Match report: Porto 2-1 Juventus
Juventus grabbed a late away goal their poor performance barely deserved on an entertaining night in Porto.
17:43
Sergio Conceicao speaks: “We didn’t score by chance,” the Porto coach tells Eleven Sports. “Our pressure worked. The players perfectly interpreted what we wanted. We have always remained very organised, whether in a higher block or a lower block. The players had a fantastic game. Congratulations to them – they were the great workers of this win.”
17:27
Andrea Pirlo speaks: “It’s not easy to react when you concede such a goal after one minute,” says Juver’s coach. “Players lost confidence and this influenced their performance for several minutes. Fortunately we scored an important goal through Chiesa and now we will focus on the return leg.”
17:25
Pepe speaks: “We studied Juventus well,” says Porto’s captain. “The team assimilated very well what the coach asked. We knew that we had to press hard to keep Juventus from playing. In these type of games it’s difficult to concede goals at home, but we played a great game.”
17:15
Federico Chiesa speaks: “Our approach was bad and the game became even more difficult for us after that early goal,” he tells Eleven Sports. “When you are not fully focused and when you don’t give your very best, [teams can] punish you at this level.”

At the final whistle: Several Juventus players surrounded match referee Carlos del Carro, asking in the strongest possible terms why he didn’t award them a penalty for Sanusi’s challenge on Ronaldo late in the game. My read, for what it’s worth, is that Ronaldo was attempting a Cruyff turn in the penalty area, lost his balance and Sanusi just ran into him as he was falling. Ergo, no penalty. However, I would not have been in the least bit surprised if it had been given and I’m surprised Senor Del Carro didn’t at least have a look at his pitchside monitor.

Some post-match reflections: Porto will be delighted with their first ever win over Juventus … of course they will. However, their enjoyment of the occasion will be tempered by the knowledge that they could and should have won by a lot more. The Italian champions stank Estadio do Dragao out tonight and were a pale imitation of themselves. They’ll be mightily relieved to have escaped with just a 2-1 defeat and the away goal that came with it on the back of such a truly dismal performance.

Full time: Porto 2-1 Juventus
Peep! Peep! Peeeeeeep! It’s all over in Porto, where the home side have won by the odd goal of three.
16:55
90+3 min: A late onslaught from Juventus. Cristiano Ronaldo appeals for a penalty after going down in a heap under a shove from Zaido Sanusi as he tried to control a long ball over the top from De Ligt. There’s no doubt he got a shove but he was already going to ground when it came.
16:52
90+2 min: Alex Sandro takes one for the team, fouling Mehdi Taremi as the striker bore down on the Juve penalty area. It’s only a booking because Matthijs De Ligt was nearby. From the free-kick, Szczesny drops the ball but gets away with it.
16:50
90+1 min: Porto bring on two more subs in a bid to run down the clock, their manager’s son Francisco among them.
16:49
89 min: There’s no such thing as a bad win against Juventus, but if it stays like this Porto will be disappointed they conceded an away goal. The Italian side were so unspeakably bad for most of tonight’s match, they could have no complaints if they left Estadio do Dragao on the wrong end of a hiding. As things stand, they’ll consider this a terrific result. Pirlo’s substitutions saved his side’s bacon.
16:46
87 min: Porto go close as Mateus Uribe dinks the ball over a Juve defender onto the chest of Taremi. Before he’s able to pull the trigger from four or five yards out, the ball is put out for a corner by De Ligt. Nothing comes of the set piece.

85 min: Ronaldo curls a cross from the left towards the far post and then gesticulates angrily upon discovering there’s nobody there to try to head the ball home.

GOAL! Porto 2-1 Juventus (Chiesa 82)
Juventus pull one back. Adrien Rabiot runs in behind the Porto defence and pulls the ball back into their penalty area. Federico Chiesa meets it first time about 14 yards from goal, stabbing the ball into the ground and wheeling away in celebration as it bounces up and past Marchesin.

81 min: From a Porto corner, Marco Grujic gets his head to to Oliveira’s delivery at the far post but steers his effort wide. That was a good chance!
16:39
79 min: Spotting Marchesin four or five yards off his line, Morata kicks the ball as high as he can towards goal. It’s an audacious effort and the ball drops on to the roof of the net, but the goalkeeper had it covered.
16:37
77 min: Alvaro Morata is played in behind the Porto defence and brings a smart save out of Marchesin. He was offside.

75 min: Alvaro Morata appeals for a penalty after being dispossessed by Chancel Mbemba, who was ungainly but didn’t break any laws. The Spaniard has to settle for a corner instead.
16:32
73 min: Bentancur slides in to deny Uribe the opportunity to send a cross into the Juve penalty. From the ensuing corner, Sergio Oliveira’s corner is cleared at the near post.
16:30
71 min: Good work from Ronaldo, who gallops down the left flank before drilling a low cross towards Chiesa. His shot is saved by Agustin Marchesin, but the flag goes up. Alvaro Morata was offside as he lurked hoping to pounce on any football-shaped and sized crumbs dropped from Marchesin’s table.

16:28
68 min: Enterprising stuff from Jesus Corona, who standing with his back to the Juve goal about 20 yards out, flicks the ball up in the air to set up his own acrobatic bicycle kick. His effort is tipped over the bar by Szczesny but wouldn’t have counted if it had gone in. The referee had spotted some infringement or other.
16:26
67 min: Porto substitution: Moussa Marega, who scored Porto’s second goal after 20 seconds of the second half, goes off. He’s replaced by Marco Grujic, the Serbian midfielder on loan at Porto from Liverpool.
16:25
66 min: Rodrigo Bentancur tries his luck with a shot from distance. He used hardly any backlift but spanked the ball with venom. Over the bar, but not by much.
16:23
65 min: Morata gets the ball and drives forward, only to be fouled by Mateus Uribe.
16:22
64 min: Juventus substitution: Alvaro Morata on for Weston McKinnie.

16:22
62 min: Matthijs De Ligt gets booked retrospectively for a foul he committed at the beginning of my entry on 59 minutes. The referee had played advantage at the time.
16:16
57 min: Now Kulusevski is penalised for controlling the ball with his hand and Porto use the break in play to make a substitution. Luis Diaz replaces Otavio.
16:15
56 min: Dejan Kulusevski has a half-chance cut out by Merih Demiral and it’s about all Juventus have had by way of a chance so far in this half.

16:12
52 min: Sergio Oliveira pops up in the penalty area at the other end of the field, bringing a smart one-handed save out of Wojciech Szczesny, who looked slightly bamboozled and had to shift his weight from one foot to the other to reach the ball. Perhaps the shot took a deflection – Juventus are getting pummeled here.
16:10
50 min: Juventus win a corner and the ball is flicked on at the near post by Sandro. Sergio Oliveira hacks clear.
16:08
48 min: Porto galloped upfield from the kick off and the ball was pulled back to Marega in the penalty area from the byline. His first touch was sublime and took him away from the Federico Chiesa before he slotted a fairly tame shot into the corner past Szczesny, who was beaten at his near post.

Hells bells! That is ridiculous – another great start for Porto, as Moussa Marega slots the ball into the corner after 20 seconds of the second half.

Second half: Porto 1-0 Juventus
46 min: Play redsumes with no changes in personnel on either side. I am surprised that Alvaro Morata hasn’t been sent out to bat by Pirlo, as Dejan Kusulevski has hardly had a kick.
15:49
Half-time: FC Porto 1-0 Juventus
Peep! That’s your lot for the first half, which got off to the worst possible start for Juventus when Mehdi Taremi pounced on a Rodrigo Bentancur error to nick an opportunist goal. Juve have been surprisingly sluggish and already look genuinely berfeft of ideas. I suspect we’ll see a change or two from Andrea Pirlo before too long. It’s been so comfortable for Porto, whose defence has looked remarkably assured.
15:46
45+1 min: Ronaldo tries to run into the Porto penalty area from the left but is crowded off the ball.
15:45
45 min: Ronaldo wins his team a corner after one such excursion. Bentancur’s delivery is headed clear, despite Ronaldo’s best efforts to get to the ball.
15:44
44 min: We’re almost at the break and Cristiano Ronaldo has had just one touch in the Porto penalty area. He’s getting frustrated too, dropping deeper and deeper in a bid to get more time on the ball.
15:43
41 min: Another free-kick, from the same area. The ball is sent towards the far post again and breaks to Adrien Rabiot, whose overhead kick is saved by Marchesin, who bats it clear. It was a spectacular looking effort but lacked real venom. It was also Juve’s first shot on target.
15:40
40 min: Juve free-kick, wide on the right after a Sergio Oliveira foul on Matthijs De Ligt. Bentancur finally gets one right and picks out Cristiano Ronaldo at the far post. His downwards header doesn’t trouble Marchesin.
