Rollback netcode update announced for Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2

Fighting game fans have been asking for this for years now, and the day has finally come.

Instead of a new Guilty Gear Strive character, Arc System Works announced that rollback netcode will be coming to Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 and Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator at CEOtaku 2022.

No, you’re not dreaming. Soon Xrd’s near-decade-old delay-based netplay will be replaced, so you’ll hopefully no longer need to worry about lag — and dropping combos because of it.

There is currently no hard release date set for Xrd to receive the full rollback update, but players will get to take it for a test drive very soon.

The developers will be launching a rollback public test sometime in late October for PC similarly to how they beta tested previous games, but it hasn’t been confirmed whether the big patch will make its way to the PlayStation 4 version of REV2 and Revelator as well.

ArcSys is certainly living up to their goal of updating their older fighting games with better online play with Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R, BlazBlue: Central Fiction, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Dragon Ball FighterZ all having received their upgrades or are currently in the process of doing so.

That basically just leaves Granblue Fantasy: Versus as the only man out unfortunately, but hopefully this now indicates the tech wizards at the company will fully complete the rollback roster in time and cement themselves as fighting game legends.

You can check out the full announcement trailer for Guilty Gear Xrd’s rollback update below.

Stardew Valley Creator Shares Update On Version 1.6 Release

Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone’s lifestyle-farming simulation Stardew Valley is getting a 1.6 update in the future. In June, he revealed how it would focus on modding and also add in some “new content”.

So, what’s the latest? Don’t worry – it’s still on the way. In response to a fan’s question on social media asking about a target release, Barone simply said it would arrive when it’s ready. Here it is in full:

No target release date… just “when it’s ready”

Barone is also currently hard at work on his next project Haunted Chocolatier. At the moment, it’s locked in for a PC release, but no other major platforms have been confirmed.

Stardew’s previous Version 1.5 update was previously released on the Nintendo Switch in February last year and is still on the way to mobile devices. It added new game options including the “Beach Farm”, advanced game options to customise playthroughs, split-screen local co-op, and much more.

Are you still playing Stardew Valley on the Nintendo Switch? What would you like to see from a future update to this game? Comment below.

No Man Sky’s 4.0 Update Will Be “Fully Focused” On The Nintendo Switch Launch

Image: Hello Games

One of the many titles coming to the Nintendo Switch next month is the ambitious space epic No Man’s Sky.

The release of the game lines up with the 4.0 update, and if you’re wondering what else might be included, it seems the Switch version is “the focus” of this next game update. Hello Games’ founder Sean Murray clarified this in a series of tweets:

“No Man’s Sky Switch is releasing on Oct 7th – that’s really soon. Switch is our next big release and marks the moment No Man’s Sky ticks over to version 4.0. Switch is a real labour of love for us, and the whole team is fully focused on delivering that technical mini miracle

“2022 has already been one of our most busy years to date with Outlaws, Steam Deck, Sentinels, Switch, Mac OS, Leviathan, expeditions + more. The focus of 4.0 is our Switch release, an opportunity to introduce a new group of players into our welcoming community. More will follow”

When the game does launch on Switch, Nintendo players will be able to experience the new Endurance update – adding a whole new level of customisation to the game – from a freighter overhaul to interactive crew members.

About the only thing Switch players will miss out on is multiplayer, with the official game website mentioning how the No Man’s Sky Switch Edition would be a single-player experience at launch.

Will you be taking to the skies in No Man’s Sky next month? Leave a comment below.

GeForce GPUs are slowing down after installing the Windows 11 2022 Update

Enlarge / The GeForce 3080 Ti.

Sam Machkovech

Some users of Nvidia’s GeForce graphics cards are noticing severe performance issues after installing the Windows 11 2022 Update (aka Windows 11 22H2) that Microsoft released to the public earlier this week. As reported by Bleeping Computer, affected users have experience stuttering, inconsistent framerates, and slowdowns, even on fast PCs with modern components.

Nvidia says the problem is caused by some new Windows graphics debugging features that are enabled by mistake.

The company publicly acknowledged the issue and released a new beta version of the GeForce Experience software package that it says should fix it. This implies that the problem is with Nvidia’s add-on software rather than the GeForce drivers themselves; if you installed the drivers without the GeForce Experience software, you may not have noticed the slowdown in the first place.

Bugs like these are why Microsoft rolls major Windows updates out in phases, beginning with a small group of PCs and working outward. The company learned this lesson early in the Windows-as-a-service era when problems like non-functional webcams, data loss, and broken apps cropped up early in the public rollout process for significant feature updates.

Follow NASA’s Artemis 1 moon rocket launch update today (Sept. 23)

Editor’s note: NASA is having technical issues with its Artemis 1 moon mission update feed above. It is currently offline.

NASA will provide an update about its Artemis 1 moon mission today (Sept. 23), and you can listen live.

The Artemis 1 press briefing is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m. EDT (1630 GMT). You can listen here at Space.com, courtesy of NASA, or directly via the space agency (opens in new tab). (It appears the briefing will be audio-only.)

Participating in the call will be:

  • Tom Whitmeyer, deputy associate administrator, Common Exploration Systems Development, NASA headquarters
  • Brad McCain, vice president and general manager, Jacobs Space Operations Group
  • John Blevins, Space Launch System (SLS) chief engineer, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center

Artemis 1 is the first mission of NASA’s Artemis program of moon exploration. It will use an SLS megarocket to launch an uncrewed Orion capsule on a long journey to lunar orbit and back.

NASA tried to launch Artemis 1 on Aug. 29 and Sept. 3 but was foiled by glitches both times. The Sept. 3 issue was a leak of liquid hydrogen propellant, which the mission team addressed by replacing two seals at the affected area, a “quick disconnect” linking the SLS core stage with a fuel line from its mobile launch tower.

The Artemis 1 team performed a fueling test on Wednesday (Sept. 21), and the fix held; the team detected a leak but managed to bring it down to manageable levels. All the objectives were met during Wednesday’s test, so “teams are fine-tuning procedures for the next launch opportunity, targeted for no earlier than Sept. 27,” NASA officials wrote in an update (opens in new tab) on Thursday (Sept. 22).

Today’s press briefing will give us more details about those procedures and the mission team’s plans going forward.

Those plans are contingent on several factors in addition to the leak repair. For example, NASA has applied for a waiver from the U.S. Space Force to extend the certification of the Artemis 1 flight termination system (FTS), which is designed to destroy the SLS if something goes wrong during launch. (The Space Force oversees the Eastern Range for rocket launches.)

The FTS was certified for 25 days and has exceeded that deadline. If the waiver isn’t granted, NASA will have to roll the Artemis 1 stack off its launch pad at Kennedy Space Center in Florida back to the facility’s huge Vehicle Assembly Building for recertification.

Then there’s the weather, which is always a concern on Florida’s hot and stormy Space Coast.

Samsung just lost the Android 13 update race to OnePlus

Usually, Samsung is the first non-Google Android OEM to release a new stable version of Android. The South Korean firm has already released three Android 13-based One UI 5.0 beta updates to the Galaxy S22 series. The One UI 5.0 beta update has also reached the Galaxy S21 series. However, the company has lost the battle regarding the stable Android 13 update release.

Chinese firm OnePlus released the stable Android 13 (OxygenOS 13) update to the OnePlus 10 Pro yesterday. It means that OnePlus took just 1.5 months to release the stable update after Google released the final version of Android 13 to Pixel smartphones. And Samsung isn’t scheduled to release the stable Android 13 update to its phones before the end of October 2022. So, the South Korean firm will be around three months late than Google.

But are faster updates better than slower but more stable updates?

However, that might be good for Galaxy smartphone and tablet users. OnePlus is infamous for rolling out buggy software updates to its smartphones. OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 9 users were seen complaining of bugs and issues in the first few “stable” releases of the Android 12 update, and the same could be true for the OnePlus 10 Pro’s Android 13 update.

Moreover, OnePlus has a track record of releasing an early update to its most recent flagship phone but severely delaying the update for the rest of the phones in its lineup, even if those are high-end phones released alongside the flagship device. On the other hand, Samsung’s updates are usually more stable, and once the company releases a stable Android OS update to its most recent flagship, it swiftly rolls out the update to the rest of the high-end devices.

Going by Samsung’s track record, the company could release the Android 13 update to most of its high-end and mid-range smartphones before the end of Q1 2023. The South Korean firm also adds more features than OnePlus to its major software updates. What do you prefer? Faster and buggy updates or slower and more stable updates? Let us know in the comments section below.

[Video] What’s new on the third Galaxy S22 One UI 5.0 beta update?

Although there were rumors about the possible delay of the One UI 5.0 Beta 2 update, Samsung ended up releasing the third beta update to the Galaxy S22 series last night. Since it is the third beta update, one would be inclined to think that it would mostly bring bug fixes and minor feature additions. However, Samsung has added some major new features.

The latest One UI 5.0 beta update for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra comes with firmware version ending ZVI9. The update is rolling out in Europe and the UK, and features the September 2022 security patch.

New features in One UI 5.0 Beta 3

The new update brings the biggest redesign to the wallpapers section over the past few years. It looks like Samsung has taken huge inspiration from Apple’s iOS 16. You can long press the lock screen directly to change the wallpaper or edit lock screen widgets. You can either select a single wallpaper or use a set of backgrounds. You can also change the lock screen shortcuts, add contact information, add a clock and date widget, and notifications.

You can further customize the lock screen clock widget with six fonts, five styles, and ten preset font colors (five solid colors and five gradients). You can even select a custom solid color or gradient from the color swatch or spectrum. You can even set the clock widget to adjust automatically as per the wallpaper color (dark or light). For the notifications view, you can either select icons only or notification icons with details. You can even set its transparency level and text color. There is also a new smooth animation effect when the phone switches to and from Always On Display mode. Samsung has also categorized wallpapers (Colors, Gallery, and Graphical), in iOS 16 style.

Samsung has also tweaked the UI design of the fingerprint registration process. There’s a green ring around the fingerprint registration area for better focus. The Color Palette has also been applied to the Stories section in the Gallery app, and the whole section is now more immersive. With the new software, you can turn off the Auto Optimization feature in the Device Care app. Samsung has also fixed the issue with animations and transitions, and they now look a lot smoother.
