Omega x Swatch Speedmaster Sparks Buying Frenzies Across the World

Swatch stores across the world, from London to Geneva to Hong Kong to Miami, were swarmed on Saturday as the Omega x Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch was released in stores.

The Omega x Swatch Speedmaster collection consists of 11 pieces referencing different planets and celestial bodies within our solar system including the Moon, Earth, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Venus, Uranus, Neptune, and Mercury. The quartz MoonSwatch chronograph references the mechanical Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch inspired by NASA‘s Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

The collection marks the first time Swatch Group’s luxury Omega brand collaborated with its entry-level Swatch counterpart, and at a price point of $260 USD, buyers can purchase the entire 11-watch collection for much less than the original Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch.

While Swatch has made clear that the MoonSwatch is not a limited edition release, thousands have flocked to their nearest Swatch store with arrests reported in Geneva and a store closure in central London due to the chaotic scenes unfolding outside. According to a video interview from Hodinkee, a buyer revealed he traveled from Las Vegas to LA and waited outside for more than 22 hours to secure the watch which is currently selling for more than 10 times the original value on eBay and other secondary markets.

For those that missed out, restocks should arrive in the coming weeks in select stores.
