Shooting in Philadelphia: 4 dead, 11 injured following series of Philadelphia shootings Thursday

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Philadelphia police are investigating a series of shootings that left four people dead and 11 others injured since 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

A man was shot and killed around 2:10 p.m. on the 400 block of Manton Street in South Philadelphia.

Around 2 p.m., police say a 37-year-old woman was shot one time in the upper thigh near F and Lippincott streets in Kensington. She was rushed to Temple University Hospital and placed in stable condition.

Roughly 10 minutes later, police say four people were shot on the 4000 block of Wallace Street. There was no immediate word on their conditions.

A 28-year-old man and a 65-year-old man were both shot around 2:12 p.m. on the 1700 block of N. 31st Street in the city’s Brewerytown section. Both victims were placed in critical condition at an area hospital.

A 25-year-old woman was shot in the upper thigh on the 6500 block of Walker Street around 2:41 p.m. She was rushed to an area hospital, but there was no immediate word on her condition. Police say a 33-year-old man was also found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died.

Just before 3 p.m., police say an 18-year-old man was shot two times in the knee on the 4400 block of Holden Street in the city’s Powelton section. He was rushed to an area hospital and placed in stable condition.

And the gunfire continued into Thursday evening.

Police say a 22-year-old man was shot on the 3400 block of Braddock Street around 5:30 p.m. in Port Richmond. He was taken to a nearby hospital and placed in critical but stable condition.

Several suspects were arrested and police believe the victim may have also been firing a weapon.

Around 6:12 p.m., police say a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were both shot multiple times on the 4900 block of Whitaker Avenue. The 37-year-old victim is expected to survive while the 33-year-old victim remains in critical condition.

The male driver told police that he was driving the female victim to her weekly medical appointment when they were both shot inside the vehicle.

“He believes around F Street and Whitaker, while he was driving to Einstein Hospital taking the 33-year-old woman to Einstein, that’s when his van was struck by gunfire,” said Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small.

In Southwest Philadelphia, police say two people were shot around 10 p.m. at 67th Street and Greenway Avenue. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police continue to search for several suspects in connection with these shootings.
