Jack Dorsey Announces New Square Division Aimed at DeFi on Bitcoin

Square founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey, has announced the creation of a new Square division dedicated to building decentralized financial services using Bitcoin.

Dorsey followed that tweet with a thread explaining that, like Square’s new Bitcoin hardware wallet, the developments will be completely open-source.

“Like our new #Bitcoin hardware wallet, we’re going to do this completely in the open. Open roadmap, open development, and open source. @brockm is leading and building this team, and we have some ideas around the initial platform primitives we want to build.”

The new business will combine the efforts of CashApp, Seller and Tidal in the same goal of decentralized financial services.

Recently Dorsey has shown great interest in Bitcoin. Dorsey stated that he would even leave Square or Twitter should its development become more vital during the Bitcoin 2021 conference.

“Bitcoin changes absolutely everything. I don’t think there is anything more important in my lifetime to work on,” said Dorsey

“If I were not at Square or Twitter, I would be working on bitcoin. If [bitcoin] needed more help than Square or Twitter, I would leave them for bitcoin. But, I believe both companies have a role to play.”

Since then Dorsey has taken further steps into the Bitcoin space. He first announced an event called The B Word geared at demystifying mainstream narratives surrounding Bitcoin.  Then Square’s hardware lead, Jesse Dorogusker, announced the development of a new hardware wallet, stating the goal of making Bitcoin custody more mainstream.

With Dorsey’s continued engagement and interest in developing tools for Bitcoin, he has emerged as one of the cryptocurrency’s largest advocates.

The Division 2 Will Get a Brand-New Game Mode in ‘Late 2021 At the Earliest’

Ubisoft has shared a bit more info on the big update coming to The Division 2 in late 2021 at the earliest, including that there will be a brand-new game mode and new ways to progress your agent. The Division 2 development team shared the update, following up on its recent confirmation that more content was on the way and that Title Update 12 was no longer going to be the last major update to the game. While the team didn’t reveal too much, they did tease that this new game mode is “entirely new to the franchise.” Furthermore, the team is “investigating new ways to progress your agent with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability.”

Development on this new update is still in its early stages and will take several months to complete, according to the team, and it is currently scheduled to release in late 2021 at the earliest. The goal is to make “meaningful change to the game,” so the necessary time will be taken to ensure that can come true.

Until the update is ready, Ubisoft Massive will be re-running previous seasons released during Year 2. This means that the next season – Season 5 – will be a re-run of Season 1 and will give players a chance to collect rewards and collectibles that they may have missed the first time around. There will also be regular Leagues and Global Events, new Apparel Events, and minor Title Updates focused on game health.Ubisoft Massive also revealed that The Division 2 has seen over 40 million players and that March 2020 saw the highest activity for the game since its launch in February 2019.

Development on The Division 2 will continue on as the studio also works on creating its Avatar game and the recently announced open-world Star Wars project.

The Division 2 Will Get A New Mode Later This Year, But Not Much Else

Screenshot: Ubisoft / Massive

Good news for Division 2 players: Ubisoft and Massive have laid out plans for the future of the game, including a brand new mode later this year. Bad news: Don’t expect anything new for a while.

In a blog post titled “The Road Ahead,” the developers behind the online looter-shooter, Massive Entertainment, explained that The Division 2 had a successful 2020 and laid out the first plans of what the future looks like. The big news is that a new mode is coming. Massive describes it as “entirely new to the franchise.” This would seem to imply it’s not just survival mode from Division 1, something fans have wanted in Division 2 for years.

This new mode won’t be added to the game until at the earliest “late 2021.” And it sounds like that could easily slip as game developers continue to struggle with the global pandemic. Covid-19 already led to a recent Resident Evil crossover event being severely downsized in scope and scale.

Massive also announced that future seasons of The Division 2 this year will just be reruns of the last seasons. So “Season 5″ will just be Season 1 all over again. For players who have jumped into the game after some of these seasons have passed, it’s a nice way to give them a chance to play that content again. But for folks who’ve been playing since Warlords of NYC or before, it’s a disappointing bit of news. Though some new apparel events will happen this year, which is something.

Massive will continue to be involved in developing The Division 2, however the company also explained that Ubisoft Bucharest will assist in creating content for the online shooter. This makes sense as Massive is also working on an Avatar game and Star Wars game.

Last month, Ubisoft and Massive confirmed that The Division 2 would continue to receive new updates and content past Season 4. Before that news, fans had wondered if the game was going to wind down as Season 4’s narrative wraps up plotlines and character arcs that started back in the first game. Even the name of Season 4, “End of Watch,” sounded very final.

So yeah, it seems The Division 2 will keep on keeping on, but I doubt many players will stick around to replay old seasons while waiting for something new.

Avalanche vs. Golden Knights score: Live updates from Lake Tahoe NHL West division outdoor showdown

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught the sports world to expect the unexpected and that’s exactly what happened on Saturday. After one period of play between the Colorado Avalanche and Vegas Golden Knights at Lake Tahoe, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman joined the NBC broadcast and announced that the game was being postponed until midnight ET/9 p.m. PT on Saturday as a result of unsafe ice conditions.

The bright sun on the clear day simply caused too many issues throughout the first period earlier in the day. Several players and even a referee lost their footing on slushy ice. After the first period concluded, officials made an attempt to work with the ice and covered sections of it with tarps in an effort to keep the sun off of it.

During the first period of what began as Saturday’s game, the Avalanche opened the scoring with a goal from defenseman Samuel Girard thanks to a beautiful pass from Nathan MacKinnon. Check below for updates of the second period and more as the action happens.

The Division 2 Will Get More Updates, Announce Seemingly Surprised Developers

Image: Ubisoft

Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have confirmed today that The Division 2 will receive more content this year, doubling down on statements made by Ubisoft’s CEO earlier this week during a call with investors.

The current season of The Division 2 is named “End of Watch” and wraps up a storyline and character arc that began all the way back in the first game. That fact, along with news of Division 2 developer Massive working on a big new Star Wars game, led many players to speculate that the most recent update, Title Update 12, was the last planned content update.

It turns out those players were correct. But since then, plans have changed. Massive announced today on Twitter and Reddit that TU12 was indeed the planned final update for the game, but that the studio is now changing course. It will release more content later this year, but had no additional details to share at this time.

“Today, we are thrilled to confirm that there will be additional content for The Division 2 released later this year! It is your continuous passion and support which enables us to continue to build upon The Division 2 experience, and we cannot thank you enough for that.”

News of more Division 2 content was first vaguely announced by Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot earlier this week. During a February 12 call with investors, he said Massive would work with other Ubisoft studios together on the series. “You’re going to see more on The Division in this year and the year after,” said Guillemot. Today’s announcement from Massive specifies that players can look out for more Division 2 content and not some big new sequel from the looter-shooter franchise. Beyond that though, Massive’s announcement is vague and doesn’t really explain what kind of content will be added or when, beyond later this year. Almost as if they too didn’t know there was going to be more content until Guillemot declared it.

I don’t expect a Warlords of New York-sized DLC to be released this year, but instead more seasons of content with small new missions, and some new weapons added every few months. Not super exciting, but for fans of The Division 2 at least the game isn’t dead.
