Police investigate a murder in a Cherokee County neighborhood – WSB-TV Channel 2

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on Bridge Mill Avenue in Cherokee county just before 6 p.m. this evening. Deputies responded to the call of a person shot at a home in the Bridge Mill neighborhood.

At the scene, deputies found 2 people dead at a home.

The deceased have been identified as father and daughter, Howard Newhouse, 57, and Katheryn Newhouse,19.

Deputies believe this may have been a murder suicide.

“It appeared that the father took the life of the daughter and then shot himself,” said Jay Baker, Cherokee County Sheriff Public information officer.

A third family member was inside the home when the shooting happened. This person was not shot.

Police do not believe there is any present danger to any others in the community.

“This looks like it’s contained, a domestic situation,” said Baker.

The investigation is still active and there are no suspects on the loose.

We have a Channel 2 reporter and photographer at the scene and will have the latest on this incident on WSB tonight at 11 p.m.
