CHARLOTTE — A man died after wrecking his car and being struck on Interstate 85 in north Charlotte early Saturday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
All lanes of I-85 were closed for hours as authorities investigated the incident that included five separate crashes, troopers said.

The road was shut down near Sugar Creek Road shortly after 4 a.m., near exit 4.
The northbound lanes reopened around 7 a.m. and the southbound lanes were open by 8 a.m.
Troopers said the series of crashes began when a Mercury passenger car went off the left side of I-85 southbound and struck the median before ending up in a lane of the highway.
The man got out of his car without lights on and was struck in the roadway, troopers said. His body ended up in the northbound lanes of the interstate resulting in the full closure.

Two cars that had stopped after the crash were struck by drivers attempting to avoid the wreck. Troopers said they were investigating the incident as five separate crashes and a pedestrian fatally hit.
One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
Darkness in the area was said to be a factor.
Troopers said the investigation was ongoing.
