Eagles injury update: Jordan Mailata doubtful; Jake Elliott, Avonte Maddox out

The Eagles will be without a few key players as they travel to Arizona for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals.

Jordan Mailata (shoulder) is doubtful after missing all week of practice. Meanwhile, Jake Elliott (ankle), Avonte Maddox (ankle) and Patrick Johnson (concussion) have been ruled out. All four missed the entire week of practice.

Out: Jake Elliott (ankle), Avonte Maddox (ankle), Patrick Johnson (concussion)

Doubtful: Jordan Mailata (shoulder)

Questionable: Boston Scott (rib), Kyron Johnson (concussion)

Ready to go: Darius Slay (forearm), Isaac Seumalo (ankle)

Mailata suffered his shoulder injury while trying to make a diving tackle on a pick-6 last weekend against the Jaguars. The good news is that his injury doesn’t seem like it’s going to last very long. He said on Thursday that the scans delivered good news and he dodged a bullet.

Andre Dillard, who is still on IR after breaking his forearm before the season began, has been practicing all week. The Eagles activated his 21-day practice window earlier this week. But earlier in the week, head coach Nick Sirianni intimated that this weekend might be too soon for Dillard’s return.

So with Mailata likely out and Dillard’s status unknown, the Eagles might have to start utility man Jack Driscoll at left tackle. This would be Driscoll’s first-career start at left tackle, but he managed to play fairly well in relief of Mailata last Sunday. Driscoll said his main goal is to just hold his own and not force the offensive coaches to change the game plan to help him.

Without Elliott, who was injured on a late hit against the Jaguars, the Eagles will elevate rookie kicker Cameron Dicker, who was signed to the practice squad earlier this week. Dicker kicked and punted at Texas and went undrafted this spring before spending time with the Rams and Ravens. Sunday will be his NFL debut.

In Maddox’s nickel corner spot, expect backup Josiah Scott to fill in. Scott got the start in place of Maddox last week and now has a full week of first-team practice reps under his belt. Maddox injured that ankle last Thursday in practice, so Scott got short notice against the Jags.

Pixel 7 ‘Natural Elements’ ringtones arrive for all Pixels via update

A new update for Google’s Sounds app brings a new collection of “Natural Elements” ringtones that debuted on Pixel 7.

In our hands-on time with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro this morning, we spotted that Google introduced a new collection of ringtones, notification sounds, and alarms. Entitled “Natural Elements,” the new Pixel 7 ringtones stand in bold contrast to past collections Retro Riffs that had an electronica focus.

For example, one ringtone “Garden Breeze” recreates the sound of a hanging chime on a windy day, while “Night Song” captures the evening magic of crickets chittering. More musical options like “Cloud Drift” and “Dusty Plain” bring the swelling of stringed instruments.

Diving into the notification tones, “Twang” and “Chord” each consist of a short strum of a guitar. “Rainstick” is a pleasant rattling/sizzling sound, while “Swoosh” is an airy sound exactly as its name suggests.

Under alarm tones, there are some especially serene pieces of music like “Skyward,” which incorporates a gentle piano and the chirping of crickets and birds. “Nature Trail” focuses on the sounds of water rushing by, combined with the croaking of frogs.

All together, there are 36 new ringtones, notifications, and alarms (12 of each), but thankfully you don’t actually need a Pixel 7 to take advantage of the new sounds. All of the Natural Elements ringtones are available by simply installing an update to Google’s Sounds app — version 3.0 (472386834) — which is rolling out now to older Pixel phones via the Play Store.

So far, we’ve only seen the update arrive on a Pixel 6 Pro, but it should be rolling out more widely (likely only to currently supported Pixel phones) in the coming days. Let us know down in the comments if you have the new ringtones and which Pixel device you’re using.

‘SNL’s Weekend Update Tackles Sydney Sweeney Family Saga & Herschel Walker Controversies – Deadline

Colin Jost and Michael Che got right into poking fun at politics in Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update segment.

Jost and Che also joked about Russia, Hurricane Ian, President Biden, Ted Cruz, Ginni Thomas, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lizzo’s flute playing, and the CIA’s plans to launch a new podcast as part of the classic news-desk skit.

New cast member Michael Longfellow was front and center, making his Weekend Update debut as the child of conservatives. He was asked for his thoughts on the backlash that Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney faced for allegedly having Trump-supporting family members.

“Well, my family is from Arizona, so if you can get in trouble for what your parents think — uh, it’s been a good run,” he said.

Longfellow added that his “dad is anti-Covid vaccine” as “he doesn’t really believe in the virus” adding he thinks it’s “crazy because every anti-vax article he sends me gives my computer 10 of them.”

Jost and Che were also joined by James Austin Johnson and Kenan Thompson on the desk as Mitch McConnell and Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

It was also Johnson’s first ever “Weekend Update” appearance.

Che pointed out some of the questionable statements the former football player has made such as “Our good air decided to float over to China’s bad air, so when China gets our good air, the bad air got to move.”

“I’ll slow down so you can understand,” Thompson’s Walker said. “We all know air, right? Air Bud, Air Jordan… Erin Brokevich. Science don’t understand. Everybody talking about climate, but what we really should be focusing on is putting Hawaii closer…. bring that climate over here.”

‘SNL’: Miles Teller Used To Re-create Cheri Oteri’s Spartan Cheerleader Role In Classic Will Ferrell Sketches

Che then questioned Johnson’s McConnell about the qualifications Walker has to be running for a Senate seat, saying that he plays football and the state of “Georgia likes football.”

The jokes got increasingly more chaotic after Che asked Walker if he had any actual proposals with “BBQ Tuesdays” and another one to “create a department of Instagram booty” to battle the girls “faking their cake.”

Seth Rollins Gives Update On His Relationships With Roman Reigns And Jon Moxley

Helwani asked Rollins if he still has a relationship with Moxley now that it’s been three years since they worked for the same company. Rollins was quick to reassure Helwani and fans that he and Moxley are still friends, though they speak less than they did a few years ago. “I don’t talk to him as much obviously, opposite schedules and different stuff, but our baby girls are close to the same age,” Rollins said, adding that Moxley isn’t much of a texter, so he occasionally makes an effort to meet up with him in person if the chance arises. “When we were in Cincinnati, last time I was there, I popped into the house and said hi and checked in on him.”

Rollins clarified that his relationship with Moxley never really wavered, despite what some fans might have believed. “There was never any animosity,” Rollins explained. “He’s great, at the top of his game, doing his thing over in AEW, so [I wish him] nothing but the best.”

Rollins concluded: “I’ve always had a great relationship with those guys.”

meta: Hurricane Ian latest update: Tropical storm regains strength as category one hurricane as it nears South Carolina

Hurricane Ian: Waves flood roads in Key West as storm strengthens to category 4

After spending most of Thursday as a tropical storm, Ian was upgraded to a hurricane again as it takes aim at the South Carolina coastline.

The National Hurricane Center stated in its 5pm ET update that Hurricane Ian was “taking aim at the Carolinas and Georgia with life-threatening flooding, storm surge and strong winds.”

The hurricane is now moving north-northwest at around 10 mph with maximum sustained winds increasing to 75 mph with strong gusts.

“Ian could slightly strengthen before landfall tomorrow, and is forecast to rapidly weaken over the southeastern United States late Friday into Saturday,” the advisory said.

Dozens of rescue operations have been taking place across Florida after unprecedented flooding from one of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded in the United States.

Thousands of people are stranded across the state as coastguard helicopters were seen plucking people from roofs after several feet of water surged into neighorboods. Some 2.5million people were currently without power.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the hurricane as a “500-year flood event” and said that major infrastructure had been badly damaged including the Sanibel Causeway in southwest Florida and the bridge to Pine Island, near Fort Myers.

President Joe Biden declared a major disaster in Florida following the catastrophic impacts. “This could be the deadliest hurricane in Florida history,” he said later during a briefing at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters.

1st gen AirPods Pro gets ‘Adaptive Transparency’ after update

One of the new features announced with the second generation AirPods Pro is “Adaptive Transparency,” which takes Transparency Mode to the next level by minimizing specific sounds while still letting users hear what’s important around them. However, with the release of iOS 16.1 beta 3, those with first-generation AirPods Pro are also seeing this option in the iOS Settings app.

Adaptive Transparency for first-generation AirPods Pro

For those unfamiliar, Transparency Mode is a feature available in the AirPods Pro and AirPods Max that uses the built-in microphones to let users hear the world around them without having to take off the earphones.

Apple says Adaptive Transparency in AirPods Pro 2 uses the new H2 chip (which is not available in any other AirPods) to “minimize the intensity of loud noises like sirens or power tools.” But for some reason, users who have updated their devices to iOS 16.1 beta 3 (released this week to developers) can now enable Adaptive Transparency for the old AirPods Pro.

As noted by some users on Reddit, the latest iOS beta also comes with a new AirPods beta firmware (build 5A304a) that enables Adaptive Transparency for the first-generation AirPods Pro. However, it’s unclear at this point whether the feature actually works or if it’s just a bug.

In the past, Apple has mistakenly enabled options in iOS that shouldn’t be visible to everyone, so this could be the case for owners of the original AirPods Pro seeing Adaptive Transparency in the Settings app. We’ll probably have to wait until more users test and compare the new option to see if it really works.

The second-generation AirPods Pro costs $249 in the United States, but you can find it (or even the first-generation AirPods Pro) for lower prices on Amazon.

More about iOS 16.1

iOS 16.1 enables battery percentage for more iPhone models such as iPhone 11 and iPhone 13 mini. Apple has tweaked the battery indicator so that it now has a dynamic icon when the percentage is enabled.

The update also adds a Clean Energy Charging option, Live Activities API, early support for the Matter protocol, and the option to delete the Wallet app. For iPad users, today’s beta of iPadOS 16.1 brings Stage Manager for older iPad Pro models with the A12X and A12Z chips.

Has Verizon really released stable Android 13 update to the Galaxy S22?

Samsung is currently testing the third One UI 5.0 beta version on the Galaxy S22 series. However, Verizon claims on its website that it has already released the stable Android 13 update to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The carrier even published the complete One UI 5.0 changelog and screenshots of some of the new features. But has it actually released the update?

Well, a Redditor was able to download the update with firmware version S90xUSQS2AVI1, as mentioned on Verizon’s website. However, it’s not Android 13-based One UI 5.0, as claimed by Verizon. The changelog on the carrier’s website also mentions the October 2022 security patch, which Samsung released earlier today. We know that Samsung is currently testing Android 13 on its high-end phones and is yet to release a stable build.

So, it is possible that Verizon has published the wrong changelog by mistake. This also points towards a possibility of an earlier-than-usual release of the next major Android OS update for Samsung’s phones. The company might release the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 stable update to the Galaxy S22 series sometime next month.

Samsung has also been testing Android 13 on the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the Galaxy A52. All these phones could get the stable Android 13 update within a couple of months.
