Rams vs. Cardinals score: Live updates, Week 10 highlights, analysis; Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford out

With both starting quarterbacks sitting out due to injuries, the Arizona Cardinals held a 17-3 lead over the Los Angeles Rams at halftime at SoFi Stadium. The Rams’ Matthew Stafford (concussion) and Cardinals Kyler Murray (hamstring) were both game-time decisions, and neither could go.

That meant it was Colt McCoy starting for the Cardinals and John Wolford starting for the Rams. Unsurprisingly, the game has been slow offensively, with each team managing just a field goal until the end of the second quarter, when the Cardinals finally got in the end zone. James Connor got in with a four-yard run, giving Arizona its first lead of the game.

The Cardinals got some momentum from their first touchdown and came back before the half ended to score another one, this time a pass from McCoy to A.J. Green.

The Rams specifically struggled offensively in the second quarter, with no first downs in the quarter as they took the ball with less than two minutes remaining in the half. They’ve been looking to reverse the post-Super Bowl victory slump, and it has not happened yet.

Keep up with everything that happens in the second half with our live updates below:

NFL Week 10 injuries: Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford questionable for pivotal games

The second half of the 2022 NFL regular season got underway on Thursday night when the Panthers were able to fend off the Falcons at home, and now we have a full slate of Sunday games on deck for Week 10. That includes an international affair between the Seahawks and Buccaneers for the history books. For the first time ever, a regular-season game will be played in Munich. Of course, that’ll be appointment viewing early Sunday morning, as will the rest of the slate.

As is the case each week, a new group of games comes a new collection of injuries that we need to follow. This week in particular, several quarterbacks have their statuses up in the air, so all eyes will be on them. With teams finishing up the week of practice, they’ve released their final injury reports and rolled out game statuses for Week 10. Below, you’ll be able to find each of those reports and a breakdown of some of the biggest injuries.

All NFL odds via Caesars Sportsbook.

Seahawks at Buccaneers (-2.5), in Munich

Seattle is pretty healthy coming into this international head-to-head. Goodwin is officially listed as questionable, but he was able to practice fully on Friday, which is an encouraging sign of his availability. Meanwhile, Gillaspia was the only other player listed on the final injury report and was ruled out after not practicing all week.

Brate is the only player listed on the Bucs final injury report who made the trip to Germany. He was a full participant throughout the week, so it does seem like he has a good chance of playing. Despite being listed as questionable all week, wideout Mike Evans (ribs, ankle) does not carry a designation. It’s also worth noting that safety Antoine Winfield Jr. cleared concussion protocol and will play.

The Vikings have had a light injury report all season, but Tomlinson being out again is their first major player missing a game in weeks. Starting center Garrett Bradbury (ankle) was a full participant Friday after being limited Thursday. He was not given an injury designation.

After missing the first two practices of the week, Allen returned to the field on Friday in a limited capacity and was officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s matchup against Minnesota. Sean McDermott told reporters earlier on Friday that Allen’s status is really “hour-to-hour” so it does seem like he is a true game-time decision.

The promising news for Detroit is that running back D’Andre Swift not only doesn’t carry an injury designation for this game, but he was able to practice fully for the first time in weeks on Friday. Meanwhile, Reynolds was unable to hit the field at all this week, so it’s not surprising to see him already ruled out.

Jenkins being limited in Friday’s practice is something to monitor for the Bears. He’s been the team’s best offensive lineman this year, a force in the run game. If he can’t go, Michael Schofield is slated to start. No Vildor will cause problems for the Bears in the nickel defense, especially if Johnson can’t play. Johnson is arguably the team’s best cornerback.

  • Broncos: TE Andrew Beck (hamstring), OLB Baron Browning (hamstring), WR KJ Hamler (hamstring) OUT; T Cameron Fleming (quad), S Justin Simmons (knee), CB Darius Phillips (illness), LB Nik Bonitto (illness), WR Kendall Hinton (illness) QUESTIONABLE
  • Titans: LB Zach Cunningham (elbow), OLB Bud Dupree (hip), S Amani Hooker (shoulder), DE Jeffery Simmons (ankle), DB Josh Thompson (knee) OUT; CB Kristian Fulton (hamstring), DT Kevin Strong (ankle), QB Ryan Tannehill (ankle) QUESTIONABLE

Hamler and Beck both suffered hamstring injuries in practice for the Broncos this week, which head coach Nathaniel Hackett will be evaluating coming out of the bye week. Jonathon Cooper and Jacob Martin were the only outside linebackers on the Broncos roster that were able to practice Friday, which could leave Denver thin at the position if Bonitto can’t go this week.

The Titans have four defensive starters out of this one, but the major status for Sunday’s game is Tannehill. The quarterback was limited in Friday’s practice. Head coach Mike Vrabel was noncommittal on Tannehill, but said the quarterback was “making progress.” If Tannehill misses his third straight game, Malik Willis will start.

  • Jaguars: S Rayshawn Jenkins (concussion) QUESTIONABLE
  • Chiefs: WR Mecole Hardman (abdomen) OUT; RB Jerick McKinnon (shoulder, knee, hamstring) QUESTIONABLE

Jacksonville continues to be one of the healthiest teams in the NFL. Only Jenkins carries a designation entering Week 10 and he was limited in practice on Friday. Tight end Evan Engram was listed on the injury report with a back injury, but practiced fully and is good to go for Sunday.

Hardman didn’t practice at all this week due to an abdomen injury and will be held out of Kansas City’s Week 10 matchup against the Jags. Meanwhile, McKinnon was downgraded to a limited participant during Friday’s practice after being a full participant the two days prior. The pass-catching back is dealing with an array of injuries and is now officially questionable.

The bye week wasn’t enough for the Browns to get Njoku healthy and ready to go for this game against Miami. This is the second game that Njoku has missed due to a high-ankle injury he suffered against the Ravens in Week 7. With him sidelined, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown will be the club’s top tight ends. Meanwhile, Owusu-Koramoah will also miss his second straight game.

Armstead sat out practice Friday and was listed as questionable, but that’s been normal on the injury report this year. He typically hasn’t practiced more than once a week this year a she deals with a toe injury, but has played eight games. Jackson may also be in line to play his first game since Week 1, but he was limited Friday.

Houston may be getting back its top two wide receivers in Week 10. Both Cooks and Collins were able to practice on a limited basis this week and are officially listed as questionable. Reeves-Maybin was also upgraded to a full participant on Friday, which bodes well for his prospects of playing.

Golladay hasn’t played since Week 4 but is expected to be available on Sunday against Houston. Golladay, who has largely disappointed since arriving in New York, was limited throughout the week and is officially listed as questionable. Flott and Ximines were also limited all week. As for Neal, this is the second straight game he’s missed due to his knee injury.

None of the players who were ruled out practiced at all this week, including Lattimore. While New Orleans continues to deal with a bunch of injuries, they did get an encouraging sign from Jarvis Landry. The veteran wide receiver does not carry an injury designation and is in line to play on Sunday.

Jackson and Witherspoon did not practice all week and have since been ruled out for Week 10. Dotson popped up on the injury report on Friday as a limited participant due to an abdomen injury and is now listed as questionable. Meanwhile, pass rusher T.J. Watt told reporters that he expects to play Sunday and does not anticipate being on any sort of snap count.

The major development for the Colts is Jonathan Taylor (ankle), who was a full participant in Friday’s practice and was not given an injury designation. Jackson will be out, so Zack Moss, and possibly Jordan Wilkins, will spell Taylor against the Raiders. Kylen Granson will be the lone tight end if Alie-Cox — who was limited Friday — can’t go. Paye hasn’t practiced all week, so he’ll be a game-time decision.

The Raiders only have Perryman on the injury report, and he was limited in Friday’s practice. Las Vegas will be without Darren Waller (hamstring) and Hunter Renfrow (oblique), as both players were placed on injured/reserve Thursday.

Elliott may be questionable for the Cowboys, but he’s expected to play based on the praise of Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy. Dalton Schultz (knee), Micah Parsons (shoulder) and Michael Gallup (chest) were also cleared to play this week.

The Packers have three starters out in Doubs, Campbell, and Stokes, but have other starters that weren’t given injury designations. Allen Lazard (shoulder) and Sammy Watkins (knee) are available at wide receiver, Aaron Jones (ankle) will play, and Jon Runyan (knee) and Elgton Jenkins (knee) will play. Bakhtiari was limited Friday, so his status for Sunday will be monitored.

  • Cardinals: G Max Garcia (shoulder), C Rodney Hudson (knee) OUT; CB Byron Murphy (back), QB Kyler Murray (hamstring), LB Dennis Gardeck (ankle), T D.J. Humphries (back), CB Christian Matthew (hamstring), WR Greg Dortch (groin) QUESTIONABLE
  • Rams: RB Malcolm Brown (hamstring), LB Travin Howard (hip) OUT; NT Greg Gaines (elbow), G Alaric Jackson (knee) DOUBTFUL; C Brian Allen (knee), CB Robert Rochell (illness), QB Matthew Stafford (concussion) QUESTIONABLE

The Cardinals have a monster list of injuries, starting with Murray — who is a game-time decision. Murray was limited the last two days with a hamstring injury suffered last week. Murray’s mobility is limited, but he can stay in the pocket and play — per head coach Kliff Kingsbury. The Cardinals are also going to monitor the status of Murphy, who didn’t practice all week but was still listed as questionable.

Stafford is the player to watch for the Rams, as he’ll have to clear concussion protocol in order to play. If not, John Wolford will get the start for Los Angeles. Los Angeles is getting some reinforcements with right guard Coleman Shelton and running back Kyren Williams both being active for Sunday’s game.

Allen is still “week-to-week” with his injury, not having played since Week 7 — when he logged just 22 snaps (has played 45 all year). Williams is still out with his ankle injury, missing his third straight game. he wasn’t placed on injured reserve, so that will be something to watch in Week 11. Joey Bosa hasn’t been activated from injured reserve, but there’s some hope  he may be available Sunday. DeAndre Carter and Josh Palmer are the top two options at wide receiver this week. If Pipkins can’t go, both starting tackles (Rashawn Slater and Pipkins) will be out for Los Angeles.

Nick Bosa is the only starter who is expected to play on the 49ers defensive line. Javon Kinlaw could be activated by next week and Ebukam is doubtful for Sunday’s game. Drake Jackson could see more snaps, per head coach Kyle Shanahan. Deebo Samuel was not on the injury report.

Kelly Stafford “Angry” After NFL Husband Enters Concussion Protocol

For Kelly Stafford, the NFL is so much more than just a game.

On Nov. 9, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed to reporters that quarterback Matthew Stafford has entered the concussion protocol. Hours later, his wife reacted to the news and explained why the development brings so many emotions.

“If you follow NFL, you just heard Matthew got put into concussion protocol,” Kelly wrote on The Morning After podcast’s Instagram Stories. “If you have listened to my podcast at all, you know how a big a deal it is to me. The head is not something to be messed with…and I hope as this sport develops, so does the concern for head health and the research around it.”

“And no, I’m not ok,” she continued. “I have every emotion running through me. Concerned, angry, sad, tired…all of them.”

In his latest press conference, Sean told reporters that he didn’t have any indication Matthew was dealing with concussion symptoms during the Rams’ Nov. 6 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But after the Super Bowl champion was examined by medical staff, he was asked to follow protocol.

Stafford County, Virginia: High school will stay open while hundreds of students call out sick with flu-like symptoms

CNN
 —

Hundreds of students missed class Monday at a northern Virginia high school where “a number of students have tested positive for influenza A” and others have symptoms consistent with the flu.

The number of students who stayed home from Stafford High School in Fredericksburg dropped from about 1,000 Friday to 670 on Monday, officials said.

Stafford County Public Schools spokesperson Sandra K. Osborn said the school has undergone a deep cleaning and disinfecting as officials search for answers.

“We have investigated the water fountains and meals service, and do not believe there is a connection between either of those services and these illnesses,” Osborn said in a statement.

Osborn said the Virginia Department of Health recommends keeping the school open.

Officials did cancel sports games against other schools through Tuesday. But activities such as homework, test makeup, clubs and athletic practices can be held, Osborn added, saying the decision was reached after consulting the health department.

The Rappahannock Area Health District said it is working with school officials to investigate a possible disease outbreak.

“The school has reported that a number of students have tested positive for influenza A, and more are showing respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms consistent with the flu,” officials said in a statement.

Stafford High School has an approximate enrollment of 2,100 students, Osborn has said.

An early increase in seasonal flu activity has been reported in most of the US, with the nation’s southeast and south-central regions reporting the highest levels of flu nationwide as of Friday, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

School districts elsewhere in the US have also reported an uptick in flu-like symptoms among students. At least two high schools in the San Diego Unified School District had high rates of absences this month, with one school recording about 1,000 absences out of 2,600 students, a school spokesperson told CNN.

Flu activity in the US often starts to increase in October and usually peaks between December and February, according to the CDC’s website.

Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow are second pair of No. 1 overall pick QBs to meet in the Super Bowl

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford and Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow have taken very different paths to Super Bowl LVI, but they both started their careers the same way, as the first overall pick in the NFL draft.

Stafford vs. Burrow is just the second time that both Super Bowl starting quarterbacks were first overall picks. The first time was six years ago, when Peyton Manning’s Broncos beat Cam Newton‘s Panthers.

The Lions drafted Stafford first overall in the 2009 NFL draft, and they never sniffed a Super Bowl with him: Detroit made the playoffs only three times with Stafford, losing in the wild card round all three times, before trading him to the Rams after 12 seasons. He’s now in the Super Bowl in his first year as a Ram.

The Bengals drafted Burrow first overall in the 2020 NFL draft, and after a rookie season cut short by a serious knee injury, his second season has been everything Cincinnati dreamed of when Burrow arrived.

In two weeks, one of them will be celebrating with the Lombardi Trophy.

Matthew Stafford leads Rams to Super Bowl, pays off trade

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — There were still 25 seconds left in Sunday’s NFC championship game when Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay left the sideline in search of his quarterback.

As soon as he spotted Matthew Stafford at the 35-yard line, McVay sprinted in his direction and wrapped him in an emotional hug, one year in the making.

Exactly 365 days before they eliminated their biggest nemesis and secured the chance to host Super Bowl LVI, the Rams made a seismic trade that was perceived as a gamble at the time. They sent two future first-round draft picks, a third-round selection and onetime franchise quarterback Jared Goff to Detroit in exchange for the talented but inconsistent Stafford.

One year later, during a heart-pounding 20-17 victory over the 49ers to reach the Super Bowl, Stafford showed why the Rams were right to give up that haul to get him. He completed 31 of 45 passes for 337 yards and made a series of big plays with the season on the line that Goff never could have.

Sometimes, Stafford wowed the Rams with his pinpoint passes. He capped a 97-yard, 18-play second-quarter march with a gem of a corner route to Cooper Kupp between two helpless defenders.

Other times, his resilience was his biggest attribute. He kept right on slinging the ball, even after Kupp and Ben Skowronek dropped potential second-quarter touchdown passes and the Rams fell behind by 10 points midway through the third quarter.

And once, Stafford caught a lucky break and capitalized. After 49ers safety Jaquiski Tartt had a gift-wrapped interception bounce off his chest and fingertips early in the fourth quarter, Stafford steadied himself and drove the Rams for game-tying and game-winning field goals.

In his postgame news conference, as jubilant Rams fans banged on the walls and pulsating rap music blared in the background, McVay was asked, “Is this why you went out and got Matthew Stafford?”

The Rams coach stifled a laugh and said, “What do you think the answer to that question is?”

“We went out and got him because we thought it was a chance to get a great player,” McVay continued. “Those chances don’t come around often. What he’s done, he’s elevated everyone around him. He’s made me a better coach. He’s made his teammates better. He’s such a great person. If you don’t root for this guy, something’s wrong with you.”

A few minutes later, seated at the same podium that McVay had just occupied, Stafford reminisced about his “excitement” at learning the Rams had traded for him. In an instant, he went from a Detroit team that hadn’t won a playoff game in three decades to a Rams franchise that had pushed all their chips into the middle of the table to try to win the Super Bowl.

“This is a long time coming, you know?” Stafford said. “I’ve spent a lot of years in this league and I’ve loved every minute of it. But I sure am happy for this opportunity, not only for myself but for a lot of other guys in the locker room that deserve it too.”

That Stafford’s crowning moment came at the expense of the 49ers made the victory all the more sweet. Not only had the Rams lost six straight games against their NFC West rivals, they had also squandered two chances to step on the 49ers’ necks already this season.

On a Monday night in mid-November, the 49ers entered a home game against the Rams at 3-5, teetering on the brink of a second straight lost season. That night, the 49ers ambushed the previously surging Rams, rediscovered their identity and gained the belief they had what it took to compete with the NFC’s best teams.

Eight weeks later, the 49ers traveled to SoFi Stadium needing to win to salvage a playoff spot. Energized by a roaring red-clad crowd, the 49ers rallied from a 17-0 deficit to save their season and ignite a playoff run.

When the Rams faced a 17-7 third quarter deficit on Sunday night, it seemed that the Rams might regret not eliminating the 49ers when they had the chance. Their desperation even began to show when they burned all three second-half timeouts by the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter, two on dubious McVay challenges that had little hope of reversing calls.

Despite relentless pressure from the 49ers’ formidable defensive line, Stafford and his receiving corps saved McVay from an offseason of second-guessing. Kupp caught both of Stafford’s touchdown passes, Odell Beckham Jr. furthered his redemptive arc with nine catches for 113 yards and backup tight end Kendall Blanton filled in admirably for an injured Tyler Higbee with five crucial receptions.

That group had a chance to put their team up seven late in the fourth quarter, but the Rams had to settle for a go-ahead Matt Gay field goal after their drive stalled deep in 49ers territory. That left Stafford pacing nervously in front of the bench until three plays later, when Aaron Donald muscled through the 49ers’ offensive line and forced Jimmy Garoppolo into a catastrophic interception.

“I wish we would’ve put seven up there,” Stafford said with a smile afterward. “I would have felt a whole lot better on the sideline.”

Finally, after Travin Howard’s interception secured victory for the Rams, Stafford could exhale. At 33, he reveled in shedding the label of not being able to win a big game and piloting his new team to its second Super Bowl in four years.

When speaking to reporters, Stafford fielded a question about what it would be like to play the Super Bowl at home. His bluntly honest answer offered a window into his mindset.

“As long as we’re playing in it, Stafford said, “I don’t give a s*** where it is.”

Drivers Stranded for 15+ Hours on I-95 in Stafford County, Va. – NBC4 Washington

Drivers have been stuck on Interstate 95 in the Stafford County, Virginia, area for more than 15 hours after multiple trucks crashed amid a major snowstorm that left snow and ice packed onto the road.

Many drivers are out of gas. Some don’t have food or water. Some say they have kids, pets and family members with medical needs in the car.

“We are getting to people as soon as we can. We understand the severity of the situation,” Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Kelly Hannon said.

Chopper4 flew over Interstate 95 on Tuesday morning, where drivers had been stranded for 15 hours or more.

VDOT says a plan is underway to guide trapped vehicles to interchanges and alternative routes. Prince William County firefighters were seen handing out blankets and water bottles Tuesday morning. The governor’s office says it’s working to open warming centers, according to a statement shared by WTOP’s Nick Iannelli.

Driver Anne Gould said traffic stopped on Monday afternoon while she was on her annual trek to Florida. Gould said she’d only moved a few car lengths by Tuesday about 6:20 a.m.

“There’s cars and trucks as far as I can see behind me, and in front of me, and it’s looked like this for 12 hours,” she said Tuesday morning.

As of 7 a.m. Tuesday, traffic was at a standstill. The Virginia Department of Transportation confirmed both directions of I-95 are shut down between Ruther Glen, Virginia, in Caroline County and exit 152 in Dumfries, Prince William County. That’s a 48-mile closure through the Fredericksburg area, which recorded 14.1 inches of snow Monday.

“We are working to get traffic moving again as best we can using every available interchange between Prince William & Caroline counties,” VDOT Fredericksburg said. “There are interchanges at the following mm: Exit 104, 110 Caroline, 118, 126 Spotsy, 130 FXBG 133, 136, 140, 143, 148 Stafford, 150 & 152 PW.”

Virginia State Police said the lengthy closure was implemented so crews could safely reach stranded motorists. The agency responded to more than 1,000 crashes since midnight Tuesday, and travel is discouraged, Gov. Ralph Northam said in a statement.

“This is unprecedented, and we continue to steadily move stopped trucks to make progress toward restoring lanes,” VDOT Fredericksburg District Engineer Marcie Parker said in a statement.

“In addition to clearing the trucks, we are treating for snow and several inches of ice that has accumulated around them to ensure that when the lanes reopen, motorists can safely proceed to their destination,” Parker said.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were shut down at mile marker 136 near Centreport Parkway after a crash involving six tractor-trailers at noon Monday. No one was hurt, but that collision contributed to major backups.

Towing crews, plows and Virginia State Police were helping with the effort, Hannon said. Crews were also trying to move trucks blocking roads.

Hannon said to call 911 if you know someone out there who needs urgent medical attention.

For everyone else, she said she knows this is a dire situation, and they’re working to get people home.

Nisa Semesta, who was stuck on the southbound side for more than 12 hours with two cats in her car, said drivers couldn’t even get off the interstate for supplies. Side roads were also impassable.

“We’re really worried about our access to food, water and sanitation at the moment,” said. “I know some people are starting to get worried about gas.”

Truck driver Emily Clementson suggested people ask truck drivers if they have extra supplies, such as snacks or water bottles. She said many truck drivers prepare in case they get stranded.

Clementson said the conditions changed as soon as she and a co-driver came into Virginia.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Clementson said.

Hundreds of drivers got stuck or in crashes throughout the region Monday as snow accumulated until around 3 p.m.

NFL announces Pro Bowl team, and Kyler Murray beats out Matthew Stafford

Getty Images

Matthew Stafford made only one Pro Bowl in his 12 years in Detroit. He continues to wait for his second Pro Bowl nod, which seemed like a lock in his first season with the Rams.

Players, coaches and fans selected Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray over Stafford, even though Murray missed three games this season.

The NFL announced the rest of the Pro Bowl rosters Wednesday night after initially naming five Pro Bowlers on Monday in billboards in Las Vegas to promote the game scheduled for Feb. 6. The league announced 13 more Pro Bowlers before the Monday Night Football doubleheader.

Tom Brady made his 15th Pro Bowl, breaking a five-way tie with Tony Gonzalez, Bruce Matthews, Merlin Olsen and Peyton Manning for the most all-star selections ever. It was the first time he has made the NFC team. Murray was selected over Brady in 2020, which was Murray’s first selection.

Aaron Rodgers was selected as the starter in the NFC for the 2022 game, his 10th selection.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was selected as the starter for the AFC. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson also made the roster at the position.

The Colts led the way with seven Pro Bowlers. The Chiefs (six), Chargers (six), Ravens (five), Browns (five), Cowboys (five), 49ers (five) and Buccaneers (five) all had at least five on the all-star teams.
