Jadon Sancho: Manchester United agree transfer from Borussia Dortmund

What do I need to know?

Dortmund had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sancho and told the forward he would be allowed to leave this summer if a club meets his valuation.

The Athletic understands Manchester United have now met that price.

Sancho will undergo a medical ahead of his official unveiling as a Manchester United player.

The Athletic understands that Sancho, who is currently on international duty with England at Euro 2020, has already started the process of finding a house in the Manchester area.

How well has he done at Dortmund?

He has done incredibly well since moving to Dortmund from Manchester City in the summer of 2017.

He has scored 50 goals in 137 appearances for the German heavyweights, and helped them win the German Cup last season.

He also finished the 2020-21 season on a hot streak of 13 goals in his last 21 games.

Sancho has endured something of a frustrating summer, however, making just one six-minute substitute appearance for Gareth Southgate’s England in the three Euro 2020 group matches. He was meanwhile an unused substitute in the 2-0 win over Germany in the round of 16.

How long have United wanted to sign him?

Sancho is a long-term United target.

United’s manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear he wants new faces this summer after his side finished second in the Premier League, 12 points adrift of champions Manchester City.

Solskjaer has said: “If we want to take up the challenge with City, we need to strengthen our squad.”
