Severe Weather Forecast: Elsa to bring heavy rain, strong winds to Florida

The NBC2 First Alert Hurricane Team has issued a Severe Weather First Alert as Elsa inches closer to Florida.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in place for the entire coast of Southwest Florida.


Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and an isolated tornado threat to Southwest Florida today. Be sure to have a way to receive weather alerts. 

Tropical storm-force winds are possible, especially along the coast. Four to six inches of rain are expected along the coast with one to two inches expected inland, though a slight shift in Elsa’s track could drastically alter totals.

As feeder bands filter through the region, expect an isolated tornado threat. A storm surge of one to 3 feet is also expected for the coast. 

Overnight, expect gusty conditions and rounds of rain. Conditions will be calming heading into Wednesday evening.
