He hasn’t practiced well, but you could see how good his feet are in that game. He has legit talent, making his struggles all the more frustrating. There are a few teams with LT issues that should be interested in taking a chance on him. The Eagles won’t get good value, but with Mailata as the starter and Toth as a backup, they have OT flexibilty.

I would far, far, far rather risk losing out on Watson than trade for him now, with so much unknown, and with the future being dangerously murky. Daniel Jones — The third-year quarterback did a lot of good things Sunday. He completed 17 of 22 passes. He threw a beautiful 23-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Smith. He scrambled for a first down right before the touchdown throw. He threw a perfect third-and-13 strike to Darius Slayton, that Slayton declined to catch. And then … and then … and then there was the single play that was all too reminiscent of the kinds of plays that bedeviled Jones a year ago. With a third-and-goal inside the 1-yard line, Jones rolled right and threw a pass well behind tight end Evan Engram that was intercepted by D’Angelo Ross of New England. Maybe Jones expected Engram to stop running. Whatever. Those are the kinds of plays winning quarterbacks just can’t — and don’t — make.

Restart. The Giants didn’t play all their offensive starters in the preseason finale, just the ones they seem to have the most questions about. Sunday’s answers weren’t particularly encouraging. Daniel Jones was picked off in the Patriots’ end zone and nearly again on a subsequent drive. He did rally by leading a textbook touchdown drive to close out the first half. But too often over five series, the third-year QB was indecisive when looking past his first read. That sometimes wasn’t an option, as left tackle Andrew Thomas struggled to protect Jones’ blind side, allowing two sacks and drawing a holding call. New York has to be concerned about the No. 4 pick of the 2020 draft, especially after an uneven rookie campaign. Nate Solder, once the team’s prized free-agent signing who opted out of last season, didn’t fare much better on the right side.

Loser: Kelvin Joseph. It’s hard to put Joseph on here given that he suffered a groin injury that took him out of the game (we’ll see how that situation progresses), but before that it wasn’t very good anyway. Prior to the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals there was chatter that Joseph could be in the mix to be a starter at cornerback. We have not seen anything at all to justify that idea. It is unfortunate for Joseph that many will unfairly compare him to or expect performances similar to the likes of Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn given that Dallas missed out on those top cornerbacks in the draft. But he has a lot of work to do.
