Bodies of two hikers recovered from Acadia National Park

The bodies of two hikers were recovered from Acadia National Park Saturday. It’s believed they fell roughly 100 feet along ice covered cliff bands on Dorr Mountain, located right beside Cadillac Mountain. The National Park Service says the bodies were found Saturday by park rangers working with volunteers from MDI Search and Rescue and a Maine Forest Service helicopter. They started searching Friday night after family members said they hadn’t heard from them. The 28-year-old man and 30-year-old woman are from Rutland, Massachusetts. Their bodies were found late Saturday morning. “The advice we’ve been giving visitors this time of year is to avoid trails, especially those that involve icy higher elevations, and take advantage of walking and biking about 25 miles of the Park Loop Road that’s still closed off to motor vehicle traffic until April 15,” said Jay Elhard, a media specialist for the National Park Service. National Park Service rangers and Maine State Police are investigating along with the Bar Harbor Police Department.
