NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles fielding calls about offensive line and linebackers

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Why You’re Hearing More Deshaun Watson Trade Rumors Now – MMQB
The Eagles are another team taking calls on offensive linemen—their issues of the last few years staying healthy up front have actually created a situation where they have experienced backups. Philly’s also discussed dealing away some linebacker depth.

6 things to know about new Eagles quarterback Gardner Minshew – BGN Radio
I think for right now, Minshew’s best role is probably as a No. 2 quarterback — and he should be considered as one of the top backup quarterbacks in the league. With that said, he has proven plenty of times that he is capable of starting at the NFL level. Keep in mind, he didn’t have much talent around him to work with in Jacksonville, and in the right system, with the right personnel and coaches to work with, I would not rule out Minshew becoming a starter again one day. He is definitely going to earn respect from his coaches and teammates, and Meyer was certainly impressed by him…just not enough to beat out Lawrence.

Final Eagles 53-man predictions + Door closed on Deshaun Watson trade – BGN Radio
Final prediction time! Brandon Lee Gowton and Jimmy Kempski run through their 53-man roster predictions before Tuesday deadline for NFL roster cuts.

Roster Prediction – Iggles Blitz
I’m guessing Dillard and Ertz get traded, but that could take a few days. Teams want to make moves and see what else is out there. Dillard played well against the Jets and showed his raw ability. He hasn’t practiced well, but you could see how good his feet are in that game. He has legit talent, making his struggles all the more frustrating. There are a few teams with LT issues that should be interested in taking a chance on him. The Eagles won’t get good value, but with Mailata as the starter and Toth as a backup, they have OT flexibilty.

NFL DFS: Week 1 Stacks to Target On DraftKings – DraftKings Nation
While Jalen Hurts has to develop as a passer, what makes him such an intriguing quarterback in fantasy football is his ability to run the ball. One player who should aid Hurts in improving through the air is rookie first-round pick, DeVonta Smith. The reigning Heisman winner is expected to leap to No. 1 wide receiver status on the Eagles in his first season. Smith’s ability to create separation is much better than the other wideouts on the roster, making him someone that Hurts is going to like immediately. For a cheap price of $4,500, you can stack Smith with Hurts against a below-average secondary of the Falcons. This may be one of the only weeks we get Smith for under $5,000 if he performs well in Week 1.

10 Gardner Minshew stats that might shock you – NBCSP
2. Minshew’s career interception ratio of one every 72.5 attempts is 3rd-best in NFL history among quarterbacks who’ve thrown at least 500 passes. He trails Jacoby Brissett [one every 75.6 attempts] and Aaron Rodgers [one every 74.0].

Big Cat Country Q&A: We traded Gardner Minshew… now what? – Big Cat Country
Q: A sixth round pick for Gardner Minshew? Really? A: Really. We probably over inflate Gardner Minshew’s value (slightly) because of the memories he gave us and the fact that for several weeks during that 2019 NFL season he put the team on his back. And because of the jorts. The best this team could realistically get for him (without some franchise going wild) was always going to be a Day 3 pick. He’s a good backup quarterback. He’s not a starting caliber quarterback. And with the offense Urban Meyer wants to install here in Jacksonville — run heavy, vertical passing — C.J. Beathard is a better QB2. So long, Gardner. You were fun as hell. I’ll miss you.

Sam Tevi tears ACL in Colts’ preseason finale, out for season – Stampede Blue
Tevi was brutal during training camp practice at Grand Park, continuously being beaten like a drum by the Colts’ pass rushers. This forced Indianapolis to move Tevi to right tackle, and the results weren’t any different. Against the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit, Tevi was getting pummeled by practice squad pass rushers. Unlikely to even make the final roster, Tevi was on the outside looking in for a roster spot. After sustaining a torn ACL, the expectation should be that Tevi reaches an injury settlement with the team. [BLG Note: People have suggested the Colts could trade for Andre Dillard but it might be more likely they look into bringing back Le’Raven Clark. Especially if the veteran tackle gets cut.]

Irv Smith Jr. to miss start of season following meniscus surgery – Daily Norseman
This puts the team in a bit of a bind at the tight end position with final cuts coming on Tuesday. The #2 tight end, Tyler Conklin, has missed much of the preseason with injury issues of his own. Outside of Smith and Conklin, the depth chart for the Vikings at tight end consists of third-year player Brandon Dillon, 2021 fifth-round pick Zach Davidson, and undrafted rookie free agent Shane Zylstra. That’s not a good thing for an offense that, at least last season, played more two-tight end sets than any other offense in the NFL. [BLG Note: Zach Ertz to the Vikings? Sam Bradford trade redux?]

Baltimore Is Built To Last, But Reality Hits Hard After Injury; Camp Snapshots After One Month On Road – FMIA
I would far, far, far rather risk losing out on Watson than trade for him now, with so much unknown, and with the future being dangerously murky. With all that being said, desperate teams do desperate things. I doubt anything happens with Watson, but then again I’m not inside the walls of the Dolphins, Eagles, Panthers or Broncos either.

Texans playing “chicken” with possible trade of Deshaun Watson, who is hoping for a trade – PFT
The Texans want what they want in a potential trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson. If they don’t get it, they’ll be paying him $10.54 million for 2021. As one league source described it on Sunday, Houston are playing a game of “chicken” regarding a potential Watson trade. If no one blinks, and if the Texans don’t reduce their demands, they’ll be stuck paying him to not play this season.

Giants-Patriots ‘Kudos & Wet Willies’ review – Big Blue View
Daniel Jones — The third-year quarterback did a lot of good things Sunday. He completed 17 of 22 passes. He threw a beautiful 23-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Smith. He scrambled for a first down right before the touchdown throw. He threw a perfect third-and-13 strike to Darius Slayton, that Slayton declined to catch. And then … and then … and then there was the single play that was all too reminiscent of the kinds of plays that bedeviled Jones a year ago. With a third-and-goal inside the 1-yard line, Jones rolled right and threw a pass well behind tight end Evan Engram that was intercepted by D’Angelo Ross of New England. Maybe Jones expected Engram to stop running. Whatever. Those are the kinds of plays winning quarterbacks just can’t — and don’t — make.

2021 NFL preseason, Week 3: What we learned from Sunday’s games – NFL.com
Restart. The Giants didn’t play all their offensive starters in the preseason finale, just the ones they seem to have the most questions about. Sunday’s answers weren’t particularly encouraging. Daniel Jones was picked off in the Patriots’ end zone and nearly again on a subsequent drive. He did rally by leading a textbook touchdown drive to close out the first half. But too often over five series, the third-year QB was indecisive when looking past his first read. That sometimes wasn’t an option, as left tackle Andrew Thomas struggled to protect Jones’ blind side, allowing two sacks and drawing a holding call. New York has to be concerned about the No. 4 pick of the 2020 draft, especially after an uneven rookie campaign. Nate Solder, once the team’s prized free-agent signing who opted out of last season, didn’t fare much better on the right side.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: Winners, losers, and honorable mentions – Blogging The Boys
Loser: Kelvin Joseph. It’s hard to put Joseph on here given that he suffered a groin injury that took him out of the game (we’ll see how that situation progresses), but before that it wasn’t very good anyway. Prior to the preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals there was chatter that Joseph could be in the mix to be a starter at cornerback. We have not seen anything at all to justify that idea. It is unfortunate for Joseph that many will unfairly compare him to or expect performances similar to the likes of Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn given that Dallas missed out on those top cornerbacks in the draft. But he has a lot of work to do.

Observations From Washington’s Preseason Finale Against Baltimore – Hogs Haven
Special Teams: Tress way was easily our best player in Saturday’s game. Dustin Hopkins is still; how should I say it – Dustin Hopkins…with head-scratching plays where he looks like he he shouldn’t even be in the league.
