Watch a Ford GT Drag Race a C8 Corvette Z06

We already know the C8-generation Corvette Z06 is an exceptional car, America’s take on the glorious days of naturally-aspirated, mid-engined Ferraris at Corvette prices and production numbers. We also know that the outgoing Ford GT is a beast of a car in its own right, deserving of its famous name. They take very different approaches to performance, with the Corvette packing the punch of a very special naturally-aspirated engine in a much more common car while the GT puts a less-adventurous turbocharged six-cylinder in a rare and specialized chassis. But which one is faster?

The GT may be faster in a straight line, but the Z06 stands out in plenty of other ways in a head-to-head track test.

In a rolling drag race conducted as part of a comparison review by YouTube channel Throttle House, the GT still seems to have a narrow edge. The more specialized Ford pulls ahead early and holds onto a small lead throughout, thanks in no small part to a weight advantage.

The comparison test also includes some track time in both cars, highlighting the very different approaches Ford and GM have taken to what are currently their ultimate performance cars. Both are also benchmarked against the Ferrari 458 Speciale, the very special naturally-aspirated V-8 Ferrari swan song that has drawn so many comparisons to the latest Z06.

Through it all, the Corvette has one distinct advantage: while the Ferrari is a very special thing, it was produced from just 2013 to 2015. The ultra-limited Ford GT goes out of production at the end of this year. The Z06 is just starting production, and production numbers for previous generations of Z06 suggest that, by supercar standards, the cars will be downright common. While the performance may be similar to other cars already on the market, Chevrolet’s ability to bring that performance to something resembling mass production is the true feat.
