‘Big Sky’ Recap: Season 1, Episode 6

Big Sky‘s Merrilee Legarski might want to hold off on planning a funeral for her husband, Rick… because, as we learn at the end of the series’ winter premiere, he’s not dead!

As viewers will recall, Cassie Dewell fired a bullet into the Montana state trooper’s forehead at the end of the fall finale, right after she found him with the three women he was planning to traffic to Canada. And that’s where Tuesday’s episode picks up, with Legarski bleeding out on the floor of the All In Bar’s basement. He’s transported to the hospital, where he flatlines but is revived yet comatose.

Cassie is incredibly shaken by what she’s done; throughout the episode, she (understandably) hovers on the edge of a panic attack. When Jenny arrives on the scene as emergency personnel are seeing to Jerrie, Grace and Danielle, she’s full of hope about Cody. But that’s quickly dashed when Sheriff Tubb’s officers excavate Cody’s truck, with the dead P.I.’s body inside. Jenny screams and falls to her knees in grief, while Cassie looks on and silently cries. (Side note: Even in her deep loss, this woman’s commitment to a detailed braid is commendable. At one point in the hour, even when she’s been sobbing her eyes out at home, Jenny is rocking a plait that would make Elsa jealous.)

At home, Ronald and his mom are freaking out. The police are going to search Legarski’s house to try to link him to the sex-trafficking, and if they find the hidden room where Rick kept all of his records, Ronald is toast. What’s more: Thanks to the recovered victims, the cops know that the other kidnapper is a long-haul trucker with a custom paint job on his vehicle. So Ronald repaints the cab of his truck and messes with the license plate, then hatches a plan to break into the Legarski home to eradicate anything tying him to the crime. (There’s still the rather huge part about Grace, Jerrie and Danielle being able to identify him, but ONE THING AT A TIME, MOTHER!)

Jenny and her son, Justin, hold a funeral and memorial service for Cody; the reception afterward includes some warm moments between the widow and Cassie, including when Cassie steps on stage to sing Neil Young’s “Harvest” — Cody’s favorite song — after a choked-up Jenny can’t make it through. Afterward, both women find themselves back at the office. “I never thought it would be you that would help me get through this,” Jenny tells her, and the bonding moment prompts Cassie to offer Jenny Cody’s spot in the private-investigator practice. Jenny scoffs, but eventually agrees — just until the Legarski case is put to bed.

Elsewhere, Jerrie is walking home when a man wearing a baseball cap calls her name and starts chasing her. Turns out, it’s just a guy she knows named Jimmy who “wanted to make sure you were OK.” The dynamic between them is a little unclear — it seems like he likes her, but she tells him the days she could talk to him “are over.” Still, she seems like she might actually like his concern. At her place, though, there’s a note reading “You don’t learn” on the door, harkening back to what Ronald often said to his captives.

Unbeknownst to everyone, over at the hospital, Rick’s fingers twitch, his heart rate monitor starts beeping faster, and then he opens an eye!

Amber Portwood Splits from Belgian Boyfriend Dimitri — ‘He’s Very Possessive and Jealous’

Amber Portwood is saying goodbye to her boyfriend, Dimitri.

On Tuesday night’s season 9 premiere of Teen Mom OG, Amber opened up about the struggles she was facing with her Belgian beau while they were continents apart, telling MTV producer Townsend that Dimitri “has been calling me nonstop” during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I need to be aware of this dynamic because I’ve been in controlling relationships before,” said Amber, 30. “He’s possessive from a distance, he needs to know what I’m doing all day every day,” she alleged.

Dimitri did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Tuesday.

Minutes later, Amber received a WhatsApp video call from Dimitri, who called from his home country and asked her what she was doing.

“Nothing, I’m outside, wondering why I’m getting a million messages,” she said.

Dimitri replied, “but it’s not my fault,” adding that he called her often “because I think of you. I love you, I miss you a lot.”

“There’s times where I feel like it’s getting a little much,” Amber told him, disclosing her feelings regarding their constant communication. “It’s turning into a very possessive situation and a very not healthy situation.”

“To be questioned by somebody so much at a time like this is just something that is not needed for me whatsoever when I’m dating,” she added.

Amber later discussed her relationship with ex Gary Shirley, telling him she had broken up with Dimitri.

“We’re not boyfriend and girlfriend,” she said. “He started getting to the point where he was calling and texting multiple, multiple, multiple times, all day long.”

Despite the breakup, Amber said she was “good for right now.”

Earlier in the episode, the MTV star reunited virtually with her castmates — Cheyenne Floyd, Catelynn Lowell, Mackenzie McKee and Maci Bookout — and told them she and Dimitri hadn’t “seen each other in seven months” due to the pandemic.

“Oh my god, that’s so long,” said Cheyenne, 28. “Is that because of COVID?”

“Yeah, because of COVID,” Amber confirmed. “The thing is though, he’s such a sweet guy, he’s amazing,” she added of Dimitri, and claimed, “but he’s very possessive and jealous because he’s not here.”

“Well, keeping those boundaries is very important for you,” Catelynn, 28, reminded Amber.

Amber met Dimitri online after her split from Andrew Glennon, with whom she shares 2½-year-old son James. She is also mom to 12-year-old daughter Leah, whom she shares with Gary. She and Dimitri met for the first time in person in an episode of Teen Mom OG, which aired in May 2020.

Teen Mom OG airs Tuesdays (8 p.m. ET) on MTV.

Hilaria Baldwin’s heritage scandal sparks reaction from Charo: ‘It’s funny’

Charo admitted she finds Hilaria Baldwin’s Spanish heritage scandal “funny.”

The 70-year-old Spanish-American actress-singer told Page Six that she spent her entire life trying to perfect her English so she doesn’t understand why Baldwin, 37, was “obsessed” with her Spanish accent.

“I spend all my life trying to speak English like you,” Charo told the outlet. “I hoped to [be] a sophisticated American and I was born in Murcia, Spain, where they have a very strong Castilian accent.”

“That’s Hilaria’s obsession, probably,” Charo thought. “I want to speak the best English because after so many years in America nobody knows what the hell I’m talking about.”

Baldwin was put on blast in December when it was discovered she wasn’t actually born in Spain — as she had implied — and instead was born and raised in Boston, Mass.

“In the case of Hilaria, she must be [so] obsessed with everything Spanish — the tradition, flamenco — that she really went into that education and she managed to do it very well indeed,” Charo mused. 

Baldwin was also criticized for allegedly faking a Spanish accent. The bilingual mother of five’s accent noticeably fluctuated over the years when she made appearances on TV.

After the news broke, the wife of Alec Baldwin also revealed her real name is Hillary.

“Yes, I am a White girl, my family is White… Europe has a lot of White people in them. Ethnically I am a mix of many, many things,” she said on social media.

Charo said she got a laugh out of the situation. “There’s nothing wrong if that makes her happy. I think it’s funny. In my opinion, it’s just funny,” she said.

In an interview with The New York Times, Baldwin tried to correct some of what she says are misconceptions about how she has presented herself.

“The things I have shared about myself are very clear,” Baldwin said. “I was born in Boston. I spent time in Boston and in Spain. My family now lives in Spain. I moved to New York when I was 19 years old and I have lived here ever since. For me, I feel like I have spent 10 years sharing that story over and over again. And now it seems like it’s not enough.”

Warrior princess fights to save humanity in Raya and the Last Dragon trailer

Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina star in Disney’s new animated feature Raya and the Last Dragon.

Disney has released the official full trailer for its upcoming animated film, Raya and the Last Dragon, with Kelly Marie Tran and Awkwafina voicing the titular characters. It has the distinction of being the first Disney animated feature to be remotely developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, working with home equipment and mostly communicating via Zoom. The pandemic also caused the film’s release date to be shifted multiple times. It’s now slated for a March 5 release, both in theaters and on Disney+ with premier access.

Disney first announced the film during its 2019 D23 Expo and presented co-directors Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Moana) and Carlos Lopez Estrada (Frozen II, Blindspotting) at D23 the following year. The fictional fantasy land of Kumandra was inspired by several different Southeast Asian cultures—Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, and the Philippines—and the production team traveled extensively to most of those countries to research the film. A Lao visual anthropologist also reviewed the final designs.

Per the official synopsis:

Raya and the Last Dragon takes us on an exciting, epic journey to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons lived together long ago in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, that same evil has returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than a dragon to save the world—it’s going to take trust and teamwork as well.

In addition to Tran (The Last Jedi, Rise of Skywalker) and Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell) as Sisu, the water dragon, the all-star cast includes Alan Tudyk (Resident Alien, Firefly) as Raya’s BFF and trusty “steed,” Tuk Tuk, whom Hall has described as a cross between a fuzzy bear and “an insect version of an armadillo,” per Entertainment Weekly. Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) voices Raya’s nemesis, Namaari; Sandra Oh (Sideways, Killing Eve) voices Namaari’s mother, Virana; Daniel Dae Kim (Lost, Hawaii Five-O) plays Raya’s father, Chief Benja; Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange) plays a giant named Tong; Izaac Wang plays a 10-year-old “entrepreneur” named Boun; and Thalia Tran pays a baby con artist named Little Noi.

The trailer opens with Raya encountering Little Noi, seemingly abandoned in an alley, only to discover the tiny con artist has some formidable acrobatic and martial arts skills. She recruits the tot for her quest to find the last dragon, along with Tong and Boun. But they are not the only ones hunting for Sisu, and when Raya finally finds her, Namaari and her followers are lying in wait. “You and the dragon are coming with me,” Namaari declares, but Raya isn’t having it. “My sword here says we’re not.” We can probably expect an epic showdown between these two at the film’s finale.

Raya and the Last Dragon premieres on March 5, 2021, simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ (with premier access) because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolf pays tribute to late rocker on what would’ve been his 66th birthday

Wolf Van Halen penned a touching tribute to his late father, Eddie, to commemorate what would’ve been the rocker’s 66th birthday on Tuesday.

“Happy 66th Birthday, Pop,” Wolf prefaced the heartfelt tweet. “I wish I could give you the biggest hug and celebrate it with you. I love and miss you so much it hurts. I don’t even know how to put it into words.”

“I’ve been doing my best to hold it together, but g——-t it’s really tough being here without you,” Wolf, 29, continued.

Wolf then followed up with a second tweet that read, “Not a second has gone by where you haven’t been on my mind, and today will be no different.”

Eddie Van Halen, best known for his innovative tapping, virtuosic guitar technique and his impeccable shredding in Van Halen, died at the age of 65 in October.

Van Halen told Billboard magazine in 2015 that he had one-third of his tongue removed due to cancer that had also spread to his esophagus.

“I used metal picks — they’re brass and copper — which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer,” he said at the time. “Plus, I basically live in a recording studio that’s filled with electromagnetic energy. So that’s one theory. I mean, I was smoking and doing a lot of drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time, my lungs are totally clear. This is just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible.”

Borderlands movie casts Kevin Hart as Roland

Eli Roth’s adaptation of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands has cast its Roland. Kevin Hart gets the part of the ex-Crimson Lance merc, joining Cate Blanchett (Lilith) as one of the sci-fi shooter’s four original heroes.

Lionsgate announced the casting on Tuesday, noting that Hart has starred in 10 films that have opened as box office No. 1s. His most recent role was in 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, whose $59 million domestic opening was tops for its premiere week.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” Roth (director, Hostel, and also a star in Inglourious Basterds) said in a statement. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before.”

A Borderlands feature film has been discussed since 2015. Roth was named director in February 2020, and Blanchett was brought aboard in May.

The first Borderlands launched in 2009; it’s since become one of Gearbox and publisher 2K Games’ most successful franchises, leading to three full sequels and an episodic spinoff from Telltale Games. Borderlands 3 launched in September 2019 for PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, and an updated version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X launched with the new consoles in November.

‘My whole childhood is ruined’

A fan theory about a pivotal scene in the 1994 Disney movie The Lion King is ruining childhoods on TikTok.

The dark theory suggests that Scar, the film’s villain, eats his brother Mufasa after killing him. That scene begins with Scar pushing Mufasa to his death and concludes with Simba cuddling up to his father’s dead body. After Simba runs away, it’s never explained what happens to Mufasa’s carcass.

That’s where TikTok user Christian Jones comes in. While rewatching the movie, he wondered what happened to Mufasa’s body and during his research, he found that while lions typically don’t have any natural predators, they will sometimes eat one another.

Jones backs up his theory by showing another scene in The Lion King where Scar is seen playing with a skull that could arguably be Mufasa’s. Jones even Googles images of lion skulls, which seem oddly similar to the one in the cartoon.

“My whole childhood is ruined,” one person commented. “I might actually cry.”

“It got a whole lot darker now,” another added.

“WHAT IN THE CIRCLE OF LIFE,” someone else said.

Others were quick to point out that the skulls didn’t match enough to be convincing (apparently, there is a skull-collecting TikTok community of some kind), but for the most part, users were shocked that they had never thought about the aftermath of Mufasa’s death.

In reality, hyenas can sometimes eat lions, especially if they’re dead — because, obviously, it’s free food. Plus, since The Lion King was based on Hamlet, there had to be some imagery of a skull somewhere in the movie.

The ‘Umbrella Academy’ star married Portner, a dancer and choreographer, in 2018.

Elliot Page and wife Emma Portner have decided to end their marriage, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

“After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce following our separation last summer,” the pair wrote in a statement. “We have the utmost respect for each other and remain close friends.”

The Oscar-nominated Juno star married Portner, a dancer and choreographer, in early 2018. On Jan. 3 that year, Page posted on Instagram, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife,” alongside a photograph of the couple’s hands with engagement rings, and a black-and-white picture of the pair embracing.

In December 2020, Page came out as transgender and non-binary, expressing at the time, “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.”

Over the years, Page has shared various other photographs on Instagram from his marriage to Portner, particularly for date nights and on Pride day.

Page is currently continuing his role as Vanya Hargreeves in Netflix’s action-comedy The Umbrella Academy.

Kevin Hart Closes Deal for ‘Borderlands’ Movie

Eli Roth is directing the Borderlands movie, which also has Cate Blanchett set to star as legendary thief Lilith. Emmy-winning Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin penned the script.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin,” said Roth in a statement. “Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”

Added Nathan Kahane, President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group: “Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games. We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn’t be in better creative hands.”

The Borderlands video game launched in 2009 to acclaim, with Gearbox Software and publisher 2K debuting Borderlands 3 in September 2019. The series has sold more than 66 million units.

Avi Arad and Ari Arad are producing Borderlands via their Arad Productions banner. Erik Feig is producing through Picturstart.  The executive producers are Randy Pitchford, executive producer of the Borderlands video game franchise and founder of the Gearbox Entertainment Company, and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.

Hart last appeared on the big screen in 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, and has a number of projects in the pipeline, including the action-comedy Man from Toronto, which he has wrapped opposite Woody Harrelson and Kaley Cuoco. He has also wrapped on Fatherhood, which follows a man whose wife dies shortly after childbirth. In November, Hart and Netflix launched his latest comedy special, No F**s Given, and earlier this month, he inked a rich film and first-look deal with the streaming service.

Travis Barker is seen for first time since claims he is dating Kourtney Kardashian

Travis Barker was seen with his 17-year-old son Landon in Malibu on Monday. This is the first time the 45-year-old rocker has been spotted out in public since it was claimed he has been dating longtime friend Kourtney Kardashian for the past few months.

Meanwhile, that same day the 41-year-old Kourtney shared several flashback images with her kids from the five star Amangiri resort in Canyon Point, Utah where sisters Kim and Kylie have vacationed before. 

Also on Monday it was claimed Kourtney’s ex Scott Disick is ‘happy’ for his former partner with whom he has three young children – Mason, Penelope and Reign.

On the town: Travis Barker was seen with his 17-year-old son Landon in Malibu on Monday 

Barker was seen in a black T-shirt that read Local Authority with his tattoos showing as he walked around Malibu.

Landon had on a hoodie that said Beverly Hills Gun Range as he was one step behind his dad. 

The musician shares stepdaughter Atiana, 21, daughter Alabama, 15, and son Landon with his ex-wife, Playboy model Shanna Moakler, whom he was married to from 2004 to 2008.

Last week it was claimed Kardashian is romancing Barker.

The POOSH star has sparked romance rumours with the Blink-182 drummer after they were spotted hanging out together at Kris Jenner’s Palm Springs home over the weekend.

Both Kourtney and Travis posted pictures to their respective Instagram Stories which feature the same pool, suggesting they were together even though neither of them posted photos together.

According to E! News, Travis has also been spotted checking out Kourtney’s recent social media posts, including leaving a comment with a single rose emoji on the reality TV star’s recent flirty mirror selfie.

Earlier in January, he also added a tulip emoji to a photo of Kourtney walking into the ocean, and wrote ‘you’re so cool’ in response to some still she’d shared from the movie True Romance.

This isn’t the first time that Travis and Kourtney – who are neighbors in Calabasas, California – have sparked speculation together, as in 2018, fans suspected the two were an item when they were seen grabbing dinner together in Los Angeles.

They were then spotted together again in early 2019, but sources at the time insisted it was totally platonic.

An insider said: ‘They’ve been friends for years. They’ve lived in the same neighborhood for a long time and they see each other at church and with their kids. They’ve hung out together many times and often get together with the kids to see movies or to get ice cream.’

A source said: ‘Scott has been around Travis on several occasions and thinks he’s a great guy. He’s really happy for Kourtney and is not surprised they are dating. Kourtney has spent a lot of time with Travis and it’s not shocking to him that they developed a romantic relationship.

‘She hasn’t dated someone in a while and Scott wants her to be happy. Kourtney and Scott are in a great place and they have come to terms that they are strictly friends and co-parents. 

‘There’s no romance there and he couldn’t be happier that she’s moved on. As long as the kids are in a healthy situation and Kourtney’s in a good place, then Scott is happy for them.’

As well as Scott, Kourtney’s family – her siblings, Kim Kardashian West, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and Rob Kardashian, and her mother Kris Jenner – all approve.
