‘Fallout’ Amazon series turns empty New Dorp ShopRite into apocalyptic Super Duper Mart

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — That’s not a new supermarket, folks.

The location of the former ShopRite, located at 2424 Hylan Blvd., New Dorp, is the backdrop for an Amazon Prime series, “Fallout.”

According to TheGamer.com, the inspiration for the store comes from multiple “Super Duper Mart” shops across three Fallout video games.

While movie crews were not seen on Sunday when the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com went by the former longtime supermarket, the building looked like a rundown grocery store at first glance, with Super-Duper Mart and “SD” written across.

Throughout the parking lot, passersby could see several destroyed vehicles manufactured from a bygone era.

TheGamer reported that the recreation of the supermarket “does a good job of capturing Fallout’s atmosphere” which is surrounded by damage from the Great War.

Fallout was reported to begin filming for Amazon in late June, throughout New York City, according to The Gamer.

Variety.com reported that the Fallout series is going to be set in a world where the future is envisioned by Americans in the late 1940s and exploded upon itself through a nuclear war in 2077.

While there is no set date for the series, a list of names has started to grow for the cast. The cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, and Aaron Moten, with undisclosed roles, The Gamer reported.

ShopRite moved into the Boulevard shopping center in New Dorp in October 2020, leaving the former location up for digs.

The Long Island-based Kimco Realty president of the northern region, Joshua Weinkanz told the Advance in January of 2021, “We are talking to a handful of people for different types of uses. We are trying to get it leased as soon as we can.”

A ShopRite representative did not respond to a request for comment.
