The Open 2022 live scoreboard with Rory McIlroy in contention at St Andrews

Is Tiger Woods Capable Of Winning The Open Championship?

Australian Cameron Smith made a fast start on Friday and never looked back to lead The Open on -13 after the second round.

But Tiger Woods waved goodbye to St Andrews, missing the cut after unravelling once more to sit nine-over-par.

But Rory McIlroy is still in the hunt after finishing with a 68 to sit three behind Smith on -10 at the Old Course.

Overnight leader Cameron Young is on -11, but Aussie Smith is already at -13, a score that would win him 10 of the 15 Open Championships that have ever been held at St Andrews.

Competition comes in the shame of world number one Scottie Scheffler and Briton Tyrrell Hatton.

Cameron Smith planning Peaky Blinders binge after record-breaking day at Open

Cameron Smith made plans to binge-watch Peaky Blinders late into the night after putting himself into a strong position to win the Open on Friday.

The Australian shot an eight-under-par second-round 64 at St Andrews to reach the halfway point of the final major of the year on 13 under.

His 36-hole aggregate of 131 was a new record for an Open at the Home of Golf.

Smith has relaxed away from the Old Course this week by watching episodes of the hit British gangster drama and, with a late start now guaranteed on Saturday, he sees no reason to change.

“I’m watching Peaky Blinders at the moment,” said the 28-year-old, whose round included six birdies and an eagle at the par-five 14th.

Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris hit by untimely bogeys

Setbacks for both Will Zalatoris (-3) and Justin Thomas (-2) with bogeys at 14 and 15 respectively.

They’ve battled hard after tough starts on Thursday, but not only do they both make the weekend, but a big push tomorrow might catapult them into contention Sunday.

Sure, it’ll take two very low rounds, but they remain alive.
