The Iowa State Patrol has released identities in a deadly incident that happened in Slater Saturday as an Independence Day parade ended.Authorities said a driver accidentally backed into a crowd and killed one person as the celebration ended. The accident injured multiple people, including a 6-year-old boy who was airlifted to a hospital, and onlookers raced to lift up the car to get to those trapped below it.The incident occurred at Main and Tama streets at about 11 a.m. The final entries in the parade had just passed that intersection moments earlier.On Sunday, the Iowa State Patrol said the person killed in the incident was 59-year-old Mary Nienow, of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Those injured were 67-year-old Linda Nordstrom, of Huxley, 30-year-old Rikkie Powell, of Huxley, and 6-year-old Reagan Powell, of Huxley.Reagan Powell was transported to a Des Moines hospital via air ambulance. The condition of the child has not been released.The Iowa State Patrol identified the driver as 75-year-old Karen Wheeler, of Cambridge. The incident remains under investigation.
