Tennessee trolls Kentucky with locker room celebration video

After heading into the half with a 42-38 lead, the Kentucky Wildcats continued to fight through and extend their lead to double digits at the 12 minute mark in the second half. Keion Brooks Jr. drilled a jumper inside the paint, followed by a steal by Devin Askew and dunk in transition by Brandon Boston Jr. to push UK’s lead to 58-48 at the second media timeout.

At the time, it appeared Kentucky had secured the momentum and was ready to extend the lead in similar fashion to that of UK’s blowout wins at Florida and LSU.

Following the breakthrough moment of the game – or what seemed to be at the time, anyway – the official Kentucky men’s basketball Twitter account posted a video of Boston’s dunk in transition with the caption “We’re having fun.”

From that point on, Tennessee managed to close out the game on a 34-13 run to pull off the 82-71 victory, giving the program its sixth win in nine tries against Kentucky. The comeback victory pushed Rick Barnes’ record vs. John Calipari and the Wildcats to 8-5 since taking over as UT’s head coach, making him the only active head coach to lead his team to at least three victories at Rupp Arena.

Needless to say, the Volunteers celebrated the win accordingly, and they didn’t leave Lexington without a quick troll move directed Kentucky’s way.

“We’re having fun,” the official Tennessee basketball account posted on Twitter, accompanied by a video of the team’s locker room celebration.

They certainly earned it, too.

Google Meet’s ‘green room’ previews your audio and video quality

Google has launched a new feature for Meet that can make sure your video and audio are working properly before entering a meeting. While you can already check your environment for anything you don’t want the other party to see in a call’s “Ready to join?” video preview window, Meet’s new “green room” feature can do more than that. Now, when you join a meeting, you can click the “Check your audio and video” button in the preview window to confirm that your peripheral devices and network are working properly before going in.

The tech giant says it can help you catch issues, such as poor sound quality and loud background noise, muted microphones and missing speaker or headphone connection. If the feature detects a problem, Meet will show you a warning with troubleshooting tips for common issues, such as how to grant your browser access to your mic or camera. You’ll also be able to choose the mic, speaker and camera you want to use — in case you have external devices plugged in — inside the green room. The feature has now started rolling out to Google Workspace and G Suite users and will be available to everyone within the next 15 days.

Xiaomi’s remote wireless charging powers up your phone from across the room

Inductive wireless charging that works via pads and coils is still not available everywhere or on every device, but XDA points out that Xiaomi is teasing a leap to the next step: remote wireless charging. Touchless “true” wireless charging could energize devices from several meters away, and Xiaomi is touting its approach, dubbed Mi Air Charge Technology.

We’ve seen remote wireless charging equipment before, including the Energous WattUp approach we gave a Best of CES award in 2015. However they haven’t come to market yet, and while Xiaomi isn’t talking about any specifics as far as release date or compatible hardware, showing off a demo and talking about the 17 patents it has is more than we’ve seen from other phone manufacturers.

Mi Air Charge Technology is a 5W charging system — think of the tiny chargers Apple used to include with iPhones, or slower Wireless Qi charging — that uses 144 antennas in the base station sending millimeter-wide waves to your phone, which receives them on a 14-antenna array of its own. Xiaomi is claiming its tech is “not science fiction,” that will eventually charge multiple devices at once, pass through physical objects, and send power to all kinds of small electronics around your room, from smartwatches to speakers.
