Viral video captures moment 5-year-old is slapped out of his chair by classmate’s father in China

A 5-year-old boy in eastern China suffered a bruised and swollen face after being slapped by the father of his kindergarten classmate over the weekend.

The incident, which was caught in a now-viral video, occurred in the boy’s home in Nanjing on Saturday, according to local reports.

According to police, the classmate’s 33-year-old father, identified only as Lu, went to the boy’s home to demand an apology after hearing that the boy had hit his son at school earlier in the day.

Later in the conversation, however, Lu slapped the boy in the face, sending him flying off his stool and onto the floor.

The violent moment shook the boy’s 64-year-old grandfather, identified only as Zu, who tried to defend the boy. The senior raised the chair he was sitting on in an alleged attempt to hit Lu.

In response, Lu shoved Zu to the floor. The impact broke the senior’s leg, which then required medical treatment.

The boy’s family reported the incident to the authorities. The following day, Lu was detained on a charge of assault.

An investigation revealed that the kindergarten feud started when the boys fought over a toy in the playground. Zu’s grandson allegedly scratched the back of the head of Lu’s son with the toy, resulting in a cut.

The mother of Zu’s grandson reportedly intended on making her child apologize to Lu’s son later that evening. Both families reportedly live in the same community.

Melissa Towne: Tomball mom accused of stabbing 5-year-old daughter had prior CPS history

TOMBALL, Texas (KTRK) — The 5-year-old girl known as Nichole is seen in pictures always smiling, but the horror she endured is unimaginable.

Her mother, Melissa Towne, is accused of taking her into the woods at Spring Creek Park on Sunday, cutting her neck with a knife, and suffocating her.

In court, it was revealed that when she realized the knife didn’t kill Nichole, she strangled her for more than a half hour.

Nichole put up a fight, and at one point, even pleaded with her mom, saying, “I’ve been good.”

The mother replied, “Stop fighting it,” according to records.

Towne then said she sat on top of her daughter, covered her mouth with her hand, and placed a trash bag over her head. Deputies say she took her to the hospital because she wanted to dispose of her.

According to records, Towne confessed to killing her daughter because she was “evil and didn’t want to deal with her anymore.”

According to family members, Nichole’s father had custody of her.

They sent a statement to Eyewitness News:

“We ask for privacy and respect for Nichole’s father, James, and our family as we all figure out how to grieve her horrible loss and try to figure out how to go on from here. Nichole has grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and a father that all loved her dearly and never thought such a tragic event would happen to such an innocent child. She will always hold a special place in all of our hearts. We will always remember her as the sweetest little girl who never met a stranger. She was so full of love and giggles and her bright blue eyes shined so full of curiosity. We are hoping and praying justice will be served and the heartless monster who took our sweet girl away from us pay for the innocent life she took.”

Child Protective Services confirmed it is investigating, adding that Towne has a prior history with CPS.

A spokesperson said they could not give further details, because CPS investigations are confidential, according to law.

One of Towne’s old neighbors said he had to call the police on her several times.

“We always knew she had mental issues,” Alan Pffar said. “She would have arguments with my mailbox for no reason.”

Pffar added that he even had to put up security cameras because of Towne.

“One time, she was beating up on a car,” Pffar said. “I didn’t realize it was hers. She was hitting it with a baseball bat.”

ONLY ON 13: 5-year-old girl’s aunt wants to know why mom committed alleged killing

Those close to the family tell ABC13 that Nichole and her father lived with his father and stepmother in Magnolia for a period of time. Neighbors who live on the quiet street said they all took turns taking care of Nichole.

“He was asking for help, and anytime we could, we would all help,” a neighbor, who wants to stay anonymous, said. “He loved her. He was the best daddy he could be. We all knew something was wrong, and she wanted good for her baby. We kept her away, and we didn’t want anything to happen to her, so we tried to do the best we could. But I can’t imagine anyone doing that to a child at all, and when you find out it’s someone you know, and especially a sweet little baby, it breaks your heart.”

According to CPS, Towne has three other children between 2 and 18 years old. They are safe and living with other family members.

Nihcole, however, was her father’s only child.

Relatives said he had custody of her since birth. Amber Bradshaw is Nicole’s aunt and was also her nanny for over a year.

“He lived and breathed for her. When it happened, it broke my heart just as much as his, just completely floored me,” Bradshaw told ABC13. “She didn’t deserve this.”

Bradshaw ultimately directed anger at her niece’s mother.

“How dare you? What gives you the right to decide when somebody gets to live and when they don’t? Why is the ultimate thing. I’d just want to ask her why,” she said.

Towne is charged with capital murder and behind bars on a $15 million bond.

Jimmy Kimmel says 5-year-old son Billy ‘has almost no interest’ in learning about his heart surgeries

Jimmy Kimmel is sharing an update on his 5-year-old son Billy’s health following multiple heart surgeries.

On Saturday, Oct. 8, the comedian and his wife, former “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” writer Molly McNearney, spoke about their son while attending the 2022 Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala.

The talk show host, 54, had previously revealed in a monologue on his show in 2017 that Billy was born with serious heart defects and needed to have open-heart surgery at just three days old.

At the gala, Kimmel gushed that Billy is currently “doing great,” People reported.

“He still needs one open-heart surgery, but he’s doing great,” he explained.

Kimmel added that Billy was “one big reason” the couple supports Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Their son was treated for a congenital heart defect called tetralogy of Fallot at the hospital.

“He has no idea what we’re up to (tonight), nor would he care,” the comedian told reporters, laughing. “I tried to explain the heart surgery to him because he has a bit of scar down the center of his chest, and he has almost no interest.”

Kimmel expressed his family’s gratitude for the charity, which he said he and his wife supported before Billy’s surgeries.

“Our son, Billy, had two open-heart surgeries here, he was born with two heart defects, and they fixed them up real good, so we’re very grateful,” he said.

He continued, “We never imagined that this organization that we’d supported financially and by hosting events for them would be a place that we needed to go — so that came as a bit of a shock, but it all worked out.”

The gala — which was held in Santa Monica, Calif. — recognized physicians, researchers and caregivers and the brave children they have healed. Chris and Robert Pine hosted the event and Justin Timberlake performed.

In May 2017, Kimmel shared with his audience that a nurse at Cedars-Sinai had noticed Billy was purple shortly after McNearney gave birth.

The parents later learned that their newborn had “a hole in the wall of the left and right side of his heart” and it was preventing enough oxygen from reaching his blood. The diagnosis meant Billy would need to have multiple surgeries throughout his life.

At the end of his monologue, he encouraged viewers to donate to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to help other children battling life-threatening conditions.

In December 2017, Billy had his second successful heart surgery at 7 months old.

Throughout the years, Kimmel has repeatedly spoken about his son’s health and the importance of healthcare.

While celebrating Billy’s fifth birthday in April, Kimmel thanked the doctors who saved his son’s life.

He uploaded a picture to Instagram of Billy getting ready to blow out the candles on his miniature birthday cake.

“Happy 5th birthday to our little nut,” he began in the sweet caption. “We are eternally grateful to the brilliant doctors and nurses at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai for saving Billy’s life and to those of you whose donations, prayers and positive thoughts meant everything. Please support families who need medical care.”

Kimmel and McNearney also share 8-year-old daughter Jane. Kimmel and his ex-wife Gina Maddy-Kimmel are parents to 31-year-old artist Katie Kimmel and 29-year-old actor Kevin Kimmel as well.

Father in China abandons 5-year-old son at kindergarten following negative paternity test

After discovering that his son was not his biological child, a father in China abandoned a 5-year-old boy at his kindergarten.

The boy, identified by the pseudonym Xiao Rui, was dropped off at school by his father last week in Guangxi province of southern China, reported Jiangxi Morning Daily per South China Morning Post.

Xiao’s father, whose identity remains unknown, purportedly discovered through a paternity test that he was not the boy’s biological father and told staff members that Xiao was now the school’s problem.

Xiao’s teacher, surnamed Chen, stated that his backpack was packed with a change of clothes as well as a mobile phone. After abandoning Xiao, the father purportedly remained in contact with the school but refused to pick up the boy. Chen later stopped by Xiao’s home and discovered it to be empty.

Police contacted Xiao’s grandfather and uncle, who both declined to pick up Xiao. After being left at his kindergarten for five days, the 5-year-old boy is now purportedly being picked up by his biological mother sometime this week.

Weibo users were left outraged, and many expressed sorrow for Xiao.

“He should be playing at his age but now he is like this [and] his life has just begun. He can’t give up, there is really no way,” one user wrote.

Texas 5-year-old shot dead, 8-year-old wounded when mom’s vehicle impacted by gunfire at a stop sign: police

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

A shooting in Houston, Texas, left a 5-year-old dead and an 8-year-old wounded when the vehicle they were riding in came under gunfire as it stopped at an intersection early Sunday morning.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Houston Police Assistant Chief Chandra Hatcher said officers received several phone calls before 1 a.m. about a shooting in the 13300 block of Northborough Drive.

They arrived at the scene but did not see any witnesses, suspects or complainants, Hatcher said.

Further investigation determined a mother was driving in the area with her two kids and had stopped at a stop sign at an intersection when her vehicle came under gunfire.

The woman then “left the location immediately once she realized her children were shot and immediately took them to the hospital,” Hatcher said.

(Houston Police Department)

Approximately 15 minutes after responding to the scene, police received additional phone calls regarding two children arriving at an area hospital with gunshot wounds.

Hatcher said a 5-year-old was shot and died of the injuries, while an 8-year-old also shot is expected to make a full recovery.

“It is unclear if the complainants were the intended targets of the shooting or if there was something else going on in this area at the time,” Hatcher said. “We do not know a motive. We do not have suspect descriptions other than potentially two Black males in a dark-colored vehicle. We are looking for surveillance footage out here and are gathering evidence.”

Based on information from a few witnesses, Hatcher said police believe a dark-colored vehicle, possibly with two occupants, was driving westbound on Rush Street, while the complainant’s vehicle was traveling northbound on Northborough. The occupants of the vehicle driving westbound started discharging a firearm or potentially multiple firearms.

The complainant’s vehicle was stopped at a stop sign at an intersection when it was impacted by the gunshots, Hatcher said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Houston police’s homicide division at 713-308-3600 or crime stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

“At this time, I ask that if anyone knows information, please come forward, and please continue to pray for the family of the deceased child and the injured eight-year-old,” Hatcher said.

Efforts to Rescue 5-Year-Old From Well in Morocco: Live Updates

CAIRO — Rescuers who were racing on Saturday to free a boy trapped in a 100-foot well for four days in northern Morocco said they still held out great hopes of pulling him out alive, though they were not certain of his current condition.

Rescuers have been working day and night to tunnel toward the boy and said they were just a few feet away from reaching him. But rescuers, fearing that either the well or a parallel shaft that was dug to reach him would collapse at any moment, proceeded with extreme caution.

“It’s hard to know his status, but we have great, great, great hope,” said Abdelhadi Temrani, one of the rescuers, noting that the team was providing oxygen around the clock to the boy, Rayan, who is 5. They have also been monitoring him with a camera lowered into the well.

“There is an ambulance and helicopter waiting here to help at the right moment,” Mr. Temrani said. He said the camera showed the boy lying on his side, making it hard to discern his exact condition.

As nightfall began, crowds of people remained at the site, at times erupting into prayers and cheers, shouting, “Live, live, Rayan.” But there was a growing sense of uncertainty that the boy could still come out alive, with conflicting reports about the progress of the rescue operation.

Dozens of police officers lined both sides of a corridor to make way for the rescue and keep back the crowd. All of it was being live streamed, with many at home and abroad glued to their screens.

A state-run television channel posted a short video of the operation on Saturday, showing the workers digging through the tunnel. Officials said that 20 inches separated the rescuers from Rayan, and that they had confronted “big rocks” and areas where the soil collapsed. But they were still hoping to pull him out Saturday.

The operation to save the boy was in what rescuers described as the “decisive phase,” as Moroccans and others across North Africa breathlessly followed the rescue on live streams.

Rayan has been stuck in the well near his home in the tiny village of Ighrane, about 60 miles from the city of Chefchaouen, since Tuesday afternoon. Rescuers brought in bulldozers to dig a parallel shaft from which they could tunnel through to reach the child, but they feared that either part of the well or the parallel shaft would collapse before they could get there.

According to state-run television that had been airing a livestream of the operation, rescuers also appear to have encountered hard rocky barriers that impeded their progress, forcing them to shift course as they dug.

The state-run news agency Maghreb Arabe Presse said the drilling process was in its “final stages.”

According to Le360, a local publication, two rescuers were manually digging the final feet that separated them from Rayan. A helicopter was on the scene to transport the boy to a hospital in one of the major cities.

As rescue workers jockeyed to save the boy on Friday, throngs of people looking on at the site recited prayers and shouted encouragements to the rescue team. Some onlookers sat around or slept under trees, eager to witness the resolution of the crisis.

Rayan’s family made couscous, the traditional Moroccan dish, and served it to people among the crowd. Others distributed bread and dates.

Mr. Temrani, the rescuer, said the effort was a delicate process. Rescuers have been lowering oxygen and water down to the boy using rope and also sent down a camera to monitor him.

On Friday, short videos of the boy, barely moving, were shared in which it appeared that he was still breathing.

The local news media reported that there were five bulldozers and dozens of rescuers, including a team of topographers. The reports said that even a local mountaineering and caving society had gotten involved in the effort.

In an interview with Le360, Rayan’s father said that he had been in the process of fixing the well, which he owns, when his son fell in while playing nearby.

“Everyone is doing their best so that he comes out alive and that we can take him in our arms by the end of the day,” his father said.

The tiny village of Ighrane was overrun with reporters, many of them broadcasting live.

The scenes of bulldozers digging under floodlights while thousands of Moroccans waited in suspense made the Arabic hashtag #SaveRayan a viral rallying cry on Twitter. The hashtag was trending across Morocco and neighboring Algeria, and even in France, where there is a large Moroccan diaspora.

Rescuers in Morocco Race to Save 5-Year-Old Stuck in Well for Days

CAIRO — Rescuers working day and night raced against the clock on Friday to try to save a 5-year-old boy, his face distraught and bloodied, after he was trapped in a 100-foot-deep well in a sleepy Moroccan village for three days.

The operation to save the boy, named Rayan, who fell to the bottom of the well in northern Morocco, reached a critical stage on Friday, as Moroccans and others across North Africa breathlessly followed the rescue on live streams.

Rayan has been stuck in the well near his home in the tiny village of Ighrane, about 125 miles from the city of Chefchaouen, since Tuesday afternoon. Rescuers brought in bulldozers to dig a parallel shaft from which they could tunnel through to reach the child, but they feared that either part of the well or the parallel shaft would collapse before they could get there.

According to the state-run news agency Maghreb Arabe Presse, the drilling process was in its “final stages.” The operation was temporarily paused around nightfall on Friday, but rescuers resumed digging once it was deemed safe to proceed.

According to Le360, a local publication, two rescuers were manually digging the final inches that separated them from Rayan. A helicopter was on the scene to transport Rayan to a hospital in one of the major cities as soon as he emerged.

As rescue workers jockeyed to save the boy, throngs of people looking on at the site recited prayers and shouted encouragements to the rescue team. Some onlookers sat around or slept under trees, eager to witness the resolution of the crisis. Rayan’s family made couscous, the traditional Moroccan dish, and served it to people among the crowd. Others distributed bread and dates.

Abdelhadi Temrani, one of the rescuers, said the effort was a very delicate process.

“This stage is the most important and most complicated one,” he said. “You can’t sacrifice a team if there is a chance of collapse,” he added, explaining that the rescuers could not send anyone down to start digging across until they had secured the parallel shaft.

Using rope, rescue workers on Thursday had lowered an oxygen tube and water to the boy, and also sent down a camera to monitor him, according to Maghreb Arabe Presse.

Short videos of the boy, barely moving, were shared in which he appeared to still be breathing.

Local media reported that there were five bulldozers and dozens of rescuers, including a team of topographers, involved in the effort. The reports said that even a local mountaineering and caving society was taking part.

The rescue efforts were complicated by the nature of the soil in the area, which is a mix of unstable sand and rock, according to local authorities.

Over the past three days, digging had to be suspended several times to avoid a landslide. As the workers drew closer, each scoop of dirt needed to be dug out with extra care.

In an interview with Le360, Rayan’s father said that he had been in the process of fixing the well, which he owns, when his son fell in.

“Everyone is doing their best so that he comes out alive and that we can take him in our arms by the end of the day,” he said.

As rescuers struggled to reach the boy, people in the region were glued to the operation on television and online, eager for some good news at a time when many have been buffeted by Covid pandemic gloom.

“I pray and beg God that he comes out of that well alive and safe,” his mother, Wassima Kharchich, told 2M, a Moroccan television network. “Please God, ease my pain and his, in that hole of dust.”

And the rescue effort has proved to be something of a unifying moment for the people of Morocco and Algeria, which have been locked in a feud that some analysts have called a regional cold war. It has dampened the tensions between the two North African countries, as Algerians have flooded social media with messages of solidarity and encouragement for the rescuers.

“Oh, Lord, show us the miracle of your kindness,” the well-known Algerian novelist Ahlam Mostghanmi wrote on Twitter, reposting an image of Rayan. She was among many Algerians who rallied to the hashtag #SaveRayan, including soccer stars, singers and political commentators, as well as ordinary Algerians.

As neighbors in the Maghreb, the Francophone western swath of North Africa along the Mediterranean, Algerians and Moroccans share similar dialects and cross-border family and cultural ties. But their history has been marked by diplomatic spats and military clashes.

In recent years, Morocco has accused Algeria of supporting a separatist group, the Polisario Front, which is contesting Morocco’s territorial claim to a region in the Western Sahara.

5-year-old Minnesota boy fatally shot on Thanksgiving by teen making video

A 5-year-old Minnesota boy was fatally shot on Thanksgiving by a 13-year-old handling a gun while making a social media video, police said.

Officers with the Brooklyn Park Police Department were called to a home on Thursday at 10:19 p.m. and found the 5-year-old shot, according to a statement from the department. The officers attempted to render first aid, but the child died at the scene.

Investigators believe the 13-year-old boy accidentally fired the gun while he and several other kids were making a social media video.

Brooklyn Park Police Deputy Chief Mark Bruley told CBS Minnesota station WCCO that adults were home at the time of the shooting, and it’s not clear how the kids got to the weapon.

“Lock them [firearms] up and lock the ammo up separate. We, as adults, it’s our obligation to make sure that they [children] don’t have access to them,” Bruley said.

The 13-year-old was arrested and is being held at Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. He could be charged with manslaughter.

The owner of the gun could also face charges, police told WCCO.

Brooklyn Park is about 11 miles north of Minneapolis.

Amber Alert Ohio: Ana Grace Burke found in Bloomington, Illinois after police say 5-year-old girl abducted by neighbor

An Amber Alert issued in Ohio has been canceled after 5-year-old Ana Grace Burke was found safe in Bloomington, Illinois late Friday.

Investigators said Ana Grace Burke was abducted by a 36-year-old acquaintance of her family named Jonathan Lee Stinnett. He is now in custody and under arrest, authorities said.

Investigators have not provided additional details.

Police said the girl had permission to be with Stinnett and a woman Thursday. They went to a Goodwill store and then took the girl to a McDonald’s to use the bathroom.

But around 6:15 p.m. Thursday, police said he and Ana got into a silver 1991 Ford Aerostar with Michigan plates.

SEE ALSO | Missing baby, kidnapped in stolen SUV, found safe, reunited with mom: ‘I instantly started crying’

Finding Ana was the top priority for Jackson Township Police Major Jim Monigold, who feared the girl could be in danger.
“Because she’s 5 years old, she’s been away from her family and for an unaccounted amount of time with no idea where she is. That’s that makes me concerned for her well-being,” Monigold told ABC affiliate WEWS.

Police said Ana was supposed to be returned to her home in the Quail Hollow Apartments. But when that didn’t happen, her worried mother called 911 trying to piece together what happened.

“It’s been like over an hour and he hasn’t showed back up to Goodwill with my daughter,” she told a 911 dispatcher.

According to the Ohio State Patrol, an Amber Alert was not issued for Ana Thursday night because there was no immediate credible threat of injury or death to the child.

“We were told that one of the key criteria at that time was that there were no immediate threats to the child due to the fact that they were with somebody they were permitted to be with,” Monigold said.
The Amber Alert was issued Friday. Investigators received a tip Friday night that a vehicle matching the description was seen in Indiana.

The FBI has sent agents to the Jackson Township police department to assist in the investigation.

Anyone who may have seen these individuals should contact the Jackson Township Police Department at 330-834-3960 or the Regional Emergency Dispatch Center at 330-837-9346.
