Tom Brady makes history as Tampa Bay Buccaneers win first-ever regular season game in Germany

CNN
 —

Tom Brady has become well-accustomed at making history over his long and illustrious NFL career. And on Sunday, the 45-year-old set more historic marks from all the way across the globe.

Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-16 at the Allianz Arena in Germany, the NFL’s first regular season game in the country.

With the victory, Brady became the first quarterback to win an NFL game in three different countries outside of the US.

As a New England Patriot, Brady won all three of the international games he played in, with two in London and one in Mexico City.

And now, he can add Germany to the list as the NFL’s most decorated player adds another accolade to his ever-expanding collection.

After the victory, Brady described the atmosphere in the Allianz Arena – the home of German football giants, Bayern Munich – as “pretty electric.”

“It was a great atmosphere,” he told the NFL Network. “It felt like a pretty hyped up game when we came out for warm-ups.

“It was pretty electric so I hope the German fans got what they wanted. Great win by our team, we needed it. Played against a great opponent, our defense played great and I’m glad we found a way to slug it out and win.”

Despite a tough season prior to Sunday, Brady looked much more like himself, throwing a 31-yard touchdown pass to Julio Jones and with Leonard Fournette running for another as the Buccaneers raced into a 14-0 second lead.

With the Bucs up 14-3 in the third quarter, the team attempted to pull out all the stops as Fournette attempted to throw to Brady though Brady slipped and Fournette was intercepted by Tariq Woolen.

And when Chris Godwin caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Brady early in the fourth quarter, the result looked wrapped up with the score at 21-3.

However, a late comeback from the Seahawks meant the German fans went home with their fair share of excitement.

Tyler Lockett’s touchdown with just over eight minutes narrowed the gap and Brady’s untimely interception to Cody Barton was capitalized on by Seattle as Marquise Goodwin caught a touchdown pass from Seattle quarterback Geno Smith to reduce the deficit to just five with under four minutes to play.

Smith finished the afternoon with 275 passing yards and two touchdown passes.

But, just when they needed it, Tampa Bay produced a time-killing drive to kill the game off behind the running ability of Rachaad White – who ran for a career-high 105 yards – and secure the team’s fifth victory of the season and second in a row.

The Bucs now head into their bye week atop the NFC South and looking much more like the team that was predicted to vie for a Super Bowl ring.

For the Seahawks, after a promising start to the season, they fall to 6-4, but head back to the West coast of the US with their heads held high after showing resolve late on.

Tom Brady tried to save Gisele Bündchen marriage, but was ‘too late’

Tom Brady didn’t put in enough effort to save his marriage with Gisele Bündchen even though he “didn’t want the marriage to end.”

Before the pair filed and finalized their divorce on Friday, the NFL star, 45, was willing to do “whatever he needed to do to fix things,” according to People Magazine.

Sources told the outlet that “near the end” of their 13-year marriage, Brady wanted to “make things right” because he “didn’t want the kids to have divorced parents.”

The quarterback was reportedly “willing to go to therapy, marriage counseling — whatever it took to make things work,” but Bündchen, 42, felt it was “too little, too late.”

“She gave him a lot of opportunities to fix things, and he didn’t,” they continued, adding that while Brady was “busy following his passion” the supermodel was left to parent on her own.

“This was not Tom’s idea,” the insider said of the split. “This was never Tom’s idea.”

The former Victoria’s Secret model felt like “he wasn’t hearing what she was saying” when she asked him “over and over” to “be more present” with their children.

Back in September, Bündchen told Elle magazine about her “concerns” regarding Brady’s “violent” career in the midst of their “epic fight.”

The model told the outlet that she has “definitely had those conversations” about wanting him to retire, but added “that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”

However, shortly after Bündchen changed her tune when she allegedly gave the athlete an ultimatum and threatened to end their marriage.

“Gisele told Tom either he leaves football to spend time with the family or she is gone for good,” a source told Us Weekly last week.

“She doesn’t want him to continue to get injured and not be able to enjoy life in the future. She is doing it for her family.”

However, it appears Brady made the wrong choice as the supermodel filed for divorce shortly after, citing that the union was “irretrievably broken,” according to the court documents.

Although Brady vowed to do “whatever it took” to save their marriage, the NFL star is now doing whatever he can to be the best father — including going to a 4-hour “family stabilization” course.

The father of three has been spotted trick-or-treating, heading to the movies, and volunteering at the food bank with his sons Jack, 15, Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9 in the last week.

Since the split, the athlete says he is “focused on two things, taking care of my family and certainly my children, and secondly, doing the best job I can to win football games.”

Buccaneers vs Falcons: Tom Brady benefits from controversial roughing-the-passer penalty as Bucs snap losing streak

CNN
 —

Tom Brady capped off a tumultuous week for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in fine fashion, snapping the team’s losing streak with a 21-15 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Sunday’s victory wasn’t without controversy though, as Brady and the Bucs benefited from a controversial roughing-the-passer penalty call late in the game which allowed them to hold on to the end.

Leading by six points with just over three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett appeared to have stopped Tampa Bay’s drive with a sack on third down, giving Atlanta the opportunity to attempt to take the lead.

However, referee Jeremy Boger threw a flag penalizing Jarrett for roughing the passer; Jarrett had wrapped Brady in his arms before rolling to the ground with Brady.

The call allowed Brady to retain possession of the ball and run out the clock to seal the victory.

After the game, Boger said he hadn’t been instructed to keep a particular eye on tackles to quarterbacks following the incident with Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa which has subsequently resulted in changes to the NFL’s concussion protocol.

“What I had was the defender grabbed the quarterback while he was still in the pocket and unnecessarily throwing him to the ground,” Boger told pool reporter Greg Auman of the Athletic. “That is what I was making my decision based on.”

However, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles said he believed the call was about more than just because it was Brady.

“I saw that one being called. I saw it against Tua since he got it. I saw it in the London game this morning,” Bowles said. “So I think they’re starting to crack down on some of the things, slinging back, I don’t know. Right now, the way that they’re calling it, I think a lot of people would have gotten that call.”

Jarrett refused to talk to the media after the game – unusual for one of the Falcons’ longest serving players – while Brady said: “I don’t throw flags.”

Despite Atlanta players’ protests, Brady and Bucs were able to close an important victory for the team from Florida, ending the squad’s two-game losing skid and capping off a tumultuous week for the organization.

Having been displaced by Hurricane Ian two weeks ago, the Bucs were later emphatically beaten by the Kansas City Chiefs at home. During the game, Brady appeared to have suffered an arm injury – although he downplayed the seriousness of any potential long-term damage afterwards.

But on Sunday, the Bucs looked much more like themselves, despite the late drama and second-half comeback from the Falcons.

Brady threw a touchdown pass to Leonard Fournette and the running back also scored a rushing touchdown as the Bucs raced into a 21-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

However, two late Falcons touchdowns – an eight-yard run from Avery Williams and then a 19-yard pass from Marcus Mariota to Olamide Zaccheaus – brought the possibility of a dramatic finish.

The controversial roughing-the-passer penalty ended any hopes of a late comeback as the Bucs improved to 3-2 on the season while Atlanta slipped to 2-3.

Despite the bounce-back victory, Brady wasn’t overawed with the performance from the team. “Obviously, it’s tough to lose two straight at home, but we didn’t deserve it,” Brady told the media.

“That’s football – you’ve got to earn it. There’s no easy games; you’ve got to play good. Certainly, five games in, we’ve got a lot of work to do. We’re not nearly at the point we’re capable of being and we need a lot of people to step up.”

The 45-year-old added: “We just had a lot of three-and-outs. We just weren’t very good. Bad execution and it just wasn’t our best in the second half. We have to learn from it and get better.”

Gisele Bündchen ‘done’ with Tom Brady, marriage can’t be ‘repaired’

The Brady Bündchen is beyond repair.

Gisele Bündchen is “done” trying to make her marriage to Tom Brady work, a source close to the model revealed amid rumors that they are heading for Splitsville.

“She is done with their marriage,” the insider told People in an article published Friday. “She was upset about it for a long time and it’s still difficult, but she feels like she needs to move on. She doesn’t believe that her marriage can be repaired.”

But the source also claimed that the Victoria’s Secret model, 42, is “doing OK” amid the heartbreak.

“She is just trying to figure out her life,” the insider said, adding, “She doesn’t have much contact with Tom.”

Bündchen is more worried for the children than for herself. She and the NFL star share son Benjamin Rein, 12, and 9-year-old daughter Vivian Lake. Brady also has a 15-year-old son, John Edward, with his ex Bridget Moynahan.

The source shared that Bündchen “feels bad for the kids, but she doesn’t expect any custody issues.”

She would most likely stay in the $17 million property the pair recently purchased in the ultra-exclusive Indian Creek Island on Miami Beach, the source claimed.

“Gisele loves Miami. She has friends there. She can see herself living there permanently,” the source told the outlet.

“Again, she is still trying to figure things out. She is doing yoga, meditating and taking care of herself. She doesn’t put any pressure on herself to make drastic decisions.”

Bündchen is reportedly doing OK amid the breakup, the source revealed.

This week, Page Six exclusively revealed both Bündchen and Brady, 45, have hired divorce lawyers. The news comes a month after sources told us that the estranged couple had an epic fight resulting in “the end of them.”

“I don’t think there will be any coming back now,” one insider recently told Page Six. “They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”

The pair have been staying in separate houses since moving to Miami and out of Tampa Bay amid devastating Hurricane Ian.

Bündchen has also been spotted on several occasions without her wedding ring, further fueling breakup rumors.

But the supermodel has hinted at marital issues for a while now.

She has apparently had it with Brady continuing with his football career despite his initial decision to retire.

“There’s been trouble in the marriage over his decision to un-retire,” a source had told us. “Gisele has always been the one with the kids. They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”

Brady, for his part, has claimed that family and football are his priorities.

The pair got married in February 2009.

Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen hire divorce lawyers, sources say

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen seem to be heading for the end zone: Both have retained divorce lawyers, multiple sources tell Page Six exclusively.

As previously revealed, the couple have been living separately for the past couple months following an epic fight — and they’re now apparently looking at dividing up their multimillion-dollar empire.

“I never actually thought this argument would be the end of them, but it looks like it is,” one source in the know tells Page Six.

“I don’t think there will be any coming back now. They both have lawyers and are looking at what a split will entail, who gets what and what the finances will be.”

Reps for Brady and Bündchen did not respond to requests for comment.

Insiders close to the seven-time Super Bowl champ, 45, and the supermodel, 42 — who have been married since 2009 — say both are very involved in their children’s lives and would share joint custody in any separation.

They share son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9, and Brady is also the father of son Jack, 15, with ex Bridget Moynahan.

Insiders say Brady and Bündchen are committed to their children: Benjamin (from left), Jack — Brady’s son with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan — and Vivian.

The couple would likely file for divorce in Florida, as that’s where they are primarily based, legal experts say. Another source who knows the couple confirm they are looking at dividing their assets, which includes a $26 million property portfolio.

From 2021 to 2022, Brady’s estimated overall net worth swelled from $180 million to $250 million. In May, Forbes reported he is now the ninth-highest-paid athlete in the world, with endorsement deals including Under Armour, Sam Adams, Foot Locker and Tag Heuer.

The couple also own a condo at 70 Vestry St. in Tribeca, valued at $3.6 million, as well as a $5.7 million property at developer Mike Meldman’s Yellowstone Club in Montana.

Ahead of Hurricane Ian, the pair both fled Tampa, where Brady is playing for the Buccaneers, and went to Miami, where they have been staying apart. Bündchen has been spotted there over the past few days.

A source told us that Bündchen has been staying in the Miami home that she and Brady rented in 2020; it’s not clear where the quarterback was holed up.

Although sources close to Bündchen have stressed that it is “sexist” to say the split is over the model’s issues with Brady reneging on his NFL retirement, the source in the know says, “As with many marriages, it’s not just one thing. Gisele has made it clear that she worried about Tom playing football and that they had had many talks about it.

“But they have had a series of blowups over the past few years, and this time it looks like there’s no going back.”

Tom Brady takes family to Miami ahead of Hurricane Ian

Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen packed up their things and left their Tampa Bay home with their children as Hurricane Ian continues to gain traction.

The pair, who have been plagued with rumors of marital woes in recent weeks, headed for their Miami home, an insider told People Tuesday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, 45, and Brazilian supermodel, 42, made the quick move with son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9. Joining them was Brady’s son John Edward Thomas Moynahan, whom he shares with actress Bridget Moynahan.

It came just hours after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they were evacuating to the Miami area as the storm approaches.

The team said it will practice at the Miami Dolphins’ facility ahead of their face-off with the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made contingency plans for this week’s preparations for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs,” the team said in a statement.

“The Buccaneers are expected to practice at the Miami Dolphins’ Baptist Health Training Complex in Miami Gardens, Florida, starting on Wednesday, through the end of Week 4 preparations, if necessary. The Dolphins play at Cincinnati in Week Four and would be finished with their on-field preparations by Wednesday morning.”

Tom Brady’s decision to leave became known shortly after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers said they were evacuating.

The team said Sunday’s game is still expected to go ahead at this time.

“The NFL, in consultation with team and local officials, will continue to monitor the situation,” the statement concluded.

On Tuesday, the seven-time Super Bowl winner called the hurricane “pretty intense.”

“This is a little different for me. I’ve never had to deal with anything like this. We had COVID for a couple of years and now with this seems like a pretty intense hurricane coming our way,” he said.

Hurricane Ian is causing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to evacuate to the Miami area.

“I don’t think Tampa’s probably, I don’t think any place is very well suited for a hurricane to hit, but everyone in this area will be in our thoughts and prayers as we go through it. I know our team is going to have to adjust, go to Miami and practice there for the week, and then hopefully we can come back later in the week and play against the Chiefs Sunday night.”

He continued, “I don’t think that anyone’s really prepared for this. I know I’ve been preparing all morning and get all my stuff outside, try to put it inside, try to get all the stuff on the ground level up a little bit higher.

“I’m right here on the bay so they’re talking about pretty high storm surges and it’s a scary thing. I will say that it’s a scary thing when it really hits your doorstep.”

Tom Brady’s task ‘if he wants to stay married’ to Gisele Bündchen

Tom Brady is “doing what he can do to smooth things over” with wife Gisele Bündchen amid tension in their 13-year union over his decision to un-retire from the NFL, according to a new report.

The Buccaneers quarterback, who recently kicked off his 23rd year in the league with a win against the Cowboys on Sunday, knows “that this is his last season if he wants to stay married,” a source told People on Wednesday.

“She doesn’t hate that he’s playing football, but she sure hates the way he handled the retirement and coming back,” the insider said of Bündchen, 42, and Brady, 45.

“He knows that, and he’s doing what he can do to smooth things over. He does know that this is his last season if he wants to stay married.”

The source also told the publication that the couple’s marriage isn’t “over by any means.” Meanwhile, CNN reported Thursday that Brady and Bündchen are “living separately” amid the marital woes.

Brady first announced in February that he was stepping away from the game after 22 seasons. A month later, however, he changed course and rejoined the Buccaneers.

“These past two months I have realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands. That time will come. But it’s not now,” Brady posted on Instagram in March, to which Bündchen replied, “Here we go again! Let’s go lovvvey!”

The couple has been married since 2009.

Leading up to the start of the regular season, Brady stepped away from training camp for 11 days in August due to personal reasons. In the days following his return, Page Six exclusively reported that Brady and Bündchen were in the midst of a big fight.

“There’s been trouble in the marriage over his decision to un-retire. Gisele has always been the one with the kids,” a source told Page Six in early September.

“They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind.”

For Brady’s first game of the regular season, though, Bündchen — who shares son Benjamin, 12, and daughter Vivian, 9, with the seven-time Super Bowl champ — tweeted a message of support.

“Let’s go @TomBrady ! Let’s go Bucs!” she wrote Sunday, the same day Brady’s Buccaneers topped the Cowboys, 19-3.

With Brady gearing up for a Week 2 showdown against the Saints in New Orleans, Bündchen is said to be in New York as part of Fashion Week, Page Six reported Tuesday, the same day her Elle cover story dropped.

In the feature, which is part of the publication’s October 2022 issue, Bündchen spoke about her future plans.

“I’ve done my part, which is [to] be there for [Tom]. I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams. Seeing my children succeed and become the beautiful little humans that they are, seeing him succeed, and being fulfilled in his career— it makes me happy. At this point in my life, I feel like I’ve done a good job on that,” the supermodel told Elle, later adding, “I have a huge list of things that I have to do, that I want to do.”

Gisele Bündchen tweeted her support to Tom Brady for his first game of the season this past Sunday.

When Brady does hang up his cleats for good, the quarterback — who is also a dad to 15-year-old son Jack with ex Bridget Moynahan — will slide into the broadcast booth as Fox Sports’ lead NFL analyst. He agreed to a monster 10-year, $375 million deal with the network, The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported in May.

Reps for Brady and Bündchen did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

‘I’m still here … that’s all noise’

TAMPA, Fla. — Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa told reporters last week that he believes the team is “all in” on him despite its prior interest in Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

His answer was even more succinct Wednesday when asked again about his reaction to that interest.

“Yeah, I mean, I’m still here,” he said. “To me, that’s all noise at this point.”

Tagovailoa and the Dolphins practiced with Brady’s Buccaneers on Wednesday, the first of two joint practices before the teams’ preseason opener Saturday at Raymond James Stadium. The timing of their joint practice coincidentally comes one week after the NFL disciplined Miami for impermissible contact with Brady in 2019 and 2021 — failed efforts to persuade him to join the Dolphins as a limited partner, football executive and possibly as a player.

The league fined Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and limited partner and vice chairman Bruce Beal a combined $2 million and stripped the Dolphins of their 2023 first-round draft pick and 2024 third-round pick in response to their contact with Brady and impermissible contact with then-New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton before his retirement in January.

Tagovailoa had an extended exchange with the reporter who asked him about his reaction to the league’s investigation, during which he insisted that Miami’s interest in Brady was in the past.

Speaking to local media last week, Tagovailoa said he generally keeps a tight circle around him and doesn’t pay attention to any narrative surrounding him until he’s asked.

“I would say the only thing that gets frustrating is if you hear it every day or if you see it every day,” he said. “For me, I eliminate all of that. Don’t hear it. Don’t see it. I go home, go to my family, study, wake up the next day, come back and enjoy football. I hear everything obviously from the media and then when [the communications staff] preps me for whatever you guys are going to say, then I’m like, ‘Ah, I’ve got to answer this. All right, let me figure out something politically correct to say.'”

Brady was not made available to the media Wednesday and has not issued a public comment about the tampering incidents. Tagovailoa said he spoke with Brady at the Bucs’ facility Wednesday — mainly about the offseason and golf, although Tagovailoa said he asked the seven-time Super Bowl champion for some football insight, but didn’t specify any further details.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel downplayed the impact of practicing with Brady and the effect last week’s news has on his team.

“For me, nothing happened. Everyone else is the one making it awkward,” McDaniel said. “It doesn’t occupy a single iota of space with anybody. It’s hard enough to be good in this league. As the Miami Dolphins, all of our energy is very coordinated and only has to do with us getting better and everything else would be an opportunity cost that we’re not willing to expend.”
