USFL scores, updates: Live results, analysis as Stars and Breakers face off in Game 2 of Sunday tripleheader

The USFL has taken over the schedule on Easter Sunday as the Philadelphia Stars and New Orleans Breakers have kicked off the second game of the three-game tripleheader on opening weekend in Birmingham, Alabama. The Stars are quarterbacked by Brian Scott and the Breakers by Kyle Sloter.

This matchup isn’t for division bragging rights, even though both teams wanted to start the season off on a high note. New Orleans’ Davin Bellamy figures to be a difference-maker in this game, as he was the first edge rusher selected in the USFL Draft back in February. The Stars are expected to be one of the faster teams in the league, so there’s the potential for Philadelphia to put points on the board.

With the NFL readying for the 2022 draft in Las Vegas and football fans thirsty for a viable spring league, the USFL is hoping it can become a mainstay in the lives of those who crave the gridiron and don’t want an offseason from it. If that’s you, and it likely is, strap on your seatbelt — we’ve already seen a thriller in the Birmingham Stallions’ win in the season opener on Saturday night, and Sunday’s first game was also a thriller, as the Houston Gamblers narrowly held off a furious comeback by the Michigan Panthers, whose would-be TD on the final play was juggled incomplete in the end zone.

Here’s a look at the scores so far as the Stars and Breakers are underway:

SATURDAY
Birmingham Stallions 28, New Jersey Generals 24
SUNDAY
Houston Gamblers 17, Michigan Panthers 12 (final)
New Orleans Breakers 9, Philadelphia Stars 0 (second quarter)
Tampa Bay Bandits vs. Pittsburgh Maulers, 9 p.m. ET, FS1, fuboTV.
