Exact TIME of Marvel & Star Wars’ Major Panels In 2022

Marvel and Star Wars have each already delivered major announcements once this year at San Diego Comic-Con and Star Wars Celebration, respectively, but both will be back once again this weekend for the bi-annual D23 Expo.

Due to the pandemic, Disney has unfortunately been unable to hold its grand-scale convention since 2019. However, this year has finally brought back in-person events to their former glory, allowing them to be enjoyed properly once again.

Although the biggest announcements from Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy will come on Saturday, September 10, during the Hall D23 Presentation, Disney has a whole weekend of fun lined up.

What to Expect from Marvel and Star Wars at D23

Unfortunately, not all the fun of D23 will be available to those watching from around the world, as Disney has already published a limited schedule of what will be streamed online. That will include much of what was discussed above, but not the blockbuster Hall D23 panel that will undoubtedly make the biggest splash.

D23 will include a panel on Friday focused on Marvel, Star Wars, and Disney’s upcoming video games which will be streamed online. The event is expected to include reveals from LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and more upcoming releases.

When it comes to the big Hall D23 presentation, there’s no telling what Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios have to offer, especially having already had some massive reveals earlier in the year. The MCU is expected to highlight the likes of Werewolf by Night, Deadpool 3, and more, while Star Wars goes big on the future of the MandoVerse and its other Disney+ content.

Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy will make their big D23 presentations on Saturday, September 10.

Marvel, Tomb Raider Games Drop as Low as $0.70 During Huge Sale

There’s a surprise sale going on this weekend that extends to the PlayStation, Xbox, and PC (via Steam) platforms, and if you’ve got a Tomb Raider game or a Marvel title that you’ve been on the fence about picking up, you may be able to acquire that and a few more at some exceptionally low prices. The sale encompasses both of those franchises as well as numerous others like the Deus Ex games and includes titles like Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider as well as the games’ more expensive versions.

Square Enix, for those who might’ve missed the news, recently sold off its Western Studios including Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal. Embracer Group acquired them as well as the games they were working on including the live-service Marvel’s Avengers game that’s still getting new content. Now that the acquisition is finalized, Square Enix seems to be looking to offload its remaining stock of games like those in the Marvel and Tomb Raider series.

As such, those games are really cheap right now. Like, less than $1 cheap. Classic Tomb Raider games like Tomb Raider: Underworld and Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness are going for under a dollar right now which admittedly not be what people are after, but you can even get the Tomb Raider Collection on Steam at the price of $20.20 whereas the normal price for that is $201.99.

The same kinds of deals can be found when looking at the Marvel games, too. Unfortunately for those who don’t already have the game, it looks like all of the copies of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy have been scooped up already seeing how no matter what platform or edition of the game you pick, the only option is to be put on a waiting list. Marvel’s Avengers is still in stock depending on what platform and edition you’re looking for, and if you’re a collector who might not care as much for the game but like the collectibles that come with the Earth’s Mightiest Edition, that one’s on sale, too. It normally costs $149.99 and is on sale for $15.

As others have found out, some of these purchases are for physical editions of the games which means that Square Enix might get you on the shipping costs even if the initial prices are exceptionally low. That’s most likely why pretty much all of the Steam purchases have been wiped out by now, but those looking for a deal can still browse through the games through the links above to see what’s left.

Evo 2022 announcements recap, from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to a brand new Fatal Fury game and so much more

Living in the land of crossplay and rollback

Evo 2022 was a spectacular return to form after its years away as a one-of-a-kind event packed with top competitors from all over the world, crazy tournaments and just a lot of people who love fighting games.

Even the developers seem to have stepped up their announcement game this year, and there’s plenty of big reveals you could have missed if you looked away from the action for just a few minutes.

That’s why we’d like to provide you all a somewhat quick roundup and review of all the big fighting game announcements from this past weekend.

Just about every company who had a title on Evo’s mainstage had something important to show, and even some of those who didn’t still brought excitement to the event.

So let’s start at the beginning and work our way forward.

Nobody has been able to officially purchase Marvel vs. Capcom 2 since the remaster was pulled from digital stores in 2013, but that’s about to change.

Arcade1UP announced they’ll be releasing a special MvC2 cabinet later this year.

Moreover, the home arcade system will come packing 8 games in total between MvC2, Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men: Children of the ATOM, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems.

Pre-orders will go live next month for $599 USD, and more information can be found here.

Atlus listened to fan feedback and committed to adding rollback netcode to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax earlier this year.

After a while of silence, they dropped the reveal that Ultimax’s rollback update is now available for PlayStation and PC players.

The indie fighting game Umbral Core was first unveiled earlier this summer, and the developers released a teaser trailer for the upcoming title to show off the early gameplay and talk about some details.

This dark and atmospheric fighter will release an open alpha later this year as well as a Kickstarter to help them reach their full vision.

During their Evo panel, Arc System Works revealed the content roadmap for Guilty Gear Strive’s second season.

A crossplay beta test between PlayStation and PC players is planned to release sometime this fall followed by the full update shortly after.

Guilty Gear has one more DLC character releasing this year during the fall too while the remaining fighters will drop sometime in 2023.

A new balance patch is also scheduled to launch sometime during the winter season.

You can find more information here.

One of the more unexpected announcements this weekend came at SNK’s Evo panel where the developers stated rollback netcode is on the way for most versions of 2019’s Samurai Shodown — a feature the community has been requesting since the original release.

That rollback update will come sometime around the spring of 2023.

SNK had another big quality of life improvement reveal for The King of Fighters 15 too with the title set to receive cross-platform play between Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2023 too.

More information can be found here.

The developers of Skullgirls announced Marie will be the final DLC character coming to 2nd Encore’s Season Pass following Black Dahlia.

Marie was originally included as the game’s boss character and holder of the Skull Heart, but she’ll finally become a playable roster member sometime in 2023.

You can find more information here.

In the middle of their $100,000 Evo side tournament, Warner Bros. revealed a look at the Season 1 roadmap of content for MultiVersus.

As was previously announced, Rick and Morty will be coming to the game as 2 separate characters, and the official launch of Season 1 is also set to bring with it MultiVersus’ ranked online mode and a classic arcade mode.

Players will also be able to obtain additional cosmetic items like Lebron James as Robin and Valkyrie Bugs Bunny costumes.

No release date has been set for the start of MVS Season 1, but you can find more information here.

Following their Evo finals, Bandai Namco finally announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ will indeed be receiving a rollback netcode update, but there’s a few caveats.

Firstly, many players will have to upgrade their current copies of DBFZ because the rollback patch is only coming to the newly announced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game as well as PC.

On top of that, content support has official ended for DBFZ after 4 years, and the developers aren’t planning any more balance patches either.

You can find more information here.

Not content with just their earlier SamSho and crossplay announcements, SNK also brought with them a look at Team Samurai for KOF15 consisting of Samurai Shodown characters Haohmaru, Nakoruru and Darli Dagger.

The first 2 characters of Season 2 were also revealed to be Shingo Yabuki plus Kim Kaphwan, and they’ll be releasing early in 2023.

You can find the trailer and more information here.

For one last surprise, SNK dropped the bomb that a brand new Fatal Fury / Garou title has officially been green-lit and presumably started production.

There hasn’t been a new entry in the iconic franchise since Garou: Mark of the Wolves released all the way back in 2000.

They only showed a single image of the project, which seems to imply that Rock Howard will carry over his protagonist status from the last Garou.

You can find more information here.

Bandai Namco teased the very first glimpse of their next generation Tekken project after Tekken 7’s Evo finals.

It only included a brief shot of a highly detailed Kazuya Mishima, and we don’t yet know if the game will indeed be Tekken 8 or something else.

Tekken 7 is also set to receive some additional developer support as well with a new battle update dropping on August 17 to rebalance the cast and add some more features to the gameplay.

More information can be found here.

Although you may have seen them elsewhere, Capcom officially announced that newcomer Kimberly and Street Fighter 4 favorite Juri Han are playable characters in Street Fighter 6.

Both world warriors received slick new trailers that provided a taste of what their gameplay will provide in Street Fighter 6.

Tasty Steve and James Chen were also revealed to be among the in-game commentators included in Street Fighter 6.

You can watch the trailers and find more information here.

Guilty Gear Strive officially closed out Evo this year with the largest in-game tournament the series has ever seen, and Arc System Works had one last surprise for everyone.

The developers dropped Bridget’s gameplay trailer as the first DLC character of Strive Season 2 with yo-yos and teddy bears aplenty.

Oh, and you can play as the classic Guilty Gear fighter now.

You can find Bridget’s trailer and more information here.

And that wraps up our recap of every big fighting game announcement made at Evo 2022.

Let us know in the comments which of the big reveals were your favorite / most unexpected as well as your top moments from the tournament action.

DC Movies Will Follow the Marvel Playbook Going Forward – The Hollywood Reporter

Just two days after Warner Bros. Discovery made the stunning move to cancel the HBO Max film Batgirl, an unapologetic CEO David Zaslav sought to reassure Wall Street there is a cohesive plan for the future of DC.

“You look at Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman — these are brands that are known everywhere in the world,” Zaslav said during an earnings call Thursday. “We have done a reset. We’ve restructured the business where we are going to focus, where there is going to be a team with a 10-year plan focusing just on DC. We believe we can build a much more sustainable business.”

DC has long wished to emulate the success of the Disney-owned Marvel Studios, which Kevin Feige has built into the highest-grossing film franchise in history. Zaslav recently brought Feige’s former boss, retired Disney film chief Alan Horn, on as an adviser. During the earnings call, Zaslav suggested DC would try to emulate the Marvel playbook.

“It’s very similar to the structure Alan Horn, [former Disney CEO] Bob Iger and Kevin Feige put together very effectively at Disney. We think we can build a much stronger, sustainable growth business out of DC,” said Zaslav. “As part of that, we are going to focus on quality. We are not going to release any film before it’s ready. … DC is something we can make better.”

DC has proceeded in stops and starts following the conclusion of Christopher Nolan’s defining Dark Knight trilogy concluded a decade ago. The studio initially tapped Zack Snyder to oversee its planned universe, which the filmmaker launched in 2013 with Man of Steel. However, Snyder lost the confidence of studio executives after the divisive 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and some of the films in an ambitious 10-project slate announced in 2014 never came to fruition, including Justice League 2. Executive Walter Hamada took the reins of DC Films in 2018 and has been plotting out a number of films — including several for HBO Max to meet the mandate of then-WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar. Now those plans are changing once again.

Zaslav touted a number of DC films coming up, including Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and addressed rumors that some of those films could shift dates without confirming or denying any specifics.

“We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better,” Zaslav said in terms of marketing and distributing the upcoming films, which also include The Flash, starring controversial actor Ezra Miller.

Miller was accused of choking a fan in Iceland in April 2020, and Business Insider published a report Thursday featuring a lengthy interview with the parents of an 18-year-old who say the actor had groomed their child since they were 12. Warners’ plans for The Flash, which has a June 2023 release date, have been closely watched.

The executive also revealed that while he is focused on theatrical releases, “a number of movies will be released with shorter windows … and with different marketing campaigns. But we’ll always be agile, and the focus will be on theatrical.”

Before the pandemic, theater owners could demand an exclusive theatrical window of 74 days to 90 days. Now, a film opening to $50 million or less domestically can be made available in the home as soon as two to three weeks after its theatrical release (Universal was the first major Hollywood studio to strike such terms.).

Zaslav’s comments come at a fraught time for DC. On Tuesday, Warners announced the news that it was shelving its $90 million Batgirl movie, which was deep into postproduction ahead of a planned HBO Max release. Multiple sources noted that Warner Media Discovery was opting to use losses from the film as a tax write-down rather than release it. The move has sparked jitters that other films could follow, with Blue Beetle filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto liking tweets asking Warners to protect his DC film, which was initially developed for HBO Max before being upgraded to theatrical.

Zaslav said that expensive films for streaming did not make economic sense.

“The objective is to grow the DC brand. To grow the DC characters. But also, our job is to protect the DC brand, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

12 Upcoming Movies & Shows Marvel Kept Hidden From Comic-Con 2022 Event

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige gifted fans with a slate of Phase 5 projects including six blockbusters films and six Disney+ live-action series at this year’s Hall H panel on Saturday evening. With a rejuvenated roster of veterans and rookies, the MCU is primed for The Multiverse Saga to tell a story that could rival the magnitude of The Infinity Saga.

And while it may seem like the day after Christmas for most MCU fans, there is still plenty more yet to be announced about the MCU’s future. September’s D23 Expo is Disney’s own announcement showcase where many expect even more major announcements about future Marvel Studios projects. With less than 50 days until D23, what projects have Feige and Co. left unannounced in The Multiverse Saga?

Deadpool 3

Marvel

It takes a special IP to survive a reboot. Fans have seen legacy Marvel movie characters like Spider-Man and Professor X carry enough weight in their respected projects to transfer over to the MCU and bring their actors with them. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool is like peanut butter and jelly. Something that Marvel Studios could not pass up.

Reynolds is so vital to the success of this character he was even able to bring his director in his last two projects, Shawn Levy, into the MCU to direct the third Deadpool movie. While the timeline of this project is less certain than some of the specials, it is a matter of when and not if. With so much happening in the MCU with the Multiverse and crossovers with Fox and Sony Marvel projects, Deadpool will surely play a key role in exploration as one of the only characters capable of looking in the camera and telling the audience what is what.

Status: Sure Thing

Armor Wars

Marvel

One of the only remaining projects announced before Phase 4 that has yet to be given a release date is Don Cheadle’s first solo project.

Armor Wars is expected to do for James Rhodes what WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier did for Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Sam Wilson, and Bucky Barnes, respectively. If there is one thing Disney+ has proven it can do for the MCU, it is developing characters.

Armor Wars is intended to be War Machine’s time to shine, but it is also rumored to help foster Riri Williams as Ironheart. With the delays of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is Riri Williams’ MCU Debut, the buck kept getting passed, and Armour Wars is feeling the effects. If Riri is a player in this series, it cannot be released until after Ironheart, which is set for Fall of 2023.

It is interesting that Cheadle appears in 2023’s Secret Invasion. A role that will surely develop his character in a big way given the context of the story and Rhodey’s high-profile status in the American government. Still, another top contender to get a major update at D23.

Status: Sure Thing

Shang-Chi 2

Marvel

A shining star of Phase 4 that is sure to receive a sequel is Simi Liu and Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. With a post-credits scene actively setting up Shang-Chi as a future member of the Avengers, Shang-Chi 2 is sure to play a huge role in the overall narrative of The Multiverse Saga. Marvel Studios has a history of sequels like Captain America: The Winter Soldier to take advantage of a character-focused origin story and use that character to expand the universe.

Simu Liu will be back as Shang-Chi at some point. Maybe even in a surprise appearance before his sequel. But the sequel is coming, it is just unclear exactly when.

Status: Sure Thing

Spider-Man 4

Marvel

There was a time when Spider-Man 3’s future was unclear. The best caveat fans had was that the story had not been finished. Well, after Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jon Watts’ Homecoming trilogy is one of the best the superhero genre has ever seen. And despite Peter Parker’s amazing place left for future stories, it could end there, and fans would understand.

Nonetheless, like death and taxes, they will keep making Spider-Man movies, and Sony is showing no signs of letting go of the movie rights. This means that Marvel Studios will surely partner up to bring Tom Holland back for another go as a new and improved Peter Parker.

Rarely does an actor get a chance to play a character for a fifth time with a virtually clean slate of story ahead of him. The “reset” vibes of No Way Home have allowed the future of Spider-Man to be taken in any direction. What is that? No one knows. But it is going to make a lot of money.

Status: Your Move, Sony

Wakanda Series

Marvel

With Wakanda Forever releasing a teaser trailer that has taken the internet by storm, the Black Panther franchise has moved into a position to take over the MCU. The loss of lead man Chadwick Boseman is a tragic and devastating loss for Marvel Studios, fans, and the world. Thankfully, when Ryan Coogler directed the first Black Panther in 2018, he put special care into so many things beyond just his leading man.

The country of Wakanda, the supporting characters, and the culture surrounding Black Panther are one of the best examples of world-building the MCU has to offer. With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever set to reset the franchise’s course, expect the anticipated Wakanda series to be announced shortly after.

Status: Waiting on Wakanda Forever

Okoye

Marvel

General of the Dora Milaje, Avenger… solo project candidate. Danai Gurira is reportedly in talks to star in an “origin spinoff series” on Disney+ as Okoye. A scene stealer in her MCU debut Black Panther, Okoye became a key player in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. After a Dore Milaje appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, the want for more Dora content is there.

To see the origin of one of the MCU’s best-supporting characters is the kind of thing that will generate instant buzz from fans. Much like the Wakanda series, this one is on hold until Okoye’s next appearance.

Status: Waiting on Wakanda Forever

The Ten Rings

Marvel

The Ten Rings was the first project on the list that was unofficially teased in a post-credits sceneLooking to capitalize on the success of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel Studios is looking at Daniel Destin Cretton to bring more of that juice into the MCU.

Along with the Shang-Chi sequel, Cretton is expected to bring back Meng’er Zhang’s Xialing and the Ten Rings to Disney+. It is unclear when this show will take place in the MCU but much like the Wakanda-focused Disney+ content, it feels like this series is waiting for updates from its original franchise.

Status: Waiting on Shang-Chi 2

The Mutants

Marvel

Kevin Feige could have walked off stage after announcing the majority of the Phase 4 slate at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 and fans would have rewarded him with thunderous applause. But of course, the showman he is, he left the audience with a slew of “oh, by the way”s. The least of which is the announcement of mutants coming to the MCU.

After the shocking finale of Ms. Marvel revealing Kamala Khan to be a mutant, the fuse has been lit. Now is just a waiting game of when the mutant era of the MCU goes boom.

With the development of The Multiverse Saga spanning three phases before 2026, it is possible that Marvel Studios practices patience and dedicates an entire saga to mutants. If no mutant projects are announced by the end of 2023, expect San Diego Comic-Con 2025 to announce The Mutant Saga.

Status: It Might Be A Minute

Nova

Marvel

Secret Wars is coming. And with that storyline, the MCU has an inherent crossover vibe. There is a balance to be made between introducing new characters to add depth to the roster and developing characters on the roster to have an even bigger impact by the end of Phase 6.

Introducing a character like Nova would greatly expand the cosmic branch of the MCU. It comes down to the decision to bring someone like this in late in the game only to play a huge role in the final quarter. After the response to Carol Danvers’ role in Endgame after Captain Marvel, Marvel Studios might decide to hold their Nova card just one more Saga.

Status: D23 or Phase 7

Wonder Man

Marvel

Another project that has been hot in the rumor mill for Marvel Studios is Wonder Man. A classic less than third-tier Marvel character that is begging for Marvel Studios to make him a household name. Wonder Man has comic book ties with the majority of 2000s Avengers stories. The kind of piece that can be adapted to fit any shape that is needed to best fill out the MCU puzzle. But with so many characters in need of development and more prominent names yet to make a debut, Wonder Man would be a surprise addition to the Multiverse Saga.

Status: Rumors for now

World War Hulk

Marvel

The Incredible Hulk vertical of Marvel Studios will finally be reprised in the upcoming She-Hulk series. While Jen Walters is best known for her work with street-level and Avengers-level characters in the comics, more Hulk means more opportunities. And one of the biggest opportunities still on the table for the MCU is World War Hulk.

With Planet Hulk being adapted in Thor: Ragnarok, there is still plenty of meat left on the bone for Mark Ruffalo to bring one of the biggest comic book stories of all time to life. The Hulk has always been on our side with only glimpses of what could happen when the table turns. WWH would bring that reality to light and, in the Multiverse Saga, it has never been more possible.

Status: We can only dream

Scarlett Johannsson-Produced MCU Project

Marvel

Last on the list is a mystery project teased by Kevin Feige that is set to bring one of the foundational members of the MCU back in a producer role. Scarlett Johannsson and Disney have settled their differences, and there is word of an MCU project that ScarJo will have major input on. The best bet will be Thunderbolts if it ends up starring her Black Widow costar, Florence Pugh.

Status: Up In The Air

BONUS PROJECTS

Werewolf By Night

Marvel

Arguably the biggest shock from the Marvel Studios SDCC panel was the lack of an official announcement for the rumored Werewolf By Night. Halloween Special is expected to release this fall; this project is set to be MCU veteran composer Michael Giacchino’s directorial debut. Filming began in March, and Giacchino told the Phase Zero Podcast in June that they hope to have something to share “very soon.”

So while it’s a surprise that Werewolf By Night did not get announced along with the rest of the Phase 5 slate, it is the biggest “sure thing” on this list. With the Supernatural Branch of the MCU officially starting up with Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night is expected to be the next spooky chapter. With Fall right around the corner, the expectation is for this special to be officially announced at D23. ‘

Status: Sure Thing

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Marvel

Another special that is expected in 2022 was surprisingly left out of San Diego Comic-Con. The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special was announced in December of 2020 and was filmed during the production of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Director James Gunn has called this project some of his best work, with rumors of a new fan-favorite MCU character being introduced.

Along with Werewolf By Night, it is possible that the classification of these specials kept them out of the SDCC Phase 5 slate. Marvel Studios had previously included animated projects like What If…? on their SDCC lineups, but this year Marvel Studios animation received a separate panel. Perhaps these projects fall under a different branch of the MCU, and all specials will be announced at D23. That is where the smart money is.

Status: Sure Thing

The Multiverse Saga has been happening for a year and a half, and already it feels like the end is near. So many possibilities to bring even more content into an already packed Phase 5 slate. With at least 8 open spots in Phase 6 ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars. Which of these projects will make their way into this story, and which ones will be kept until the next era of the MCU? Only the man in the hat knows, and all eyes are on D23 for answers.

First Footage of Emilia Clarke’s Marvel Character Released (Trailer Description)

During Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, the studio revealed its Phase 5 slate and a tease of Phase 6, all while announcing a number of new films and Disney+ series. Still, that’s not to say that projects already in the works didn’t receive attention as well. In addition to new trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and She-Hulk, Marvel also revealed footage of Secret Invasion coming to Disney+ in Spring 2023.

Expected to be a paranoia-driven spy thriller, Secret Invasion stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, along with MCU newcomers and established stars in Olivia Coleman and Emilia Clarke.

While on-set photos of Clarke found their way online during filming, little has been revealed about her Secret Invasion character. But now, the MCU faithful have finally seen official footage of the Game of Thrones actress in her debut MCU role during San Diego Comic-Con.

Secret Invasion Trailer Shows Emilia Clarke In Action

Marvel

During Marvel Studios’ powerhouse presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, the studio released the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Even though the trailer’s release was exclusive to Hall H, those in the audience have shared what the footage holds, including first looks at Emilia Clarke’s character.

According to Collider, the trailer kicks off with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury returning to Earth from a spaceship. Following a conversation with Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, the footage shows a few of the show’s additional characters in action, including Clarke shooting a gun.

ComicBook claimed that the trailer included a look at Emilia Clarke following a shot of a motorcade flipping and before Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos inquires what the Skrulls want from Fury.

Given this footage and a video that leaked from the set showing Clarke’s character struggling for her life, it looks like the actress will be involved in quite a bit of action in Secret Invasion

In addition to Clarke’s presence, the trailer also showed Fury admitting that this different kind of threat is why he returned to Earth, along with footage of Kingsley Ben-Adir, Don Cheadle’s War Machine, Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross, and Olivia Coleman warning Fury that he’s “in no shape for this.”

Before the trailer was revealed, sources say that Cobie Smulders warned audiences that Secret Invasion is a “darker” MCU story and one where no one will ever know who’s a Skrull and who’s human. Just who Clarke is playing and what side she’s on remains to be seen. And due to paranoia surrounding the Skrulls, it probably won’t be fully known until the series’ conclusion.

Emilia Clarke’s Secretive Secret Invasion Role

Now that Marvel Studios has confirmed that Phase 4 of the MCU ends with November’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Secret Invasion‘s Spring of 2023 release currently has the show standing as the MCU’s second Phase 5 project and its first Disney+ series.

But even though audiences have a better idea of when the series is coming and where it belongs, Secret Invasion is still very much shrouded in, well, secrecy. Despite multiple leaked photos of Clarke on-set and filming the series, Marvel Studios has yet to confirm just who her character is.

However, that hasn’t stopped the fan base from speculating. Rumors range from Clarke playing Marvel character Daisy Johnson/Quake to the mutant SWORD Commander, Abigail Brand.

But since Secret Invasion is less than a year away, Marvel fans are sure to learn more about Clarke’s role in the show in the coming months and possibly at Marvel’s D23 presentation on Saturday, September 10.

Secret Invasion is set to debut on Disney+ in Spring 2023.

Marvel Reveals MCU Phase 5 Schedule, Gives First Phase 6 Details

The next two years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were fully revealed at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, with a few tantalizing hints about what lies beyond. Phase 5 of the MCU kicks off with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on Feb. 17, 2023. It’ll be followed by Disney Plus series Secret Invasion in spring 2023, before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits theaters on May 5, 2023.

Echo and season 2 of Loki land on Disney Plus in summer 2023, with The Marvels coming to theaters on July 28, 2023.

Ironheart comes to the streaming service in fall 2023, Blade lands in theaters Nov. 3, 2023, while Agatha: Coven of Chaos will arrive on Disney Plus in winter 2023 or 2024.

Captain America: New World Order comes to theaters in May 3, 2024, Daredevil: Born Again will hit Disney Plus in spring 2024 and Thunderbolts will round out Phase 5 when it lands in theaters on July 26, 2024.

Marvel also gave us the first details about Phase 6 movies, which will include Fantastic Four on Nov. 8, 2024, Avengers: Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars on Nov. 7, 2025. It was revealed that Phases 4, 5, and 6 will be collectively known as The Multiverse Saga, mirroring Phases 1, 2 and 3’s Infinity Saga. It seems like Kang the Conqueror will be the main villain of this era.

Fans are particularly excited about Charlie Cox returning as Daredevil, given the popularity of the Netflix show and his alter-ego’s brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Born Again will see him face off against Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Wilson Fisk (who showed up in Hawkeye) again.

Daredevil also shows up — in costume —  in the new trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which kicks off on Disney Plus on Aug. 17. That and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which also got a Comic-Con trailer ahead of its Nov. 11 theatrical release, will represent the end of Phase 4.

On Friday, Marvel revealed a bunch of animated series coming to Disney Plus over the next few years. What If…? season 2, Marvel Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year are apparently part of the MCU canon, while X-Men ’97 and  I Am Groot are seemingly set it separate continuities.

Marvel Studios Phase 5: Kevin Feige Lifts Curtain at Comic-Con

Three years after unveiling Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige returned to Hall H to do the same for Phase 5, which included announcements for the new “Daredevil” Disney+ series and the “Thunderbolts” feature film. Feige also gave a brief glimpse into what is coming in Phase 6, which is scheduled to conclude in Nov. 2025 with “Avengers: Secret Wars” — which Feige says caps off the Multiverse Saga of the MCU.

Here’s everything we learned about the rest of Phase 4, Phase 5, and what’s to come in Phase 6.

PHASE 4

Adam B. Vary / Variety

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”
Premiere date: Aug. 17

What we learned: A legal comedy with a touch of “Fleabag,” this Disney+ series starring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters (i.e. Bruce Banner’s cousin) boasts a cavalcade of superheroes who need a good lawyer — who is also giant and green. The panel also included a trailer, which (unlike a lot of the footage unveiled in Hall H) was also released publicly.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”
Release date: Nov. 11

What we learned: Namor (Tenoch Huerta) is coming to the MCU, as the kingdom of Wakanda reels after the death of T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman). Joining the cast are Dominique Thorne (as Riri Williams), Michaela Coel (Aneka), Mabel Cadena (Namora) and Alex Livanalli (Attuma). This film will conclude Phase 4, though it’s unclear exactly how. Watch the trailer here.

PHASE 5

Michael Buckner / Variety

“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”
Release date: Feb. 17, 2023

What we learned: Phase 5 launches with the introduction of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who meets Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) in the Quantum Realm after Scott is mysteriously sucked there along with his daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer). In footage screened just in Hall H, Bill Murray has a cameo as an old acquaintance of Janet’s from within the Quantum Realm, but given Kang’s titular role in one of two “Avengers” titles announced on Saturday (more below), all eyes are on how Majors will reshape the narrative of the MCU. Plus, Director Peyton Reed confirmed to the crowd yet another great Marvel villain would be making a cameo in this film, “you might have seen a shot of MODOK,” Reed said.

“Secret Invasion”
Premiere date: Spring 2023

What we learned: Co-star Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill) was on hand to preview this dark and gritty political thriller, which stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, alongside Ben Mendelsohn (the Skrull Talos), Don Cheadle (James Rhodes), and Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross). Joining them are Kingsley Ben-Adir (seen multiplying into several identical forms in a confrontation with Fury), Olivia Colman (seen telling Fury he’s past his prime) and Emilia Clarke (seen brandishing a gun). The overall vibe is one of paranoia and foreboding, contributing to a larger anti-heroic thread that seems to run through Phase 5.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
Release date: May 5, 2023

What we learned: An emotional James Gunn and his equally emotional cast — including Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog — debuted the first look at the final Guardians film, which hinted at revealing how Rocket became a sentient, walking raccoon. Chukwudi Iwuji (formerly of DC’s “Peacemaker”) plays the High Evolutionary, and introduced himself to Hall H in character (implying that he played a role in Rocket’s transformation).

Marvel Studios

“Echo”
Premiere date: Summer 2023

What we learned: Nothing more than the release period for the series that spins off “Hawkeye” antagonist Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) into her own spin-off. Sydney Freeland (“Reservation Dogs,” “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”) and Catriona McKenzie (“The Walking Dead,” “Shining Vale”) are directing.

Marvel Studios

“Loki” Season 2
Premiere date: Summer 2023

What we learned: The Disney+ series that introduced the multiverse to the MCU is currently filming and will debut next summer. There was nary a mention of this critically adored series, but pictures from set have been fluttering across the internet as of late.

Marvel Studios

“Blade”
Release date: Nov. 3, 2023

What we learned: Feige made no casting announcements, but he confirmed that the reboot of the Marvel comics vampire franchise with Mahershala Ali — first announced in 2019 in Hall H — will be Marvel’s final feature for 2023, and starts shooting in October. Bassam Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) is directing.

Marvel Studios

“Ironheart”
Premiere date: Fall 2023

What we learned: After her introduction in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) will star in her own Disney+ series. Chinaka Hodge (“Amazing Stories,” “Snowpiercer”) is head writer, and Sam Bailey (“Dear White People”) and Angela Barnes (“Blindspotting”) are directing.

Marvel Studios

“Agatha: Coven of Chaos”
Premiere date: Winter 2023/2024

What we learned: Originally titled “Agatha: House of Harkness,” this “WandaVision” spinoff centered on Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha Harkness will be Marvel’s final Disney+ series in 2023. “WandaVision” head writer Jac Schaeffer will write and executive produce the show.

Marvel Studios

“Daredevil: Born Again”
Premiere date: Spring 2024

What we learned: Original launched as part of the Netflix slate of Marvel TV series (which were nominally part of the MCU), Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock is being (fully) brought into the Marvel Studios fold with a Disney+ series that is getting an unprecedented 18-episode order for its first season. Cox’s Murdock first reappeared in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and his nemesis Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) popped up as the big bad on 2021’s “Hawkeye.” Both characters are set to show up on “Echo,” and it appears that Daredevil will also appear on “She-Hulk,” before returning for the main event in this series.

On Netflix, the “Daredevil” series was far more violent and bloody than anything that’s been produced by Marvel Studios directly, further suggesting that the MCU’s Phase 5 will wade deeper into the moral murk than it ever has before.

Marvel Studios

“Captain America: New World Order”
Release date: May 3, 2024

What we learned: We’ve known since the conclusion of the Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) would return in his own feature film as Captain America. In Hall H, Feige announced the eyebrow-raising title — more anxiety and dread! — and a release date that gives the film the prime position for Marvel’s 2024 film slate.

Marvel Studios

“Thunderbolts”
Release date: July 25, 2024

What we learned: Phase 5 ends with Marvel’s answer to DC’s Suicide Squad: A team up film about a bunch of MCU anti-heroes. Feige said he would talking about casting another day, but there are plenty of candidates already, including Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl), Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Abomination (Tim Roth), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko).

PHASE 6

Michael Buckner / Variety

“Fantastic 4”
Release date: Nov. 8, 2024

What we learned: While “Spider-Man: No Way Home” filmmaker Jon Watts recently stepped away from directing “Fantastic 4,” Marvel Studios is full steam ahead with bringing the original Stan Lee/Jack Kirby Marvel comic book series into the MCU. The Fantastic Four and lead villain Victor Von Doom play critical roles in the comic book inspiration for the final movie in the Multiverse Saga, so launching Phase 4 with them makes sense.

What is surprising is that the entire Phase 6 run lasts less than a year.

Marvel Studios

“Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”
Release date: May 2, 2025

What we learned: Similar to how “Avengers: Infinity War” set up “Avengers: Endgame,” Feige made clear that Phase 6 of the MCU — and the Multiverse Saga — will conclude with two “Avengers” movies. Given the title, it’s safe to presume that Majors’ Kang the Conqueror is the Thanos (or maybe a Thanos) of the Multiverse Saga.

Marvel Studios

“Avengers: Secret Wars”
Release date: Nov. 7, 2025

What we learned: After many fans — and some entertainment publications — wondered aloud this year about where, exactly, the MCU was heading, Feige took the time in Hall H to finally say: Here.

“Secret Wars” points to a Marvel comics crossover miniseries from 2015 that involves an incursion between the main Marvel universe (Earth-616) and the Ultimate Marvel universe (Earth-1610) leading to the destruction of both. In its wake, many variants of Marvel characters find themselves living in a post-apocalyptic planet called Battleworld.

It is unclear, and will be for some time, how much Marvel Studios will draw from the 2015 “Secret Wars” — or the mid-1980s “Secret Wars” miniseries that inspired it. But perhaps the most important detail is what happened after the “Secret Wars”: Marvel Studios effectively rebooted, launching “all-new, all-different” versions of many of its most beloved titles, as some (but not all) characters from the 616 an 1610 universes found themselves living within a somewhat rebooted timeline.

Could the same be in store for the MCU? Only time(lines) will tell.

Marvel outlines Phase 6 with Fantastic Four and two new Avengers movies

Marvel is looking far into its future at San Diego Comic-Con. The company confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (which just got its first trailer) will end phase four of its cinematic universe on November 11th, and outlined what to expect for phase five. But Marvel also took things one step farther and detailed phase six of the MCU with a trio of movie announcements.

Things will kick off with Fantastic Four on November 28th, 2024; followed by Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2nd, 2025; before wrapping up with Avengers: Secret Wars on November 7th, 2025. Marvel is calling this period of the MCU — phases four through six — the “Multiverse saga,” which will come to a close with Secret Wars.

The announcements were made during a busy panel at SDCC. Outside of the big theatrical releases, Marvel also showed off a new trailer for She-Hulk and confirmed Daredevil: Born Again for Disney Plus, which will star Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio from the original Netflix Daredevil series.

Marvel Teases Phases 5, 6, Avengers, Black Panther 2, Guardians, More – The Hollywood Reporter

Welcome to the Multiverse Saga.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige made a triumphant return to Comic-Con Saturday and got a hero’s welcome. The executive announced a pair of Avengers movies and revealed the official title for the next saga he’s been building. The Infinity Saga, which concluded with Avengers: Endgame, helped make Marvel the biggest brand in Hollywood. The new batch of projects fall under the title the Multiverse Saga.

“I’m unbelievably excited,” Feige said, noting there were times he wondered if he’d ever get back to the -Con, which was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

The big news was a pair of Avengers films to come out just months apart. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will arrive May 2, 2025, with another Avengers movie following months later. Avengers: Secret Wars hits Nov. 7, 2025. (Scroll to the bottom of this story for the full list of projects unveiled Saturday night.) No directors were revealed, but Endgame filmmakers the Russo brothers have long stated they would like to helm a Secret Wars film.

In typical Feige fashion, he began his panel with some news right away. Feige revealed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Nov. 11) will conclude the studio’s Phase 4 projects, with Ant-Man And the Wasp: Quantumania (Feb. 17, 2023) beginning Phase 5.

Feige shared a number of release dates (or in the case of his Disney+ shows, approximate dates), with Loki season two due out in summer 2022; the Hawkeye spinoff Echo debuting on Disney+ in summer 2023; Ironheart streaming in the fall of 2023; Mahershala Ali’s Blade movie opening in theaters Nov. 3, 2023; and the newly titled Kathryn Hahn/WandaVision spinoff Agatha: Coven of Chaos bowing on Disney+ in Winter 2023.

What’s more, he gave a title and date for Anthony Mackie’s Captain America film, revealing the title is Captain America: New World Order. It opens May 3, 2024. He also shared the title for Charlie Cox’s return to Daredevil, with Daredevil: Born Again being an 18-episode series on Disney+. Also starring Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, the new Daredevil is expected in spring 2024. Meanwhile, the villain-focused film Thunderbolts will close Phase 5 with a date of July 26, 2024. Feige announced that Fantastic Four would kick off Phase 6 on Nov. 8, 2024.

Phase 4 was about “about resetting the MCU and meeting all these new characters,” post-Endgame, Feige said.

The world looked very different the last time Feige faced the 6,500-person Hall H. In July 2019, the executive laid out the studio’s Phase 4, post-Avengers: Endgame plans, which included robust theatrical and streaming releases. Then the coronavirus hit, shuttering movie theaters and disrupting Marvel’s release calendar. There were no Marvel movies for nearly two years, but now things are back on track and Marvel is busier than ever.

Feige trotted out filmmakers such as Ryan Coogler, James Gunn and Peyton Reed to look at their upcoming films. Read on for a recap of every project teased.

SHE-HULK

Early in the panel, Feige welcomed the team behind the Disney+ series She-Hulk to share a new trailer and to reveal that Cox’s Matt Murdock will appear in the series as an attorney. Though She-Hulk was described as a half-hour comedy, Feige noted the MCU “can make a tonal shift.” It can go from funny to “something dark, something gritty, something political thriller.”

SECRET INVASION

Next, Feige introduced Secret Invasion, the Skrull-focused project starring Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders. “You’re never going to know who people really are. Are they Skrull? Are they human?” Smulders said introducing a trailer that features Nick Fury (Jackson) returning to Earth after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Ant-Man 3 director Peyton Reed was next up, and touted that in his film, “We finally get to spend time in the Quantum Realm.” Star Paul Rudd noted that his character, Scott Lang, feels pretty happy with himself for helping save the universe in Endgame — and footage showed Lang reading from his memoir, which his loved ones think is a little overblown.

Later, Scott is sucked into the Quantum Realm, where he comes in contact with the villain Kang (Jonathan Majors). “There might have been a shot of MODOK,” Reed said of the footage, which also included Bill Murray in a mystery role. Majors, who joined the MCU with Loki as the big bad He Who Remains, noted the version in Loki is not the same character in Ant-Man 3 — he’s a different Variant.

James Gunn, Chris Pratt, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Sean Gunn, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

“This is about the end.” That’s how filmmaker James Gunn described Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the conclusion to a story he began with the 2014 film. In footage shown to the crowd, audiences learn that Gamora (Zoe Saldana), who disappeared at the end of Endgame, is now leading the Ravagers — the band of shady space people seen in previous films. The trailer, set to The Flaming Lips’ “Do You Realize?” sets up a doomed love story between Gamora and Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), who is sad to confirm she has no memories of her time with the Guardians. The footage also brought in new character Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) to cheers from the crowd and revealed that Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and his origin story would be a focus of the movie.

“He’s got to be the saddest creature in the universe. And that’s what this is partly about,” Gunn said of exploring Rocket’s origins.

The Guardians portion of the panel also revealed that Maria Bakalova is playing Cosmo the space dog, while Peacemaker actor Chukwudi Iwuji will portray the High Evolutionary.

BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

Wakanda Forever filmmaker Ryan Coogler noted that the impact of late Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in 2020, remains present. Coogler then brought actor Tenoch Huerta to the stage, confirming he will play Namor in the film. Dominique Thorne, the star of the upcoming Ironheart series, will debut in Wakanda Forever and also made an appearance.

Coogler showed off the first trailer and shared a touching memory of being with Boseman five years ago for Comic-Con, when they promoted the first Panther. “His passion, his genius, his pride, his culture and the impact he made on this industry will be felt forever,” said Coogler.
