A new commercial for Mountain Dew Zero Sugar features the return of Gremlins star Zack Galligan as well as the Mogwai Gizmo.
The commercial features Galligan’s Billy Peltzer offering to share a bottle of Mountain Dew Zero Sugar with Gizmo before telling him to be careful. However, Gizmo ends up spilling Dew all over himself — and shortly after, more Mogwai start spawning. The commercial ends with the appearance of Billy’s daughter, who has a mohawked Mogwai of her own.
First debuting in 1984, Gremlins was a critical and commercial success which lead to the 1990 sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch. A third film has never manifested, though Chris Columbus has been working on his own version of the script for years.
The Gremlins will soon return in the HBO Max animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Set before the events of the first Gremlins film, it follows Sam Wing — the future owner of the shop where Billy finds Gizmo in the first film — and Gizmo as they fight an evil industrialist and his army of Gremlins. The series boasts an all-star voice cast, including Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian) and B.D. Wong (Jurassic World) as Sam’s parents.
