Deion Sanders’ first Colorado commits feeling the love: ‘I need you’

By Grace Raynor, Manny Navarro and David Ubben

Ryan Staub had visited Colorado three times before Deion Sanders took over as head coach.

Outside of the red, shiny new McLaren parked on Folsom Field, everything else on campus looked pretty much the same to Staub two weekends ago.

“(Deion Sanders) was coaching at Jackson State so I don’t know if he had enough time to make that many arrangements,” said Staub, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound three-star quarterback from Stevenson Ranch, Calif. Staub committed to Colorado last January and was one of seven holdover recruits from Karl Dorrell’s staff who signed with the program Wednesday.

“It definitely looked the exact same, but it didn’t feel the exact same,” he said. “There’s a new energy and a new message in town. That’s obviously Coach Prime and what he’s kind of conveying to the whole world. What he’s going to do here, he’s just gonna bring change. And he’s gonna win.”

Sanders, who stands out much like a $400,000 sports car on a football field, has a long road ahead of him in trying to turn around Colorado’s downtrodden football program.

The Buffaloes were 1-11 in 2022 and ranked 63rd nationally in the 247Sports Team Talent Composite — only four spots better than Sanders’ former team, Jackson State.

The recruiting class Sanders signed Wednesday featured 14 high school recruits and 10 transfers. Only five of the 24 signees were blue-chip prospects coming out of high school, but it’s also been only two weeks since Sanders was hired. Late Wednesday night, Jackson State corner Travis Hunter, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2022, announced his decision to transfer to Colorado, and several of his former JSU teammates should soon be joining him in the Rockies.

Colorado’s recruiting class currently ranks No. 53 nationally, but its overall rank — which includes transfers — is No. 29. The Buffs’ overall rank was No. 58 in 2022 and No. 65 in 2021.

So, what was it like for the first batch of recruits to get wooed to Colorado by Coach Prime?

“Really, we were just kind of getting to know each other,” said Staub, who spent about 20 minutes with Sanders during his official visit weekend. “It basically got to the point where Coach Prime told me, ‘Get on Twitter and start recruiting your future teammates.’ That’s what I’ve been trying to do.”

Since Sanders was hired on Dec. 3, the Buffaloes have hosted two recruiting weekends: one from Dec. 9-11 and another from Dec. 16-18 before Monday’s dead period began.

Sanders was back and forth from Mississippi to Colorado as he split time with his Jackson State team ahead of the Tigers’ Celebration Bowl appearance. But after the game ended Saturday afternoon, Sanders flew back to Boulder, where he caught the last 90 minutes of a three-hour dinner at the Colorado team facility, complete with macaroni and cheese, green beans, blackened shrimp, fried chicken and dinner rolls, according to three-star cornerback signee Carter Stoutmire. A DJ was on hand, which prompted a few of the more gregarious recruits to start dancing.

But despite Coach Prime’s flashy personality, Saturday night felt more like a “cookout” than a “party,” said former Western Michigan defensive end Marshawn Kneeland, who is now considering Colorado as a transfer destination. Save for the McLaren and Aston Martin luxury cars on the field for the ever-anticipated photo shoot, there was a relaxing vibe to the visit.

Even Sanders’ entrance was understated.

“(He) just walked in,” said Kneeland. “Don’t get me wrong: There’re cameras on him at all times. (But) he just walked in: ‘What’s up?’ It didn’t feel like a head coach, if that makes sense. It felt like a father or an uncle. You know what I mean? It wasn’t like, ‘Oh I’ve got to be pressured to not say the wrong thing.’ It’s just like, ‘This is my peoples.’”

Kneeland, who has since visited UCLA, said he spent about 30 minutes with Sanders in his office as Sanders made his rounds with recruits. When the two of them sat down, Sanders had a series of cards that contained Kneeland’s information, including his stats.

“The first thing he said was, ‘I need you.’ And after that, it was like, I don’t know what else anybody can say to make you feel more at home, to make you feel more wanted,” Kneeland said. “It’s definitely a feeling that can’t be reciprocated anywhere else.”

Kneeland said he got the sense that Sanders is more humble now than he was as a player when he was making his name high-stepping up and down the field. His personality can be hard to explain, though, other than, “You just have to see it.”

“His personality is just different from most coaches. I can’t say all (coaches) because I haven’t met all of them,” Kneeland said. “It’s like when he talks, it’s similar to, I want to say how everybody looks at how Jay-Z talks in the rap industry. He knows what he’s talking about. He knows what he’s doing. He’s been there, done that. He was the greatest. So it’s like, he has that extra pizazz, if you will.”

Indeed, Sanders’ resume seems to be striking a chord with recruits who say there’s something different about the potential of playing for the only active college football head coach who is in the Hall of Fame as a player.

Stoutmire, whose father, Omar, played with Sanders and Colorado cornerbacks coach Kevin Mathis for the Dallas Cowboys in 1997, said his future coach — once the top prospect in the state of Florida — has a unique ability to relate to current recruits.

Perhaps three-star wide receiver signee Asaad Waseem summed it up best: “He’s Coach Prime. He played under a legendary coach in Bobby Bowden. He has a gold jacket, College Football Hall of Fame. It’s just different knowing you’re going to play for somebody who did it, got to where you want to go.”

Sanders may not have had much time with the most recent group of visitors, but the rest of the Buffaloes’ staffers made sure recruits had a memorable experience.

Stoutmire, who played at Prestonwood (Texas) Christian, said he and fellow recruits arrived around 3 p.m. on Friday. Stoutmire and his family first drove around campus to catch a view of the mountains. Then it was back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at local Italian restaurant Pasta Jay’s.

Saturday brought a facility tour, a photo shoot with the luxury cars and lunch at the facility. Because the photo shoot took about an hour-and-a-half, Colorado split recruits into two groups so that one could tour campus while the other posed for photos.

Stoutmire said he had never seen a McLaren, let alone sat inside of one, and wasn’t sure if the Buffaloes acquired the cars via an assist from boosters or a local dealership. Regardless, they were a nice touch. “I mean, athletes care a lot about cars. Athletes are all about style,” he said. “So I’d say that helps out a lot with getting athletes there because they know that the program has money and (that the school) would be able to help them get to the next level.”

Kneeland added: “The photos definitely came out great, which is lovely. I know I only posted a couple of them, but there were a lot.”

Saturday afternoon, both groups went to Colorado’s football cafeteria for lunch, where several televisions were tuned into the Jackson State game as Stoutmire munched on lemon pepper wings, barbecue chicken, brisket and cornbread. Each time Jackson State scored or made a big play, the room erupted with cheers.

And by Saturday night, Sanders was in town and making his rounds. That’s when Deuce Roberson, a Colorado Springs native and junior college transfer from Snow (Utah) College, informed the coaches that he was ready to commit. Roberson took an unofficial visit with fellow Snow College teammate Isaiah Jatta, a three-star offensive tackle who is the No. 19 juco prospect in the 247Sports Composite.

Jatta, who had already used all five of his official visits and therefore also visited unofficially, stayed with Roberson as the two commuted back and forth to campus. He, too, committed and signed Wednesday.

For all of the flash Sanders brings to Colorado football, the recruiting operation felt rather low key, according to several of the recruits. Kneeland said he even took an Uber from the airport to the school after he landed in Denver, about 30 miles from Boulder. That doesn’t mean Colorado didn’t impress, though.

“I’d say a lot of us were actually a little bit starstruck of like, how nice everything was, because we had an idea of what I was gonna expect, but it was honestly more than what I expected,” Stoutmire said. “Everything that I saw out there — just the campus and stuff and how nice everything was.”

And of course, Sander’s personality came out in full force.

“Deion’s dope. Deion’s a very personable guy,” said Cal transfer tight end Champion Johnson, who committed along with his younger brother Victory Johnson. “Everyone loves to talk to him. I don’t think I’ve seen him not smile yet. Honestly, I like to match people’s energy, and his energy was an energy I really enjoyed to match.”

Sanders has already flipped four-star running back Dylan Edwards thanks to their long-standing relationship, giving him a top-200 national prospect at the running back position. His quarterback position is in good shape as well, with the arrival of his son Shedeur from Jackson State. There’s also Staub, who committed to Colorado over SMU.

Now it’s time for Sanders to turn his attention to the February signing period, which gives him more time to establish relationships with high school coaches and unsigned prospects. On Wednesday, 247Sports reported five-star cornerback Cormani McClain, the nation’s No. 2 prospect out of Lakeland (Fla.) High, had been in contact with Sanders and Colorado.

Flipping a prospect of McClain’s caliber would send shockwaves through the recruiting world — just like last year when Sanders flipped Hunter from his longtime commitment to Florida State.

Carter Whitson, who coached Colorado edge signee Taje McCoy at Putnam City (Okla.) High, believes Sanders will engineer a quick turnaround and will get “more than people would think that he could bargain for” out of his players. He commended Sanders for hiring a quality staff that will take care of the X’s and O’s so that Sanders can presumably play the CEO role.

Over the last 10 years, Whitson said, Colorado has been “Rutgers or Kansas,” in terms of routinely producing teams that struggled.

Now?

“Name somebody that’s done it better on social media. And what do these kids do?” Whitson said. “If I asked Taje, (if) I’d say, ‘Hey, have you watched any Deion Sanders film?’, his answer would be, ‘Yes, I’ve seen him on TikTok.’ It wouldn’t be, ‘Oh yeah, we saw his highlights on SportsCenter, we watched it over and over again.’ That’s what my generation would say.

“Those guys, I think they’ll do it right. They’ll do it fast. And we’ll see what happens after that.”

Kanye West’s Love of Hitler and Nazis Allegedly Goes Back 20 Years – Rolling Stone

For the past two months, Kanye West has dominated headlines for a nonstop stream of reprehensible behavior. What started out as a controversy over the rapper’s ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirts descended into a torrent of antisemitic remarks before he appeared on Alex Jones’ show in early December to praise Nazis and Hitler. “I see good things about Hitler,” West said during the bizarre three-hour interview where he falsely claimed Hitler had invented highways and microphones.

West’s remarks mirrored earlier claims former business and music industry sources had told CNN and NBC this fall — that the musician had lauded Hitler and made several antisemitic comments within the past five years, paying at least two settlements to former employees who allege he made such remarks in the workplace.

But as nearly half a dozen sources who worked with West tell Rolling Stone, his alleged obsession of Hitler and Nazis dates back even further than previously reported. They claim that West has been discussing his admiration for Hitler and what he sees as positive achievements of Nazi Germany for nearly two decades, describing it as a well-known but well-kept secret within the rapper’s inner circle.

Beyond just fascination, two sources claim, West allegedly took inspiration from Nazi propaganda strategies and power-gaining tactics to achieve his own fame and success. “It’s not a stretch to now compare Kanye’s ‘by any means necessary’ methods and tactics with Adolf Hitler’s,” a former longtime collaborator says. “To know that a Hitler/[Joseph] Goebbels playbook has been a central inspiration to Kanye’s own media playbook helps bring a great deal of clarity to the exact types of moves he’s been making over his career.” (West did not reply to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.)

“It’s not a stretch to now compare Kanye’s ‘by any means necessary’ methods and tactics with Adolf Hitler’s.”

Former Longtime Collaborator

In the years before the release of West’s 2004 Grammy-winning debut album The College Dropout, West’s success as a rapper was unclear. While he was a wonderkid producer, music label executives believed West’s semi-preppy look and suburban upbringing wasn’t a fit for the gangster rapper image of the early 2000s. West’s persistence won out when he was signed to Roc-A-Fella in 2002 and quickly began working on his first album. It was in those early studio sessions the then-26-year-old frequently discussed Hitler and Nazis and quizzed others on their thoughts, according to a 2003 music industry source who claims to have witnessed the conversations firsthand. “It was like a daily thing,” the source says.

The topic wasn’t couched in general conversation, the music source says. Instead, West allegedly would approach collaborators and industry executives and ambush them with questions — seemingly trying to catch people off-guard. “Going up to somebody like, ‘So what do you think about the Holocaust?’ the music source explains.

Until West received an answer he was satisfied with — which allegedly included some form of acknowledgement of the “good” the Nazi leader had done — West would continue to press people until he felt his views were validated, the music industry source says. “It sometimes became heated depending on the person,” says the source.

West took a particular interest in Nazi marketing and propaganda techniques, according to a second former longtime collaborator, who estimates in the four-plus years of working with West that the rapper spoke positively of Hitler at least half a dozen times.

“[West’s] pattern of speaking on this in the studio [or] workplace was reasonably consistent,” the longtime former collaborator claims. “If he felt you were trustworthy … there was a reasonably high likelihood that he would attempt to engage with you and evangelize his beliefs about Hitler and the Nazis to you.”

A third longtime music collaborator recalls having a brief, tense conversation with West over Hitler around 2014, with West allegedly trying to explain the “good” Hitler had done. “I think my exact words were, ‘So what if Hitler did some good shit. So what?’”

“It’s almost unfathomable that anyone would call [Hitler] anything other than a murderer.”

Former Business Associate

Others didn’t feel so comfortable challenging West. Although the former longtime collaborator says they found conversations and mentions of Hitler extremely troubling, they felt there was “absolutely zero reasonable ability” to push back without risking being fired. “When these things happened, if you still wanted a place in this group, you stuffed down your concerns, kept a smile on your face, and moved forward as if nothing bad had happened,” the former collaborator explains.

West praising Hitler stunned a former business associate, who claims during a high-level meeting in fall 2015 that West called Hitler a “marketing genius” within the first 15 minutes of the call. “In my 25-plus years of being in the workforce, I’ve never heard anybody say that name out loud in a business meeting,” the associate says.

To salvage the meeting, the businessperson recalls correcting West and attempting to shift the conversation, only for West to say, “No, [Hitler] really understood how to mobilize people in a way that no one ever has.” “Hearing that, it’s almost unfathomable that anyone would call [Hitler] anything other than a murderer,” the former business associate explains, adding it was “without question the most disgusting thing I’ve heard in my lifetime.”

The following year, West released “Famous,” a track that reignited his long-standing feud with Taylor Swift. An early version of the song that leaked online contained antisemitic lyrics and West gripes about not being able to talk about Hitler, The Wrap recently reported. “The world’s turning black slowly,” West raps. “Where you can call niggas ‘niggas,’ but you better not mention Hitler. So tell me who runs the labels, where the guns from?”

West’s Hitler comments again almost spilled out into the public forum in May 2018 during a trainwreck interview with TMZ where West crassly said that America’s painful history of the enslavement of Black people “sounds like a choice.”

During this rant, West allegedly spoke about loving Hitler and Nazis, former TMZ staffer Van Lathan Jr. claimed on his podcast “Higher Learning” in October. However, Lathan said, TMZ removed the offending remarks from the video. (Two people with knowledge of the incident told Rolling Stone they had also heard about West’s remarks at TMZ’s offices.)

Behind closed doors, two sources say, West continued to talk about Hitler and Nazis with his inner circle at the time — escalating when the rapper told his team that he wanted to name his eighth studio album Hitler. (CNN first reported on West wanting to name the album after the Nazi leader.)

“If you give a maniac a big audience — like Hitler — bad things happen. There are people listening who are buying into it because Kanye said it and what he’s saying is garbage.”

Former Business Associate

But two industry sources allege that West’s admiration of Hitler and Nazis is beyond shock-value or talking points; rather, they claim West has tried to mimic Nazi techniques — such as demanding ultimate control, dominating a press narrative and propaganda strategies — for his own personal and career gain.

“I feel like he used those techniques to get to where he is, to be honest,” explains the music industry source from 2003. “He was just so fascinated by [Hitler] — someone that can have complete control over people and how he did it. I think it was maybe the understanding of who Hitler was and how he created his army … I think [West] started to almost correlate how he could manipulate things to be, not the same level, but how he could try to get people to be his ‘army.’”

The former longtime collaborator recalls West frequently talking about “building an army,” and would pump up his team by referring to them as “assassins,” equating the “work we were doing as war.”

Those who have watched West lavish praise on Hitler on podcasts and interviews are concerned that he could wind up influencing even the smallest number of his fans. To them, it’s not an eccentric and provocative entertainer gaining headlines — it’s amplification of harmful and dangerous beliefs.

“No one should be writing off his behavior as merely “Kanye being Kanye,” the former collaborator adds. “This is a person who purposely deployed nuanced manipulation and propaganda inspired by Nazi and fascist playbooks as a means of galvanizing himself for the purposes of accumulating power and influence and then attempted to convert that — with complete seriousness — into a run for the U.S. presidency.”

“Between his fame, social media and traditional media, he has a very big microphone,” the former business associate adds. “It’s reckless and dangerous because in some ways he’s legitimizing the fact that there was some justification [for Hitler’s actions] … If you give a maniac a big audience — like Hitler — bad things happen. There are people listening who are buying into it because Kanye said it and what he’s saying is garbage.”

‘Yes, you remember the feelings you had at the time,’ she tells this week’s Stellar Magazine.

Thompson previously revealed that she was so convincing in the film as a result of personal experience – having her heart ‘very badly broken’ by her first husband Kenneth Branagh.

Once the golden couple of British cinema, dubbed Ken and Em, they split after eight years together when he began an affair with Helena Bonham Carter.

The Love Horoscope For Each Zodiac Sign On Saturday, December 10, 2022

The love horoscope of each zodiac sign in astrology is here for Saturday, December 10, 2022. Here’s what is happening in love and what advice is best for your relationships, per astrology.

There is a pragmatic side to Venus that we don’t often think about. Venus not only rules love, but she also rules partnerships, money, and property.

RELATED: The 3 Zodiac Signs Who Are The Luckiest In Love On December 10, 2022

These matters are dear to Venus because they provide a supportive structure to love and romance. In astrology, Venus is a friend to the planet Saturn, which is why her transit through the zodiac sign of Capricorn is a good thing for us to experience at the end of the year.

We are ready to build and grow a life with a special person, but not something rooted in romance alone.

We want trust, fidelity and loyalty. We want a person we can love but can also turn a house into a home with.

What today’s love horoscope has in store for each zodiac sign on Saturday, December 10, 2022:

Aries

Aries, even you and your optimism know there is no place for disrespect in a loving relationship. Angry words are hard to forget once they have left a person’s mouth. That does not mean you can’t salvage what you believe to be true love. What it does mean, though, is that it will be work.

Taurus

Taurus, if you don’t believe in love, it’s harder to find. No matter how real your feelings of affection are towards a person, if your heart is guarded or jaded, it can be impossible to truly understand what you need or want to give. And when someone tries to love you back, it can fall on deaf ears. It’s time to work on you.

Gemini

When you decide to give your heart away, remember that love is a high-risk activity. You may not get back what you think you have earned. In fact, love only works when it’s given freely with no expectations or thoughts about who is doing what.

Cancer

You are a sensitive and warm soul; when your partner feels like they are pulling away, the distance can be loud as a scream. During these moments of silence, you will find your inner strength. It could be good to know that no matter what happens in your relationship, you will always stand on your own two feet.

Leo

It’s time to put yourself first. You love to treat your partner to good food and a fun time, but all these things can add up to a lot of money and can hurt your physical health if you do too much too often. It’s time to put the breaks on your romantic side and look at how to become more practical. A home-cooked meal may be a good place to start.

Virgo

As wise as you are, there are times when you can become over your head in a relationship. A communication problem may require advice from a professional. If your partner refuses to go to counseling with you, you may choose to go yourself first.

Libra

Someone is starting to send mixed signals. If your relationship has suddenly become a series of text messages and emojis, it’s time to look at the reason why. Passive aggressive behavior is not something to shrug away. It could be that there is an unresolved conflict that you and your lover need to work on.

Scorpio

You appreciate and value a good financial plan. Because you are so frugal, it can mean a lot to you to know that you and your partner are on the same page financially. Money can be tight, so bring up ways to save for the best future.

Sagittarius

The past may never change, but someone’s actions can reflect what your future could look like in a relationship with them. Have they admitted to being a cheater? it can be a tough call even if their behavior has been nothing but loyalty. Don’t ignore your doubts but expect to talk about it until you feel more comfortable with the situation.

Capricorn

A friend’s judgmental ness about your partner may be more of a reflection of their insecurities. Sometimes friends can spot red flags long before you do. But, look closely to see if they are dealing with bitterness in their own lives. They may love you but be conflicted about losing you to someone you are in love with.

Aquarius

Keep things in perspective. Tis’ the season to fall in love, and a workplace romance may seem to be on the horizon. However, feelings can be confusing over a glass of bubbly. Be careful not to hurt your public reputation by fooling around with a fling that may be great presently but not worth it in the long term.

Pisces

Be open to friends setting you up on a blind date. Online dating has its place, but there is nothing better than a good old-fashioned romance that starts from your circle of trust. Ask your friends if they know someone who is single and looking; they may already have the perfect person in mind.

Aaron Rodgers exits game vs. Eagles with rib injury; Jordan Love fires TD after replacing Packers QB

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers exited Sunday night’s 40-33 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and headed into the locker room in the third quarter. Rodgers, who has been battling a fractured right thumb since early October, left the game with what the team originally described as an oblique injury.

During his postgame press conference, Rodgers said he hurt his ribs in the first half and tweaked them again in the third quarter. Rodgers said X-rays were inconclusive and he will undergo further testing on Monday.

As for when or if he will return to the lineup this season, Rodgers said if he is healthy, he wants to be out there “as long as we’re mathematically alive” for a postseason spot. The loss dropped Green Bay’s record to 4-8. They sit 11th in the NFC, three games behind the Commanders for the seventh and final seed.

Backup Jordan Love came in at quarterback in Rodgers’ absence and quickly made an impact, connecting with rookie receiver Christian Watson on a 63-yard touchdown, closing the Packers’ deficit to 37-30.

Before leaving the game, Rodgers went 11-for-16 with 140 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Rodgers did not have an injury designation for tonight’s game, but has been playing with an avulsion fracture in his right thumb, per NFL Media. The injury occurred on Oct. 9 in the Packers’ loss to the Giants, when New York defender Oshane Ximines hit No. 12’s hand during a Hail Mary attempt on the final play of the game.

Rodgers has not missed any games due to the thumb and says he will continue playing through the injury. As of now, he says he is not considering surgery.
