An armed robbery suspect accused of stealing a Rockland police cruiser and leading police on two chases was taken into custody after vehicle after was barricaded by SWAT teams in Quincy. State Police said a Rockland Police Department cruiser was stolen Friday morning in Rockland after a robbery. The suspect led police on chase before the pursuit ended at Burgin Parkway and Route 3 in Quincy, police said. While the cruiser was surrounded by several police vehicles and a SWAT vehicle on the Burgin Parkway, the driver fled the again. Police officers ran to their vehicles and chased the cruiser before it was stopped on the Liberty Street near the BJ’s Gas Station. Two SWAT vehicles then sandwiched the stolen cruiser and prevented the suspect from fleeing, as negotiations continued.A NewsCenter 5 crew was at the scene when a popping sound was heard, and officers removed the person from the cruiser. The suspect was taken from the scene in an ambulance. The MBTA said Red Line service is suspended d between Braintree and Wollaston. Significant delays were reported on the commuter rail on the Greenbush, Middleborough and Kingston lines.The on- and off-ramps at Exit 42 are shut down.WCVB will have more information when it becomes available.
