Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cameron Brown Among 15 Buckeyes Unavailable For Ohio State’s Matchup With Penn State

On Tuesday, Ryan Day said “the plan” was for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to play against Penn State. Things didn’t go according to plan.

The junior Ohio State wide receiver is one of 15 Buckeyes listed as unavailable for Saturday’s noon matchup with the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley, which means Smith-Njigba will miss his fifth game through eight contests this season.

OHIO STATE STATUS REPORT FOR PSU
UNAVAILABLE
WR JAXON SMITH-NJIGBA
CB CAMERON BROWN
S KOURT WILLIAMS
WR CALEB BURTON
RB TC CAFFEY
RB EVAN PRYOR
DE MITCHELL MELTON
WR KAMRYN BABB
DE OMARI ABOR
LB TERADJA MITCHELL
TE JOE ROYER
CB LLOYD MCFARQUHAR
LS BRADLEY ROBINSON
WR CORBAN CLEVELAND
LB JALEN PACE

After suffering a hamstring injury in the season opener, Smith-Njigba played in just one of the next five games before returning to action against Iowa following the bye week. But after catching just one pass for seven yards, Smith-Njigba left the game in the second quarter noticeably favoring his injured leg.

Day said after the game that Smith-Njigba, who played 22 snaps in the first half before being sidelined, had exhausted his “pitch count” and actually wanted to return to action.

“He’s always been trying to get back out there. He’s a competitor and it’s been hard for him to not be out there more,” Day said Tuesday. “But we wanted to make sure that we kept that number at around about 20 and make sure we didn’t put him out there anymore.”

The record-setting wideout won’t be back this week, though, and his health status will remain a question as Ohio State heads into the final month of its regular-season schedule.

Also out for the Buckeyes this week is starting cornerback Cameron Brown, who will miss his fourth game of the last five as he continues to deal with injury issues. Brown last played against Michigan State before the Buckeye bye week. JK Johnson started in Brown’s absence against Iowa, and fellow second-year cornerback Jordan Hancock is also a candidate to play significant snaps after making his season debut against Iowa.

Starting long snapper Bradley Robinson won’t suit up for the Buckeyes after suffering an apparent knee injury against Iowa last weekend. Day didn’t speak to the severity of Robinson’s injury when asked on Tuesday, but said second-year specialist Mason Arnold would likely remain the go-to option to fill in for the seventh-year senior.

Buckeye captain Kamryn Babb remains unavailable for this week’s game as do Teradja Mitchell, Joe Royer and Kourt Williams, among others.

Veteran defensive end and Buckeye captain Tyler Friday, who missed Ohio State’s last three games due to injury, is returning to action against Penn State.

Jaylen Brown wants to help Donda Academy students after school reportedly closes

Jaylen Brown said that he’s leaving Kanye West’s Donda Sports earlier this week and spoke about that decision for the first time after the Celtics’ loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night at TD Garden.

“What would have happened if I stayed?” Brown said. “I work hard to be able to have the platform that I have and use it to be a voice for the voiceless. So to potentially maybe have to sacrifice that platform, I don’t think that would be the right decision, so I had to do what we have to do.”

After explaining his decision, Brown continued to talk passionately about wanting to help the students impacted by the reported mlosing of Donda Academy, a school that was founded by Kanye West in 2022.

“In terms of Donda Sports and those kids, that’s the emphasis I’m on right now,” Brown said. “These kids have nothing to do with what’s really going on. They don’t deserve to abruptly have their season end, or abruptly have their school year cut or diminished because of the actions of others. So I’ve been trying to lean in to get resources together to make sure that doesn’t happen. We live in a society where people see a headline and they feel like they know everything about a situation. I spent a lot of time with Donda, teaching, building relationships with those kids, those parents.

“The only thing they are guilty of is trying to get a unique opportunity to get ahead in life. It’s a lot of great events, opportunities and resources that were designed into that curriculum. For me — for you guys, maybe, it’s an association affiliated to Kanye West, but to me, it’s a school with kids, with parents, with teachers that have names and faces that I got to work with. So I look at that situation differently. I plan to use my platform to make sure those kids get what’s promised to them. Yes, a lot is going on, but I think that’s where the line is drawn. Education is key, and I think I’ve been about education my whole entire career. You can check my track record. I’m going to continue to fight for those kids and fight for kids in neighborhoods that necessarily don’t have people fighting for them. In this case, it’s a lot of opportunities and resources to a lot of kids, and it’s so much to unpack. I could talk up here about what’s being said and what’s not being said, and I don’t want to keep you guys here all night, but like I said before, these kids have nothing to do with what’s going on. Everybody feels like they know everything about a situation, but I spent time there. A lot of great families, teachers, and that’s what I see. So I’m going to try to make sure everything that’s promised to them in the foreseeable future and anybody who wants to align, contact me.”

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown, Rams’ Aaron Donald leaving Donda Sports

Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald both announced Tuesday night that they are leaving Donda Sports, the agency founded by the artist formerly known as Kanye West, due to antisemitic comments he recently made.

The announcements came hours after Adidas terminated its relationship with the rapper, who now is known as Ye.

Brown’s decision came one day after he told The Boston Globe he would remain with Donda Sports despite the fact he didn’t condone Ye’s remarks.

“In the past 24 hours, I’ve been able to reflect and better understand how my previous statements lack clarity in expressing my stance against recent insensitive public remarks and actions,” Brown said Tuesday in a statement he released via Twitter. “For that, I apologize. And in this, I seek to be as clear as possible. I have always, and will always, continue to stand strongly against any antisemitism, hate speech, misrepresentation, and oppressive rhetoric of any kind.

“In light of that, after sharing in conversations, I now recognize that there are times when my voice and my position can’t coexist in spaces that don’t correspond with my stance or my values. And, for that reason, I am terminating my association with Donda Sports.”

Donald announced around the same time that his family would leave Donda Sports, saying that Ye’s remarks “are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children.”

“As parents and members of society, we felt a responsibility to send a clear message that hateful words and actions have consequences and that we must do better as human beings,” Donald wrote in his statement via Twitter. “We do not feel our beliefs, voices and actions belong anywhere near a space that misrepresents and oppresses people of any background, ethnicity or race. We’ve had the pleasure of working with many incredible people along the way and hope to continue to use our platform to uplift and support other families, children and communities through positive outreach.”

Brown and Donald signed with Donda Sports in May.

Earlier Tuesday, Adidas announced it would be formally cutting ties with Ye, who had developed a hugely lucrative clothing and apparel partnership with the company.

“Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the company said in a statement Tuesday. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s values of diversity and inclusion, mutual respect and fairness.”

As part of its statement, Adidas said it would lose roughly $250 million this year in net income as a result of breaking away from its partnership with Ye, but that doing so was necessary in the wake of antisemitic comments he has made in recent weeks.

Ye has made controversial remarks in the past on a variety of issues, including slavery and COVID-19 vaccines. Earlier this month, Ye posted on Twitter that he would soon go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” an apparent reference to the U.S. defense readiness condition scale known as DEFCON. He was suspended from both Twitter and Instagram.

His recent string of antisemitic comments has caused several companies to break ties with the rapper or his various business lines. Creative Artists Agency, Balenciaga, Gap and Foot Locker are among others that have ended their partnerships with him.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Amon-Ra St. Brown did not suffer a concussion, was removed because of new protocol

Getty Images

The Lions announced during Sunday’s game against the Cowboys that wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had been ruled out with a concussion, but today the team said St. Brown actually did not suffer a concussion.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said today that St. Brown was removed from the game because of the new league rule that all players who exhibit ataxia, which is poor muscle control that causes clumsy movements, are automatically taken out of the game. Campbell said medical staff watched tape of St. Brown’s motion on the field and took him out.

“They look at the video, and so when the video, plus what they saw there, it’s automatically you’re out now,” Campbell said.

Campbell said St. Brown will remain in the concussion protocol and continue to be evaluated, but from all indications he’ll be clear to play on Sunday against the Dolphins.

Cowboys vs. Lions score: Live updates, game stats, highlights, analysis; Amon-Ra St. Brown suffers concussion

We’re at halftime between the Cowboys and Lions’ Week 7 matchup, and it’s Dallas holding a 6-3 lead in Dak Prescott’s return to the lineup.

Dallas had two chances to punch the ball in for a touchdown, only to kick a field goal from the 2-yard line on the first. They also turned the ball over when Noah Brown fumbled inside the 5-yard line on a strike from Prescott late in the second quarter. Prior to the Brown fumble, running back Ezekiel Elliott looked to have suffered a serious knee injury, but managed to walk to the sideline, and even tried to return to the game. Prescott completed 9 of 14 passes for 104 yards in his first action since getting injuring his thumb in Week 1.

Detroit managed two field goal drives in the first half, but lost Amon-Ra St. Brown to a concussion on its second drive of the game. Jared Goff went 10 of 12 for 85 yards, working mostly in the underneath areas of the field.

Will the Cowboys’ offense get on track in the second half, or will the Lions pull off the upset on the road? We’ll find out the answers to this question and many more soon enough. In the meantime, keep it locked to our live blog throughout the rest of the day as we update you with stats, scores, and highlights.

Zac Brown Band cancels Vancouver show after Canada denies entry

The Zac Brown Band was not destined for Colder Weather.

Despite performing in Canada for more than a decade, including twice this year, the Grammy-award-winning band was denied entry into the country on Thursday night.

“Each time we’ve come to Canada, we have been at the mercy of a single border agent who decides who is allowed in to work,” lead singer Zac Brown wrote on Facebook. “Unfortunately, not everyone was able to make it in the country last night.”

Brown revealed some members of the crew had charges on their record from more than 10 years ago which led a Canadian border patrol agent to stop the group.

The band was scheduled to play at Rogers Arena in Vancouver on Friday night.

Rogers Arena said the show was canceled due to “unforeseen logistical issues,” according to its website. The venue refunded all ticketholders following the abrupt cancellation.

While the band likely would have been able to continue with their scheduled show in the Candian seaport, it chose to honor its relationships and put Canada in its rearview mirror for the “Out In The Middle Tour.”

“We are a family, a tribe,” Brown said. “We stick together and support each other and we never leave anyone behind.”

The country music troupe will have a rapid turnaround and play in Portland, Oregon on Saturday night.

The tour began on April 22 and will run until November 19, originally consisting of stops in 31 cities in 22 states and provinces.

After performing in Portland, Zac Brown Band will finish up its West Coast trip with gigs in Los Angeles, Oakland, California, and Phoenix.

“As a band who prides themselves on showing up with excitement and professionalism, we will always play where we are welcome and appreciated, and we’re so sorry we can’t be there tonight,” Brown wrote.

Fantasy Football: Don’t rush to add Cardinals’ Robbie Anderson after Marquise Brown injury

Robbie Anderson’s time in Carolina was numbered as soon as he got sent to the locker room by interim coach Steve Wilks Sunday following a sideline argument, and it took less than 24 hours for the Panthers to find a new home for him. The Cardinals acquired the disgruntled receiver Monday, per reports, potentially as a replacement for the recently injured Marquise Brown.

Brown left Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after he got rolled up on after a jump ball in the fourth quarter, and he had his left foot in a boot after the game. We don’t know the extent of the injury as of Monday afternoon, but given that the Cardinals moved so quickly to acquire Anderson suggests that they are expecting Brown to miss some time. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it could potentially be a season-ending injury, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that there is some optimism following his MRI:

That’s disappointing news for Brown, who has performed admirably in the unenviable task of trying to carry a passing game that has been among the NFL’s least efficient this season. He had 485 yards and three touchdowns while catching 67.2% of his 64 targets through the first six games of the season and was just about to get some help with the return of DeAndre Hopkins from suspension this week — passes thrown to Cardinals not named “Marquise Brown” this season have averaged 5.53 yards per attempt.

The Cardinals rightly realize they still need some help in the passing game, then, regardless of Brown’s injury. That just makes it even more important. Despite ranking first in pass attempts, they are just 14th in passing yards after Week 6 — they rank dead last in yards per attempt at a paltry 5.8, while their 2.3% touchdown rate is better than only Anderson’s former Panthers and the Steelers. The return of Hopkins should help, but any extended absence for Brown would more or less leave them where they started.

That being said, it’s hard to get too excited about what this means for Anderson’s Fantasy value. The Cardinals face the Saints on Thursday night in Week 7, so it’ll be tough for Anderson to get acclimated to a new system in time to play. When he’s up to speed, Anderson is still a 29-year-old with a single 1,000-yard season to his name, and he has caught just 48.2% of the passes thrown his way for 5.3 yards per target since the start of last season.

This is to say, that while Anderson has some talent and a potential opportunity here, there probably isn’t much reason to put in a big claim for him on waivers in Week 7. If you’ve got a roster spot to play with and can put in, say, a 5% bid on him just to see if he can find a spark, go for it. But I’m expecting him to be a boom-or-bust WR3 in a best-case scenario, with Hopkins likely to be asked to take on a huge target share to lift this offense — and I do think Hopkins still has top-12 upside, for what it’s worth. Anderson gives Kyler Murray a deep threat that defenses have to take seriously, but he’s not as good an all-around receiver as Brown and likely isn’t a one-for-one replacement for him in either the Cardinals offense or your own Fantasy lineup.

And it probably doesn’t matter much for the Panthers offense, either. Not because there won’t be a few more targets to go around, but because that offense is such a disaster that a few more targets really don’t mean much. They had six straight three-and-outs in Week 7, with that snap only broken by a four-play drive where they picked up a first down on the first play before going three-and-out on the subsequent first down. Maybe D.J. Moore’s target share goes even higher, but with none of the Panthers quarterbacks inspiring much confidence, it’s impossible to suggest him as a start these days. I’m hanging on to Moore on my bench, but I need to see a lot from this offense before I can trust him at this point.

Kody Brown Hoped Christine Wouldn’t Leave Him

  • Kody Brown said on “Sister Wives” that he wished Christine wouldn’t leave.
  • “I believe God can make miracles happen,” his fourth wife Robyn said about Christine staying.
  • Kody said he was struggling with his faith and his message to the world seems “dysfunctional now.”

Christine Brown’s move out of Arizona was getting closer on Sunday’s episode of TLC’s “Sister Wives,” but Kody Brown and some other family members struggled to accept the reality.

“I’m living in a delusional world where I’m wishing that Christine wouldn’t leave,” Kody told cameras in a confessional interview while reflecting back on his daughter Ysabel’s birthday and graduation party, presumably filmed for the show in June 2021.

He also said he had hoped Ysabel would choose to attend college in Arizona and that he could “maintain some quasi-family relationship” with Christine.

“Kody is not one to hide his emotions though. He’s more gonna show you how he’s feeling and I think he’s just super sad,” Christine said in her own confessional interview. “And it’s bittersweet. He loves Ysabel and he hasn’t spent enough time with her and I think he’s probably realizing that.”

On a previous episode of “Sister Wives,” the former partners told Kody’s three remaining wives that Christine was leaving Kody and moving with their 12-year-old daughter Truely to Utah. They also argued about Kody’s decision not to visit Ysabel at Christine’s house because the teenager had gone to school in person.

Kody previously said that Ysabel would “benefit more” from spending time with her friends during her senior year. “But she’ll be fine,” he added.

Robyn, Kody’s fourth wife, was similarly having a hard time with Christine’s decision to leave Kody and move away from the family, especially because all of the Brown parents and kids that lived in Utah got together and had a wonderful time celebrating Ysabel.

“Why isn’t this something worth fighting for? Why isn’t this something worth staying for?” she asked the cameras rhetorically in a solo interview.

“I don’t know, I’m just one of those people who hopes constantly that maybe something will spark for someone and they’ll just go, ‘Oh, this is worth figuring out and sticking around,'” she continued.

She said that she would look at her family celebrating on that day and feel that way. “I believe God can make miracles happen,” she added.

Kody didn’t appear quite as optimistic, though.

“The message that we had to the world about functional polygamy seems so dysfunctional now,” he said in his confessional interview.

Christine and Kody publicly announced that they were ending their “spiritual marriage” in November 2021. They have six children together: Truely, 12, Ysabel, 19, Gwendlyn, 20,  Paedon, 23, Mykelti, 25, and Aspyn, 26.

“Sister Wives” airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.

Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics set to ‘put our best foot forward’ under interim coach Joe Mazzulla

CANTON, Mass. — In the wake of the suspension of Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka for the entire 2022-23 NBA season for violations of team rules, interim coach Joe Mazzulla said Monday that his goal is to simply continue building upon what allowed the Celtics to reach the NBA Finals last season for the first time in 12 years.

“It’s not about carrying on from one person,” Mazzulla said during the team’s media day here in the Boston suburbs. “It’s about carrying on the identity of our players. We had our struggles early last season, but at our best, we knew what our identity was. It was our defense, it was our buy-in from a defensive standpoint, and then it was sharing the ball and moving quickly on the offensive end.

“So as much as we can stick to the things we were great at last year, and then find areas to improve along the way, I think is the right way to go.”

The overwhelming message emanating from everyone who stepped to the podium Monday, from Mazzulla to the players, was that all of them are still coming to grips with the events of the past several days. After Udoka oversaw a dramatic in-season turnaround in his first year as head coach to lead Boston from being under .500 in late January to in the NBA Finals in June, the expectation was that it was the beginning of a long run with him in charge of the franchise.

For the players, that was the case until the middle of last week, as each of them said they had no idea anything was coming before ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news that the team was considering suspending Udoka last Wednesday for violations of team rules. And, even after meeting with the front office and ownership last week, the players admitted they still didn’t have much information over what took place. Sources previously told Wojnarowski that Udoka had an intimate relationship with a female member of the franchise’s staff.

“It’s a lot going on,” said Jaylen Brown, who, like Tatum, said he hadn’t spoken to Udoka since last week’s events took place. “Some we could control, some we couldn’t. The best we can say is to move on.

“Initial reaction, like you said, I was a little confused. No one really has any of the information, so it’s difficult to make a comment on how things were supposed to go and how the process went or anything. The best thing we can do is put our best foot forward.”

And while the players were open about being in the dark over what took place, and where things were headed, they also said they understood how the organization was in a difficult situation, and that the privacy of everyone involved made for a very complicated situation for the Celtics to navigate moving forward.

“Literally no one knows anything right now,” said Marcus Smart, the team’s longest-tenured player and the NBA’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year. “We’re still waiting just like everybody else. So as a player, you’d like to know [more information], but that’s none of our business. It’s their lives, the people that are involved. It’s between them, and we should respect that privacy and we understand, just like we want our privacy respected. Although as a player, yeah, you’d like to know, but like I said, it’s not an obligation.

“Like I said, they handled it the best way they could with how they can do it and from what they know, and we’ve got to just go from there.”

The process of going forward now lies in the hands of Mazzulla, who has skyrocketed from being the head coach at Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia from 2017 to ’19 to now manning the sidelines for the Boston Celtics, the defending Eastern Conference champions and a group that is among the favorites to win it again this season.

But while most of the rest of Udoka’s staff last season was new to the franchise after he took over for Brad Stevens — who himself moved upstairs to serve as the team’s president of basketball operations, replacing Danny Ainge — Mazzulla has been with Boston since 2019, when he was hired by Stevens to be an assistant coach on his staff.

Smart, in particular, highlighted that additional time as a significant help to a team that’s trying to process quite a bit at the moment.

“It helps tremendously,” Smart said. “Like I said, it would’ve been different if we had somebody new that we didn’t know and were trying to build that connection with.

“Joe has been here. He knows the scheme, he knows the players, so it makes it a little bit more easier to adjust to a guy that’s been here and knows you.”

Mazzulla also addressed the two arrests he had back in college while playing for West Virginia University — once, in 2008, for underage drinking and aggravated assault, a case in which he pled guilty and paid a fine, and then in 2009 for domestic battery after an incident at a bar, a case that was settled out of court.

Last week, Stevens said he thoroughly vetted those situations before hiring Mazzulla as part of his staff in 2019, adding that he believed in Mazzulla’s “substantiveness” as a person. For his part, Mazzulla said he has used what he’s learned from those incidents to become a better person since then.

“Listen, I’ve made mistakes. I’m not perfect. I’ve hurt people, and I’ve had to use the situations I put myself in as a younger man, I’ve had to use to learn from and to become a better person. That’s what I’ve tried to focus on.

“How can I recreate my identity on a person? How I can rely on my faith? And how can I have a positive impact on the people around me? And I’ve always had good people around me.”

He declined to get into any specifics about what happened but said, “I’m not the same person that I was.”

“I think as you grow as a person, you’re constantly having to build an identity, and I didn’t have an identity at a certain point in my life, for whatever reason,” Mazzulla said. “I think it’s, ‘How can I develop an identity? How can I find a foundation, which for me is my faith and then how can I impact people positively around me.’ That’s something I really learned throughout my life.”

The Celtics will now attempt to shift their focus to the start of training camp here Tuesday, when they will not only be without Udoka, but both their starting center, Robert Williams III, who is out for another eight to 12 weeks before resuming basketball activities following knee surgery, and top free agent signing Danilo Gallinari, who suffered a torn ACL late last month.

But despite all that’s happened in the past few weeks, it hasn’t diminished the group’s confidence that it can go a step further than it did last season and claim the franchise’s first NBA championship since 2008.

“Can we [win a championship]? Do I believe that? Absolutely,” Tatum said in response to being asked if the team still believes it has what it takes to win a title.

“Absolutely I believe that, and I think everybody else does in that locker room as well.”

Kody Brown Recalls the Moment He Knew Christine Was ‘Serious’ About Leaving Him

Sister Wives: Christine and Kody Brown Discuss Best Way to Tell Other Wives of Their Split

TLC (2)

When Christine Brown told her husband of 26 years Kody Brown that she was walking away from their plural marriage forever, he didn’t believe she would actually leave.

It wasn’t until Christine, 50, refused to post a public nod to their wedding anniversary that he began to take her seriously.

During this week’s episode of Sister Wives, the TLC reality star, 53, opened up about when he realized his wife wasn’t going to change her mind.

On the day of the couple’s wedding anniversary in March 2021, “I asked her if we wanted to post anything on social media,” he told cameras. “In a little way, it was a test, but to protect our kids. And she says, ‘No.’ And that was the first time I’ve ever actually been able to go, ‘Oh, ok wow she’s serious about this.'”

Brown continued: “I think I want to keep testing it though. You never know when she’s just going to realize that the life she’s looking to create somewhere else isn’t going to be any better than what she’s had or got.”

Last November, Christine announced on Instagram that her spiritual marriage to Kody was over. Before their split, she shared a life with her husband and his three wives Meri, Janelle and Robyn in Flagstaff, Arizona. They are parents to son Paedon, 24, and daughters Aspyn, 27; Mykelti, 26; Gwendlyn, 20; Ysabel, 19, and Truely, 12. (Kody has a total of 18 children between the women.)

For Christine, the day they exchanged “I dos” no longer holds meaning. “For our anniversary I’m not going to pretend,” she began.

“I don’t consider myself married to him anymore at all. Six weeks ago we had a conversation. I just said, ‘I need you to let me go. It’s over. I don’t want to be married to you anymore and I’m also going to be moving to Utah,'” she continued. “I don’t know when to have a conversation with my sister wives. I don’t know when to tell Truely. No one really knows the finality of all of this I think.”

One of the many factors that led to the breakdown of their marriage was Kody’s decision to withhold intimacy.

“Intimacy needs trust. Attraction, in my world, needs trust,” he said. “I thought she was being mean. I was angry, it’s like God, man, you’re unwinding plural marriage for me. You’re unwinding my whole life, my whole purpose. No. We’re not having any intimacy until you get this straight. I wish I would have said, ‘We gotta work on somethings.'”

Later in the episode, Kody and the wives have a Facetime call to catch up on family matters since they’ve been isolating due to COVID 10 protocols.

“We’re having this meeting but it seems like she is actually trying to run our meeting,” he said. “Like, she’s trying to take charge of it. She’s getting kind of ‘independent woman’ now. There’s literally an attitude of I don’t need you guys anymore and I don’t have to really submit myself to what the group wants.”
