Hogwarts Legacy leaker who claimed the design director was their dad struck by Warner Bros copyright notice

The Hogwarts Legacy community is lamenting the temporary disappearance of a bizarre leaker claiming to be the son of a senior developer.

In a now-nuked Reddit post (opens in new tab), user HogwartsInsider alleged that through their connections to their father, design director Chad Liddell, they’d been able to assist in QA on the game, and while a non-disclosure agreement partially bound them, they’d been permitted to host a limited Q+A session, revealing details about the game.

Through that thread, they answered questions pertaining to everything from player customisation to PC performance. At the time of writing, however, none of what they revealed remains visible. According to one of the subreddit’s mods (opens in new tab), Warner Bros issued a takedown notice to Reddit’s legal department, which took down the post in question. Another post, from a user claiming to have accessed the game early, was also removed, and both accounts have now been deleted.

None of the content revealed in either leak was particularly notable – there were no story spoilers and little mechanical discussion, with most players wanting to know about customisation and map exploration, and both users were wary of spoiling too much. Nonetheless, the community appears to have rallied around the leakers as their new heroes; at the time of writing, several of the subreddit’s top posts are memes paying tribute and/or decrying Warner Bros’ decision to strike the post.

The circumstances around the leak are pretty wild, as even if the leaker was exactly who they claimed to be, non-disclosure agreements exist for a reason. At this late stage before the game’s release, marketing campaigns are fully locked in, and even if a QA worker really was related to a senior developer, an unofficial question and answer session on a fan forum wouldn’t just be signed off by ‘my dad who works at Avalanche’.

The leak, which was nixed at the same time as another thread by a user who claimed to have got their copy of the game early, is just the latest chapter in a bizarre pre-launch saga for Hogwarts Legacy. While community enthusiasm remains high, the Hogwarts Legacy controversy continues, with several protests aimed at the game.

While J.K. Rowling is not involved in the development of Hogwarts Legacy, GamesRadar+ does acknowledge the author’s role in the creation of the Wizarding World, as well as her publicly stated, harmful views regarding the rights of transgender people. If you’d like to offer your support to the communities affected by Rowling’s rhetoric, consider donating to the National Center for Transgender Equality in the US, or Mermaids in the UK.

iPhone 15 will have a beautiful, Android-like design, leaker implies

The iPhone 15 series is still a good eight months away but rumors are beginning to pick up steam. Leaker ShrimpApplePro today posted a series of rumors about Apple’s next phones.
The rumors are centered on the iPhone 15’s screen. ShrimpApplePro first suggested back in November that the iPhone 14’s squared-off rear design will be swapped out for iPhone 5c-like curved edges.
The tipster is still standing by the rumor and has today provided more details about the iPhone 15’s design and screen. Shrimp claims the iPhone 15 line will come in the same sizes as the iPhone 14 series, meaning we will see two standard models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, and two higher-end models with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays.
Shrimp says that the premium variants, which will allegedly be known as the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Ultra, will have thinner bezels than their 2022 counterparts.
They add that all the models will have curved edges and flat screens and likens the design to the Apple Watch Series 8. They also said that all the models will have the Dynamic Island cutout which is currently exclusive to the Pro models. The phones will continue using the Ceramic Shield glass for protection.

iPhone 15 may retain the same selfie camera

Shrimp’s source has also told them that the iPhone 15 has the same sized camera cutout as the current generation, which suggests that front camera specs won’t change.

The leaker has also implied that the design changes will make the iPhone 15 look like Android phones. iPhones are currently easily identifiable because of their flat screen, notch, and camera array.
According to previous leaks, the iPhone 15 may ditch physical buttons and Lightning port, and the higher-end models will be powered by a 3nm chip. Some reports have also suggested that the vanilla models will be more affordable than the 2022 variants, but the Ultra might be more expensive.

Rumour: Verified Reddit leaker teases a Metroid Prime announcement

One of the moderators for Reddit’s Gaming Leaks and Rumours sub occasionally receives direct messages from one of the sub’s users who creatively leaks video gaming news, just before it is officially announced. The person has previously creatively leaked to the moderator the official name of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Switch, Splatoon 3 and Wario Ware, before they were officially announced in an Nintendo Direct. The Reddit moderator says that the user has “an undefeated record” when it comes to leaks and that the user DM’ed the Reddit moderator today saying “Do you think everyone is primed and ready?” possibly hinting at Metroid Prime news, most likely the Metroid Prime Remake which Venture Beat and Games Beat journalist, Jeff Grubb, insisted earlier this year is real.

Infamous Internet Leaker Retires from Snitching on Major Games

Image: Push Square

Infamous video game leaker The Snitch is giving up the riddles and retiring from rumourmonging. The notorious whistle blower unleashed a slew of cryptic clues for a variety of games, spanning everything from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion’s remaster through to Monster Hunter Rise’s impending conversion to PS5 and PS4. His track-record was flawless, although as his reputation grew, his clues got increasingly ambiguous – at times, annoyingly so. But now, his five minutes of online fame are over!

In an interview with Insider Gaming, he said “it’s not much fun leaking new announcements anymore”, and that he’s going to dedicate his time to his Discord server instead. There was speculation that The Snitch had backend access to a platform such as YouTube, so he could see private videos when they were uploaded by major publishers. “It’s a fun theory,” he said in response to the idea.

The Snitch said that his leaks were never malicious, and he only ever targeted major publishers: “I am fully aware of the damage that even a small and simple leak can do to the work of people that have spent many months or years on a game. In fact, we can say that I have dedicated myself to giving clues for users to speculate, rather than just direct leaking. It’s going to sound narcissistic and pushy, but I’m sure I even helped some events get more visibility.”

Of course, video game rumourmongers never truly disappear, and there’s no doubt someone will eventually emerge to fill The Snitch’s place. For now, though, the cryptic clues and riddles have been put on ice.

Fox News Executives Hunt Down the Tucker Carlson-Kanye West Leaker

This reporting appears as one of several scooplets featured in this week’s edition of Confider, the newsletter pulling back the curtain on the media. Subscribe here and send your questions, tips, and complaints here.

Fox News executives are “full-on freaked out” about the leak of never-aired clips of Tucker Carlson’s interview with Kayne West, Confider has learned, and the network is closing in on the “mole” who was the source of the embarrassing breach.

A few weeks ago Carlson interviewed West, who now goes by the mononym Ye, and touted him as a brave truth-teller dismissed by liberal elites for his increasingly far-right beliefs and stunts like wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt to Paris Fashion Week.

Despite the Fox News celebration of West’s supposed intellectual heft, unaired snippets leaked to Vice’s Motherboard showed the rapper and fashion mogul peddling openly antisemitic tropes and bizarre claims about “fake children” being used to manipulate his kids. These more embarrassing, newsworthy remarks never made into the final broadcast of Carlson’s chat with the rapper. (The interview was also before Ye threatened online to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE” before being banned from multiple platforms.)

Fox may be closing in on the leaker, but it’s now almost a week since Vice published the videos. This is a notable detail because in 2012, the last time the network dealt with a major video breach, it found and escorted the leaker—Bill O’Reilly’s then-associate producer Joe Muto—out of the building in less than 24 hours.

“This new leaker learned from my mistakes,” Muto told Confider. “The main reason I got caught is that I wasn’t covering my digital trail particularly well. They’re obviously doing a better job than I did if they haven’t been found yet.”

Following Muto’s leaks to Gawker, the network instituted stricter security protocols for accessing video, making it more difficult to access sensitive outtakes like the Ye ones. “It seems this leaker has found a way around that,” Muto remarked.

If you’re the Kanye video leaker, or anyone else at Fox with some juicy info, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at confider@thedailybeast.com.

A Fox News spokesperson declined to comment.

17-Year-Old Suspected GTA 6 Leaker Has Been Arrested

Image: Rockstar Games

Today, London City Police announced they had arrested a 17-year-old from Oxfordshire Thursday evening. While the police have yet to confirm why, it’s been reported that the teen was arrested in connection with the recent Uber and Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. The suspect remains in City Police custody at this time.

As reported by The Desk and reporter Matthew Keys, the arrest of the suspected 17-year-old GTA hacker by police in the United Kingdom was part of an investigation being conducted by the FBI and the UK’s Cyber Crime Unit. It had previously been reported that the FBI was likely looking into the recent hacks at Uber and Rockstar Games.

A source told The Desk that the teenager is being held on numerous charges, including conspiracy to attack at least two different computer systems.

It’s believed that the teenage hacker arrested Thursday evening in Oxfordshire is connected to the hacker group “Laspus$.” This group of hackers is allegedly also involved with high-profile digital intrusions at other large companies including Uber, Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia, and Okta. The group first showed up in 2021, hacking Brazil’s Ministry of Health. It was thought the group had gone inactive, but earlier this month it allegedly ramped up its activities again and targeted Uber and Rockstar Games.

The Grand Theft Auto VI leak that occurred over the weekend was one of the largest video game leaks in history. 90 video files showcasing early development footage of the next GTA game, which is assumed to be GTA VI, were posted on the GTA Forums and quickly spread across the internet. The footage seemed to confirm previous reports and rumors that GTA VI would be set in Vice City and would star two different characters, a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like criminal couple.

On Monday, September 19, following the leak, Rockstar Games confirmed that someone had “illegally” gained access to its files and shared them online. It also stated that this leak would not slow down production on the game and that it planned to reveal it in a more official way soon.
