Former La Crosse Diocese leader hospitalized with COVID-19

LA CROSSE, Wis. – According to his Twitter account, Cardinal Raymond Burke was admitted to a hospital Saturday.

Burke tweeted that he tested positive for the virus on Tuesday after beginning to feel ill while he was in Wisconsin.

Burke is from Richland Center.

He was ordained in La Crosse and taught at Aquinas High School before being elevated to Bishop of the La Crosse Diocese in 1995.

Burke served the La Crosse Diocese until 2003.

He’s currently Cardinal-Priest of Sant’Agata de’ Goti in Rome.
