And that’s exactly what Kyle Brandt reported Tuesday morning on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football about the Eagles and a very intriguing wide receiver prospect. Here’s what Brandt reported about LSU wideout Terrace Marshall Jr.: “This guy’s 6-3, he catches 10 touchdowns in seven games before opting out for the rest of the season. You think they have all these guys, and they do. This is another one, a big, explosive playmaker they can go after. He’s been talking to the Eagles a lot, so we’ll see.” Very interesting! By trading down out of the No. 6 pick, the Eagles effectively took themselves out of the running for fellow LSU wideout and likely Top 6 pick Ja’Marr Chase. They also at least somewhat hurt their chances at picking one of Alabama’s wide receiver duo in Devonta Smith or Jaylen Waddle.

See, I think if we’re going for the prototypical Howie Roseman move, it’s Miami’s Gregory Rousseau. I wouldn’t call “low production” a Howie hallmark. Think about how often we heard about Derek Barnett breaking Reggie White’s sack record at Tennessee despite his piss-poor athletic testing at the combine. They drafted Donnel Pumphrey, a guy who ultimately never took a snap in the NFL, and he’s the all-time NCAA Division I FBS leader in rushing yards. Rousseau sat out the 2020 season, so his stock has tanked a bit, so that’s where the Howie “smartest guy in the room” mentality comes pops up. “People forget about the 2019 college season” is the new “other teams don’t stay up late to watch PAC-12 games.” He’s young for his class, as he just turned 21 on April 5, much like Barnett was quite young for his draft class and is still somehow only 24 (he turns 25 on June 25). Going back to production, the guy BALLED OUT at The U as a redshirt freshman in 2019, totaling 19.5 tackles for loss and a whopping 15.5 sacks. It isn’t a particularly strong EDGE group this year, but if we’re getting a standard Howie pick at 1-12, I think it’d be Rousseau and I’d be okay with it (assuming both Alabama receivers are gone).

The Philadelphia Eagles trade their quarterbacks. A lot. But it had been a while since they dealt an unhappy Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in February. The most recently traded Eagles quarterback was the one who made way for Wentz, Sam Bradford, AKA Sleeves, AKA Sammy Sleeves, AKA Sleevie Wonder, in 2016. Let’s take a trip down memory lane, and look at how those quarterbacks fared with their new teams. Spoiler: Badly. That’s not to say that the Eagles exactly got over on all their trading partners, as the players they drafted with the acquired picks in those trades haven’t exactly lit the world on fire either.

I don’t think the Eagles will go OT, but we can’t rule it out. Slater, Sewell and Vera-Tucker are all terrific prospects. The Eagles OL might actually be the strength of the team, though. With so many other holes to fill, going elsewhere would make more sense. Lane Johnson isn’t getting any younger so you could always look at the pick as being about the future. I’m just thinking 12 will be something other than OL. I do wonder what will happen if Chase falls a few spots. How much do the Eagles like him? We know Howie isn’t afraid to make trades, up and down the draft. A less likely scenario would be moving back, but anything is possible. That would make sense if the Eagles targets were gone and they felt the best value was moving back a few spots.

Why? It’s clear that the Eagles are eating their vegetables in 2021 in the hopes of getting to enjoy some cake next year. Trading Wentz forced them to absorb a mammoth dead cap figure of $33.8 million; releasing Jackson and eventually adding Jeffery to the pile will push Philly north of $40 million in dead money this season. If it finds a trade partner for Ertz before June 1, that number might come close to $50 million. Next year, though, the Eagles are projected with nearly $32 million in cap space. They could have as many as three first-round picks after trading down with the Dolphins while getting a conditional pick back from the Colts. If Jalen Hurts plays well as the starter in 2021, great! They have their quarterback of the future and all those first-rounders to build around him in 2022. If he struggles, well, they will pick high in the 2022 draft and have two stellar picks to try to use if they need to trade up further.

NFL supplement allows Eagles’ Alex Singleton to nearly double 2020 pay — but the cash is deferred – Inquirer
In the final season of a two-year, $1.08 million contract, Singleton was quite a bargain for Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. But the NFL has a formula that awards performance-based pay, out of a pool set last year at $8.5 million per team. The NFL Players Association released the 2020 figures from that system on Tuesday, and Singleton was the Eagles’ top earner, gaining an extra $464,296. There’s a catch, though — as part of the COVID-19 agreements between the league and the union, to lessen the one-year coronavirus impact on salaries, the performance-based money won’t be paid before 2024, the union estimates. So Singleton has something to look forward to.

Daniel Jeremiah mock draft 3.0: DeVonta Smith still the pick for the Giants – Big Blue View
I’ll do my best to be brief with this because, frankly, Jeremiah isn’t breaking any new ground with this pick. I don’t dispute that Smith was fantastically productive for Alabama and is a great route runner, and that should allow him to be productive right away in the right situation. But I’m still skeptical of him for the Giants in particular and the NFL in general. While I’m not fond of offering pro comparisons for college prospects, they are sometimes an apt shorthand for describing traits. And the player I see in DeVonta Smith is a young Golden Tate coming out of Notre Dame — had he been allowed to play in a modern Spread Coast offense with Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones instead of Jimmy Clausen.

K.J. Wright, Richard Sherman among top free agents the Cowboys could still pursue – Blogging The Boys
There hasn’t been much to report on the Sherman market. He seems content to wait until a team and a deal come together to his liking. The odds may be long, but if the Cowboys could bring in a couple of veterans like Wright and Sherman, the perception of their free agency would be changed.

NFL: We are monitoring “deeply disturbing” allegations against Deshaun Watson – PFT
The first woman to file a lawsuit accusing Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault revealed her identity and spoke to the media at a press conference with lawyer Tony Buzbee on Tuesday. Ashley Solis called herself “a survivor of assault and harassment” at the hands of Watson, who faces 21 other civil lawsuits alleging similar behavior during massages with female masseuses. Watson is also the subject of a criminal investigation by the Houston Police Department. The NFL did not comment on the start of that investigation, but NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy did issue a comment on Tuesday.

NFL Draft rumor: Terry Fontenot wants to draft QB, Arthur Smith thinks Matt Ryan has 2+ years left – The Falcoholic
The lead up to the 2021 NFL Draft is exciting and ever-changing, with opinions and reports . The rumor mill has been very busy of late, and it seems we get a new rumor by the day. It’s understandable as the Falcons have a new regime who not only has a former league MVP at the quarterback position, but also a top-5 selection in the upcoming draft. The latest rumor comes by way of ESPN Insider Chris Mortensen, who appeared on the network’s most recent draft special. When they got to the Falcons pick, Mortensen shared what he’s heard the Falcons’ plans might be at the end of the month. What I’m hearing is that [Terry] Fontenot is more focused on quarterback, and Arthur Smith believes that Matt Ryan does have two or more years left. He has no real medical history, he hasn’t missed many games in his career and there hasn’t been a big drop off in his play.
