Eduardo Escobar hits for cycle

Eduardo Escobar’s bat is officially heating up, as the Mets infielder hit for the cycle for the first time in his career. He completed the feat with a ninth-inning triple that drove in two runs and gave the Mets some insurance in their 11-5 win over the Padres on Monday night in San Diego.

This was the first cycle by a Met in 10 years, with Scott Hairston the last to do it on April 27, 2012, and Escobar became the 11th in franchise history. It was also the first cycle in the 19-year history of Petco Park.

Escobar’s big night began with a first-inning single before he doubled in the fourth and homered in the eighth, finishing his night with six RBIs.
