Minecraft YouTuber Dream Reveals His Face To Followers

Minecraft YouTuber Dream has unveiled his face after years of smiley anonymity.

After many years of posting anonymously, Minecraft YouTuber Dream revealed his identity because there had been “a little bit too much” conjecture about him. Dream, a 23-year-old content creator with more than 30 million subscribers, has only ever made one public appearance while using a smooth, egg-colored cheerful face mask.

For years, Dream has been a well-known name among gamers, but they were unaware of his appearance. The primary focus of “Dream” is the video game Minecraft, and on October 2, he made his face visible via a YouTube live stream.

According to Forbes, 1.2 million viewers tuned in live, and 14 hours later, the video had more than 18 million views. Dream revealing his face was, to put it mildly, a big deal for his community and Minecraft as a whole. The dream has 5.6 million Twitter followers, 3.1 million Instagram followers, and 30.4 million YouTube subscribers. For context, Fortnite’s Ninja has 23.8 million. Dr Disrespect has 4.1 million. Taylor Swift has 47.5 million. The dream is a big deal.

The BBC said in a report that Minecraft is the world’s bestselling video game and Dream’s most popular videos have tens of millions of views, with one having been watched more than 115 million times. “Hi, my name is Clay, otherwise known as Dream,” he said in a five-minute video viewed more than 12 million times.

“Maybe you’ve heard of me, maybe not. Maybe you clicked on this video out of pure curiosity and you don’t care who I am. But now you’ve seen my face, ” he said while first revealing his face.

He continued by saying that he has come under pressure from those who are curious about his appearance. “People have been trying to leak my face, trying to find out what I look like. There’s too many, it’s a little bit too much,” he said.

YouTuber Tests Apple Watch Ultra Durability With a Hammer: Table Breaks Before the Watch

A YouTuber has put Apple’s claims for the durability of the Apple Watch Ultra to the test by putting it up against a drop test, a jar of nails, and repeated hits with a hammer to test the sapphire crystal glass.

TechRax, a channel popular for testing the durability of products, first tested the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ by dropping it from around 4 feet high. The ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ was left mostly unscuffed, besides some dents alongside the titanium casing from the drop. Next, the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ was mixed around in a jar of nails and, once again, was left with no visible marks.

TechRax also tested the durability of the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌’s sapphire crystal display by repeatedly hitting it with a hammer. In the test, the watch withstood repeated hits with the hammer until it finally cracked after repeated blows, only after the table took some damage first.

While the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌’s display did not initially take damage, the watch did fail to turn on after repeated hits. The failure to power on could indicate that while the glass may not have broken at first, some internal components may have faced damage. Of course, the test is unrealistic in portraying a typical use case of the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌, but it may provide some customers reassurance for the strength of the sapphire crystal display.

Apple claims the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ is its most rugged, durable, and extreme Apple Watch yet and is aimed to compete directly with Garmin. In response to the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌, Garmin said it measures battery life in “months” and not “hours.” The ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ starts at $799 and began arriving to customers this Friday.

Video Game YouTuber Dunkey Launches His Own Indie Publishing Company

YouTuber Jason ‘Dunkey’ Gastrow has announced his very own indie game publishing company called Bigmode.

In a five-minute upload on his YouTube channel, Gastrow explained how he felt he had been sitting on the sidelines for too long, waiting for “great games” to appear, and now wanted to leave a mark on the industry by applying his own understanding of the medium. Here’s part of what he had to say:

“I’ve been on YouTube for 11 years now, and one of the core themes of my channel has always been to slam dunk soulless cash grabs into the garbage can and lift up and praise the truly inspired works of art in this medium.”

“…For years and years and years, I have always sought out the very best indie games out there and have tried to do them justice, putting million of eyes on the games that actually deserve attention…my best of the year videos are constantly loaded up with indie game recommendations like Hades…”

…”I want all the real deal gamers out there watching this video to know I would never risk my legitimacy by trying to push some junkass games I don’t believe in”

Gastrow further stated how his team had put a lot of effort into making contracts at Bigmode as “developer-friendly” as possible, which would also allow game developers to succeed and “continue to succeed” in the future. Bigmode is already calling for people to sign on with the company:

“At Bigmode, we only want to work with the most passionate and creative people out there, I’m sick of all these weak games, I’m sick of all the spam, I only want to work with those who are going ham. We’re not aiming for the bronze medals, we’re going for gold”

You can learn more about the company over on the Bigmode website. What do you make of this announcement? Leave your thoughts below.

YouTuber Confesses To Being Gaming Industry Leaker, Gets Caught

Image: Ubisoft / Dan Allen Gaming / Kotaku

It turns out a Twitter account called TheRealInsider, the latest in a crop of leakers posing as gaming industry insiders, was actually run by YouTuber Dan Allen Gaming. The account had convinced many in the scene that it was the real deal after accurately teasing which new Assassin’s Creed games would be revealed at Ubisoft’s 2022 gaming showcase. But it now appears Allen was simply leaking embargoed, privileged information he received as an influencer. “I’m sorry to everyone for my actions,” he wrote on Twitter before deleting both accounts.

Allen has 189,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel where he posts guides, interviews with voice actors, and playthroughs of everything from Multiversus to Elden Ring. No one suspected him of secretly leaking industry marketing materials he received under embargo until he accidentally responded to someone asking TheRealInsider a question on Twitter as his main Dan Allen Gaming account. After that, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier combed through past tweets from both accounts and discovered plenty of overlap.

“If this is legit — and looking through both accounts, they sure seem to tweet about the same games around the same time — it would explain how this ‘real insider’ knew the AC codenames,” Schreier wrote in a Discord comment. “He broke the embargo himself.”

But people didn’t have to speculate for long though. Allen admitted it shortly after and posted an apology. “I’m sorry to everyone for my actions,” it read. “I’m ashamed and disappointed in myself. I’ll be taking some time to reflect on my poor decisions, which will never occur again. To everyone that has supported me over the years, I’m truely [sic] sorry I let you down.”

There’s a difference between when a journalist uncovers information they consider to be of public interest and presents it to the world, and when a person agrees to an embargo or an NDA, and a company shares information under the assumption that the details won’t be disclosed until a specified date and time.

TheRealInsider’s biggest claim to fame was the Ubisoft leak, teasing the Japan open world RPG called Project Red and several other Assassins’ Creed games four days before the official showcase, and before they were reported on by TryHardGuides and, later that same day, Bloomberg. As Axios’ Stephen Totilo points out, that was the same day Ubisoft briefed press on the showcase (Kotaku did not participate). More often, however, the account has teased upcoming things like hands-on previews, as in the case of Square Enix’s Forspoken. This track record recently turned TheRealInsider into one of the fixtures of the Gaming Leaks and Rumors subreddit, a popular watering hole for fans to speculate about upcoming releases based on industry reports and, more commonly, random tweets.

Allen’s outing comes within a week of the massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak and a Nintendo Direct where many rumored games once again failed to materialize. It’s spurred a renewed debate about the value and ethics of leaking gaming industry secrets, which can run the gamut from where the next Fallout will take place to whether a studio has been mistreating its employees. Plenty of people are sick of the rumor mongering, and developers and marketing specialists are understandably not fans of seeing their work discussed online outside of their control, especially when it revolves around incomplete information or inaccurate information. Does that mean it will end any time soon? Consider me doubtful.

Coincidently, the first outlet to break the news about TheRealInsider was a new publication by industry insider Tom Henderson called, what else, Insider Gaming. While some were critical of the name, which is even invoked on the about page where sources are encouraged to “become an insider” by reaching out, the site immediately broke after launching yesterday when too many people tried to visit it at once. Responded one apparent fan, “Fuck criticism, see you on the inside.”

Update: 9/20/22 10:00 p.m. ET: Allen hasn’t returned to Twitter but he has posted a five minute apology video on his YouTube channel. In it he apologizes profusely to fans, colleagues, and others, and explains that some of the supposed leaks were nothing more than educated guesses or made up altogether.

“I mentioned Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid Remake and I can say that there was no NDA there because it’s all bullshit, it’s all lies,” Allen says. He also mentions that a tease of God of War Ragnarök before the most recent Sony State of Play was, which was later proven accurate, was based purely on Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge retweeting the stream link prior to the showcase.

“I’ve lost industry friends, I’ve lost relationships—personal, business-wise, opportunities—all for you know that five seconds of fame and I take full responsibility,” Allen says. “All the hate I’ve received on Twitter, it’s all just, but I just had to delete it because I’ve just never experienced that barrage of hate before—and again, totally justified—but I just had to step away from that because I’m just, you know, mentally it’s not great to see all those things about you being put out there and I haven’t experienced that before.”

Update: 9/21/22 3:03 p.m. ET: A spokesperson for Ubisoft declined to comment specifically on its relationship with Allen, but provided the following statement more generally:

We regularly provide access and information on our games under NDA to trusted partners. When that trust is compromised, or information is leaked by an individual, it’s not only damaging and demoralizing to our teams, but it takes away from an exciting reveal moment and experience for our players. While we won’t speak on an individual case, we do take these matters seriously and will manage accordingly.

Smash Bros. Creator Sakurai Is A YouTuber Now And I Love It

Did you know that back in 2006, Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai helped develop a Tamagotchi-like game where you raise virtual beetles on these smol LCD toys and send them off to fight other beetles over infrared connectivity a la Street Pass? It’s new news to me, and one of many interesting facts the storied game designer has shared on his new YouTube channel, Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games. To be honest with y’all, I think he might be my fave YouTuber now.

Masahiro Sakurai may be most well-known as the creative genius behind the Kirby and Super Smash Bros. franchises, but he’s done a lotta work in the games industry since starting in the ‘90s. He directed his first game, Kirby’s Dream Land, at the age of 19. He wrote a weekly Famitsu column about games for nearly two decades. He even went independent for a bit in the mid-2000s, leading the design of the falling tile-match puzzle game Meteos before returning to Nintendo’s HAL Laboratory for some more Super Smash Bros. games. And up until earlier this week, Sakurai was posting daily screenshots from what may or may not be the crossover fighter’s final entry, only to announce he wouldn’t do that anymore and instead was focusing on a new project: A YouTube channel where he spills the tea on the ins and outs of game design. YouTuber Sakurai. Has a nice ring to it.

Read More: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Director Stops Posting Daily Screens, Ending An Era

As YouTuber Sakurai put it in the first video on his channel, the goal of Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games is to “try and help make games around the world a little more fun.” With his decades of expertise, he plans to dissect what “good” and “fun” could mean in game design, teaching aspiring developers and curious onlookers more about the medium through bite-sized lessons. Though there are only four videos on his channel right now—YouTuber Sakurai moves fast, y’all—the topics he aims tocover seem to be all-encompassing, ranging from how frame rate affects game feel to the ways distance determines risk in platformers. It sounds technical, but YouTuber Sakurai ensured that game development experience isn’t necessary to get enjoyment or glean insight from his channel because “keeping things simple” is the best for accessibility.

Consider the second video, Stop for Big Moments, which is all about “hit stops.” A hit stop is an in-game effect that, as the name suggests, stops the action when you get hit. You see it a lot in action games where you stagger a bit and the screen shakes after a blow, but hit stops are most acutely felt in something like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate when you deal a critical attack that sends your opponent careening off the screen. The purpose of hit stops is to make every blow in a game feel impactful and to translate to you, the player, the weight of the attack. Without them, combat can feel floaty and imprecise, lacking any significant heaviness or punch.

Nintendo

What I love about Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games is YouTuber Sakurai’s demeanor. If you’ve watched any of the Super Smash Bros. livestreams he hosted, then you know the vibe here. It’s lowkey and personable, filled with tons of information delivered in a digestible format. He speaks clearly and plainly, and doesn’t spend too much time wading through game design jargon to teach concepts. In talking about hit stops, for example, he demonstrated several times how the effect changes a game’s feel with it activated and deactivated. What you get is a window into how developers make combat that’s both punchy and rewarding. I really feel like I learned something from YouTuber Sakurai. So, if you’ve ever wondered what makes combat in some games so “crunchy,” pay attention to the effectiveness of the hit stop.

While Masahiro Sakurai is reveling in the YouTuber life now, Nintendo is going through a tumultuous August. Earlier this month the company was accused of firing an employee for asking a question about unions at a meeting. A fire broke out at Nintendo’s headquarters in Kyoto this month as well, possibly sparked by a faulty device that was charging. Kotaku also spoke to multiple sources alleging that as Nintendo of America contractors, they experienced a “frat house” culture rife with sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said the company is “actively investigating” the claims that have appeared in recent media coverage.

YouTuber Builds Gaming PC Out Of Working Toilet

A YouTuber built a PC out of a working toilet, creating what might be the first toilet capable of both handling your waste and playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. What a world we live in!

As spotted by Eurogamer, YouTuber Basically Homeless cut a deal with the electronics store Microcenter to create a gaming PC inside of an actual toilet, complete with all the plumbing and water that entails. It’s a wild thing, but not surprising. You see, for as long as we have had toilets and video games, many have tried to combine them. Even I have heard that siren’s call and attempted to poop and game at the same time. Countless others do so while playing games on their phones.

But Basically Homeless didn’t want to simply bring a Switch or phone or even a Steam Deck into the bathroom. Instead, he wanted to create a setup that would let him play 120hz FPS shooters with a mouse and keyboard while sitting on a toilet. And in his video documenting the entire process, I was shocked both by the end results and the lack of planning.

Basically Homeless

The way this thing works is one half of the tank contains all the toilet bits and bobs along with the water. Then he built a “Water Wall” out of plexiglass and glue. On the other side of the wall are all the computer parts. The idea was to keep them separate, letting you flush the working toilet while playing games. Also, built into the lid is a fan to help keep the PC cool.

It probably won’t surprise you to learn that the first time he connected the toilet to the water supply his hacked-together “Water Wall” failed and he ended up having to use a whole can of Flexseal inside the tank to protect the valuable PC electronics. However, now that he’s gotten everything working (including the RGB lighting), the finished PC/toilet hybrid is oddly impressive. Thanks to a large cutout in the front, you can see both the functioning toilet and the running PC.

According to Basically Homeless, he had to learn basic plumbing and how to cut porcelain to create this bizarre PC. The end result is both a conversation starter and a man who can now fix his own toilet. Truly a win, win situation.

YouTuber Jake Paul CANCELS boxing match against Tommy Fury

Jake Paul has cancelled his boxing match with Tommy Fury after claiming the half-brother of Tyson Fury ‘wasn’t interested and literally went into hiding’.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was due to go head-to-head with Fury on August 6 at Madison Square Garden, but doubts over their fight started to creep in when the Brit was banned from travelling to America for their press conference.

Paul has since taken to Twitter to announce that he and his team had issued Fury with a termination notice after doing ‘everything’ they could to arrange the fight.

Jake Paul has cancelled his boxing match with Tommy Fury after claiming the brother of Tyson Fury ‘wasn’t interested and literally went into hiding’

Paul took to Twitter to say: ‘Fury’s received a termination notice. MVP [Most Valuable Promotions] did everything it could 2 help him & team. He wasn’t interested & he literally went into hiding.

‘2nd time in a row he has pulled out. 2nd time in a row I’m going to step up & take on a new opponent on short notice. AUG 6. MSG.’

The pair were supposed to settle their rivalry back in December at the Amalie Arena in Florida, but Fury had to pull out with a broken rib and a chest infection.

As a result, their fight was rescheduled for August 6 at Madison Square Garden. However, Fury faced a stumbling block when trying to enter into America.

Fury was set to fly to the United States for a press conference to promote their fight but was denied entry.

Paul’s fight with Fury was scheduled to go ahead at Madison Square Garden on August 6

Fury filmed a video explaining why he had not been able to get on his flight to the United States to promote the fight last month.

He said: ‘[I wanted to] come on here and set the record straight before anybody else tries to.

‘Me and my team this morning arrived at Heathrow Airport ready for the press conference, ready to fly out.

‘And as soon as I entered the airport I got pulled to one side and I was told by the Homeland Security officer that was there that my ESTA had been denied and I wasn’t able to travel to the USA for a reason that I apparently know.

‘I can stand here and I say I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong and I have no clue why I’m not allowed to travel to the USA.’

‘I’ve been training for a fight this whole time and that’s all I’ve been doing. I have no clue why they will not allow me to travel today and neither does any of my team or my lawyers.

‘So now I’m having to go to the embassies and all this sort of stuff, trying to resolve it and I’m in the middle of training, guys, I don’t know why this has happened today – it is a massive shock to me and my whole team.

However, Fury was denied entry into America ahead of their press conference last month

Paul gave fans an update of the situation regarding Fury – claiming his opponent was hiding

‘Obviously it is a matter that needs to be resolved, it is government issues, it’s a lot bigger than the fight right now and I’m trying to get it sorted but I just wanted to let you all know where it was at.’

In response to the setback in their efforts to face each other, Paul furiously tweeted: ‘Tommy, no matter how hard you try to get out of this fight, I’m going to do everything in my power to not let you weasel your way out.

‘My team and my partners have made it clear the steps you need to take to solve your latest excuse. Take them or admit you’re a scared little b****.’

Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions also confirmed in a statement that the press conference had to be postponed due to the situation regarding Fury.

The statement read: ‘Despite many assurances by Tommy Fury’s team that he was able to come to the US, and knowing that Tommy was in California just last month, we were surprised to learn that he had an issue at Heathrow Airport on Monday.

‘As a result of circumstances out of our control, the scheduled press conference for Wednesday at MSG has been postponed.

‘We are working with our partners at SHOWTIME and Madison Square Garden and will share more information as soon as we are able.’

Paul gave Fury a deadline for sorting his travel issues out before calling off the fight

Paul took to Twitter once again on June 30 to update fans on the situation – claiming Fury was ‘hiding’.

He said: ‘Tommy Fury is hiding. B***h made. Tyson Fury lawyer never got back to my team on setting up escrow for our $1M bet. ‘Never believed in his brother. Instructed my team to do a Hova (Jay-Z) and move On To The Next One.’

He shared an accompanying video in which he was heard saying: ‘We have spoken to Tommy Fury’s lawyers, they’re all advising him to just go to the embassy to get his visa.

‘That’s all he has to do. But Tommy is showing no urgency, he hasn’t gone yet, he’s not communicating with us on what he’s doing.

‘This is another case of Tommy Fumbles just being scared to fight me. I think that’s what this is. I think the Fury family’s trying to manipulate something to get me to fight in the UK.

‘You want me to fight in the UK? Show me $15million. Because, here in America, we do more PPV buys, more ticket sales and more sponsorships.

Fury is yet to respond to the notice but Paul is already preparing for a fight against heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr (pictured together above)

‘I’ve shown you the money, we’re ready to go. MSG, August 6th. Tommy, you’re going to miss the biggest pay day of your life because you want me to go to the UK?

‘I’ll come there just show me the money but you can’t do that. This is embarrassing. Go to the embassy, get your visa, stop ducking me and stop wasting my time.’

Paul subsequently gave Fury a deadline – claiming the fight would be called off if he had not attended the American embassy before Wednesday morning.

He Tweeted: ‘Tommy is officially out by Wednesday morning if he doesn’t go to the embassy/come out of hiding,’ Paul tweeted. Three other opponents lined up. I’m built different.’

With the Wednesday deadline having passed, Paul took to social media once again to announce that he had issued Fury with a ‘termination notice’.

Fury is yet to respond to the notice but Paul is already planning for a fight against heavyweight Hasim Rahman Jr.

While Rahman Jr hasn’t fought many big names while building a 12-1 record, his father famously knocked out Lennox Lewis to take the world heavyweight championship in 2001 in one of the biggest upsets the sport had seen for years.
