funny. Others will make you want to pull your hair out over the general state of the world. But hey, me too! Let’s be scared and [some other unidentifiable emotion] together!
