Iranian refugee slams John Kerry’s ‘anti-American’ backdoor meetings with Iran during Trump admin

Iranian refugee and former Trump official Ellie Cohanim slammed John Kerry on Wednesday, calling the former secretary of state’s backdoor meetings with Iran during Trump’s presidency “anti-American” and an attempt to undermine the administration’s foreign policy stances.

During an appearance on “Fox and Friends,” the former State Department special envoy called the Biden administration’s talks with Iran to reenter the nuclear deal “diplomatic malpractice” and urged them to stop making unilateral concessions and instead increase demands on the Iranian regime.

“What exactly was it that John Kerry was telling them – just ignore America until we’re back in power?” Cohanim said. “It’s kind of unbelievable.”

NORTH KOREA AND IRAN TEAMING UP AGAIN AS US WEIGHS IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL

Cohanim said that the maximum pressure campaign under the Trump administration to hold the Iranians accountable was one of the strongest on the regime in American history and has brought the country to its weakest point in 43 years.

The former Trump official pointed to Iran’s economic downturn, mishandling of the coronavirus, and civil unrest as evidence the country is on the “verge of collapse.”

Biden administration officials, including John Kerry and Robert Malley, had meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif during the Trump administration that were orchestrated to undermine President Biden’s predecessor, a recent report from The Washington Times claimed.

Zarif held meetings with Obama administration veterans who could return to power “to devise a political strategy to undermine the Trump administration” and usher in softer diplomacy between the U.S. and Iran.

Kerry, who is now President Biden’s top climate envoy, has been open about the fact that he met with Zarif at least twice during the Trump administration, prompting Trump to say he should be prosecuted under the Logan Act.

Golfer Michelle Wie West slams Rudy Giuliani for lewd comments about her putting stance

Pro golfer Michelle Wie West blasted Rudy Giulani on Friday night over lewd comments he made about her on Steve Bannon’s podcast, “War Room.” The former New York City mayor had shared a story on Thursday about Rush Limbaugh, who died earlier that day, in which he and the late rightwing talk show host caught glimpses of Wie’s underwear while golfing.

Wie, who has won 5 LPGA titles, called the story “highly inappropriate” in a note shared on Twitter. “What this person should have remembered from that day was the fact that I shot 64 and beat every male golfer in the field leading our team to victory,” she wrote. “I shudder thinking he was smiling to my face and complimenting my game while objectifying me and referencing my ‘panties’ behind my back all day.”

According to Giuliani, during a charity tournament where amateurs paid to play with pro golfers, his and Limbaugh’s group — which also included Roger Ailes and Cigar Aficionado publisher Marvin Shanken — was paired with Wie. Giuliani asked Bannon if he could share a “funny story,” and launched into the anecdote, in which he says he and Limbaugh were trying to avoid the paparazzi trailing them, before realizing that they weren’t the focus.

“On the green is Michelle Wie, and she is getting ready to putt,” Giuliani said “Now, Michelle Wie is gorgeous. She’s 6 feet. And she has a strange putting stance. She bends all the way over and her panties show. And the press was going crazy. …They were trying to take pictures of her panties. I said ‘[Rush], it’s not me, it’s not you, it’s her panties.'”

He ended the story with, “Is that okay to tell that joke? I’m not sure.”

Bannon replied, “We already told it, so I don’t know.”

While Wie’s note didn’t directly name Giuliani, she confirmed that she’d led the group to victory. She also addressed his comments on her stance, saying, “My putting stance six years ago was designed to improve my putting stats (I ended up winning the US Open that year), NOT as an invitation to look up my skirt!”

She added, “What should be discussed is the elite skill level that women play at, not what we wear or look like.”

Twitter users lauded her response, which also sparked a discussion about misogyny and sexism in sports.

Coaches and parents of young female golfers weighed in as well, sharing some of the experiences they’ve seen in the sport.

There were also criticisms of sports maker Nike for female golfers’ outfits.

The United States Golfing Association also got involved, sharing Wie’s Tweet with the comment: “Sexism has no place in golf or life. We are always in your corner, @MichelleWieWest.”

Wie has been on hiatus from the tour circuit recently, after giving birth to her daughter last June.

Time’s Up Organization Slams Notion Of Brett Ratner Comeback – Deadline

The Time’s Up organization, founded as a movement against sexual harassment, has reacted to the announcement that director Brett Ratner intends to return to work in Hollywood.

In November 2017, seven women accused Hollywood filmmaker Brett Ratner of sexual harassment and misconduct, leading Warner Bros to cut off ties with Ratner.

As Deadline reported, Millennium Media is reportedly teaming up with Ratner’s RatPac Entertainment on a Milli Vanilli biopic, and is launching sales ahead of the upcoming virtual EFM. The project would mark Ratner’s first feature directing job since the 2014 Hercules. He has since kept a low profile.

Today, Tina Tchen, the Time’s Up president and CEO, issued a statement condemning the move.

“Time’s Up was born out of the national reckoning on workplace sexual harassment,” said Tchen. “Our movement is a product of countless courageous acts by many survivors, including those who spoke out about what they endured at the hands of Brett Ratner.

“Not only did Ratner never acknowledge or apologize for the harm he caused, but he also filed lawsuits in an attempt to silence the voices of survivors who came forward – a tactic right out of the predator’s playbook. You don’t get to go away for a couple years and then resurface and act like nothing happened. We have not – and will not – forget. And Millennium Media shouldn’t either. There should be no comeback. #wewontforgetbrett”

Deadline will post comments from Ratner if he responds to the statement.

Khloe Kardashian slams fan over Kylie Jenner, Jordyn Woods drama

Khloe Kardashian unleashed her frustrations Thursday after a fan insinuated she’s keeping sister Kylie Jenner from reconciling with former bestie, Jordyn Woods.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” star, 36, is currently seen on the show getting along with ex Tristan Thompson, 29, who’s cheating scandal with Woods, 23, led to the ultimate demise of their relationship.

Their chummy behavior led one fan to wonder why Jenner and Woods couldn’t be friends again, as all parties involved seem to have moved on from the situation.

“So, is Kylie allowed to be friends with Jordyn again,” the user asked, with Kardashian responding, “I’m so sick and tired of this narrative that I control my sister, or I dictate who she chooses to surround herself with.”

The Good American founder went on, “Never once have I ever, and i mean EVER, told my sister who she can be friends with. She is an adult who can do whatever she wants to do. I will support her in anything and everything she wants to do! I love my sister unconditionally. That means regardless of who she choose to be friends with, I will always love, respect and value my sister unconditionally!

“She is my life partner, and I will always respect what she chooses!!! By the way, I have no ill feelings towards ANYONE!!! Truly. My heart carries no hatred at all. Unless you actually know what you’re talking about, respectfully, SHUT THE F–K UP!”

Jenner reportedly distanced herself from Woods out of loyalty to her big sister.

Kardashian and Thompson appear to remain on good terms, as the former NBA star recently showered her with “welcome home” gifts following her girls trip to Turks and Caicos.

Larry Kudlow slams New York over ‘phony policy’ that could drive NYSE out of the state

FOX Business host Larry Kudlow slammed New York on Wednesday for proposing a “phony policy” that could cause the New York Stock Exchange to leave for another state with better tax incentives.

During an appearance on “America’s Newsroom”, Kudlow explained that adding transaction or trading taxes on the NYSE deters investment, which will impact hedge funds as well as retail investors, and increase prices for consumers.

Kudlow said the presence of the Stock Exchange within New York creates numerous jobs for apartments, restaurants, and small businesses.

“It’s not just the folks that directly work there,” Kudlow said. “It’s the knock-on effects, it would be a really bad blow to the New York City economy.”

Kudlow added that if the policy were to be implemented, the increased cost on the NYSE would likely cause them to pack up and leave for another city, such as Chicago or Charlotte.

FOX BUSINESS TO DEBUT LARRY KUDLOW’S NEW PROGRAM THIS MONTH

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published yesterday by Stacey Cunningham, the President of the NYSE, she explained that the newly revived stock-transfer tax gaining support in New York may force the business to find a new location.

“On Wednesday, with more than 25 other representatives of New York’s securities industry, I sent a letter to state legislative leaders cautioning against the unintended consequences of imposing a transfer tax on stock sales,” Cunningham wrote. “History’s lesson is clear: If you try to squeeze more revenue from financial firms, the business goes elsewhere.”

Cunningham explained that many employees of Wall Street firms have moved out of the state and relocated to places such as Florida and Texas for more favorable tax policies.

In 1981, the state’s stock transfer tax was wiped out by state leaders, who offered a 100% rebate to investors. Cunningham said that with the crippling effects of COVID-19 on the economy, and the historical consequences of trading taxes on capital markets, relocation may be the NYSE’s only option.

NYC Weather: More snow expected as marathon nor’easter slams New York City and the Tri-State

NEW YORK (WABC) — More snow is expected to fall Tuesday across the Tri-State area after New York City experienced its snowiest day in five years while parts of New Jersey topped 2 feet.

More than a foot of snow fell in Central Park Monday, in a snow storm that made the top 20 for New York City and one of the biggest ever for parts of northern New Jersey.

The relentless storm piled on 3 inches of snow an hour at times while wicked wind gusts caused blowing snow that limited visibility and drifts that buried parked cars to their windows.

The same areas that were hit hard earlier Monday will tack on even more snow — including areas of Northern Jersey, Westchester and Rockland County.

Meteorologist Lee Goldberg says expect waves of light to moderate snow Tuesday. It’ll start out as an early morning mix and then be met by colder air that turns into snow Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

Blowing and drifting will continue as winds stay gusty in the 30-35 mph range. The event could well last 48 hours, making it a rare snowstorm the likes of which we see every five to 10 years, ABC7 meteorologist Jeff Smith said.

Before it’s over, parts of New York City could see 18 inches of snow, with even higher amounts to the north and west as the heaviest snow shifts in that direction.

The winter storm warning continues on Tuesday as the storm slowly pulls away. It’ll still be blustery and chilly. Additional significant accumulation is not likely during the day Tuesday, but don’t be surprised to see a few more inches before the storm finally departs.

The snow itself will likely remain fluffy throughout the event, because it’s so cold, but could become wetter and heavier in coastal airs that see mixing.

Coastal areas will also have to contend with the risk of flooding from the powerhouse storm, with flood warnings in effect on Long Island until 3 a.m. Tuesday. These areas face a risk of moderate coastal flooding, but some areas could see major flooding.

There were also concerns that high tide could bring widespread moderate to isolated major flooding in vulnerable areas, areas like Freeport and Lindenhurst on Long Island and the South Shore back bays. The storm’s slow-moving nature will encompass several high-tide cycles, adding to the concerns.

Live Updates: Gaetz slams Cheney after the high-profile House Republican voted to impeach Trump

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of former President Trump’s top supporters in Congress, held a rally Thursday in Wyoming to blast the state’s sole House member Rep. Liz Cheney.

Gaetz, standing in front of a boisterous crowd gathered at the steps of the Wyoming state capitol, delivered a populist speech as he repeatedly slammed Cheney as a member of the Washington “establishment in both political parties have teamed up to screw our fellow Americans for generations.”

FAST FACTS

Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican in leadership was one of only 10 Republicans who joined all 222 House Democrats in voting to impeach the president for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

Ignoring calls to pull back, Gaetz slams Cheney in her home state

“Defeat Liz Cheney in this upcoming election, and Wyoming will bring Washington to its knees,” he told a group of hundreds of spectators, many of whom did not wear masks. “How can you call yourself a representative when you don’t represent the will of the people? That’s what all the neocons ask about the Arab dictators. I figure maybe we ought to ask the same question of a beltway bureaucrat turned fake cow girl that supported an impeachment that is deeply unpopular in the state of Wyoming.”

Gaetz revealed his intention to campaign against Cheney after she and nine other House Republicans voted to impeach Trump for inciting an insurrection on the Capitol. The measure was the most bipartisan impeachment in U.S. history. But the move against a president who has become a rousing figure for his party sparked vitriol, with calls for Cheney’s ouster from her leadership position among the caucus’ right flank.

But talk of impeachment made only a glancing appearance in Gaetz’s rally Thursday. The congressman mostly opted to portray Cheney as in cahoots with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Democrats like President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to sustain a status quo that works for Washington at the expense of main street America. He accused Cheney of being out of touch with the cowboy values of her home state of Wyoming, calling himself a supporter of “prairie populism.”

“The truth is that the establishment in both political parties have teamed up to screw our fellow Americans for generations,” Gaetz said. “The private insider club of Joe Biden, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Nancy Pelosi and Liz Cheney, they want to return our government to its default setting: enriching them.”

The claim that Cheney and her Democratic counterparts are batting for the same team came in contrast with the congresswoman’s simultaneous introduction Thursday of legislation challenging Biden’s recent executive order on energy production.

Gaetz also attacked Cheney for the role her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, played in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He disparagingly called Liz Cheney a “neocon,” saying she advocated unnecessary wars in the Middle East.

“The neocons say we got to fight them abroad so we don’t have to fight them at home,” Gaetz said. “I was going to say that maybe we ought to fight the neocons at home so we don’t have to fight them in Washington, D.C. But that’s problem, isn’t it, because the neocons are home at Washington, D.C.”

“The real cowboys, I guess, fought the Indians so they could use the land, but what are America’s soldiers even fighting for that Liz Cheney sends around the world?” he added. “Places that most Americans couldn’t even point to on a map.”

Much of the event followed Trump’s rally playbook, with talking points mirroring the former president’s bombastic public comments. Trump frequently expressed his contempt for Cheney while he was president, telling his supporters shortly before they stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6: “We’ve got to get rid of the weak congresspeople, the ones that aren’t any good, the Liz Cheneys of the world.”

At one point, Gaetz even echoed Trump’s disdain for developing countries in a dig at Congress, saying: “A nation that sends its best to fight in the worst nations in the world should not send its worst to be its representatives in the United States Congress.”

Cheney’s team has largely brushed off Gaetz’ attacks, with one member of her office telling CNN this week: “Rep. Gaetz can leave his beauty bag at home. In Wyoming, the men don’t wear make-up.” (The dig is an apparent reference to Gaetz’s use of makeup in an HBO documentary about his time in office).

In a statement to POLITICO, former Wyoming State Rep. Amy Edmonds put it equally bluntly Thursday: “Wyoming doesn’t like it when outsiders come into our state and try to tell us what to do.”

Elizabeth Warren slams SEC over ‘market manipulation’

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren lambasted the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday, blaming the regulator and its failure to act for a chaotic dayslong blitz of market speculation.

“We need an SEC that has clear rules about market manipulation and then has the backbone to get in and enforce those rules,” Warren said. “To have a healthy stock market, you’ve got to have a cop on the beat.”

“That should be the SEC,” she added. “They need to step up and do their job.”

The SEC did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment.

The senator from Massachusetts joined CNBC after wild swings forced popular trading app Robinhood to restrict access to the high-flying stocks at the center of the controversy.

Warren, a longtime critic of Wall Street, spoke to CNBC’s “Closing Bell” as individual traders took to Reddit, Twitter and other social media platforms to protest Robinhood’s move to curb trading. But she made clear that she isn’t a big fan of Robinhood, either.

Robinhood and similar firms, which offer signup incentives while forcing customers to sign arbitration clauses, don’t help create healthy market conditions she said.

Those arbitration clauses, she said, protect Robinhood “if it turns out that [it] really did cheat you. It’ll never be made public, there will be very little that you can do about.”

The public outrage toward Robinhood came after the California-based brokerage announced earlier on Thursday that it would bar customers from buying additional shares of companies including GameStop and move theater operator AMC Entertainment. It still allows customers to sell those stocks from their current portfolio.

Investors on the irreverent WallStreetBets Reddit led an effort to “squeeze” short sellers to cover their bets in such stocks and, as a result, have sparked a frenzy of volatile trading in recent sessions. Many of those retail investors sparked the short squeeze through Robinhood’s popular trading app.

Videogame retailer GameStop is up 250% so far this week, AMC is up 145% and headphone maker Koss, another “squeeze” target, is up a whopping 1,100%.

Robinhood’s decision, which it says was motivated by “extraordinary volatility in the markets,” sparked criticism from both sides of the political aisle.

For her part, Warren said she is skeptical of a narrative that would relate the current trading to a classic “David versus Goliath” story that pits a scrappy group of retail investors against a colossal, hedge-fund empire.

“That’s the problem: How do you know who’s manipulating the stock at this point?” she asked. “Are you entirely sure that there aren’t wealthy people on both sides? That hedge funds haven’t moved in on the side of the people who bid up the price of GameStop?”

Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., a progressive who represents Silicon Valley, called for “more regulation and equality” and questioned the fairness of preventing individuals from buying.

“While retail trading in some cases, like on Robinhood, blocked the purchasing of GameStop, hedge funds were still allowed to trade the stock,” Khanna said.

By buying GameStop or AMC equity or call options, retail investors have forced investors betting against the stock, known as short sellers and oftentimes hedge funds, to cover their positions by buying back shares in an effort prevent further losses.

When this occurs en masse, it can lead to a feedback cycle and a spike in a stock’s price.
