‘Avatar 2’ looks different from any movie you’ve ever seen—here’s why

With “Avatar: The Way of Water” hitting theaters this weekend, director James Cameron is gambling that audiences are ready to not only return to Pandora after 13 years, but that they will be open to a film shot in 48 frames per second.

For virtually the entire history of film, movies have been shot and displayed at the cinematic standard of 24 frames per second. This means that 24 still images are displayed on the screen every second, creating the illusion of motion.

While there have been high profile attempts to bring higher frame rate films to theaters in the past — Peter Jackson tried it with his “Hobbit” films and director Ang Lee wanted audiences to see 2019’s “Gemini Man” at a whopping 120 frames per second — both received swift blowback from critics and audiences for the way they looked.

“It came to kind of define the genre of film,” Richard Miller, executive vice president of technology at Pixelworks, says of the 24 frames per second look. “We’ve become very used to it. I think our brains know that we’re watching a story when we see it.”

Newscasts, live sports and even soap operas typically hit your TV screen at 30 frames per second, which gives them their distinct visual feel. But when a film is presented in a high frame rate, the end result can end up looking too realistic to some people, and take them out of the story.

“The old way of doing high frame rate makes it look like sports or a documentary or a soap opera, and it kind of disengages that storytelling zone,” Miller says. “When filmmakers make a movie, they try to instill a suspense of disbelief. You can only really get there with the 24 frames per second look. If you try a high frame rate look, you ruin the suspense of disbelief.”

“I think everybody who has a recent TV, they’ve seen it,” he adds. It’s kind of subconscious, but it just doesn’t quite look right. It doesn’t look like a movie.”

Enter James Cameron.

For “Avatar: The Way of Water” as well as the recently re-released original, Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment worked with Pixelworks’ TrueCut Motion platform to adjust the look of the onscreen motion in every shot of the film.

These “motion grading” adjustments – which Miller hopes will one day be as common as color grading in the post-production process – allow the film to be shown in 48 frames per second so that images look crisp and detailed on bigger, brighter and better displays, but without any unusual-looking motion taking viewers out of the story.

The result is that “Avatar: The Way of Water” is the first major film to be released in a high frame rate but adjusted to keep its “cinematic” look.

In the case of the “Avatar” sequel, the action and underwater sequences will run at a higher frame rate, allowing the motion to look better and more realistic, while dramatic scenes have been adjusted to look like the traditional 24 frames per second standard that audiences are accustomed to.

“It’s a tool for the director to create the look that he or she wants shot by shot,” Miller says. “It’s used selectively. Some shots may not need the tool at all.”

The end goal is to create a seamless visual experience that maximizes the aesthetic and cinematic appeal of each shot in the film.

Still, Miller says, the idea is also for moviegoers to not notice anything different about the action onscreen other than that it looks great.

“Sit back, relax and immerse yourself in the movie,” he says.

“Allow that suspension of disbelief to happen and just lose yourself in the world of Pandora. If you never notice anything distracting about the motion and you just love the movie and the story, our job is done.”

Prince George and Princess Charlotte match their parents William and Kate outfits for carol concert

The Wales family were perfectly coordinated as they arrived for Kate Middleton’s royal Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in London today.

Prince George, 9, and his younger sister Princess Charlotte, 7, were mini-mes of their parents Prince William, 40, and Kate Middleton, 40, donning matching outfits as they arrived for the event.

The Princess of Wales upcoming concert will recognise the selfless efforts of communities throughout the UK, highlighting the importance of coming together to support one another.

It is being held on the same day the final three episodes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive Netflix documentary were released.

Twinning: The Prince of Wales, Princess Charlotte, Prince George, and the Princess of Wales wore matching outfits for tonight’s Westminster Abbey carol concert

However, despite the episodes being aired, the Wales family were pictured beaming as they arrived at the London venue hand-in-hand.

Kate nailed festive dressing in a burgundy coat dress, a matching shimmering clutch and gloves, and burgundy heels.

Meanwhile her daughter Charlotte wore a matching £160 burgundy coast from Trotters Heritage.

Prince William donned a complementary shade of navy, wearing a suit in the shade, paired with a matching men’s dress coat. He referenced his wife’s outfit by sporting a tie in burgundy.

Prince George matched his father’s silhouette, in his own navy slacks and dress coat. However, he finished his outfit with a navy and white striped tie.

King Charles and Prince William have both refused to comment on the extraordinary claims made by Harry and Meghan in the explosive finale to their Netflix mini-series.

The Sussexes have used their latest Netflix shows to wound Prince William and King Charles and claim that dark forces blocked the Queen from seeing them before Megxit.

Harry also said his family were upset and jealous of Meghan’s popularity so pursued a vendetta against her because she was ‘doing the job better’ and ‘stealing the limelight’ from ‘those born to do it’.

Coordination: The young royals twinned with their parents, donning clothes in the same colours of burgundy and navy

But today, despite the slew of incendiary claims in three hours of new interviews and footage, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace declined to comment on anything in the series.

Kate will today host her carol service in Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s honour, in what will be her first since she was given the Princess of Wales title.

It will recognise the selfless efforts of communities throughout the UK, highlighting the importance of coming together to support one another.

Spearheaded by the Princess, it will combine both traditional and modern elements, reaching people of all faiths and none. The service, Royal Carols: Together at Christmas, will then be shown on ITV on Christmas Eve.

It is also set to pay tribute to the late Queen, and will see Westminster Abbey flooded with festive decorations as the world renowned Abbey Choir sing carols and special guests deliver special readings.

The King and Queen Consort will join the Princess of Wales for the service. Kensington Palace confirmed that ‘The New Fab Four’ as they have been dubbed will attend the ceremony together.

It comes after the Princess of Wales shared a video of herself getting creative and decorating a Christmas tree ahead of her royal Christmas carol concert.

In the short clip, which was shared on the Wales’ Instagram Stories yesterday, the royal is seen beaming as she fixes baubles to the branches of a fir tree, as Christmas music plays in the background.

Imposed on the screen is a short caption which says: ‘Final touches before the Together at Christmas carol service tomorrow.’

Kanye West’s Love of Hitler and Nazis Allegedly Goes Back 20 Years – Rolling Stone

For the past two months, Kanye West has dominated headlines for a nonstop stream of reprehensible behavior. What started out as a controversy over the rapper’s ‘White Lives Matter’ T-shirts descended into a torrent of antisemitic remarks before he appeared on Alex Jones’ show in early December to praise Nazis and Hitler. “I see good things about Hitler,” West said during the bizarre three-hour interview where he falsely claimed Hitler had invented highways and microphones.

West’s remarks mirrored earlier claims former business and music industry sources had told CNN and NBC this fall — that the musician had lauded Hitler and made several antisemitic comments within the past five years, paying at least two settlements to former employees who allege he made such remarks in the workplace.

But as nearly half a dozen sources who worked with West tell Rolling Stone, his alleged obsession of Hitler and Nazis dates back even further than previously reported. They claim that West has been discussing his admiration for Hitler and what he sees as positive achievements of Nazi Germany for nearly two decades, describing it as a well-known but well-kept secret within the rapper’s inner circle.

Beyond just fascination, two sources claim, West allegedly took inspiration from Nazi propaganda strategies and power-gaining tactics to achieve his own fame and success. “It’s not a stretch to now compare Kanye’s ‘by any means necessary’ methods and tactics with Adolf Hitler’s,” a former longtime collaborator says. “To know that a Hitler/[Joseph] Goebbels playbook has been a central inspiration to Kanye’s own media playbook helps bring a great deal of clarity to the exact types of moves he’s been making over his career.” (West did not reply to Rolling Stone‘s request for comment.)

“It’s not a stretch to now compare Kanye’s ‘by any means necessary’ methods and tactics with Adolf Hitler’s.”

Former Longtime Collaborator

In the years before the release of West’s 2004 Grammy-winning debut album The College Dropout, West’s success as a rapper was unclear. While he was a wonderkid producer, music label executives believed West’s semi-preppy look and suburban upbringing wasn’t a fit for the gangster rapper image of the early 2000s. West’s persistence won out when he was signed to Roc-A-Fella in 2002 and quickly began working on his first album. It was in those early studio sessions the then-26-year-old frequently discussed Hitler and Nazis and quizzed others on their thoughts, according to a 2003 music industry source who claims to have witnessed the conversations firsthand. “It was like a daily thing,” the source says.

The topic wasn’t couched in general conversation, the music source says. Instead, West allegedly would approach collaborators and industry executives and ambush them with questions — seemingly trying to catch people off-guard. “Going up to somebody like, ‘So what do you think about the Holocaust?’ the music source explains.

Until West received an answer he was satisfied with — which allegedly included some form of acknowledgement of the “good” the Nazi leader had done — West would continue to press people until he felt his views were validated, the music industry source says. “It sometimes became heated depending on the person,” says the source.

West took a particular interest in Nazi marketing and propaganda techniques, according to a second former longtime collaborator, who estimates in the four-plus years of working with West that the rapper spoke positively of Hitler at least half a dozen times.

“[West’s] pattern of speaking on this in the studio [or] workplace was reasonably consistent,” the longtime former collaborator claims. “If he felt you were trustworthy … there was a reasonably high likelihood that he would attempt to engage with you and evangelize his beliefs about Hitler and the Nazis to you.”

A third longtime music collaborator recalls having a brief, tense conversation with West over Hitler around 2014, with West allegedly trying to explain the “good” Hitler had done. “I think my exact words were, ‘So what if Hitler did some good shit. So what?’”

“It’s almost unfathomable that anyone would call [Hitler] anything other than a murderer.”

Former Business Associate

Others didn’t feel so comfortable challenging West. Although the former longtime collaborator says they found conversations and mentions of Hitler extremely troubling, they felt there was “absolutely zero reasonable ability” to push back without risking being fired. “When these things happened, if you still wanted a place in this group, you stuffed down your concerns, kept a smile on your face, and moved forward as if nothing bad had happened,” the former collaborator explains.

West praising Hitler stunned a former business associate, who claims during a high-level meeting in fall 2015 that West called Hitler a “marketing genius” within the first 15 minutes of the call. “In my 25-plus years of being in the workforce, I’ve never heard anybody say that name out loud in a business meeting,” the associate says.

To salvage the meeting, the businessperson recalls correcting West and attempting to shift the conversation, only for West to say, “No, [Hitler] really understood how to mobilize people in a way that no one ever has.” “Hearing that, it’s almost unfathomable that anyone would call [Hitler] anything other than a murderer,” the former business associate explains, adding it was “without question the most disgusting thing I’ve heard in my lifetime.”

The following year, West released “Famous,” a track that reignited his long-standing feud with Taylor Swift. An early version of the song that leaked online contained antisemitic lyrics and West gripes about not being able to talk about Hitler, The Wrap recently reported. “The world’s turning black slowly,” West raps. “Where you can call niggas ‘niggas,’ but you better not mention Hitler. So tell me who runs the labels, where the guns from?”

West’s Hitler comments again almost spilled out into the public forum in May 2018 during a trainwreck interview with TMZ where West crassly said that America’s painful history of the enslavement of Black people “sounds like a choice.”

During this rant, West allegedly spoke about loving Hitler and Nazis, former TMZ staffer Van Lathan Jr. claimed on his podcast “Higher Learning” in October. However, Lathan said, TMZ removed the offending remarks from the video. (Two people with knowledge of the incident told Rolling Stone they had also heard about West’s remarks at TMZ’s offices.)

Behind closed doors, two sources say, West continued to talk about Hitler and Nazis with his inner circle at the time — escalating when the rapper told his team that he wanted to name his eighth studio album Hitler. (CNN first reported on West wanting to name the album after the Nazi leader.)

“If you give a maniac a big audience — like Hitler — bad things happen. There are people listening who are buying into it because Kanye said it and what he’s saying is garbage.”

Former Business Associate

But two industry sources allege that West’s admiration of Hitler and Nazis is beyond shock-value or talking points; rather, they claim West has tried to mimic Nazi techniques — such as demanding ultimate control, dominating a press narrative and propaganda strategies — for his own personal and career gain.

“I feel like he used those techniques to get to where he is, to be honest,” explains the music industry source from 2003. “He was just so fascinated by [Hitler] — someone that can have complete control over people and how he did it. I think it was maybe the understanding of who Hitler was and how he created his army … I think [West] started to almost correlate how he could manipulate things to be, not the same level, but how he could try to get people to be his ‘army.’”

The former longtime collaborator recalls West frequently talking about “building an army,” and would pump up his team by referring to them as “assassins,” equating the “work we were doing as war.”

Those who have watched West lavish praise on Hitler on podcasts and interviews are concerned that he could wind up influencing even the smallest number of his fans. To them, it’s not an eccentric and provocative entertainer gaining headlines — it’s amplification of harmful and dangerous beliefs.

“No one should be writing off his behavior as merely “Kanye being Kanye,” the former collaborator adds. “This is a person who purposely deployed nuanced manipulation and propaganda inspired by Nazi and fascist playbooks as a means of galvanizing himself for the purposes of accumulating power and influence and then attempted to convert that — with complete seriousness — into a run for the U.S. presidency.”

“Between his fame, social media and traditional media, he has a very big microphone,” the former business associate adds. “It’s reckless and dangerous because in some ways he’s legitimizing the fact that there was some justification [for Hitler’s actions] … If you give a maniac a big audience — like Hitler — bad things happen. There are people listening who are buying into it because Kanye said it and what he’s saying is garbage.”

Henry Cavill not returning as Superman in new James Gunn film

Comment

DC Studios has a new “Superman” movie in the works — but it will not feature Henry Cavill as the eponymous hero of the franchise, according to the studio’s co-director and the British actor himself.

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone,” Cavill wrote in a Thursday statement posted on Instagram, referring to the studio’s co-directors. “I will, after all, not be returning as Superman.”

The news came just weeks after Cavill announced that he would return as Superman, though he didn’t reveal details of the film at the time, and entertainment news outlets reported that there were different ideas under consideration for the franchise.

“After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” Cavill said in his Wednesday statement. He added, “I respect that James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Gunn announced in a tweet late Wednesday that he is writing the new film, which will focus “on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.”

“But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future,” Gunn added.

Gunn and Safran were hired to lead DC Studios this October, and this is their first major project announcement since taking over. Gunn — who is known for directing “The Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” — said he has been writing the script of the new “Superman” film “for a while” and is looking for a director for the project.

The news comes amid a major shake-up at DC Studios’ owner, Warner Bros. Discovery, which was formed following the recent merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery. Following the merger, Warner Bros. announced a raft of cancellations of planned content in a bid to save money, including projects in the superhero universe, such as “Wonder Woman 3,” which was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins. The company said in October that the price tag of its content cuts could reach $2.5 billion.

HBO Max and Discovery Plus to merge into single streaming service

Cavill has played Superman since “Man of Steel” in 2013, and in each of the three DC Extended Universe films that has come out since then. He made a cameo as Superman in “Black Adam,” which was released in October.

In a video at the time, he said his cameo in “Black Adam” was a “very small taste of things to come,” and told fans their patience would be “rewarded.”

Zack Snyder, who directed the four previous “Superman” DC Extended Universe films, which starred Cavill, was asked in a radio interview last month whether he was returning to DC Studios under Gunn and Safran’s leadership. “As far as I know, which is very little … I am doing my thing and haven’t had anyone give me a call or anything,” he responded. “So I am just wishing them all the best and hoping that they make some cool movies.”

According to Variety, the new movie under Gunn will show Superman as his alter ego, Clark Kent, working as a journalist in the fictional city of Metropolis, where he meets fellow journalist and future love interest Lois Lane.

Plans for Warner Bros. Discovery to release a different “Superman” film, produced by J.J. Abrams and written by novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates, are still moving forward, Variety reported.

Prince Harry says Prince William ‘screamed’ at him over royal split with Meghan in Netflix documentary

CNN
 —

Prince Harry said it was “terrifying” to have his brother, Prince William, scream at him during his bitter split from the royal family, in the final installments of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s controversial Netflix documentary that were released Thursday.

The fourth, fifth and sixth episodes of “Harry & Meghan” cover the pair’s challenges since their 2018 wedding, Meghan’s deteriorating mental health and her 2020 miscarriage, and ultimately their decision to quit as working members of the family.

Harry said he initially asked for a “half in, half out” arrangement, where Harry and Meghan would have their own jobs but still work in support of the Queen, during a crunch family meeting. “But it became very clear very quickly that that goal was not up for discussion or debate,” Harry said.

“It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father say things that just simply weren’t true, and my grandmother quietly sit there and take it all in,” he said, recalling the conversations with Prince William, then-Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth II.

“But you have to understand that from the family’s perspectives, especially from hers, there are ways of doing things. And her ultimate mission and goal, responsibility, is the institution … she’s going to go on the advice that she’s given,” Harry said.

The pair describe throughout the new episodes how, in their view, their position within the royal family became untenable after constant hounding from Britain’s media and repeated disregard for the couple’s wellbeing inside palace walls.

Harry hinted that there was jealousy from other royals towards Meghan given the amount of media attention she was initially receiving. “The issue is when someone who is marrying in, who should be a supporting act, is then stealing the limelight or is doing the job better than the person who is born to do this,” he said.

“That upsets people. It upsets the balance. Because you have been led to believe that the only way that your charities can succeed and your mission can grow is if you are on the front pages of those newspapers.”

The series also touches on Meghan’s deteriorating mental health and her miscarriage in July 2020. “I was pregnant. I really wasn’t sleeping. The first morning that we woke up in our new home is when I miscarried,” Meghan said.

She described experiencing suicidal ideation, telling the filmmakers she believed “all of this will stop if I’m not here. And that was the scariest thing about it, it was such clear thinking.”

“The lies, that’s one thing. You kind of get used to that when you live within this family,” Harry added. “But what they were doing to her, and the effect it was having on her… enough. Enough of the pain, enough of the suffering.”

“I just did everything I could to make them proud, and to really be a part of the family,” Meghan said in the fifth episode, speaking of her relationship with the other royals. “And then the bubble burst.”

“I realized that I wasn’t just being thrown to the wolves, I was being fed to the wolves,” she said.

The highly anticipated Netflix documentary marks the Sussexes’ latest attempt to reclaim the narrative surrounding their departure from royal life.

It features details on the increasingly tense relationships between Harry and his brother, WIlliam, and his father, King Charles III. And it emphasizes the suggestion that the royals wanted to sideline and isolate the couple, often through the planting of negative media reporting, rather than have them dwarf more senior royals in popularity.

“My dad said to me: ‘Darling boy, you can’t take on the media. The media will always be the media,” Harry said, describing the palace’s relationship with news outlets as a “dirty game.”

Buckingham Palace reiterated it will not comment on the documentary on Thursday. Royal engagements are meanwhile continuing, with King Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, set to visit a community kitchen in London and attend a carol service with the Prince and Princess of Wales and other members of the family.

The culmination of the breakdown between the royal institution and Harry and Meghan, who were once touted by parts of the media as the modernizing force the monarchy needed, was their historic and controversial decision in early 2020 to quit as working royals and leave the UK.

Harry said he spoke to Queen Elizabeth II and arranged to meet her, with Meghan, before that split was finalized.

“She knew that we were finding things hard. I’d spoken to her many times about it,” Harry said. But as the meeting approached, Meghan said they received a message from an aide telling them they were not allowed to see the monarch.

“I’ve actually been told that I’m busy all week,” the Queen then told Harry, according to his recollection. “I was like, wow,” Harry said. “This is when a family and a family business are in direct conflict … really what they’re doing is blocking a grandson from seeing his grandmother,” added Meghan.

The couple were critical of the Queen’s aides but again were again complimentary of the late monarch herself, who died aged 96 in September, shortly after filming concluded for the series.

Their documentary, and Harry’s upcoming memoir, focus more attention on the difficult relationship between the prince and his father, King Charles.

Thursday’s release follows last week’s batch of episodes, in which Prince Harry criticized “unconscious bias” inside the family.

Henry Cavill out as Superman, James Gunn writing new reboot

Just three weeks after announcing he was “back as Superman,” Henry Cavill has been forced to reveal that he won’t be playing the character in the future after all.

Instead, the Man of Steel will be rebooted in a new movie being written by DC Studios co-chief James Gunn, featuring the iconic superhero as a younger man.

Gunn announced on Twitter that he and his producing partner Peter Safran will be announcing the first projects in their new slate of DC productions at the beginning of 2023. “Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn said.

Replying to queries from fans, Gunn revealed that he is writing the film (and has been “for a while”), that it won’t be an origin story, and that it doesn’t have a director attached yet.

Cavill posted about this abrupt turn in his fortunes on Instagram. “It’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” he said, before making a mild dig at the chaotic decision-making at Warner Bros. in recent months as it works through its merger with Discovery and relaunches DC movies and TV under Gunn and Safran. “After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to [Gunn and Safran’s] hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” Cavill wrote.

“The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Cavill had posted about his return to the role after Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson had successfully persuaded Warner Bros. executives to let Cavill appear in a post-credits scene for his movie. Cavill has reportedly also shot a cameo for next year’s The Flash, but it’s not certain this will be used in the film now.

It was also recently announced that Cavill will no longer be starring in Netflix’s hit TV adaptation of The Witcher; he will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. In this case, the decision appeared to be Cavill’s. Some have speculated that he set Geralt of Rivia aside in order to return to the role of Clark Kent, while others have guessed at a difference of opinion with showrunner Lauren Hissrich.

Gunn indicated that there may yet be room for Cavill in future DC Studios projects, although he did not specify whether this would be as a different character, or as an alternative version of Superman (similar to Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck’s joint return as Batman in The Flash). “We just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future,” Gunn said.

Gunn also said that he and Safran had met with Affleck with a view to the former Bruce Wayne taking the directing reins on a DC project. “Met with Ben yesterday precisely because he wants to direct & we want him to direct; we just have to find the right project,” Gunn tweeted.

But he gave no indication of the status of the other Superman project that has been in development at Warner Bros.: a film about a Black Superman written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J. J. Abrams. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this project is not impacted by Gunn’s new film and Coates is still working on the script.

Before announcing the Superman news, Gunn took to Twitter Wednesday to rubbish a report that director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman would be integrated into the wider DC Universe. “This is entirely untrue,” he said.

It has been a turbulent few months for DC productions as the new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has culled projects and installed Gunn and Safran with a mandate to consolidate and reboot DC movies and TV. A reportedly complete Batgirl film was shelved, and more recently a third Wonder Woman film from director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot was canceled.

DJ ‘tWitch’ death: Stephen Boss was planning to have another child with wife

Ellen show DJ ‘tWitch’ said he was hoping to have another child with his wife the month before he shot himself dead in a motel bathroom.

Stephen Boss, 40, was found at the Oak Tree Motel in LA – a 15-minute walk from his home – at about 11:15am Tuesday.

He had celebrated his wedding anniversary with wife Allison Holker, 34, three days before.

In an interview last month, the dancer told the Jennifer Hudson Show that he and his wife were considering adding to their family – saying: ‘I love the little babies, I love them. It’s a constant conversation.’

Allison excitedly told Hudson: ‘I think we would love to start trying for another one.’

On Wednesday, she paid tribute to him in a heartfelt statement – saying she would ‘save the last dance’ for him – before welcoming tearful family members to their home in Enrico, California, on Wednesday.

Boss and his wife had been planning to have a fourth child, discussing their future on the Jennifer Hudson Show in November. The couple celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary just three days before the tragedy

The couple discussed having another child, and seemed to be planning for their future

The So You Think You Can Dance star, who met his dance teacher wife Allison on the show in 2010, was father to three children, Zaia, 3, Maddox Laurel, 6, and Weslie Renae, 14, who was born in Alison’s previous relationship but adopted by Stephen.

The couple appeared to be happy and planning for the future when they were interviewed on the Jennifer Hudson Show in November.

They celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary on December 10, posting a heartfelt video of them dancing in front of a Christmas tree to mark the occasion.

The suicide has cast a dark cloud over the bright future of daughter Weslie, who is set to study at Notre Dame University with the class of 2026, according to a sign on the family’s front lawn.

She also plays for her school’s soccer team, models sportswear and is a young influencer for brands including Dick’s Sporting Goods, managed by her parents.

Boss is survived by his wife Allison, 34, and their children, Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3

DJ Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss died aged 40 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in LA Tuesday

Ellen DeGeneres has paid tribute to him as her ‘family’ and  ‘pure love and light’ – adding that she was heartbroken.

The star said: ‘I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.’

Motel staff told DailyMail.com that a maid discovered the DJ’s body while performing a welfare check after he failed to check out on time.

They said he used his own name to check into the motel Monday and was not discovered until Tuesday morning.

Workers said he ‘shot himself in the head’ but no one heard the gunshot, describing the scene as ‘pretty bad’.

He left home on Monday without his car and when he didn’t return by Tuesday – disappearing overnight – his wife frantically filed a report.

In an interview last month the dancer told the Jennifer Hudson Show that he and his wife were considering adding to their family: ‘I love the little babies, I love them,’ he said

Family members consoled each other as they arrived at the luxury property, which is just a 15- minute walk from where Boss shot himself

The manager of the Oak Tree Inn, who only wanted to be identified by his first name, Rakesh, said: ‘He went into his room, and he never came out. At 11.15am on Tuesday the maid opened the door to check on the room.

‘There was his stuff in there but no one there. She checked the bathroom, and there was blood everywhere.

‘She was very scared. This is the first time anything like that has happened here. We called 911, they told us to check his pulse but there was nothing.

‘The paramedics and the police came, and they said he was dead. Maybe he did it during the day on Monday. It’s a busy, loud road outside here, it’s possible nobody heard it because of that.’

Boss called ahead at around 9.20am on Monday to check if rooms were available, then walked the few blocks from his home – and appeared ‘completely normal’ and ‘calm’.

Boss and Allison, a professional dancer, married in 2013, hosting ‘Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings’ together on Disney +.

Ellen posted a heartfelt tribute to the DJ, calling him ‘family’ and saying she was ‘heartbroken’

Workers told DailyMail.com that a maid discovered his body after performing a welfare check when he failed to leave the room on time

He left home on Monday without his car and when he didn’t return by Tuesday his wife frantically went into a local LAPD station to file a report

He worked on Ellen’s show from 2014 until it ended in 2022, and was made an executive producer in 2020.

The couple share three children together – Weslie, 14, Maddox, 6, and Zaia, 3.

Allison said in a statement to People: ‘It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us.

‘Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love and light was everything to him.

‘He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.

‘To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt.

‘I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.’

The couple celebrated their ninth wedding anniversary just three days before the tragedy, with Allison and Stephen both posting a heartfelt message online

Boss posted a video with his wife Allison Holker just two days before his death, with the couple dancing in front of a Christmas tree

Boss left the house on foot before being found dead in a nearby hotel after his wife raised the alarm

‘Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you.’

His death comes months after Ellen paid tribute to her ex-partner Anne Heche, who died after crashing her car into an LA home with cocaine in her system – becoming trapped in the blaze for 45 minutes before passing away in hospital.

An LAPD spokesman confirmed to DailyMail.com that the incident was being handled by the LA County Coroner’s office as there were no signs of ‘foul play’.

Tributes have flooded in for the professional dancer after the news of his untimely death

He competed on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008,where he came runner-up, later returning as an All-Star, and then as a judge in 2022

His wife Allison said that she would always ‘save the last dance’ for her husband in a statement after his death

Seen publicly for the last time in September, Boss admitted to missing the Ellen show – which he said ‘made it’s mark on history.’

He added: ‘Life has been great, man. We’ve been having, honestly, a lot more time at home, kids are back at school, life is beautiful man.

‘There will be nothing like that show ever again. It definitley made its mark on history and it was one of the greatest places to be in the afternoon.’

The couple also posted a video on their YouTube channel, appearing happy, for a beginners dance cardio workout two days before his death.

Boss started as a DJ on the show after breaking into showbiz on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project, before becoming a runner-up on Star Search.

Ellen said she was heartbroken by the death of her friend, who she described as ‘family’

He later competed on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, where he came runner-up, later returning as an All-Star and then as a judge in 2022.

Ex-executive producer of the Ellen show, Andy Lassner, paid tribute to Boss, saying: ‘Rest, my friend,’ along with a picture of the two of them and DeGeneres.

The Ellen show was canceled earlier this year amid claims of bullying and a ‘toxic workplace,’ with the final episode airing on May 26.

Boss spoke about the criticism of the work culture at the Ellen Show, defending her until the very end.

He told US Weekly: ‘We can’t speak too much legally about it, but I’ll say this: there’s been love.

‘Obviously there’s some things to address, but from my standpoint and from countless others, there’s been love.

‘I’ll just leave it at that until there’s a time where we can address more publicly. There’s been love and there will continue to be love.’

In 2020, at least ten former and then-current employees of the Ellen Show claimed they had faced bullying and racism behind the scenes.

The show, which ran from 2003 to 2022, built a brand around the compassionate slogan ‘Be Kind,’ often touted by the show’s namesake.

Staffers who had first-hand knowledge of the day-to-day goings on of production, however, said the charitable endeavors and sloganeering were ‘all for show.’

Employees leveled much of the blame against executive producers, but claimed Ellen herself had not been involved enough to see what was happening on in her own show.

Months after the first claims surfaced, DeGeneres gave an interview, in which she said the attacks on her ‘did feel very misogynistic.’

‘It was devastating. I am a kind person. I am a person who likes to make people happy,’ she said, adding that she understood how people – even fans of hers – might come to believe that the allegations about her personal behavior were true.

Ellen DeGeneres has issued a statement regarding the death of her former talk show’s longtime DJ and co-executive producer, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, saying on Wednesday that she’s “heartbroken” over his passing.

“I’m heartbroken. tWitch was pure love and light,” she wrote on Instagram. “He was my family, and I loved him with all my heart. I will miss him. Please send your love and support to Allison and his beautiful children – Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia.”

Allison Holker Boss, his wife, confirmed in a statement to CNN on Wednesday that her husband had died at age 40.

He died by suicide, according to the LA County Medical Examiner. The LA County Coroner’s Office concluded their examination and published the report on his death on Wednesday.

Boss began his DJ duties on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in 2014, eventually going on to become a co-executive producer and occasional guest host.

Amid tribulations during the show’s run, stemming from allegations against DeGeneres from some employees about a toxic work environment, Boss publicly stood by his friend DeGeneres.

“We can’t speak too much legally about it, but I’ll say this, there’s been love,” Boss told Us Weekly. “Obviously there’s some things to address, but from my standpoint and from countless others, there’s been love. I’ll just leave it at that until there’s a time where we can address more publicly. There’s been love and there will continue to be love.”

As the show geared up for its finale earlier this year, Boss looked back at his time there with fondness, telling Entertainment Tonight that bidding farewell was a challenge.

“Things do have a beginning and they have an end, so I know that, but I think the closer that it’s getting to the end, naturally, as we do, you start to miss it and you start to soak in all of the little moments where you go, ‘Well, maybe I’m not quite ready to say goodbye just yet,’” he said. “But then at the same time, this is the natural order of things and also I’ve said it before, I’m just excited for my friend to start her new chapter of the rest of her journey, you know?”

When the time came for the “Ellen” show to sign off, DeGeneres surprised Boss with a moving tribute on air. At one point, she said, “Well, I don’t want to say goodbye.”

She went on to recount the first time they met – fittingly, for a dance lesson at her house.

“It was like a crash course in getting to know each other … and he was so patient with me,” she said. “We just bonded over learning to dance together.”

DeGeneres went on to note that when he was absent from the show for whatever reason, a piece was missing.

“I count on him to look over and make silly jokes,” she said. “I love you, tWitch, and you know how much. We tell each other that every day when we say goodbye. After the show, we both say ‘love you.’ He says, ‘Love you much,’ and I say, ‘Love you.’ And, so, he’s never going to be out of my life.”

Boss reacted emotionally to the video piece and DeGeneres’ words.

“I love the family we’ve gained and something I’ll always remember is that you gave me a place where I can just be myself,” he said. He added, joking: “Whether I was a real DJ or not, I always felt at home.”

DeGeneres joked back, “You’re a fake DJ but you’re real good man.”
