NFL Week 4 injuries: Saints’ Alvin Kamara, Jameis Winston, Pats’ Mac Jones, Chargers’ Keenan Allen ruled out

Injuries are at the forefront of the NFL conversation with Week 4 underway, mostly in light of Tua Tagovailoa’s brief hospitalization Thursday night after head and neck trauma forced him out of the Dolphins’ loss. Miami isn’t the only team with uncertainty under center going into the weekend, either. Some clubs are much healthier than others, and quite a few big names remain questionable to suit up on Sunday. Here, we’ve compiled all the final injury reports for Week 4 action.

All NFL odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook.

The Saints will be shorthanded in at least some capacity, with the biggest absence coming under center, where Winston is recovering slower than expected from lingering issues. Former Bengals veteran Andy Dalton, last seen with the Cowboys and Bears, will get his first start of 2022. Rookie Chris Olave and reserve Tre’Quan Smith could see even more targets with Thomas out and Landry banged up, while Kamara is expected to suit up but could be on a pitch count alongside Mark Ingram.

The Vikings are far healthier, with star running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) disappearing from the report after making a full return to practice. Starting defenders Eric Kendricks (toe) and Harrison Smith (concussion) are also good to go.

Allen did not practice on Friday and was ruled out for the third straight game. With Jalen Guyton out for the year, expect significantly more reps for DeAndre Carter this week. Justin Herbert (ribs) was a full participant and J.C. Jackson (ankle) will play for the Chargers Sunday.

Dameon Pierce (hip) was a full participant for the Texans Friday. He’ll play Sunday after not being given an injury designation.

Jones was a surprise absence from practice on Thursday after being added to the injury report, but he was limited Friday. Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson revealed the he wants to make sure Jones is 100%, which is why the questionable designation was given. Griffin missed last week’s game with a hip injury and was limited in practice all week.

Former 49ers third-rounder Trey Sermon is set to debut as a No. 2/3 RB for the Eagles with Scott absent, behind Miles Sanders and Kenny Gainwell. With Maddox out after not participating in practice all week, expect Zech McPhearson to fill in as the slot cornerback.

Garrett, the Browns’ top edge rusher, is still recovering from injuries suffered in a car crash this week. With Clowney also iffy to play, the Browns’ pass rush will be shorthanded.

If Patterson can’t go for the Falcons, Arthur Smith’s squad is likely to turn to backups Tyler Allgeier and Avery Williams on the ground.

The Seahawks are relatively healthy heading into this one. Rookie Coby Bryant is set to start his third straight game in the slot with Coleman doubtful to play.

Jared Goff will be without some of his best weapons at home, with Jamaal Williams slated to handle RB1 duties and tight end T.J. Hockenson might also be in for additional looks in the passing game. If Reynolds can’t go, who plays wide receiver? Expect a heavy dose of Kalif Raymond and Quintez Cephus as the starting wideouts if the top three can’t go.

Bears at Giants (-3)

  • Bears: RB David Montgomery (ankle/knee), CB Jaylon Johnson (quad), DB Dane Cruikshank (hamstring) OUT; TE Ryan Griffin (Achilles), OLB Matthew Adams (hamstring) DOUBTFUL; WR Velus Jones Jr. (hamstring), DE Robert Quinn (illness), LB Sterling Weatherford (ankle), K Cairo Santos (personal) QUESTIONABLE
  • Giants: WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), DE Leonard Williams (knee), CB Nick McCloud (hamstring), CB Cordale Flott (calf) OUT

New York’s receiving corps will once again be without Toney, the 2021 first-rounder, who also sat out Week 3. Williams’ absence up front could also put more pressure on the Giants’ edge rushers, who failed to make much of an impact against the Cowboys last week.

The Bears will also be without a few of their top players; Khalil Herbert is set to start at running back with Montgomery sidelined, and Johnson’s absence leaves Chicago without its No. 1 cover man.

The Commanders are banged up on the offensive line, one that has given up the most sacks in the NFL this season. Leno has been dealing with this shoulder injury and has been limited Friday. If he can’t go, Cornelius Lucas will start at left tackle. Nick Martin will start at center with Schweitzer out. He’s Washington’s third starting center in four games. Right tackle Sam Cosmi (knee) will play.

Michael Gallup (knee) is back for the Cowboys and will will make his season debut after not being given an injury designation. Dak Prescott (ankle) isn’t throwing yet, so he’s out and Cooper Rush will start. Dalton Schultz has an uncertain status whether he’ll play after being limited Friday.

Hooker failed to clear the league’s concussion protocol in time, so he’ll miss Sunday’s game. The Titans are thin in the secondary with all their injuries, leading to McCreary in the slot and Kristian Fulton at outside cornerback. Treylon Burks will suit up at wide receiver after missing practice with an illness earlier in the week.

Up against Derrick Henry and Co., the Colts defense could be without a couple of key starters if Buckner doesn’t suit up; the star interior defender did not practice leading up to the game. Leonard, meanwhile, could make his 2022 debut at linebacker after missing the first three games while recovering from back surgery, though coach Frank Reich has made it clear he won’t be at 100 percent either way.

The biggest news here is the omission of Zach Wilson from the Jets’ report, as the QB is fully cleared from the knee surgery that kept him sidelined for the first three games. He’ll make his 2022 debut, replacing backup Joe Flacco. Quincy Williams didn’t practice all week, so he’s out for Sunday.

The Steelers got good news as Minkah Fitzpatrick cleared concussion protocols, so he’ll play Sunday. Pittsburgh is relatively healthy heading into this one.

After missing Week 3, Davis told reporters he will return to the field despite the questionable tag, serving as Josh Allen’s WR2 opposite Stefon Diggs. That doesn’t mean Buffalo will be unscathed going in, with Morse and Oliver both iffy in the trenches. Less than two weeks from his scary head injury against the Titans, Jackson also said he’s planning to play in the Bills secondary despite entering as a game-time decision.

If Stanley could play for the Ravens Sunday, it would be huge. The injuries at left tackle are mounting and Stanley did practice in full throughout the week. He’ll make a decision based on information he gathers from the coaching and medical staff. Fourth-round rookie Daniel Faalele would start at left tackle if Stanley and Mekari can’t go.

The Cardinals, still without DeAndre Hopkins due to suspension, could be calling upon the bottom of their receiver depth chart in this one. With Green out and both Brown and Moore banged up, reserve Greg Dortch could see another high volume of targets from Kyler Murray, along with tight end Zach Ertz. Running back James Conner (knee) is good to go as well.

Baker Mayfield will have a banged-up supporting cast, at best, with McCaffrey “hopeful” to play despite practicing in limited fashion just once this week. Shenault, who emerged in Week 3, is a game-time decision.

Jones cleared the concussion protocol, so he’s eligible to play Sunday. If Jones sits, Mike Purcell will start at nose tackle. Meinerz  had a setback in practice, which ruled him out for Sunday. The Broncos also play Thursday night, so it may have been wise to give him a few extra days.

No Renfrow again for the Raiders, so Mack Hollins is expected to take over a sthe No. 2 wide receiver for another week. Ya-Sin was limited in practice and his status is expected to be determined after Saturday’s walkthrough. Denzel Perryman was limited with an ankle injury all week, but he’ll play.

Despite Jones’ presence at practice Friday, the second-year QB has been ruled out and veteran backup Brian Hoyer will start. Jones’ high-ankle sprain has been classified as “severe” in multiple reports, and the second-year starter did not show much mobility during his limited return to the field. As for the questionable players, Bill Belichick listed them all as limited in practice all week.

David Bakhtiari (knee) and A.J. Dillon (knee) both were not given an injury designation. They’ll play for the Packers Sunday. Ditto for Elgton Jenkins (knee) and Allen Lazard (ankle).

The Chiefs ruled Butker out again on Saturday. Valdes-Scantling was limited in Friday’s practice, but so was Mecole Hardman who was not given an injury designation. Skyy Moore could be in line for increased snaps this week.

For the Buccaneers, Tom Brady could be down plenty of his top targets again. Head coach Todd Bowles said Godwin will be a game-time decision on Sunday, and he will make sure his receiving corps is healthy and 100% before having them all (Godwin, Evans, and Gage) out there. With Perriman doubtful, the Buccaneers’ top-three receivers could be Evans, Cole Beasley, and Scotty Miller. Jones is expected to be on a pitch count if he’s cleared to play.

  • Rams: C Brian Allen (knee), CB Decobie Durant (hamstring), G David Edwards (illness), CB David Long (groin) OUT
  • 49ers: LB Azeez Al-Shaair (knee), RB Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle), TE Tyler Kroft (knee), DB Tarvarius Moore (hamstring), T Trent Williams (ankle) OUT; WR Danny Gray (hip) DOUBTFUL; DL Arik Armstead (foot), TE Ross Dwelley (rib), DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) QUESTIONABLE

San Francisco’s offensive line takes a huge hit for the next few weeks with Williams on the sideline. It’s already a much thinner unit than it has been over the last several seasons, and now it loses its anchor. The group up front has powered much of San Francisco’s regular-season success against the Rams, so it’ll be interesting to see how Kyle Shanahan and Co. deal without Williams. Armstead and/or Kinlaw not being able to suit up would be impactful as well, given that the Rams’ biggest weakness is often to interior pressure against Matthew Stafford, and they will be without two starters in Allen and Edwards. Los Angeles’ secondary also takes a hit with both long and Durant out, which could affect how Raheem Morris’ defense deals with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.

New Orleans Saints say QB Jameis Winston doubtful, WR Michael Thomas out vs. Minnesota Vikings in London

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is unlikely to play in Sunday’s game in London against the Minnesota Vikings and wide receiver Michael Thomas has been ruled out, coach Dennis Allen told reporters Friday.

Neither Winston (back/ankle) nor Thomas (foot) has practiced over the past three days due to their injuries.

Andy Dalton would get the start at quarterback for the Saints if Winston, who is considered doubtful, is inactive for Sunday’s game. The Saints signed Dalton to a one-year contract this offseason after playing four quarterbacks in 2021 due to injuries and COVID-19.

“Our plan right now is to have Andy ready to go,” Allen said. “We’ll see how things go overnight, but Andy will be ready to go if that’s the direction that we go.”

Dalton has experience playing in London. He played in two games there as a Cincinnati Bengals starter, including a 27-27 tie in 2016 against Washington and current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins.

ESPN’s Katherine Terrell and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Winston Churchill’s granddaughter discusses her mother’s wartime diary

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Emma Soames, granddaughter of Winston Churchill, joined “Special Report” and talked to anchor Bret Baier about her mother’s wartime diaries.

BRET BAIER: Joining me now is Emma Soames, granddaughter of Winston Churchill, author of the new book ‘Mary Churchill’s War The Wartime Diaries of Churchill’s Youngest Daughter’ … What made you put your mom’s diaries down and reflect on your grandfather’s legacy?

EMMA SOAMES: I and my siblings, we had another look at the diaries and decided they were so interesting and compelling that they should be published in their entirety.

JULIAN ASSANGE’S EXTRADITION TO US APPROVED BY UK GOVERNMENT

I mean, just to give you an idea, on page three, she quotes her father as saying – and this is 1939, at the beginning of the year – ‘Before God Almighty, I say I do not want a war.’ And she says ‘To this, I am a witness.’. [00:01:09][29.4]

Indeed, it is historical, but it was not written by historian. When war breaks out, she is a 17-year-old girl who has literally just left school. But what it does give is a very intimate view of Churchill during the war and the stresses and strains he was under and of her growing devotion to him that lasted all her life.

Burger King murder suspect Winston Glynn held behind bars, calls judge ‘liar’ in court

The man charged with the “cold-blooded” murder of a 19-year-old Burger King employee blew up in court, repeatedly screaming “Liar!” at the judge during his arraignment Friday night.

Winston Glynn, 30, was ordered held without bail on charges of first-degree murder and robbery in the Jan. 9 killing of Kristal Bayron-Nieves, who was shot dead during her shift at the fast-food joint on East 116th Street and Lexington Avenue.

The alleged gunman had multiple outbursts during his first appearance in Manhattan Criminal Court, yelling at Judge Jay Weiner while being escorted out of the courtroom, as his Legal Aid attorney apologized.

“Liar! You didn’t see the judge liar?” the suspect ranted.

The brief hearing was attended by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who did not comment.

Assistant District Attorney Dafna Yoran requested that Glynn be remanded into custody, citing the seriousness of the charges, the fact that he does not have a “stable address,” and his connections to Florida and Jamaica.

“He intentionally killed a 19-year-old Burger King employee in a premeditated gunpoint robbery… He also pistol whipped two others, who were present – including a 60-year-old female manager,” Yoran said.

Glynn’s next court date was set for Jan. 19.

He was busted earlier Friday at an address in Brooklyn, “where detectives recovered items of clothing worn by the killer he tried to dispose of,” Yoran said.

Police said they tracked him down by reviewing “extensive” video footage that captured him carrying a distinctive backpack and white earbuds.

Investigators were also able to trace Glynn to a Manhattan store where he used an EBT card for a purchase prior to the slaying, police officials said.

Glynn — a Jamaica national whose address is listed as a Days Inn in Queens that also serves as a homeless shelter — once worked at the same Burger King, though investigators do not believe that he targeted Bayron-Nieves in the early Sunday-morning stickup.

Winston Glynn was ordered held without bail following multiple outbursts directed at Judge Jay Weiner.

The teen was working as a cashier at the restaurant at around 1 a.m. when a masked and armed robber walked in and pistol-whipped a male customer before punching a female manager in the face, cops said.

“Give me the cash!” he shouted while pointing a gun at Bayron-Nieves, according to a police source, who said the teen had trouble opening the register drawer.

When she got it open, she handed the robber the cash. She was crouching behind a second register when she was shot, police officials said.

The teen — who had started the job only three weeks earlier — was taken to Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, cops said.

The killer got away with just $100, the victim’s family said

Earlier Friday, Glynn yelled at a crowd of angry onlookers as cops marched him out of 25th Precinct stationhouse to take him to court.

“Where’s our reparations for four hundred years of f–king slavery!” the suspect yelled.

“F–k you all!” he yelled, according to a video taken at the scene by a Post photographer.

Mayor Eric Adams attended a news conference announcing the suspect’s capture, saying he felt compelled to speak about the “cold-blooded killer.”

“When I visited her [Bayron-Nieves’s] mother, just sort of the pain of the face, how much this tore her apart. We don’t see those cries, you don’t see the pain often,” the Democrat said.

Jarret Doege, Winston Wright plan to leave West Virginia Mountaineers football team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia quarterback Jarret Doege said Friday that he plans to transfer.

Doege announced his decision on Twitter.

“I will forever be grateful for the friendships and memories I’ve made at WVU over the past three years,” Doege said. “I am excited about the future and will be looking for a new home for the 2022 season.”

Doege’s decision was announced hours after Winston Wright, West Virginia’s leading wide receiver the past two seasons, said he is entering the transfer portal.

A two-year starter, Doege struggled at times in the pocket with his mobility and decision-making. He completed 65% of his passes for 3,048 yards with 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season.

The decision leaves Garrett Greene as West Virginia’s most experienced quarterback entering the 2022 season. Greene threw for 147 yards and was the team’s third-leading rusher with 297 yards in 11 games this season. The Mountaineers also will have incoming recruit Nicco Marchiol, the Arizona high school player of the year. Marchiol is enrolled at WVU in January.

West Virginia lost to Minnesota 18-6 in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix on Tuesday to finish 6-7.

Philip Rivers Would ‘Listen’ If Saints Contacted Him After Jameis Winston Injury | Bleacher Report

AP Photo/Jeffrey T. Barnes

Retired NFL quarterback Philip Rivers said he would listen if the New Orleans Saints called about adding him to their roster, according to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times.

The Saints suddenly have an opening under center after starter Jameis Winston suffered a torn ACL during Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, although the team has not contacted Rivers.

“We’re satisfied with the quarterback room,” Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters Monday.

New Orleans also has Taysom Hill, Trevor Siemian and rookie fourth-round pick Ian Book on the roster.

Hill was the team’s starter last season when Drew Brees suffered a rib injury, leading the team to a 3-1 record in four starts. He totaled 834 passing yards and four touchdowns along with 209 rushing yards and four more scores during his four full games as a quarterback.

Rivers could be an upgrade if he joins the team.

The 39-year-old was effective last year in his lone season with the Indianapolis Colts, finishing with 4,169 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His 97.0 quarterback rating was the sixth-highest of his 15 seasons as a starter in the NFL.

He retired after the season, but told Bob Kravitz of The Athletic in August that he thought he could have remained the Colts’ starter if he wanted.

Rivers’ recent success showed he can still be productive, especially in a Payton-led offense that allowed Brees to thrive. New Orleans should explore all options as it tries to remain a contender after a 5-2 start to the season.

With Jameis Winston likely done for the year, Drew Brees says he’s not coming back

Getty Images

Go ahead and start the speculation that Drew Brees will return to the quarterback-needy Saints. And then end it.

During halftime of Sunday night’s Cowboys-Vikings game on NBC, Brees said that he won’t be emerging from retirement to join the Saints, if (as expected) Winston will miss the rest of the season.

The Saints apparently will stick with Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill. As reportedly during Football Night in America, Hill is expected to be cleared to play this week after suffering a concussion in Week Five.

The 5-2 Saints host the 3-4 Falcons on Sunday.

Saints’ Jameis Winston suffers reported ACL injury vs. Bucs, Sean Payton calls it ‘significant’

Getty Images

Jameis Winston was helped off of the field after sustaining a knee injury during the second quarter of the Saints’ Week 8 home game against the Buccaneers. Winston was ruled out for the remainder of the game after initially being questionable to return.

Winston left the game after he was tackled by Buccaneers linebacker Devin White on a running play. White was penalized on the play for making a horse-collar tackle. Winston tried to leave the field under his own power before falling on the turf. He was carted off of the field after spending time in the team’s medical tent.

Following the game, Saints coach Sean Payton described the injury as “significant,” and NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported that the injury was to Winston’s ACL.

With Taysom Hill (concussion) inactive, Winston was replaced by backup Trevor Siemian, a seven-year veteran who had not previously attempted a pass since the 2019 season. A seventh-round pick in the 2015 draft, Siemian made 24 starts for the Broncos during the 2016 and ’17 seasons. He has a 13-12 record as a starter with 30 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. Siemian entered Sunday’s game with a 59.2% career completion percentage.

Winston won his position battle over Hill after sitting behind Drew Brees during his first season in New Orleans. Through six games, Winston had completed nearly 59% of his throws with 13 touchdowns and three interceptions. Winton’s play helped the Saints get out to a 4-2 start.

Despite the loss of Winston, the Buccaneers Saints held on to defeat the defending champions, 36-27. If Winston has to miss time, Hill would presumably step into the lineup as the starter, though Siemian could get a chance if Hill is unable to return from his concussion just yet.

New Orleans Saints QB Jameis Winston aims to keep emotions in check in first start vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

METAIRIE, La. — Jameis Winston initially tried to downplay the significance of making his first start against his former team Sunday when the New Orleans Saints host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — calling them “the next opponent.”

But the former No. 1 overall draft pick went on to explain that the main reason for that approach is because he doesn’t need any added emotion or revenge element while he attempts to revive his career in New Orleans.

“This week is big. But I mean every week is big for me. Being out a year, you get a chance to see how much you miss being away from this game,” said Winston, who spent last year as a backup behind Drew Brees after Tampa Bay decided to replace him with Tom Brady and went on to win the Super Bowl.

“Yeah, I’m playing against the old squad. But I love this game, and I’m trying to go out there and beat everybody we play, no matter who it is,” said Winston, who has gone 4-2 as a starter with the Saints — though they are still chasing the 6-1 Buccaneers atop the NFC South standings.

“I’ve always been an emotional football player,” the 27-year-old Winston added. “I think that’s something that I’m trying to work on — being present instead of being stuck in my feelings. As a quarterback, we have to be present all the time and aware of everything that’s going on. Sometimes too much emotion can lead us places that we don’t want to go.

“Obviously I want to beat ’em, I want to beat ’em bad. And in my heart, I’m ready to rock. But at the end of the day they’re another opponent — another opponent that we gotta beat that’s in this division. And they’ve got a good team, they’re coming in here hot. So we’ve gotta stand our ground and represent at our house.”

Saints coach Sean Payton joked that he doesn’t expect Winston to try and wreak havoc on the Buccaneers like Forest Whitaker’s character in the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” after his car was smashed up.

“He’s playing quarterback, so he needs to be precise, on point, and I think he understands that,” Payton said. “I think he’s smart enough and mature enough to focus on the things you need to do to win.”

Winston also insisted that it wasn’t hard for him to watch the Buccaneers win a Super Bowl without him last year because he was happy for so many teammates he had played with from 2015-2019. And he said he never had to battle anger or bitterness after Tampa Bay let him go as a free agent.

“No, everything happens for a reason. And I’m very grateful for that organization and for the Glazer family giving me the opportunity, drafted No. 1 overall to that city,” Winston said. “That city’s done a lot for me, and I know I’ve done a lot for that city. That’s where I stay at now. So I definitely love that city. … This week it’s time to play and all the lovey-dovey stuff is behind.”

Winston said that there aren’t many trash talkers on Tampa’s defense — but he might not have been giving his friend Jason Pierre-Paul enough credit.

“I can’t wait, I can’t wait. I’m actually going to text him and tell him to get ready,” Pierre-Paul said. “I can’t wait to play Jameis. It’s going to be fun. He’s like a brother to me. I remember we were hiking in the offseason in Colorado, but I can’t wait to hunt him down. It’s crazy, Jameis is a different type of breed.”

Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians pointed out that the biggest difference he has seen in Winston with the Saints is his usage after Winston led the NFL with 5,109 passing yards while infamously becoming the first player in league history to throw at least 30 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in the same season during their one year together in 2019.

“He’s probably throwing it 15 times less a game,” Arians said. “They’re playing with a lead, and we didn’t have that many leads that [season], so we had to throw it. So, yeah, he’s playing very, very well at the position.”

Indeed, the Saints rank last in the NFL with just 25.8 pass attempts per game, and Winston is averaging just 185.7 passing yards per game. Winston’s completion percentage is just 58.9%, but he has a stellar TD-INT ratio of 13-3 and a passer rating of 102.4.

Deep balls remain a specialty for Winston, with four completions of 49-plus yards.

“I think he is a really good quarterback in this league. I think he can really make plays that other guys can’t make,” Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said. “He makes plays that very few guys in this league can make, so I always thought he was a special, unique guy. I feel the same way about him now.”

ESPN Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine contributed to this report.
