Sheriff’s deputy shot in Vancouver; search for suspects continues

A sheriff’s deputy was shot and seriously injured Friday evening in Vancouver.

Sgt. Brent Waddell, a Clark County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said the deputy was taken to a hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately clear.

The shooting happened at The Pointe Apartments just east of Interstate 205. Several people have been arrested, according to The Columbian.

Waddell declined to detail the circumstances of the shooting during a brief news conference, citing an ongoing investigation.

He said authorities were looking for suspects who “should be considered to be armed and dangerous.”

“I anticipate that there will be a large police presence throughout the night,” Waddell told reporters.

The center of the Northeast 109th Avenue apartment complex was cordoned off with police tape as of 10 p.m. Residents asked to leave their homes sat watching the scene over the yellow tape — some in their pajamas holding blankets.

A SWAT van sat outside what appears to be a four-unit building, and someone inside the van shined a spotlight on a window in the lower right corner of the structure. Heavily armed officers were using the public address system to speak with any occupants.

Earlier in the evening, the Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency and law enforcement officials asked people to stay away from the area of Interstate 205 near Northeast 87th Street.

“If you live in this area PLEASE stay in your home,” authorities said on Facebook.

The deputy who was shot has not been publicly identified.

Cherokee County, Georgia, Sheriff’s spokesperson allegedly posted a photo of a racist, anti-Asian Covid-19 shirt on Facebook

“Covid 19 imported virus from Chy-na,” the racist shirt in the photo posted April 2, 2020, reads.

Although the account that posted it has been deleted, CNN was able to access the photos through a cached copy. The name on the Facebook account matches Jay Baker, and it claims that the individual is an employee of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s office.

The Daily Beast was first to report on the racist shirt photo. They also reported the account posted photos of Baker in uniform, with his name tag visible.

When contacted by CNN about the post, Baker told CNN, “No additional comment.”

“Love my shirt,” the photo caption of the shirt reads. It goes on to encourage others to buy their own shirts saying, “get yours while they last.” CNN reached out to the store selling the shirts, but did not immediately receive a response.

CNN also reached out to Facebook to see whether they deleted the account, or if it was the user that did, but did not receive a response.

This allegation comes as criticism over Baker’s description of spa shooting suspect Robert Aaron Long’s actions on Tuesday continues to grow.

“He was pretty much fed up and had been kind of at the end of his rope,” Baker said in a news conference on Wednesday. “Yesterday was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did.”

Georgia sheriff’s official under fire for remarks on spa shootings, anti-Asian Facebook post

A Georgia sheriff’s spokesperson who came under fire Wednesday for statements he made about the suspect in the Atlanta-area spa shootings, which killed eight people, including six women of Asian descent, previously shared an anti-Asian post on Facebook.

At a news conference Wednesday, Capt. Jay Baker, a spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, said that Robert Aaron Long, who has been charged with eight counts of murder, “was pretty much fed up and kind of at the end of his rope” and that Tuesday “was a really bad day for him, and this is what he did.”

The comments were criticized as inappropriate and insensitive to the victims.

Baker said Long told investigators that the attacks were not racially motivated. “He apparently has an issue, what he considers a sex addiction, and sees these locations as something that allows him to go to these places, and it’s a temptation for him that he wanted to eliminate,” Baker told reporters.

After the remarks, screenshots surfaced from a March 2020 Facebook post by Baker that promoted anti-Asian T-shirts.

“Place your order while they last,” Baker wrote above the photo of two T-shirts that said, “Covid 19 IMPORTED VIRUS FROM CHY-NA.”

Baker did not immediately respond to requests for comment Wednesday, and the Facebook page appears to no longer be available.

Data published Tuesday reported that nearly 3,800 anti-Asian hate incidents were reported in the last year. Women reported hate incidents 2.3 times more than men, according to the research by the reporting forum Stop AAPI Hate.

“Beyond processing evidence from the scenes, investigators are taking a hard look at what motivated the shooter. Our investigation is far from over and we have not ruled anything out,” the Atlanta Police Department said in a statement Wednesday night.

Authorities said that the shootings might not have been racially motivated and that the suspect told investigators that he had a sexual addiction and may have frequented some of the locations in the past.

It was unclear whether any of the businesses had any ties to sex work.

The SUV Tiger Woods crashed had a “black box.” Sheriff’s investigators have executed a search warrant for data from the device.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has executed a search warrant for data from the “black box” from the SUV Tiger Woods was driving when it crashed last week, CBS News has confirmed. The story was first reported by USA Today.

Department spokesperson Deputy James Nagao didn’t say more about the investigation of the rollover crash in which the golf legend suffered serious injuries to his lower leg, ankle and foot that required lengthy emergency surgery.

To get a warrant for the black box, USA Today pointed out, investigators have to determine there is probable cause that a crime was involved, even if it’s just a misdemeanor.

But, the newspaper said, a sheriff’s deputy “downplayed the warrant as a routine part of their probe.  He said he didn’t consider it a criminal investigation, but rather due diligence.”

Along those lines, Sheriff’s Deputy John Schloegl told USA Today, “We’ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that. We determine if there was a crime. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision.”

USA Today also reported the department has decided it won’t try to get a warrant for Woods’ blood as it attempts to learn if he was “under the influence of medication” at the time.

Schloegl said there was “no probable cause” to get such a warrant.

The day after the crash, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told a news conference, “We don’t contemplate any charges whatsoever in this crash.”

While coming around a curve in the road, Woods’ vehicle hit the median and crossed over into oncoming traffic, Villanueva said. The SUV then hit the curb and began to roll over before eventually coming to a stop in an embankment about 30 yards away from the road.

Villanueva said the 45-year-old Woods could still be hit with driving infractions based on what the traffic investigation uncovers, but said a charge of reckless driving, a misdemeanor crime, wasn’t expected.

He’d said earlier that there were no initial signs that Woods was impaired.

Woods’ SUV — a 2021 Genesis GV80 — was the only vehicle involved in the crash. Photos and video from the scene showed extensive damage to the vehicle’s front-end. The golfer’s clubs and other personal items were taken from the scene and a crane later removed the crumpled SUV.

Doctors told CBS News they expect Woods to walk again but health experts said the injuries will certainly affect his game.

Marilyn Manson being investigated for allegations of domestic violence, LA sheriff’s office says

Marilyn Manson is being investigated by Los Angeles authorities for allegations of domestic violence after multiple women have come forward with disturbing claims against the rocker.

“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau is investigating allegation(s) of domestic violence involving Mr. Brian Warner, also known as ‘Marilyn Manson,’ who works in the music industry. The incidents occurred between 2009 and 2011 when Mr. Warner lived in the city of West Hollywood,” a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement shared with Fox News.

The investigation comes weeks following actress Evan Rachel Wood named Manson, 52, as her former abuser on social media. Wood’s claims prompted several other women to come forward with similar allegations.

The ongoing controversy resulted in Manson being dropped from his record label, Loma Vista Recordings. He was also removed from two television roles in Starz’s “American Gods” and AMC’s  “Creepshow.”

MARILYN MANSON SPEAKS OUT FOLLOWING ABUSE ALLEGATIONS: ‘HORRIBLE DISTORTIONS’

An attorney for Manson did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment. Last month, Manson denied Wood’s allegations. The actress, who was previously engaged to Manson in 2010, published her accusations on Instagram, alleging the rocker “brainwashed and manipulated” her during their relationship. Manson “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years,” she wrote.

“I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent,” she continued.

“The Beautiful People” musician released a denial on his own Instagram.

“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality,” he said. “My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners.”

He concluded: “Regardless of how – and why – others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Four other women posted their own allegations shortly after Wood, claiming “sexual assault, psychological abuse, and/or various forms of coercion, violence, and intimidation.

In 2018, Wood testified before a House Judiciary Subcommittee as part of an effort to get the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Bill of Rights passed in all 50 states.

Also in 2018, a police report was filed against Manson for unspecific sex crimes dating back to 2011, The Hollywood Reporter revealed. However, the district attorney declined the case, citing that the statute of limitations had expired and an “absence of corroboration.” Manson’s attorney, Howard E. King, Esq., also denied the claims to the outlet.

Additionally, creative artist Love Bailey claimed Manson once held a gun to her head in an interview with Fox News. Bailey claimed the incident took place while she styled a couture photoshoot at Manson’s home where an unidentified actress was also present.

As Manson allegedly placed a “glock straight to my forehead,” Bailey claims the rocker said, “‘I don’t like f——s’ as he laughs in this really dark, aggressive tone. This wasn’t a joke.”

Bailey alleged that Manson did this after she attempted to assist the actress who was visibly “not coherent.”

MARILYN MANSON’S EX-WIFE DITA VON TEESE SPEAKS OUT AMID ABUSE ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE ROCKER

“She was stumbling over. She hurt her knee on the bedside table and Marilyn laughed at her and just let her crawl on the floor so I ran over to help,” Bailey claimed.

Jenna Jameson, who previously was linked to Manson, called her past relationship with Manson “odd.” She ended their fling after Manson allegedly voiced his desire to burn her body alive.

“We didn’t go out long because I cut it off after he would nonchalantly say he fantasized about burning me alive,” the adult film star-turned-fitness maven, who is 46, told the Daily Mail.

MARILYN MANSON ‘IMMEDIATELY’ DROPPED FROM RECORD LABEL FOLLOWING ABUSE ALLEGATIONS

“Sexually he liked to bite,” she further claimed. She called this act “disconcerting.”

Jameson noted that her experiences with Manson during their relationship were all consensual, the outlet said, but she did express that he is “a lot, to say the least.”

Meanwhile, the artist’s ex-wife Dita Von Teese spoke out about the claims. She stated that her “personal experience” with Manson was different. The former couple dated for six years before they tied the knot in 2005. Von Teese ultimately filed for divorce one year later.

“I have been processing the news that broke Monday regarding Marilyn Manson,” Von Teese began, noting her gratitude for those that have expressed concerns for her “well-being.”

“Please know that details made public do not match my personal experience during our 7 years as a couple,” the performer explained. “Had they, I would not have married him in December 2005.”

She went on to explain that after a year of marriage, she left the relationship “due to infidelity and drug use.”

“Abuse of any kind has no place in any relationship,” the dancer added. “I urge those of you who have incurred abuse to take steps to heal and the strength to fully realize yourself.”

Manson is known as one of rock music’s most eccentric figures because of his unique look and mysterious, spooky persona. He’s been nominated for four Grammy awards in the metal categories.
