PS5 restock update today: Check inventory on Twitter, Best Buy, Target and more

Finding PS5 restock remains an arduous task. Although there were a healthy amount of PS5 restock events last week, both the standard PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition sell out in minutes whenever PS5 inventory is replenished.

So we’re here to help you find where to buy a PS5, including how to track PS5 restocks on Twitter. Make sure to bookmark this page and check back often for the latest updates on all things PS5 as we track PS5 restocks in real time.

Where to buy PS5: Check PS5 restock right now

As of March 6 at 7 p.m. ET, there is no PS5 restock available at any major retailer. Best Buy had stock on Friday, but has sold out.

Fortunately, a regular PS5 stock tipster claims that millions more consoles will arrive each month through April. It’s our hope that these new PS5 restocks will help gamers avoid overpriced PS5 consoles from third parties. In the meantime, you can use the links below to check where to buy the PS5.

PS5 restocks: Track on Twitter

One of the best ways to find out when PS5 restock hits online retailers is by following the Sony Twitter account. We also recommend following Twitter accounts such as @PS5StockAlerts, @GYXdeals, @PS5Drop and @Wario64, which are often first to have the latest updates on availability.

Keep in mind that PS5 restock availability can also be regional and limited to select stores. Either way, make sure to keep this page bookmarked and to check the retailer listings regularly.

How to buy PS5: Essential tips

Get prepared: Make sure you have all the right payment card details and two-factor authentication available and to hand when you find a PS5 ready to buy. Units can go so fast that if you’re fiddling around trying to find your credit card you could miss your chance to secure a PS5 order.

Select a retailer: As you can see from our list above, there are plenty of retailers to choose from, which can actually make the whole process of buying a PS5 a bit complicated. We suggest you select a couple of major retailers like Walmart and Amazon, and keep an eye on their PS5 landing pages.

Sign up to stock alerts: Plenty of retailers offer to alert you to when they have PS5 stock in. We suggest you sign up to those services for the retailers that are offering them.

Find the right product page: It might sound obvious, but make sure you’re on the actual buying page for the PS5 or the PS5 Digital Edition. If you’re on a landing page, you might end up missing the moment new stock arrives.

Sign in to retailers: Make sure you sign in to any retailers you might already have an account with. This will make things a lot faster when buying a PS5 if you spot one on sale. And speed is of the essence today.

Keep refreshing and don’t give up: It can be a little demoralizing trying to find PS5 restock when everywhere looks sold out. But regularly refresh product pages to see what pops up; you might get lucky. And also keep checking back here for any PS5 stock updates.

You can also make it a habit of checking Slickdeals, the online collection of deals that run the gamut from household appliances to gaming consoles like the PS5. The website has a few specific forum threads for everything PS5 that users continue to update. If you follow the thread, head to the last page and keep refreshing to keep up with all the latest news.

It’s also a good idea to check a few of the subscription-based wholesaler retailers like Sam’s Club, BJ’s Wholesale Club, and Costco. You do need a paid membership to shop at these retailers, but that means reduced competition to snag a unit there. You may need to pay extra for a bundle, but it’s worth checking out these locations either way. Currently, there are no online listings for these retailers to check, but it may be worth heading to each brick-and-mortar store to try your luck at this point.

It’s been a fairly difficult process during this console generation to lock in any sort of next-gen purchase. But as we near the holidays, it’s highly likely there will be additional PS5s available for purchase at some point as Sony catches up with those looking to buy PS5s.

PS5 restocks: Accounts to follow

Where to buy PS5: Avoid the PS5 scalpers

Unfortunately, one of the main reasons for the shortage of PS5 consoles is due to scalpers. These opportunistic people have been using bots to scan retailers for PS5 stock when it becomes available and buy as many of the consoles as they can in one go.

Once they have the highly-desirable console, they will then sell them for extortionate prices, often for thousands of dollars. Business Insider reported one reseller managed to get hold of 200 PS5 consoles and managed to sell them for more than $40,000.

While this isn’t illegal, it’s not exactly the most morally sound thing to do. But at least it’s not as bad as some people who’ve been pretending to sell PS5 consoles on eBay by simply posting photos of the console and scamming people to bid for them when there was no PS5 on offer.

It might seem absurd to buy a PS5 for over $1,000, especially as its launch game lineup isn’t particularly profound. But with the coronavirus pandemic seeing more people staying at home, some PlayStation fans are clearly desperate to get their hands on a new console to keep them entertained.

We advise you avoid buying from such resellers, fake or otherwise. At $499 the PS5 is still quite an expensive console and it currently doesn’t have a huge library of games. So if you can wait until later this year, you’re likely to have a lot more PS5 games to choose from and Sony should have more consoles available.

Americans ready to restock wardrobe, but shipping snafus may plague retailers

An employee at Anthropologie at Fashion Island greets customers at the store in Newport Beach, CA on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.

Some of us are saying “so long” to sweat pants.

In the final week of February, seven of the top 10 selling items on Anthropologie’s website were dresses, the company, a unit of Urban Outfitters, said this week during an earnings conference call. Until that point, it said, it was lucky to see just one or two dresses break into the top-10 list.

Urban Outfitters CEO Richard Hayne called the change a striking and very positive one.

“Up until recently, the fashion predominantly has been … casual and home-comfortable,” Hayne said. “We’re beginning to see — what I’m calling ‘go-out fashion’ start to take hold. The apparel business will be in for a change in terms of what categories we sell.”

Apparel sales dropped 19% last year, according to market researcher The NPD Group, as Americans stayed home and focused their spending on groceries and other household essentials.

When shoppers bought clothing, comfort was the theme: Sweatpants sales surged 17% year over year, and sleepwear was up 6%, NPD said. Within fashion footwear, which dropped 27% for the year, sales of slippers increased 21%, as consumers shuffled from cooking in the kitchen, to holding video conference calls from the bedroom, to streaming the latest series from the living-room sofa.

Retailers like Urban, Gap, Abercrombie & Fitch, Macy’s and Nordstrom had to quickly pivot their merchandise when lifestyles abruptly shifted last spring. They pulled blazers, skirts and slim-fitting pants from mannequins, to be replaced by stretchy joggers and roomy pajamas.

But the Covid vaccine rollout has quickly ramped up in recent weeks, with the U.S. now averaging 2 million vaccine doses daily. At the same time, the number of reported cases is on the decline. Encouraged by the positive trends, a wave of states has eased Covid restrictions — opening up the possibility of people venturing out to restaurants or a night at the movies. That means many Americans are going to be digging into their closets looking for something new to wear.

It’s time for retailers to pivot — again. That won’t come easily, though. Businesses continue to face congested U.S. ports and container shortages, backlogging merchandise, which will make stocking shelves with fresh outfits all the more complicated. Management teams said shipment delays range anywhere from three to four weeks, and are coupled with higher transportation costs.

“Historic volumes, social distancing measures for workers, plus driver shortages to truck goods away is causing congestion and significant delays in processing times,” Wells Fargo analyst Ike Boruchow said.

‘Sick of sameness’

The department store chain Macy’s has said it has a plan in place to quickly restock work and formal wear, as its customers begin to resume more normal activities. Many analysts are betting on a brisk turnaround in shopping behavior.

“People have got money in their pockets, they’re sick of the sameness, and you’re going to see an explosion of feel-good purchasing,” said Stacey Widlitz, president of SW Retail Advisors. “The weather’s turning, and people are feeling positive about going out again — or even sitting in the park in a dress.”

“The nature of human beings is that they want to feel good,” she added. “They want to feel fresh — especially for the younger generations. It’s your price of entry for socializing again.”

Retailers are already seizing on this messaging. Kohl’s website proclaims “The Great Refresh,” while Banana Republic touts a “Spring Awakening.” The men’s suit maker Suit Supply’s new ad campaign alluding to a “New Normal” went viral on social media this week.

Others are still hedging their bets, though, anticipating continued momentum with comfortable, lounge wear in 2021. Some consumers will likely desire sticking to a more casual wardrobe — one that they’ve grown accustomed to over the past 12 months. Businesses, in turn, might choose to relax office dress codes as their workforces return.

Nordstrom is still marketing “Work-from-Anywhere Style” on its website’s homepage. Rent the Runway keeps a section of its mobile app for outfits for “Entertaining at Home.”

The tween-and-teen apparel retailer American Eagle earlier this week said it expects its current-quarter sales will be the strongest in three years, hinging on the growth of its Aerie brand, which sells work-from-home options like yoga pants, sports bras, pajamas and lingerie.

Kontoor Brands CEO Scott Baxter, meantime, told CNBC that jeans are staging a comeback, as Americans look for a way to dress up, only slightly more so than they’ve been doing at home. Kontoor’s brands include the denim-focused labels Wrangler and Lee.

“Denim is casual, it’s easy … you can dress it up, you can dress it down,” Baxter said in an interview earlier in the week. “As people go back to the office, people are thinking about how they’re going to dress, and denim seems to be the choice.”

Logistics headaches linger

But retailers don’t simply have to worry about gauging demand for apparel bouncing back. They’ve had logistics headaches for much of the pandemic. And those don’t appear to be abating, making planning for the spring, summer and back-to-school seasons even more difficult.

Nordstrom noted shipping delays held up some of its holiday merchandise from getting to shelves and stockrooms on time, hurting its fourth-quarter results. It’s still working through selling that inventory, the company told analysts earlier this week, and hopes to be back to normal inventory levels by the second quarter.

Gap also noted Thursday, when it reported mixed fourth-quarter results, that port congestion is expected to continue through the first half of the year. That’ll result in elevated inventory levels into the second quarter, Gap said.

For Urban, the bigger issue at play today is getting access to containers to ship goods, Chief Operating Officer Frank Conforti explained earlier in the week.

“While, yes, the ports are absolutely experiencing congestion, especially on the West Coast … and we’re seeing anywhere from two to seven days of delays in the ports, the bigger challenge is actually on the inbound vessels, having enough containers over in Asia to bring product in,” Conforti said.

The limited availability of truck drivers to haul retailers’ goods cross-country remains another issue, Telsey Advisory Group CEO and Chief Research Officer Dana Telsey said in an interview Thursday with CNBC’s Sara Eisen.

Companies likely won’t sort out their inventories to match up with shopper demand until closer to the back-to-school season, she said. But, like Widlitz, Telsey doesn’t think that’s going to shop shoppers from soon heading back to stores for a new look.

“We haven’t had apparel spending in over a year,” Telsey said. “I think [people] want to refresh their wardrobes.”

Finding Xbox Series X restock is no easy task. Low inventory and lightning-fast bots have made finding where to buy the Xbox Series X a near impossible task. Xbox Series S restock is slightly easier to find, but even that console can sell out in front of your eyes if you wait too long.

Xbox Series X restocks: Track on Twitter

While they won’t always give you a heads up, it’s also a good rule of thumb to follow retailers on Twitter, such as Best Buy and GameStop. Any edge you can get is crucial when trying to score an Xbox Series X restock.

There’s a good reason Microsoft’s new consoles are flying off shelves. In our Xbox Series X review, we gave the new system major props for its blistering performance, zippy load times and comprehensive backwards compatibility with every generation of Xbox. And as we noted in our Xbox Series S review, the cheaper next-gen Xbox still delivers many of the same great features for those with 1080p TVs.

With that in mind, see the latest Xbox Series X stock updates and tips for getting your new Microsoft console below.

Where to buy Xbox Series X buying tips and resources

Apart from refreshing retailer websites, there are other online channels where you can keep check to see when a unit might become available.

Twitter

On Twitter, we suggest following @Wario64. The handle is known for updating users on the latest deals and restocks faster than anyone else on the platform.

Shopping forums

Slickdeals, the online deal repository, has a forum thread dedicated to ordering an Xbox Series X through Microsoft. The thread is constantly being updated, so jump to the last page and click refresh for the latest intel on when units will become available.

PopFindr

PopFindr is a site that checks local retail inventories based on your zip code. For example, you can check local Target stores in your area to see if any Xbox Series X’s are available. Do note, that just because it shows in stock, it might be out of stock by the time you arrive at the store.

It’s also not a bad idea to make an account on Slickdeals and set a deal alert for “Xbox Series X.” You’ll get an email alert when a new thread is made about replenished stock. But we’ve found that sometimes Slickdeals doesn’t email users fast enough. So it might be better to type in “Xbox Series X” in the search bar and sort by new. Be willing to check in multiple times a day.

CheapAssGamer is a long-running video game deals website that too has a forum thread dedicated to the Xbox Series X. As of writing, the thread is over 63 pages long, and users are discussing where to find units.

Facebook and Reddit

Facebook too can be a good source of information. There are multiple Xbox Series X fan groups that keep users up to date on where the latest restocks are happening. Feel free to join a few of these groups.

And be sure to subscribe to the Xbox Series X subreddit. Sure, most of the page is dedicated to discussions and memes, but if a user notices a restock, they’ll let the community know. For example, one user found Xbox Series X units in stock at their local Walmart, with others too discussing similar finds. Again, it seems that some Walmart locations may be holding on to units to sell on Cyber Monday.

Wholesale retailers

Another set of retailers to keep an eye on are subscription-based wholesalers like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale Club. Because it requires a paid account to get access to these wholesalers, there are often fewer people jumping over each other to find a unit. If you don’t have a subscription to any of these retailers, ask a few friends or family members.

Unfortunately, wholesalers tend to bundle new consoles with either extra games or accessories. So you will likely have to pay more than the standard $500.

Check at specific hours

Generally, retailers like to make stock available at certain times. The time when new Xbox Series X stock is most likely to be made available is at midnight ET, on certain days. Check all the retailers and you just might get lucky.

Other retailers favor times like 7 a.m. ET, for when customers wake up, while others will aim at midday to give everyone the best chance of finding a new Xbox Series X console.

If the units are out of stock online, it might be worth going to a physical location. You must bring your membership card, or go with someone who has a membership. And be sure to wear a face mask (over your nose) or retail associates will ask you to leave. If none are available in store, then at least you can walk out with a $5 rotisserie chicken.

Where to buy Xbox Series X: Avoid the scalpers

One of the reasons for Xbox Series X and Series S stock shortages is due to scalpers snapping up large amounts of next-gen consoles in one big sweep and then selling them for extortionate prices; we’re taking thousands of dollars for a $499 games console.

VGC reported that a now infamous PS5 scalper group going by the name of CrepChiefNotify managed to snap up 1,000 Xbox Series X consoles as soon as they became available at U.K. retailer Very. But in a twist of fate, Very cancelled 1,000 Xbox Series X pre-orders, somewhat torpedoing the efforts of the scalpers.

As frustrating as it can be to find an Xbox Series X or Series S, we suggest you avoid buying a console from these scalpers. Paying massively over the odds for a console that doesn’t have a huge range of new Xbox Series X games isn’t a shrewd move in our opinion. If you can hold out, Microsoft should have more Xbox Series X units to ship, as well as the promise of more exclusive games for the console.

Xbox Series X restock: how to track Xbox stock on Twitter – and actually get it

Sunday is expected to be slow for our Xbox restock Twitter tracker, which is working overtime to find the Microsoft console in stock, but follow it anyway to prepare for what may be a busy Monday. The tracker updates in real-time as soon as Walmart, Target, Best Buy and other US stores update with new Xbox Series X stock for $499, and the same goes for the Xbox Series S starting at $399.

Miss it? Follow our Xbox Series X restock Twitter track for all new Xbox restock alerts. It’s the fastest method for us to do live updates of Microsoft console stock.

Finding Xbox Series X restock has been unpredictable since November 2020, with the console often out of stock within minutes of new inventory launching at all stores.

Twitter is where we’ve begun tracking Xbox Series X restock – along with just-as-hard-to-buy PS5 restock. Stores like GameStop don’t give people much notice, and the console drops are gone within minutes if not seconds these days.

Xbox Series X restock stores in the US

Xbox Series S restock stores in the US

The Xbox Series X restock at GameStop on Wednesday was no different. The page launched, a few people were able to put it in their cart, while others had to refresh the page when the red button grayed out with the message “GameStop is adding new inventory.” It’s a case of try, try again.

We saw Microsoft’s own official Xbox store Series X and Series S supply on Monday and Tuesday, however it sold out in about three minutes. That tells you the kind of competition there is for these next-gen consoles.

The Series X is supremely powerful and capable of 4K gaming, while the Series X is nearly as strong and comes in at $200 cheaper. That’s a bargain compared to what resellers are charging.

We’re tracking the Xbox Series X and S restocks on Twitter simply because inventory goes so quickly. Both Target and Amazon are heavily rumored to be launching new stock of consoles this week, but so far that hasn’t come to fruition.

We track more than 12 American stores: Amazon, Walmart, Target and Best Buy among them. So even if you don’t get get this Xbox restock at GameStop today, there’s always another store in the US that will have it in stock eventually

Check at significant times

New PS5 restock: Sony Direct has your last chance to buy PS5 this week

The PS5 restock in the US is now in progress on the Sony Direct store, and the queue is choosing people at random to buy the much-sought-after video game console.

This is almost certainly the last PS5 restock of the week for Sony Direct, according to the official Sony store’s track Tuesday for Friday record. We haven’t seen PS5 on sale during the weekends from this source.

Both the Disc and Digital PS5 versions are for sale at the MSRP of $499 and $399 respectively at the above links. We’d wager that this is your last opportunity to buy PS5 for this week, with the possibility that the PS5 will be on sale again Tuesday.

As we always warn, getting into the Sony Direct queue doesn’t mean you’ll find the console in stock. Most people will see “more than an hour wait” from the estimated wait time. That’s what the message reads for us. For others, they’ll see a queue of just a few minutes.

Here are more rules, according to Sony:

  • First, you will need an active PSN account in order to complete the purchase.
  • Second, you will have 10 minutes to buy the PS5.
  • Third, “PS5 Consoles are now available but are not guaranteed even if you are in the queue,” according to Sony.a

Trust us, it’s serious about buying the PS5 within ten minutes. Make sure you have all of your information ready to go to buy PS5.

PS5 restock: Sony Direct back in stock for second day in a row, get it fast

Update: the PS5 restock queue is now open at Sony Direct, and the we’re waiting for the console along with a lot of other desperate PlayStation fans. We’ll let you know if we find it in stock, or if it sells out before we get to the front of the line. Keep trying.

If you’re hunting for where to buy PS5, Sony Direct has PS5 consoles in stock and the queue will open momentarily, but get in line quickly when it goes live – they usually sell out in under thirty minutes.

Just make sure you’re queueing for the correct edition:

Sony Direct PS5 restocks are only live for a short period but there’s good news: after going quiet for most of January, they appear to be opening up the purchase queues during the week like they had in prior months, so check back in routinely to see if they’re back in stock.

That said, other retailers have gotten PS5 restock much more frequently in January, so we’d advise prospective buyers to check the links below for Amazon, GameStop, Target, and Walmart – they’ve been more reliable. Amazon and GameStop in particular could both get PS5 restock overnight, which is why we’d advise potential buyers to check our links to those retailers below.

If you didn’t make it through today at Sony Direct, check Target tomorrow morning – they had restock earlier today, and could again.

How to prepare for a Sony Direct PS5 stock drop

If, at a later date, you are make it into the queue, make sure that you keep your browser sound on to hear the chime if you get to the front of the queue – it appears places are randomly assigned and sadly there’s no way to know if you’re going to be able to grab stock – as Sony says, just getting in the queue is no guarantee of snagging a console.

Also remember to make sure you’ve got a PSN account with Sony, and fill it with payment and shipping details to make your life a little bit easier and make it through. You’ll only have 10 minutes when the chime goes, so act quickly.

If you miss out on Sony’s PS5 stock or simply want to know where to buy PS5 quickly, you’ll find all the links to buy PS5 at various retailers at the top of this page, including the PS5 Digital Edition. Keep checking these links as you never know when more consoles will hit the shelves… although we’re keeping our ear to the ground to find out when the next drops are coming.

PS5 and Xbox Series X restock happening today — how to get yours

Still looking for a PS5 or Xbox Series X? Well, GameStop is about to bring the heat with a bunch of bundles dropping today.

The retailer announced it will be selling “A limited number of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S,” bundles today (Thursday, Jan. 21). It’s even going to stock Nintendo Switch bundles, if you’re trying to track down the dockable console with some (hopefully) neat pack-ins. As of 1:15 pm (ET), there is no PS5 stock available.

GameStop has confirmed it will have PS5 bundles available later today. It’s still unclear how much stock will be available or at what time. View Deal

But, as always, expect these units to sell out, and go fast at that. It’s bad enough that GameStop’s tweet refers to this incoming stock as “a limited number,” but it’s also advising that you turn on notifications for its social media account to do so.

This suggestion from GameStop is both smart shopping and smart marketing. While shoppers may get faster notice about availability, this opts users into GameStop sending them push notifications about anything that it wants.

Looking at GameStop’s recent tweets suggests that opting into its notifications would leave you getting notifications for its live streams of games, promotions about games going on sale and videos from people who were able to successfully buy a console from the retailer.

And you might not want to get spam like that on your home screen, but at this rate you may have no choice. And it’s not like the other accounts might be more helpful. Even those Twitter accounts focused on PS5 stock notifications may send you alerts for stock that doesn’t apply to you, be it in another country or a retailer that requires a membership, such as Sam’s Club.

That’s it. Now, once you’ve got your fill of notifications from GameStop, go back and tap the Notifications icon and select None to disable the alerts.
