Meanwhile, NASA and SpaceX are prepared to launch the Crew-6 mission soon after Soyuz MS-23, incorporating the manifest changes previously mentioned. NASA still plans on having a direct handover between the Crew-5 and Crew-6 missions.

On December 14, 2022, ground teams noticed significant leaking of external coolant from the aft portion of the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft docked to the Rassvet module on the space station. The Soyuz spacecraft carried Prokopyev, Petelin, and Rubio into space after launching from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on September 21.

Spacesuits, eye scans, and cargo transfers were the dominant activities aboard the International Space Station on Wednesday. The seven Expedition 68 crew members also had time for space gardening and scientific hardware maintenance.

NASA astronauts Nicole Mann, Josh Cassada, and Frank Rubio joined each other cleaning cooling loops, checking water, and installing batteries inside a pair of Extravehicular Mobility Units (EMUs), also known as spacesuits, throughout the day. Mann later joined Flight Engineer Koichi Wakata of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (

Cash bail provision in Illinois SAFE-T Act ruled unconstitutional

A Kankakee County judge has found that a key provision of Illinois’ sweeping criminal justice law violates the state constitution, potentially rolling back a controversial measure that would eliminate cash bail as of New Year’s Day, according to a copy of the judge’s ruling.

The judge’s ruling affects only the pretrial release provisions of the law, leaving all other measures of what is known as the SAFE-T Act intact. Judge Thomas Cunnington is expected to officially file his ruling Thursday morning.

Cunnington’s decision stems from lawsuits filed by several dozen state’s attorneys across Illinois. Cunnington agreed with the prosecutors’ argument that the state legislature violated the separation of powers component of the Illinois Constitution when it passed a measure eliminating cash bail and, therefore, interfered with the duties of the judiciary.

He noted in his 36-page opinion that the Illinois Supreme Court has specifically held that judges have “independent, inherent authority to deny or revoke bail to ‘preserve the orderly process of criminal procedure.’”

Cunnington also wrote that the SAFE-T Act “creates new classes of offenses exempt from bail which are not included in the Constitution; it utterly abolishes monetary bail as an option for a judge to utilize to ensure a criminal defendant’s appearance in court; and contradicts the constitutional standard regulating when a defendant may be held without bail.”

“In eliminating monetary bail, the discretion constitutionally vested to the courts to protect victims and their families by this method is gone,” Cunnington wrote. “The constitutional requirement of bail is meant to help ensure victims’ safety, the defendant’s compliance with the terms of release, and the defendant’s appearance in court.”

The state will appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court, according to a statement late Wednesday from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul. His office noted that the ruling only applies to jurisdictions that fall under the 64 lawsuits against Raoul, Gov. J.B. Pritzker and other state officials. The ruling does not apply to Cook County.

But it’s not immediately clear when the state Supreme Court would hear the appeal or whether the pretrial provisions would be put on hold until the high court makes its ruling. The state Supreme Court has been overseeing the implementation of the no-cash bail policy and other pretrial provisions that have been slated to go into effect on Sunday.

The ruling represents a victory for opponents of the 764-page SAFE-T Act, who’ve long argued that the no-cash bail policy would drastically limit the a judge’s ability to detain dangerous criminals ahead of their trial. Supporters of the law argue the end of cash bail is a way to ensure a more equitable court system.

Pritzker’s office late Wednesday called the ruling “a setback for the principles we fought to protect through the passage of the SAFE-T Act.”

“The General Assembly and advocates worked to replace an antiquated criminal justice system with a system rooted in equity and fairness,” he said in a statement. “We cannot and should not defend a system that fails to keep people safe by allowing those who are a threat to their community the ability to simply buy their way out of jail.”

House Republican Leader Jim Durkin, who will be stepping down from his post next month, issued a statement applauding Cunnington’s decision. “Legislation of this magnitude must not only be judged on substance, but also on process,” said Durkin, of Western Springs. “In that regard, the Illinois Democrats failed Illinoisans.”

The lawsuit also argued that the SAFE-T Act violates the so-called “single subject rule” of the constitution, which is meant to ensure bills are focused on a single topic. On that issue, Cunnington sided with the state, finding that the plaintiffs’ did not meet their burden to show the SAFE-T Act’s provisions “lack a ‘natural or logical connection to’ the criminal justice system.”

Opponents of the no-cash bail policy stoked fears that the provision would free violent criminals, even though judges maintain the ability to keep defendants behind bars if the state could show they were a flight risk or a danger to the public.

Earlier this month, Pritzker signed into law several changes to the pretrial provisions ahead of the Jan. 1 effective date.

The changes clarify the standards that judges must follow when considering whether a defendant presents a danger to the public, and adds several offenses for which judges can detain someone if they’re deemed a threat to the community or another person, including aggravated robbery, second-degree murder and home invasion.

Prosecutors had expressed concern that it would be almost impossible to make an argument that a defendant is a flight risk because the SAFE-T Act originally prevented them from using a defendant’s prior history of failing to appear in court. Under the changes, patterns of failing to show up for court — but not a single nonappearance — can be used in making the argument for detention.

Defendants charged with crimes before Jan. 1 would also have the option to remain under the old bail system or be moved to the new system. To ease the burden on the court system, the changes set specific time frames for detention hearings for those shifting to the new system.

The changes also make clear that police can arrest people for misdemeanors such as trespassing that generally require only a ticket, stating that arrests can be made if officers believe “the accused poses a threat to the community or any person” or if “criminal activity persists.” An arrest can also be made if the alleged offender has “obvious medical or mental health issues” that pose a risk to their own safety, according to the changes.

NFL Week 9 injuries: Jonathan Taylor and Chuba Hubbard ruled out; Ryan Tannehill a game-time decision

Week 9 in the NFL got underway on Thursday night with the Eagles remaining perfect on the season, moving to 8-0 for the first time in franchise history with a win against the Texans in Houston. Now, we have the rest of the Week 9 slate on the horizon and there are some interesting matchups to sink our teeth into, including three divisional games and a head-to-head between the previous two Super Bowl champions.

Of course, with a new week of games comes a new collection of injuries that we need to follow. With teams finishing up the week of practice, they’ve released their final injury reports and rolled out game statuses for Week 9. Below, you’ll be able to find each of those reports and a breakdown of some of the biggest injuries.

All NFL odds via Caesars Sportsbook.

Justin Herbert will have to operate without his top two wideouts on Sunday, as Allen and Williams are out due to hamstring and ankle injuries, respectively. Carter is also questionable to play, as he came down with an illness this week. Josh Palmer is definitely someone you should consider starting in fantasy and/or DFS. The Chargers won’t even have their kicker this Sunday, as Hopkins is out due to a hamstring issue. It will be Dicker the Kicker (Cameron Dicker) who handles those duties on Sunday.

The Falcons will not have their star cornerback Terrell for the second straight week, as he is still working through that hamstring injury. Wilkinson is out after not practicing all week, and then Harris is questionable due to an ankle issue. He was limited in Friday’s practice session.

Cracraft was the only Dolphin ruled out on Friday. Jackson was activated off of injured reserve this week, and he was a limited participant in practice on Friday. Still, he’s listed as doubtful to play. All four players that were listed as questionable in Armstead, Conner, Rowe and Phillips were at least limited participants on Friday. Rowe was a full participant, which is a good sign for his availability, but Phillips was added to the report on Friday for the first time with a quad injury. He was limited.

Chicago saw Carter pop up on the injury report on Friday and he did not participate in practice as he is dealing with an illness. Other than him, the entire club is healthy as Eddie Jackson and Teven Jenkins were among the players who practiced fully on Friday and carry no designation. Right tackle Larry Borom (concussion) also practiced fully and is good to go for Sunday. Chicago also is activating left guard Cody Whitehair (MCL) off injured reserve and he could be in line to start.

Hubbard was downgraded to a non-participant in Friday’s practice and has since been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup with the Bengals. That means it’ll be another showcase for D’Onta Foreman, who rushed for 118 yards last week. Jackson and Barno were both listed as questionable but did practice on Friday, which is encouraging for their status.

Cincinnati will be thin at cornerback on Sunday after ruling out Hilton after he was unable to practice this week due to a finger injury. The Bengals will also be without fellow corner Awuzie and have listed Flowers as questionable.

  • Packers: LB De’Vondre Campbell (knee), CB Shemar Jean-Charles (ankle) OUT; OT David Bakhtiari (knee), OG Elgton Jenkins (knee/foot), WR Allen Lazard (shoulder), LB Preston Smith (shoulder/neck), WR Christian Watson (concussion) QUESTIONABLE
  • Lions: CB Chase Lucas (ankle), S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle), T Matt Nelson (calf), CB AJ Parker (hip) OUT; WR Josh Reynolds (back) DOUBTFUL; T Taylor Decker (groin), DE Charles Harris (groin), RB D’Andre Swift (ankle, shoulder), TE Brock Wright (concussion) QUESTIONABLE

The Packers won’t have their leader at linebacker on Sunday, as Campbell suffered a knee injury in the loss to Buffalo on Sunday night and did not practice all week. Aaron Rodgers has some banged-up linemen, as both Bakhtiari and Jenkins are questionable to play. However, both players were limited participants in practice on Friday. The wide receiving corps may again be shorthanded, as Lazard and Watson are both questionable to play. Lazard was limited all week, while Watson was limited on Thursday and Friday.

Swift was able to practice on a limited basis both Thursday and Friday. This comes after Swift was able to make his return to action last week against Miami after sitting out since Week 3 due to injury. He played 55% of the snaps last week.

  • Colts: RB Jonathan Taylor (ankle), CB Tony Brown (hamstring), QB Matt Ryan (right shoulder), LB Grant Stuard (pectoral) OUT; T Dennis Kelly (calf, ankle), LB E.J. Speed (ankle) QUESTIONABLE
  • Patriots: C David Andrews (concussion), WR DeVante Parker (knee), OT Marcus Cannon (concussion) OUT; RB Damien Harris (illness), DT Christian Barmore (knee), S Kyle Dugger (ankle), RB Pierre Strong Jr. (hamstring), LB Josh Uche (hamstring), DE Deatrich Wise Jr. (ankle), CB Jack Jones (illness) QUESTIONABLE

Taylor has officially been ruled out after being unable to practice all week due to an ankle injury. This means that Deon Jackson is in line to start and should see an even heavier workload after Indianapolis traded away Nyheim Hines earlier in the week. The Colts also have Zack Moss, whom they acquired in that deal with Buffalo.

Mac Jones won’t have his center again this week, as Andrews is still dealing with the concussion he suffered vs. Chicago. Jones won’t have one of his top receivers either, as Parker will be inactive with a knee injury. He did not practice all week. There’s a bit of an illness going around, and it’s affected two important players on the Patriots. Both the running back Harris, and the cornerback Jones are questionable to play due to sickness. Harris was limited on Friday, while Jones sat out. There’s some concern on the defensive side of the ball as well, as Barmore, Dugger, Uche and Wise are all questionable to play. However, all four players practiced all week as limited participants.

Buffalo will be without safety Jordan Poyer after he injured his elbow last Sunday against the Packers. Poyer didn’t practice all week, so it’s not particularly surprising to see him ultimately be ruled out. Meanwhile, Von Miller, who missed the first two days of practice with what the team noted as an ankle injury along with rest, was a full participant on Friday and carries no injury designation.

Corey Davis was sidelined all week with a knee injury that he initially suffered in Week 7. He’s been put on the shelf since. New York has its bye in Week 10, so the hope would be that he can return after that. Everyone else on the Jets roster is healthy and ready to play in Week 9.

Tomlinson will miss his first game of the season as the Vikings defensive lineman is dealing with a calf injury. Head coach Kevin O’Connell said that Khyiris Tonga will see an uptick in work with Tomlinson sidelined.

Washington will again be without rookie Jahan Dotson, who has been sidelined since tweaking his hamstring injury before the Commanders matchup against Green Bay in Week 7. On a more positive note, tight end Logan Thomas was a full participant on Friday and carries no designation after being limited both Wednesday and Thursday with a calf injury. Ron Rivera also told reporters that Chase Young — who was designated to return to practice this week — will not play against Minnesota, albeit after putting together a good week of work.

Darren Waller has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury and was a limited participant all week in practice, which has him officially listed as questionable for this matchup in Jacksonville. Head coach Josh McDaniels said Waller is “working extremely hard to try to get back as soon as he can.” Meanwhile, after being limited on Wednesday due to an illness, wideout Davante Adams was a full participant on both Thursday and Friday and carries no designation for this game.

Jacksonville is very healthy coming into this matchup as they listed just Jamal Agnew on the final injury report. He was limited throughout the week due to a knee injury and is officially listed as questionable.

Geno Smith won’t have the speedy Goodwin at his disposal this week, as he was ruled out with a groin injury. The same goes for pass rusher Taylor. Both players did not practice at all this week. Hart was limited all week with a hamstring injury, and then Blount sat out practice on Friday with a quadricep injury. Both players are listed as questionable to play.

Arizona ruled out Garcia, Hudson and Matthew on Friday. All three did not practice all week. Star safety Baker is questionable to play after missing practice on Wednesday and Thursday. However, he did return in a limited capacity Friday. In fact, all five players listed as questionable for the Cardinals practiced as limited participants on Friday.

Allen and Jefferson are questionable to play Sunday, but both players were limited participants in each of the last two practice sessions. The Rams’ injury report brings good news, as star wideout Cooper Kupp does not carry a game designation into the weekend. He’s been dealing with an ankle injury, but finally returned to full participant status on Friday. Running back Cam Akers may play this week after working through his issues with the team.

Gage and Goedeke were ruled out after not practicing all week. As for Brate, he was a limited participant all week, but isn’t healthy enough to go. Winfield is still working back from his concussion. Although he was limited on Thursday and Friday, he will not play. Hicks may return this week despite his foot injury. He was a full participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday, but sat out Friday. He’s questionable to play. As for Davis and Murphy-Bunting, while they are questionable to play, both were full participants in practice on Friday.

Tannehill was able to practice in limited fashion on Friday but head coach Mike Vrabel noted that the quarterback will be a game-time decision. Tannehill suffered an ankle injury in Week 7 and missed Tennessee’s 17-10 win over the Texans. If he cannot go, that would thrust rookie Malik Willis into his second career start. Derrick Henry, who was held out of Thursday’s practice, was back as a full participant on Friday and carries no designation.

Kansas City is remarkably healthy heading into Sunday night’s showdown with Tennessee. Jody Fortson is the lone player listed on the final injury report as every other player was able to practice fully.

Ravens star tight end Mark Andrews missed practice for the second straight day due to knee and shoulder injuries. Running back Gus Edwards also did not practice again due to his hamstring injury. Cornerback Marcus Peters sat out of practice after being a limited participant on Thursday due to quad and knee injuries. Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson was a new addition to the injury report, as he was limited Friday with a groin injury after being a full participant on Thursday.

Running back Mark Ingram (knee) and cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen) did not practice for the second straight day, while Saints wide receiver Jarvis Landry (ankle), tight end Adam Trautman (ankle), offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk (rest/knee), defensive tackle David Onyemata (thigh) and center Erik McCoy (shoulder) were limited participants on Friday.

France midfield star N’Golo Kante will MISS the World Cup after being ruled out for four months

N’Golo Kante is ruled out for FOUR MONTHS after hamstring surgery which will see him miss the World Cup… and puts his Chelsea future under the spotlight

  • France midfielder N’Golo Kante will miss the 2022 World Cup through injury
  • Kante suffered the injury in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham on August, 14
  • The Blues have confirmed that the midfielder has been ruled out for four months

France and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante has been ruled out of the World Cup after undergoing an operation on his hamstring which will see him sidelined for four months.

The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham back on August 14 had slowly been building his way back to full fitness in the time since.

Kante, however, was dealt a huge setback after aggravating the injury during a training session last week and has since had surgery.

It means he will now miss next month’s World Cup and is expected to be out until late February. The news casts a shadow over the midfielder’s future with his contract at Chelsea expiring this summer and no agreement on a new deal close.

N’Golo Kante (pictured) has been ruled out of the World Cup after undergoing an operation

The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham back on August 14

A Chelsea statement said: ‘N’Golo Kante has undergone an operation on his hamstring injury.

‘The midfielder visited a specialist with the club’s medical department to explore the options for his rehabilitation approach and it was mutually agreed for N’Golo to have surgery to repair the damage.

‘Following a successful operation, N’Golo is now expected to be sidelined for four months.’

Chelsea confirmed in a statement that the Frenchman will miss four months after his surgery

The decision to have surgery came after Chelsea boss Graham Potter, who has been unable to call upon Kante since taking charge at Stamford Bridge, admitted last week there were long-term concerns over the midfielder’s fitness record – he has missed 57 games since the 2019 Europa League final.

‘Historically, there are things which have happened which are a concern, and we need to get the bottom of that,’ Potter said.

‘It’s a setback in the last stage of his rehab, so again that’s worrying. But all we can do is get the right diagnosis, the right consultation and then try and help him get back to full fitness and enjoying his football.’

Kante, whose Chelsea contract expires next summer, has 53 caps for France and was part of their World Cup-winning squad in 2018.

Confirmation of Kante’s diagnosis comes two days after Chelsea team-mate and England right-back Reece James was ruled out for up to eight weeks with a knee problem, meaning he too stands to miss the World Cup which kicks off in Qatar on November 20.

Patriots injury report: Nelson Agholor, Jonathan Jones ruled out vs. Browns

The New England Patriots have updated their Week 6 injury report for Sunday’s road game against the Cleveland Browns, and it’s not a positive one.

The team announced Saturday afternoon that wide receiver Nelson Agholor (hamstring) and cornerback Jonathan Jones (ankle) have been downgraded to out.

Both players were listed as questionable on Friday’s injury report.

Patriots Talk: Should the Patriots rush to get Mac Jones back? And a big Browns preview | Listen & Subscribe | Watch on YouTube

Agholor has played in each of the Patriots’ first five games this season, tallying 14 receptions for 225 yards and a touchdown, along with a few fumbles.

Jones also played in the first five games and has emerged as one of the team’s most important defensive players. He has tallied 19 total tackles with two forced fumbles, one interception and three passes defensed. He’s also received very high grades in coverage from Pro Football Focus.

One interesting note from the Patriots’ injury update was the absence of quarterback Mac Jones. He was not downgraded to out and remains questionable. This means there’s still a chance he starts at quarterback after missing the previous two matchups with an ankle injury.

Kickoff for Patriots-Browns is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Miami Dolphins say QB Tua Tagovailoa ruled out for Week 5 game vs. New York Jets

The Miami Dolphins have ruled quarterback Tua Tagovailoa out for Week 5 against the New York Jets, coach Mike McDaniel said Monday.

McDaniel said Tagovailoa’s MRI came back clean but that it’s “too early to give a definite timeline” for when his starting quarterback will be able to return from the concussion he suffered last Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Tagovailoa, who remains in the concussion protocol, was at the Dolphins’ facility on Monday, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

He is expected to be interviewed early this week in the NFL and NFL Players Association’s joint investigation of his quick return to the Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The league and players’ association indicated Saturday that their review is ongoing while adding they agree that “modifications to the concussion protocol are needed to enhance player safety.”

A league official told Schefter that the investigation is expected to last another week or two, and the results will be announced “almost immediately after.”

Tagovailoa initially seemed to exhibit concussion symptoms after the hit to his head late in the first half of Miami’s Week 3 home game against Buffalo, but he was cleared by a team physician and an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant to return in the second half. Tagovailoa and the team later said his legs were wobbly because of a back injury.

After the Thursday hit, in which 6-foot-3, 340-pound Bengals defensive tackle Josh Tupou slammed Tagovailoa backward into the turf, the quarterback’s hands froze up and his fingers flexed awkwardly in front of his face mask for several seconds as he lay on the ground in Cincinnati. He remained on the ground for several minutes until he was taken away on a stretcher and sent to a hospital. He was released from the hospital and flew home with the Dolphins hours later.

The NFLPA fired the unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant on Saturday, saying in a joint statement with the league that they “anticipate changes to the protocol being made in the coming days based on what has been learned thus far in the review process.” Sources told ESPN that the firing came after it was found the consultant made “several mistakes” in his evaluation of Tagovailoa.

Teddy Bridgewater, who replaced Tagovailoa in the Week 4 loss against the Bengals, will get the start on Sunday against the Jets at MetLife Stadium.

ESPN’s Marcel Louis-Jacques contributed to this report.

Packers vs. Patriots score: Live updates, game stats, highlights; Brian Hoyer ruled out with head injury

The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots have one half of football in the books. Heading into this matchup, the Patriots were preparing to play a backup quarterback due to Mac Jones being ruled out with an ankle injury, but they’re not playing the one they expected. Veteran Brian Hoyer, who got the start, suffered a head injury in the first quarter and has been ruled out for the rest of the game. That has now thrust rookie Bailey Zappe in under center for New England.

With Zappe at the helm, the Patriots have taken a surprising lead heading into the halftime locker room. That’s largely due to the defense, especially rookie corner Jack Jones, who recorded a pick-six right before the break. Thus far, Green Bay’s offense has been sluggish with Rodgers attempting just 11 passes.

So, will the Patriots pull off the upset with Zappe or will Green Bay mount the comeback and to 3-1 on the season? We’re about to find out. Below, you’ll find our live blog of Sunday’s matchup where we’re giving you expert analysis and highlights of all the best plays.

NFL Week 4 injuries: Saints’ Alvin Kamara, Jameis Winston, Pats’ Mac Jones, Chargers’ Keenan Allen ruled out

Injuries are at the forefront of the NFL conversation with Week 4 underway, mostly in light of Tua Tagovailoa’s brief hospitalization Thursday night after head and neck trauma forced him out of the Dolphins’ loss. Miami isn’t the only team with uncertainty under center going into the weekend, either. Some clubs are much healthier than others, and quite a few big names remain questionable to suit up on Sunday. Here, we’ve compiled all the final injury reports for Week 4 action.

All NFL odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.

The Saints will be shorthanded in at least some capacity, with the biggest absence coming under center, where Winston is recovering slower than expected from lingering issues. Former Bengals veteran Andy Dalton, last seen with the Cowboys and Bears, will get his first start of 2022. Rookie Chris Olave and reserve Tre’Quan Smith could see even more targets with Thomas out and Landry banged up, while Kamara is expected to suit up but could be on a pitch count alongside Mark Ingram.

The Vikings are far healthier, with star running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) disappearing from the report after making a full return to practice. Starting defenders Eric Kendricks (toe) and Harrison Smith (concussion) are also good to go.

Allen did not practice on Friday and was ruled out for the third straight game. With Jalen Guyton out for the year, expect significantly more reps for DeAndre Carter this week. Justin Herbert (ribs) was a full participant and J.C. Jackson (ankle) will play for the Chargers Sunday.

Dameon Pierce (hip) was a full participant for the Texans Friday. He’ll play Sunday after not being given an injury designation.

Jones was a surprise absence from practice on Thursday after being added to the injury report, but he was limited Friday. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson revealed the he wants to make sure Jones is 100%, which is why the questionable designation was given. Griffin missed last week’s game with a hip injury and was limited in practice all week.

Former 49ers third-rounder Trey Sermon is set to debut as a No. 2/3 RB for the Eagles with Scott absent, behind Miles Sanders and Kenny Gainwell. With Maddox out after not participating in practice all week, expect Zech McPhearson to fill in as the slot cornerback.

Garrett, the Browns’ top edge rusher, is still recovering from injuries suffered in a car crash this week. With Clowney also iffy to play, the Browns’ pass rush will be shorthanded.

If Patterson can’t go for the Falcons, Arthur Smith’s squad is likely to turn to backups Tyler Allgeier and Avery Williams on the ground.

The Seahawks are relatively healthy heading into this one. Rookie Coby Bryant is set to start his third straight game in the slot with Coleman doubtful to play.

Jared Goff will be without some of his best weapons at home, with Jamaal Williams slated to handle RB1 duties and tight end T.J. Hockenson might also be in for additional looks in the passing game. If Reynolds can’t go, who plays wide receiver? Expect a heavy dose of Kalif Raymond and Quintez Cephus as the starting wideouts if the top three can’t go.

Bears at Giants (-3)

  • Bears: RB David Montgomery (ankle/knee), CB Jaylon Johnson (quad), DB Dane Cruikshank (hamstring) OUT; TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles), OLB Matthew Adams (hamstring) DOUBTFUL; WR Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring), DE Robert Quinn (illness), LB Sterling Weatherford (ankle), K Cairo Santos (personal) QUESTIONABLE
  • Giants: WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DE Leonard Williams (knee), CB Nick McCloud (hamstring), CB Cordale Flott (calf) OUT

New York’s receiving corps will once again be without Toney, the 2021 first-rounder, who also sat out Week 3. Williams’ absence up front could also put more pressure on the Giants’ edge rushers, who failed to make much of an impact against the Cowboys last week.

The Bears will also be without a few of their top players; Khalil Herbert is set to start at running back with Montgomery sidelined, and Johnson’s absence leaves Chicago without its No. 1 cover man.

The Commanders are banged up on the offensive line, one that has given up the most sacks in the NFL this season. Leno has been dealing with this shoulder injury and has been limited Friday. If he can’t go, Cornelius Lucas will start at left tackle. Nick Martin will start at center with Schweitzer out. He’s Washington’s third starting center in four games. Right tackle Sam Cosmi (knee) will play.

Michael Gallup (knee) is back for the Cowboys and will will make his season debut after not being given an injury designation. Dak Prescott (ankle) isn’t throwing yet, so he’s out and Cooper Rush will start. Dalton Schultz has an uncertain status whether he’ll play after being limited Friday.

Hooker failed to clear the league’s concussion protocol in time, so he’ll miss Sunday’s game. The Titans are thin in the secondary with all their injuries, leading to McCreary in the slot and Kristian Fulton at outside cornerback. Treylon Burks will suit up at wide receiver after missing practice with an illness earlier in the week.

Up against Derrick Henry and Co., the Colts defense could be without a couple of key starters if Buckner doesn’t suit up; the star interior defender did not practice leading up to the game. Leonard, meanwhile, could make his 2022 debut at linebacker after missing the first three games while recovering from back surgery, though coach Frank Reich has made it clear he won’t be at 100 percent either way.

The biggest news here is the omission of Zach Wilson from the Jets’ report, as the QB is fully cleared from the knee surgery that kept him sidelined for the first three games. He’ll make his 2022 debut, replacing backup Joe Flacco. Quincy Williams didn’t practice all week, so he’s out for Sunday.

The Steelers got good news as Minkah Fitzpatrick cleared concussion protocols, so he’ll play Sunday. Pittsburgh is relatively healthy heading into this one.

After missing Week 3, Davis told reporters he will return to the field despite the questionable tag, serving as Josh Allen’s WR2 opposite Stefon Diggs. That doesn’t mean Buffalo will be unscathed going in, with Morse and Oliver both iffy in the trenches. Less than two weeks from his scary head injury against the Titans, Jackson also said he’s planning to play in the Bills secondary despite entering as a game-time decision.

If Stanley could play for the Ravens Sunday, it would be huge. The injuries at left tackle are mounting and Stanley did practice in full throughout the week. He’ll make a decision based on information he gathers from the coaching and medical staff. Fourth-round rookie Daniel Faalele would start at left tackle if Stanley and Mekari can’t go.

The Cardinals, still without DeAndre Hopkins due to suspension, could be calling upon the bottom of their receiver depth chart in this one. With Green out and both Brown and Moore banged up, reserve Greg Dortch could see another high volume of targets from Kyler Murray, along with tight end Zach Ertz. Running back James Conner (knee) is good to go as well.

Baker Mayfield will have a banged-up supporting cast, at best, with McCaffrey “hopeful” to play despite practicing in limited fashion just once this week. Shenault, who emerged in Week 3, is a game-time decision.

Jones cleared the concussion protocol, so he’s eligible to play Sunday. If Jones sits, Mike Purcell will start at nose tackle. Meinerz  had a setback in practice, which ruled him out for Sunday. The Broncos also play Thursday night, so it may have been wise to give him a few extra days.

No Renfrow again for the Raiders, so Mack Hollins is expected to take over a sthe No. 2 wide receiver for another week. Ya-Sin was limited in practice and his status is expected to be determined after Saturday’s walkthrough. Denzel Perryman was limited with an ankle injury all week, but he’ll play.

Despite Jones’ presence at practice Friday, the second-year QB has been ruled out and veteran backup Brian Hoyer will start. Jones’ high-ankle sprain has been classified as “severe” in multiple reports, and the second-year starter did not show much mobility during his limited return to the field. As for the questionable players, Bill Belichick listed them all as limited in practice all week.

David Bakhtiari (knee) and A.J. Dillon (knee) both were not given an injury designation. They’ll play for the Packers Sunday. Ditto for Elgton Jenkins (knee) and Allen Lazard (ankle).

The Chiefs ruled Butker out again on Saturday. Valdes-Scantling was limited in Friday’s practice, but so was Mecole Hardman who was not given an injury designation. Skyy Moore could be in line for increased snaps this week.

For the Buccaneers, Tom Brady could be down plenty of his top targets again. Head coach Todd Bowles said Godwin will be a game-time decision on Sunday, and he will make sure his receiving corps is healthy and 100% before having them all (Godwin, Evans, and Gage) out there. With Perriman doubtful, the Buccaneers’ top-three receivers could be Evans, Cole Beasley, and Scotty Miller. Jones is expected to be on a pitch count if he’s cleared to play.

  • Rams: C Brian Allen (knee), CB Decobie Durant (hamstring), G David Edwards (illness), CB David Long (groin) OUT
  • 49ers: LB Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), RB Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle), TE Tyler Kroft (knee), DB Tarvarius Moore (hamstring), T Trent Williams (ankle) OUT; WR Danny Gray (hip) DOUBTFUL; DL Arik Armstead (foot), TE Ross Dwelley (rib), DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) QUESTIONABLE

San Francisco’s offensive line takes a huge hit for the next few weeks with Williams on the sideline. It’s already a much thinner unit than it has been over the last several seasons, and now it loses its anchor. The group up front has powered much of San Francisco’s regular-season success against the Rams, so it’ll be interesting to see how Kyle Shanahan and Co. deal without Williams. Armstead and/or Kinlaw not being able to suit up would be impactful as well, given that the Rams’ biggest weakness is often to interior pressure against Matthew Stafford, and they will be without two starters in Allen and Edwards. Los Angeles’ secondary also takes a hit with both long and Durant out, which could affect how Raheem Morris’ defense deals with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

Molly Russell’s cause of death ruled a suicide resulting from social media

A London coroner has ruled a 14-year-old girl’s 2017 death a suicide resulting from harmful social media posts.

The ruling came Friday at the conclusion of an inquest — or a judicial inquiry — into Molly Russell’s death five years ago, according to The Molly Rose Foundation (MRF) established in the 14-year-old’s memory to prevent suicide among people under 25.

Coroner Andrew Walker of the Northern District of Greater London said her death was “an act of self-harm while suffering from depression and the negative effects of online content.”

Walker said the online material Molly viewed on platforms including Instagram and Pinterest “was not safe” and “should not have been available for a child to see.”

The ruling was the first of its kind to place direct blame for a child’s official death on social media rather than simply correlating the two.

“The inquest has demonstrated very clearly the significant dangers social media platforms such as Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest present in the absence of any effective regulation,” MRF said in a statement Friday. “This shows that if government and tech platforms take action on the issues raised in the inquest, it will have a positive effect on the mental well-being of young people, which is the key aim of the Molly Rose Foundation.

Molly Russell’s father Ian Russel said “there is always hope.”
Molly Rose Foundation

“For social media, the Wild West era is over.”

In response to the ruling, Molly’s father, Ian Russell, said Friday “there is always hope” no matter how “dark it seems.”

“[I]f you’re struggling, please speak to someone you trust or one of the many support organizations, rather than engage with online content that may be harmful,” he said, according to MRF.

“Thank you, Molly, for being my daughter. Thank you,” Russell added. “We should not be sitting here. This should not happen because it does not need to happen. We told this story in the hope that change would come about.”

A spokeswoman for Meta, the parent company for Facebook and Instagram, said in a statement following the conclusion that the company is “committed to ensuring that Instagram is a positive experience for everyone, particularly teenagers” and would “carefully consider the coroner’s full report.”

Pinterest has apologized for the content it promoted to Molly via email, including “10 depression pins you might like” and “depression recovery, depressed girl and more pins trending on Pinterest,” according to the BBC.

“At its heart, this is about online safety,” MRF said of the conclusion of the inquest into the 14-year-old’s death.

The ruling garnered national and international attention. Even Prince William issued a statement on the matter.

“No parent should ever have to endure what Ian Russell and his family have been through,” William tweeted from the official Prince and Princess of Wales account. “They have been so incredibly brave. Online safety for our children and young people needs to be a prerequisite, not an afterthought.”

Social media and video-sharing platforms contain content showing suicidal ideation, self-harm material and general reflections on depression, according to the U.K.’s National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC). A teenager may view that kind of content on top of more mainstream material featuring videos and images of their peers, as well as influencers and models, which may prompt young users to make flawed comparisons between themselves and the material they view online.

“The ruling should send shockwaves through Silicon Valley – tech companies must expect to be held to account when they put the safety of children second to commercial decisions. The magnitude of this moment for children everywhere cannot be understated,” NSPCC Executive Director Sir Peter Wanless said in a statement. “Molly’s family will forever pay the price of Meta and Pinterest’s abject failure to protect her from content no child should see, but the Online Safety Bill is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reverse this imbalance between families and big tech.”

Myles Garrett ruled out for Week 4 after scary car crash, says he’s ‘grateful’ to be alive

The Cleveland Browns officially ruled out defensive end Myles Garrett for Week 4 against the Atlanta Falcons, the team announced Saturday morning. He was originally listed as questionable four days after he was involved in a one-car accident on Monday afternoon. Garrett suffered a shoulder sprain, biceps strains as well as minor lacerations, bumps and bruises from the crash.

Garrett spoke for the first time since the accident on Friday, where he described the incident as “a hell of an event” and that he was “grateful to be here.”

Police issued Garrett a citation for speeding and failing to control his vehicle after reports say Garrett drove his Porsche off the west side of an Ohio roadway Monday afternoon, hit a ditch and a fire hydrant and flipped the car before coming to a stop.

He was reportedly driving 65 miles-per-hour in a 45-mph zone. Garrett said he swerved to avoid an animal and then “overcorrected” on a wet road that caused the car to flip. He and a female passenger — who reportedly sustained non-life-threatening injuries — were taken to a local hospital before they were both released Monday night.

The Browns confirmed most of this news on Tuesday.

This was not the first time Garrett was cited for speeding. Garrett has been issued five speeding tickets over the past four years, according to cleveland.com, and eight since 2017. This includes a citation for driving 120 mph in a 70-mph zone and 99 mph in a 70-mph zone over a two-day period in 2021.

Garrett did say Friday that he should slow down more when driving.

“I gotta be smart overall with driving,” Garrett added. “Don’t take it for granted. Be grateful that I’m able to still be here.”

Garrett has tallied three sacks, four tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits and a forced fumble in three games this season for the Browns. He was drafted No. 1 overall by Cleveland in 2017 out of Texas A&M.
