Florida remains in Tropical Storm Elsa’s path

Forecasters continue to watch Tropical Storm Elsa as it gains strength and moves rapidly into the Caribbean.At 5 a.m. on Thursday, the center of Tropical Storm Elsa was located 70 miles east-southeast of Barbados. Elsa is moving toward the west-northwest near 28 mph and that motion is expected to continue for the next couple of days, according to forecasters.Elsa is expected to pass near or over portions of the Windward Islands or the southern Leeward Islands on Friday, move into the eastern Caribbean Sea late Friday and Friday night, and move near the southern coast of Hispaniola on Saturday, according to the National Hurricane Center.By Sunday, Elsa is forecast to move near Jamaica and portions of eastern Cuba.Forecasters said Friday morning that the maximum sustained winds increased to near 60 mph with higher gusts.
