KAYLA: THIS IS THE CDC’S VACCINE RECOMMENDATION FOR PHASE 1B, WHICH DOES INCLUDE GROCERY STORE WORKERS. THERE ARE OTHER CATEGORIES ON THE LIST ALSO INCLUDED IN PHASE 1B OF THEIR PLAN. THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH TELL US GROCERY STORE EMPLOYEES ARE NOT INCLUDED IN PHASE 1B OF THEIR PLAN. THEY SENT THIS STATEMENT, NOTING THE VACCINE SUPPLY IS SHORT IN THE STATE, AND THAT DATA INDICATED EMPLOYEES WORKING IN CONGREGATE SETTINGS WERE MORE AT RISK OF GETTING THE DISEASE. Nearly 100,000 Iowans have now received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.The Iowa Department of Public Health on Thursday reported 841 new positive virus cases and 22 additional deaths. At 10 a.m., the health department reported 327,255 total positive cases, 299,122 total recoveries and 5,196 total deaths since the start of the pandemic. Twenty-four hours earlier, the health department reported 326,414 total cases and 5,174 total deaths.IDPH data shows 382,598 vaccine doses have been administered in Iowa, with 99,978 individuals completing both doses. The 14-day positivity rate declined from 8.6% to 8.4% and the seven-day rate dropped from 6.4% to 6.2%. State data shows 1,505,492 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19, while 3,797,409 tests have been administered.Iowa had reported no counties with a positivity rate over 15% Wednesday, but on Thursday Adair County jumped up to 21.9%. It’s the only county reporting a rate greater than 15%. Mitchell County reports the lowest rate in the state at 1.7%.Iowa’s virus hospitalization numbers are at their lowest since September. There are now 273 patients hospitalized with the virus, down from 292 the previous day. There are 64 patients in intensive care and 26 patients on ventilators.The number of Iowa’s long-term care facilities reporting outbreaks dropped from 39 to 38 overnight. The health department reports 1,046 positive cases and 678 recoveries among residents and staff within those facilities.
