Xavier McKinney won’t put timeline on return after surgery on multiple fingers

Getty Images

Giants safety Xavier McKinney took “full responsibility” for an ATV accident in Cabo that will sideline him for multiple weeks.

“It was an unfortunate event,” McKinney said, via SNY Giants. “I got into a Can-Am [off-road vehicle] accident. It kind of just basically just flipped over, not flipped over but tilted over. Fell on my hand. That’s basically what happened.”

McKinney broke multiple fingers in the accident last Wednesday while the team was on its off week. He underwent surgery after returning from Mexico, and his left hand was covered in a plastic protective case as he talked to reporters Tuesday.

McKinney would not put a timeline on his return or answer whether he even will come back this season, and coach Brian Daboll allowed only that McKinney will be out “a few weeks.” That much is a given. On the non-football injury list, McKinney will miss a minimum of four games.

“I feel bad for Xavier and disappointed that he got injured,” Daboll said. “He’ll do everything he can do to get back and be ready to go.”

McKinney would not answer multiple questions about whether he was driving the ATV, and he said he was unaware that being on an ATV violated his contract.

“We were on a sightseeing tour. That’s what I can tell you,” McKinney said. “It was nothing that was reckless. This was just simply being able to be out in the country, seeing what it looked like. It was an unfortunate event that happened.”

McKinney has played every snap this season and was the defensive signal-caller on the field, so the Giants will have a big adjustment to make on the back end of their defense. Julian Love will wear the green dot helmet as the signal caller of the defense in McKinney’s absence, Art Stapleton of northjersey.com reports.

“I feel bad for him. I feel bad for us,” Daboll said of McKinney. “I know he’s disappointed, but you can’t do anything about that now.”

Xavier Musk: Elon Musk’s child tells court she no longer wants ‘to be related’ to her dad

The petition was filed by Xavier Alexander Musk, who turned 18 earlier this year and made the filing with a county court in Los Angeles soon thereafter. She requests that her name be changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson. Wilson is the last name of her mother, Justine Wilson, Musk’s ex-wife and mother of five of his seven children.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla (TSLA) and SpaceX, is the world’s richest person with an estimated net worth of $214 billion.

He has been criticized for some of his statements on Twitter regarding gender identity issues. For example in December 2020 he posted a tweet, since deleted, that said “when you put he/him in your bio” alongside a drawing of an 18th century soldier rubbing blood on his face in front of a pile of dead bodies and wearing a cap that read “I love to oppress.”

In response to criticism to that tweet, Musk wrote on Twitter: “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.” He also pointed out that Tesla had scored a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign as being one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality.” Tesla still has that 100% score in HRC’s 2022 rankings.
Musk has also said on Twitter that he is leaning toward supporting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis recently pushed for and signed legislation, known by critics as the Don’t Say Gay law, to limit discussions of homosexuality and trans issues in the state’s public schools.
News of Xavier Musk’s filing broke over the weekend on social media, and in stories on celebrity news site The Blast as well as in the Los Angeles Times Monday. There is a hearing for the case set for this Friday.
Early Sunday Musk tweeted Father’s Day greetings, followed by another tweet that said “I love all my kids so much.”

CNN Business was not able to contact Xavier Musk for comment and there were no comments from her in other reports about the filing.

John Sandor and Mary Graft, parents of Navy sailor Xavier Hunter Mitchell Sandor who died by suicide on USS George Washington, blast Navy’s ‘ridiculous’ response

John Sandor and Mary Graft, the parents of Master at Arms Seaman Recruit Xavier Hunter Mitchell Sandor, told CNN’s Brianna Keilar on “New Day” that their son did not provide much detail about the conditions on the carrier but said the experience was “awful.”

“People shouldn’t have to live like this,” John Sandor said his son told him, adding that Xavier would call them from his car and that there was a lack of hot water with which to take a shower.

Since Monday, more than 200 sailors have been moved from the carrier to a nearby Navy facility after multiple deaths by suicide among the crew, including three in less than one week in April, the Navy said. The deaths have occurred amid an overhaul process and years-long refueling of the carrier at a shipyard in Newport News in Virginia. The Navy has opened an investigation into the command climate and culture on board the Nimitz-class carrier.

“He loved his job. He did his 12-hour shifts. And how do you sleep on an aircraft carrier with jackhammering and smoke and smells during the day? So, he would sleep in his car,” John Sandor said about his son, who was 19. “It is just awful. No sailor should even have been living on that ship in those conditions.”

John Sandor later said, “Knowing what was going on with the crew before him, this could have happened a long time ago and my son would still be alive. I don’t know why it took so long for the Navy to act on it. They had to wait until the seventh to actually make changes? It’s ridiculous.”

CNN reached out to the Navy for comment on Wednesday.

Capt. Brent Gaut, commanding officer of the carrier, made the decision to allow sailors living on board the ship to move to other accommodations, according to a statement from Naval Air Force Atlantic. Although the carrier does not have its full complement of approximately 5,000 sailors, the ship still has about 2,700 sailors working aboard during the overhaul process. About 420 sailors live on board the ship during its overhaul.

The ship’s command is working to identify sailors who could “benefit from and desire the support services and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) programs” that are available on local Navy facilities. The Navy is in the process of setting up “temporary accommodations” for these sailors, according to an earlier statement from Naval Air Force Atlantic.

Results from the Navy’s investigation into the deaths are expected this week, Adm. John Meier, commander of US Naval Air Force Atlantic, told reporters on Tuesday.

“We’ve assigned an investigating officer to look into that and to really to look into the proximate cause. Was there an immediate trigger? Was there a linkage between those events? I expect that to report out this week, and I won’t presuppose the outcome of that report,” Meier said.

The investigation is one of two the US Navy is conducting. The second investigation, Meier also said, has a “much broader scope” and focuses on “command climate, command culture.”

In response to the three suicides in April, the Navy added resources to the ship, including a “ship psychologist,” “resiliency counselors,” and “a 13-person sprint team, which is a special intervention team for instances like this,” Meier said.

Editor’s Note: If you or a loved one have contemplated suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or text TALK to 741741.

CNN’s Oren Liebermann contributed to this report.

Anxious transfer portal week sees Texas Longhorns fend off suitor for superstar WR Xavier Worthy

The 72 hours prior to the effective closing of the NCAA’s transfer portal are tumultuous in college football circles. And while Pittsburgh All-American wide receiver Jordan Addison’s will-he-won’t-he flirtation with the portal dominates most of the conversation, nearly every school is dealing with the new realities of college football as we wait for the May 1 transfer portal deadline dust to settle.

No team better represents the new normal than the Texas Longhorns. Not only was Texas engaged in a heated recruiting battle for a top transfer target, but it was also attempting to protect its own roster from the tampering winds that are gusting across the sport.

The best place to start is TCU transfer Ochaun Mathis.

The No. 25 overall player in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings, Mathis was a top target for the Longhorns, who sorely need pass-rushing help off the edge. Mathis grew up right outside of Austin and had a strong connection at Texas in new special assistant to the head coach, Gary Patterson, his former coach at TCU. And while Mathis visited Austin four times and was considered a heavy Longhorn lean throughout the process, he ultimately chose Nebraska.

Multiple sources have indicated to 247Sports that Mathis’ decision to pick the Huskers had to do in large part because of a significant NIL deal Nebraska presented, which a source said was in the mid-six-figure range.

While that battle on the transfer recruiting trail was ongoing, the Longhorns were battling to keep their roster intact — outside of the expected roster purge that did occur.

Among the players targeted by others schools was True Freshman All-American wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who a source said had a significant six-figure offer from at least one Power Five school to enter the portal and attend their program.

That’s something the Longhorns managed to fend off, according to Horns247 senior writer Jeff Howe.

“He’s not leaving,” a source told Howe. “You can take that to the bank.”

A budding superstar who caught 62 passes for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman, Worthy would have been a massive loss for the Longhorns.

That’s not all. Sources say third-year defensive back Jahdae Barron, Texas’ projected starting nickelback, was also approached by a Power Five program with a significant deal to enter the portal. As of Monday evening, Barron’s name has not popped up in the transfer portal (Horns247’s Mike Roach has more here).

Three names, three different storylines. It’s just a glimpse into the bonanza that is college football right now as the transfer portal window, lightly regulated NIL policies and post-spring depth charts collide.

“It’s the new norm,” said one Power Five assistant coach.

Doctor Strange 2 trailer introduces Charles Xavier and evil Wanda

Doctor Strange wields his powers in the Multiverse of Madness.

Marvel

“The nightmare begins.” Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness got a new trailer during the Super Bowl on Sunday, giving us more hints about the 28th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie ahead of its May 6 release. It’ll see Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer and his new buddies traveling through the multiverse, setting us up for cameos galore.

Check out the new trailer below.

As for those cameos, a familiar voice chimes in at 1:18, belonging to a certain Charles Xavier from the X-Men movies — the older version played by Patrick Stewart.

“We should tell him the truth,” says Xavier, hinting at some grand revelation.

Monica Rambeau, the daughter of the late Maria Rambeau from Captain Marvel, is also along for the ride, with the powers she got in WandaVision looking more developed in a fight with Scarlet Witch.

The parallel-dimension-hopping story follows the reality-warping events of Loki and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latter of which saw Strange messing with the fabric of the universe to help Peter Parker. Strange seeks aid from Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), aka the Scarlet Witch, who’s been living in isolation since she messed with the minds of a whole town in WandaVision. Although, in this trailer, Wanda seems pretty darn bitter and looks like she might be playing more of a villain role.

This adventure will also introduce America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), whose comics counterpart has the power to open holes in reality and jump through the multiverse.

The previous trailer also showed former Strange ally Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor), the twisted Strange Supreme, who appeared in last year’s in What If… ?, and Strange’s former girlfriend Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams).

Minnesota Vikings, safety Xavier Woods reach 1-year deal, source says

The Minnesota Vikings and free-agent safety Xavier Woods have agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million deal that includes $1.75 million guaranteed, a source confirmed to ESPN on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Woods, who developed into a versatile safety with the ability to cover the slot over his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, is expected to fill the Vikings’ opening at free safety opposite Harrison Smith after Anthony Harris’ departure in free agency.

After finishing the season ranked 29th in points allowed and 27th in yards allowed, Minnesota has focused its efforts on the defensive side. In addition to Woods, the Vikings have only acquired defensive players in free agency — defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson, linebacker Nick Vigil and cornerbacks Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander.

A sixth-round pick in 2017, Woods became a full-time starter in his second season with the Cowboys and started his last 44 games, missing four games over three seasons due to injury.

Heading into 2020, he was viewed as a cornerstone piece to the Cowboys’ secondary, but he struggled despite finishing second on the team with 72 tackles. He had just two tackles for loss, did not record a sack and had just two passes defended while not intercepting a pass for the first time in his career.

Woods can play both safety spots and also played as a nickel cornerback as a rookie.

ESPN’s Courtney Cronin and Todd Archer contributed to this report.

Victor Davis Hanson: ‘Hardcore left-wing’ Xavier Becerra would be ‘our version of Tedros’ at HHS

If Xavier Becerra is confirmed by the Senate as Health and Human Services secretary, America will have “our version of [WHO Director-General] Tedros [Ghebreyesus]”, Hoover Institution senior fellow Victor Davis Hanson told “The Ingraham Angle” Monday.

“He’s a very effective hardcore left-wing politician,” Hanson said of Becerra, a former California congressman and the state’s current attorney general. “He’s spent the last 40 years either running for office or being an elected official or appointed official. He’s got zero experience in the private sector. He knows nothing about health care.”

“He’s our version of Tedros, the head of the World Health Organization — the first [director-general] to have no M.D.”

Hanson later pointed out that both of Donald Trump’s HHS secretaries had been more qualified to hold the post than Becerra. Former Georgia Rep. Tom Price, he noted, was a medical doctor, and Alex Azar had been an executive at pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly & Co.

CRUZ OPPOSES BECERRA AS ‘ABSURD’ BIDEN PICK FOR HHS SECRETARY

Host Laura Ingraham also pointed out, Becerra has been a staunch supporter of abortion rights and has claimed illegal immigration is not actually illegal because the border crossers “haven’t commited a crime against someone.”

Hanson added that Biden’s choice of Becerra also rings very similar to Barack Obama’s choice of Charles Bolden to become NASA administrator.

Bolden created a firestorm after telling an Al Jazeera interviewer that Obama wanted him to, among other goals, “perhaps foremost … find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contributions to science.”

“I’m worried Mr. Becerra, in the time of a pandemic, is going to say healthcare will be defined as immigration, or it will be defined as gun control,” Hanson said, pointing to ways Becerra could codify liberal policy objectives in his role.
