The 247Sports way-too-early preseason top 25 for the 2022 season is here, on the heels of the College Football Playoff once again being SEC-dominated at the top. Will college football’s hierarchy potentially shift next fall or will the recruiting behemoths in the south, anchored by elite head coaches and difference-makers at the skill positions, continue to carry the torch?

Putting together a preseason top 25 eight months out from the start of play is tougher than ever considering the extra year of eligibility still possible for most student-athletes, the transfer portal’s ever-changing effect on rosters and anticipated conference changes with unpredictable timelines.

Despite this, it’s fun to look ahead with projections and then see where we went wrong in hindsight. We polled several of our national analysts ahead of the national championship game and got their picks for the 2022 rankings.

Based on a points system — 25 points for Alabama at No. 1, 24 points for Ohio State at No. 2 and so on — here are the results, including a few teams outside of the rankings who received votes.
