Making a vaccine appointment online in New Hampshire will look very different Wednesday morning when the state’s new scheduling website goes live.The Vaccine and Immunization Network Interface, or VINI, goes live at 8 a.m. for people who are eligible for Phase 2A of vaccinations. That includes teachers and school staff for kindergarten through 12th grade, along with child care and youth camp workers.State officials said they’re confident the system is ready to go, and there is a web team on standby in case something goes awry.”We’re confident that it’s going to be easier to use,” said Perry Plummer, who is heading up the state’s COVID Vaccine Response Team. “It’s going to work well, and it’s going to allow people to look at one, if they want to move up, if they want to change a schedule, they won’t have to cancel the one to go pick another one. He estimated that about 25,000 more people will try to book through the site.”Every eligible person in 2A should be able to get an appointment in March,” he said.The new system requires people to create an account, and it will screen them for eligibility. The system will immediately send a link to a person’s email address. That link takes the person to the booking options.”They’ll be able to choose through a host of appointments,” Plummer said. “There are going to be a lot of appointments available, and then once they get their appointment, if they’ve got to change it, they can go right in and change it.”Plummer is optimistic Wednesday’s debut will go well, but he’s still being cautious. “I’m nervous every day until we get through vaccinating every single citizen,” he said.Those signing up tomorrow will be able to get an appointment as early as Thursday, days sooner than originally planned. The sped-up schedule comes as the state announced it will receive 1,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine that it wasn’t originally expecting.The VINI site has another advantage over the old, federal scheduling system, Plummer said. It allows 211 operators to directly schedule, reschedule or verify appointments. He said that will be helpful to anyone struggling to navigate the online system.
