Thousands without power after storm slams Bay Area

Thousands of Bay Area residents are without power on Saturday as a result of intense storms.

At 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Bay Area was slammed with nearly 30,000 power outages, KRON4 reported. That number has dwindled as the rain subsides, but over 18,000 outages are still impacting the region.

As of 8:00 p.m., the number of outages in the Bay Area stands at 18,342, according to PG&E’s outage map.

The East Bay has been most impacted by power outages throughout the day, with over 20,000 homes without power earlier in the afternoon. As of 8:00 p.m., there are 6,832 outages in Alameda County and 3,783 outages in Contra Costa County.

There are currently 498 customers without power in San Francisco, according to PG&E’s map. There are 2,401 outages in San Mateo County and 4,528 in Santa Clara County.

The North Bay appears to have been largely spared when it comes to these outages, with only 300 outages across Solano, Napa and Sonoma Counties. There are currently zero outages in Marin County, according to PG&E’s map.

South of the Bay Area, there are close to 4,000 power outages impacting Santa Cruz county.

It is unclear when power will be restored to affected areas. PG&E did not respond to SFGATE’s request for comment in time for publication.
