Pomona crash: 1 killed, 12 injured after hit-and-run driver slams into taco stand

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) — A man was killed and 12 others were injured in Pomona after a driver crashed her car into a taco stand and ran away from the scene Friday evening, police say.

Pomona police say the crash was reported around 7:45 p.m. in the area of W. Holt Avenue and Dudley Street.

It was initially believed a total of 11 people were hurt in the crash, but the victim count later increased to 13.

Police confirmed one man died in the crash. Ten other victims were hospitalized and two others were treated at the scene.

The taco stand was destroyed in the aftermath of the crash — tables were toppled and a car, possibly belonging to the suspect, was underneath a tent.

Police say the driver left her car and ran away from the scene, but she later turned herself in.

Neighbors say they the taco stand is popular and they are saddened by what happened.

The area was closed as authorities investigated the collision.

An investigation will determine if speed or alcohol was a factor.
