Brent Venables New Football Coach At Oklahoma, Sources Say

UPDATE: A crowd of faithful Sooners, the Pride of Oklahoma, cheerleaders and more are gathering at Max Westheimer Airport Sunday night in anticipation of seeing the new OU coach.

According to reports, that coach is Brent Venables, a long-time defensive-coordinator with the Clemson Tigers and, previously, from 1999-2011 with Oklahoma.

According to Blevins, two names associated with the coaching search — Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning and Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell — were not interviewed by Oklahoma as of Saturday night.

Multiple college football insiders also identified Venables as the focus of OU’s leadership.

If Venables becomes OU’s next head coach, per an ESPN report, current Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby has been identified as his top choice to take the same position at Oklahoma.

According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, OU officials are on their way to South Carolina to finalize the deal with Venables.

Venables worked on the OU coaching staff from 1999 to 2011 under former full-time and current interim head coach Bob Stoops.

This is a developing story.
