Eagles Injury Report: Darius Slay misses practice due to “personal matter”

The Philadelphia Eagles issued their second official injury report on Thursday in advance of their Week 5 game against the Carolina Panthers.

Two players DID NOT PARTICIPATE: Lane Johnson and Darius Slay.

Both players have “personal matter” listed next to their names. Johnson seems to be on track to miss Sunday’s game. Slay should be good to go if he’s back on Friday. UPDATE: Slay announced why he missed today’s practice. Congrats to him and his family.

One player was a LIMITED PARTICIPANT: Jordan Mailata.

It’s unclear if Mailata will actually be able to play this week. The guess here is that he gives it a go and starts at right tackle in place of Johnson, with Andre Dillard staying at left tackle. If Mailata can’t play and Johnson doesn’t suit up, it’ll be Jack Driscoll at right tackle. Any way you slice it, it’s not the perfect setup for the Eagles going against the Panthers’ pass rushers. Carolina is either getting a distracted Johnson, a hampered Mailata, or a backup Driscoll.

Three players were FULL PARTICIPANTS: Jason Kelce, Quez Watkins, and Avonte Maddox.

All three players were upgraded to full after being limited on Wednesday. Barring any setbacks, they’re on track to play against the Panthers. The Eagles will have to spend time prepping for him, just in case he does suit up.

CAROLINA PANTHERS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)

The only change from Wednesday’s injury report is that starting center Matt Paradis was added a DNP due to unspecified illness. One would guess he’ll be able to play.

Starting left tackle Cameron Erving and starting linebacker Shaq Thompson missed practice for the second day in a row. The former being out seems especially troublesome since Carolina doesn’t have a great offensive line to begin with. The Eagles’ defensive line (outside of Javon Hargrave) is overdue to come alive.

All indications point to Christian McCaffrey being a true game-time decision. We’ll see how he fares in Sunday’s pregame warmups.
