World Cup live scores, updates: Spain vs. Germany; FIFA World Cup 2022 bracket, schedule, standings

Day 8 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is off and running and it started with a surprising 1-0 win for Costa Rica against Japan. After an incredible 2-1 win against Germany, Japan lost against the team that lost 7-0 their opening game against Spain.

That was followed by another surprise result in the 8 a.m. ET kick-off as Morocco deservedly beat Belgium 2-0 to really give themselves a good chance of emerging from Group F. At 11 a.m. Alphonso Davies scored Canada’s first goal at a men’s World Cup also netting the fastest goal in this tournament less than two minutes into the match but it wasn’t enough as they fell 4-1 to Croatia. With the loss, Canada are eliminated from contention for the round of 16 while Croatia will go atop Group F, ahead of Morocco on goal difference.

At 2 p.m. Germany will play against Spain in what could be the most important clash of the group stages although thanks to Costa Rica’s win, Germany could still lose to Spain and have their hopes alive in the last match against Costa Rica on Thursday.
